  1. Item: Thorens 160 B MkII turntable with SME 3009 tonearm and Shure V15-III cartridge Location: Canberra Price: $1350 plus postage (if applicable) Item Condition: Very good for age Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: The Thorens TD-160 turntable is a tweaker’s heaven and arguably one of Thorens’ best. This one is in very good condition for its age and sounds great. It comes with a SME 3009 tonearm and Shure V15-III phono cartridge - an iconic matching with the Thorens. The SME 3009 has a reputation for being the perfectionist's tonearm, so if that is your thing you will not go wrong with this setup. Just send me a PM if you need more information or any specific photos and I will be happy to assist. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  2. I currently have a Thorens TD-240 It's time for me to replace my Ortofon 2M blue. I'm interested in upgrading to the 2M Bronze but I am open-minded to going all out for the 2M Black. It may be overkill though. Interested to hear any opinions. Cheers https://theaudiophileman.com/thorens-td-240-2-turntable-review/ https://www.ortofon.com/ortofon-2m-bronze-p-325 https://www.ortofon.com/stylus-2m-black-p-393
  3. Item: Thorens TD125MK2 Location: Williamstown Price: $650 Item Condition: Reason for selling: Too many turntables, not enough time! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Thorens TD125MK2 in good original condition. Lid has some scuffing but otherwise turntable’s condition is really nice. Comes with Thorens TP16 arm and two new switch covers. Has new Thakker belt. Many years ago my first ‘serious’ turntable was a TD125, and I’ve had a soft spot for them ever since, so much so that I couldn’t resist getting this one. But too much gear and not enough time means this should go to someone who will appreciate it! Great as is, fantastic when upgraded. Donation to SNA on successful sale Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  4. After several years of very pleasurable listening to vinyl on my Thorens TD160B MKII (purchased off StereoNet and pictured below), it's time to start to add my own personal touches. My 160B came with the TP11 tonearm. I'm thinking of changing it out for an SME 3009 or similar to start to see how far I can push the TT!! Any advice on the first of my mods would be greatly appreciated. I'd also be keen to hear from other Thorens owners on what they've done to their TD160's!!
  5. Item: ERA 3033 Turntable Location: Chisholm NSW 2322 Price: 860 Item Condition: NOS Reason for selling: Less than a handful left. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Extra Info: Will ship for $25-$40 depending on the area. Controls relubed, main bearing relubed, tonearm setdown lever adjusted for smooth, slow operation. ERA (Etudes et Recherches Acoustiques) were somewhat ahead of Thorens, AR and Linn for the time with their thicker steel deck, cast alloy sub-deck, 48-pole Premotec motor with ss pulley and just excellent all round engineering. The in-house tonearm (medium mass) bearings are top shelf. Basically you are getting a turntable exactly as it was sold out of the legendary Recorded Music Salon in Collins Street by Mr Pinczewski. 6. Hi all, and apologies in advance if this has been covered previously. I am in process of resurrecting my Thorens TD 160 (new belt, cartridge etc) and would like to plat through a Sonos system. I gather i will need a pre-amp to convert analogue signal to digital, then a Sonos "bridge" to transmit to WiFi. Has anyone used this setup, and if so, could you share the experience and any tips and tricks please? Thank You

  11. Hello, Help would be much appreciated. I am interested in attaching a project speed box to my Thorens 160. The pic below shows that the red connector that says: 110v 50 hertz . 12. Item: Thorens TD-160 Mk1 turtntable Location: Glen Iris (Melbourne) Price: $600 Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: Upgraded to Super model Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: New Thorens belt. The dust cover had a crack on on left hand side and was fixed by previous owner. The original hinge pins almost missing which is typically replaced by screws in this model. I replaced the original 5 pin DIN with a pair of RCA plugs but the ironing job on 1 of the plug was not perfect. The new owner can make a new plug if you are really fussed about it. No ground cable but since there is no hum on this TT, I didn't bother about having one. This model has no transportation lock hence pick up at this stage only. Pictures:
  13. Item: Vintage ERA-3033 turntable, 1975 Location: Chisholm 2322 NSW Price: $550 Item Condition: As new Reason for selling: Too many turntables! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Will ship for $40. Yes, I know how to pack a tt! This is a really super “as new” turntable from high end audio French manufacturer, ERA. (Etudes et Recherches Acoustiques, or Acoustic Studies & Research, located in Paris) This mid-70s ERA5055 model is a high-quality turntable for serious audiophiles that was pitched directly against brands like Linn and Thorens. While cheaper than Linn, prices were on par with Thorens. Their selling points were: · Cast alloy suspended baseplate. The baseplate supports the platter together with the tonearm and cueing mechanism is similar to that of Linn and Thorens models, except that ERA used cast alloy instead of pressed steel, which was a far more elegant very French approach. There is a single shipping screw to lock down the baseplate during transport. · The bearing is a captive ball bearing in a silicon bronze sleeve pressed into the alloy shaft that is integral with the cast suspended baseplate. This design keeps the spindle absolutely aligned with the baseplate and it cannot move out of alignment. There is no play in the bearing. · The platter is a weighty two-piece system with the sub-platter driven by a 4mm wide belt, same size as Thorens TD160 etc, so easy to replace. · Motor drive is the superbly reliable and accurate 48-pole synchronous motor running at a slow 250rpm, the same motor used by Linn. It is switched to run on 110V and 240V. Motor made in Holland. · Drive pulley is stainless steel, not plastic. · Suspension is by Silentbloc, ie. damped spring system. The suspension has been re-adjusted as part of its service. · Two speeds, 45 and 33 · Tonearm is a gimbal type low-mass with a built in anti-skate dial at the base and height adjustable. · VTF (Vertical Tracking Force) is adjusted with a single weight on the rear of the tonearm and then fine adjusted with a Vernier slider weight. Points to note: · This machine has been in storage for a number of years. It has been cleaned and serviced so that it now looks and runs just as well as did in the 70s. There is zero corrosion inside and out. In fact, it looks as if it rolled off the assembly line yesterday! · The deck is 2.5mm coated steel plate, so very stiff and solid. · The suspended baseplate is 3-pronged, stiff cast alloy. · Belt: Belt has been replaced. · Supplied with a small container of 10W30 spec full synthetic oil for the bearing and spindle. Will need oiling before use as I’ve cleaned out the sleeve and spindle for transport. · Cartridge: No cartridge, but can install and align brand new Ortofon OM10 for extra $60. · The Plexiglas lid is in “as new” condition, unmarked and shiny. The hinges have removable pins to facilitate removal if you prefer to play records with the lid off. Pins not needed to articulate, only if you want a permanent install. · Power cord is audio RCA plugs and wires are as-new. Power plug is Euro 2-pin so will supply adapter. · Platter mat and its metal centre disk is in as-new condition · Speed has been checked and is perfect. I measured 33.33 and 45.1RPM, so you can’t better that! · Controls: There are 2 controls. 1. Speed selector LHS; 3. Combined Start/Cueing lever RHS. Like most high-end audiophile-quality tables, this one is manual apart from auto-off at the end of the recordwhen the stylus enters the run-out groove. Everything works as it should and it sounds truly excellent. There are no plastic components in the ERA, just all metal construction and mounted in a nice wooden plinth which is in as-new condition. All components in the ERA are serviceable. The wooden plinth has been given a light wipe over with furniture oil and it looks simply stunning. As the French would say “Superb!” Pictures:

  15. Item: ERA 5055 Location: Maitland, NSW Price: $750 Item Condition: New, unused Reason for selling: Surplus to needs Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank deposit Extra Info: This mid-70s ERA 5055 turntable model is a high end turntable for serious audiophiles that was pitched directly against brands like Linn and Thorens · Cast alloy suspended baseplate. There is a single shipping screw to lock down the baseplate during transport. · The bearing is a captive ball bearing in a silicon bronze sleeve pressed into the alloy shaft that is integral with the cast suspended baseplate. As the turntable is unused, the bearing and spindle’s tolerances are as per factory. · The platter is a weighty two-piece system with the sub-platter driven by a 4mm wide belt. · Motor drive is a superbly reliable and accurate 48-pole synchronous motor running at a slow 250rpm, the same motor used by Linn at the time. It is switched to run on 110V and 240V. · Suspension is by Silentbloc, ie. damped spring system. The suspension has been retuned as part of its service. · Two speeds, 45 and 33 · Tonearm is totally unique and was called “Frictionless Pivot” by ERA. It is suspended by four high tensile springs that can be adjusted to set VTA. (Vertical Tracking Angle). It is an almost frictionless design that doesn’t suffer the issues of gimble wear and adjustment. · Anti-skate is via an adjustable weight that hangs off a magnetic repositionable post. · VTF (Vertical Tracking Force) is adjusted with a single weight on the rear of the tonearm and then fine adjusted with a sliding weight on the arm, which has scale markings etched on it. · Belt: A brand new belt has been installed. · Oil: Supplied with a small container of the full synthetic oil for the bearing and spindle. Will need oiling before use as I’ve cleaned out the sleeve and spindle for transport. · Cartridge/stylus: ERA turntables were not sold with a cartridge, so it comes without one. You can either install your favourite cartridge or else opt to purchase a brand new Ortofon OM10 cartridge for an additional $60. · The Plexiglas lid is in “as new” condition. The hinges have removable pins to facilitate removal if you prefer to play records with the lid off. However, if you install the captive pins, the lid will stay upright when playing records. · Power cord is audio RCA plugs and wires are as-new. · Platter mat and metal centre disk is in as-new condition · Speed has been checked and is perfect. I measured 33.33 and 45.1RPM, so you can’t better that! · Controls: There are 3 controls. 1. On-off push/pull switch located left rear; 2. Speed selector LHS; 3. Cueing lever RHS. · Like most high end audiophile-quality tables, this one is manual. There are no mechanicals to mess with the tonearm’s free movement. · User manual is in French and English This tt is very tweakable, being designed along the lines of Linn, Thorens etc. The cartridge shown in the photos is a Rega Carbon and used for testing only using a test headshell. No cartridge is included in this sale unless one is ordered as an optional extra. The alloy headshell that comes with this machine is brand new, unused, and the wires are in as-new condition. As this is a vintage old-stock item, there is no warranty and no-return. Pick up and demo available in Maitland area for serious buyers. Expert packing and shipping by courier to your door is available to Australia for $45. Pictures:
  16. Item: Thorens TD 160 mk I Location: Canberra Price: $800 Item Condition: Very good used Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or bank transfer Extra Info: For sale is my Thorens TD 160 mk I. It has a Rega RB250 tonearm on it that has an upgraded metal stub and counterweight. The RB250 has been rewired as well. The whole TT was fully serviced by Decibel Hifi a few years ago. The original Perspex cover has been replaced by a new one, with no marks on it. The side pivots have been removed with new hinges put on the back, leaving a small hole on either side. The cartridge is a Roksan Corus Blue, which looks in good condition and should have many more hours in it. The motor runs perfectly smoothly, no bearing noise at all. The speed has been tested on both 33 and 45 and it is spot on. It sounds very, very nice, and compared very well with TT combos worth multiples times more. Pick up in Canberra. Pictures:
  17. Hi Guys, I have fortunately just acquired a C1924 Thorens “Picnic” portable record player and Edison cylinder player that I’d like to restore. I have done some antique restoration in the past, so I can probably handle the wooden components and possibly the horn, however the mechanical components, whilst incredibly simple are possibly beyond my capabilities - in particular the Thorens main spring has broken and apart from a watchmaker, I’m not sure where to start? The Edison works perfectly, but lacks a support arm and adapter sleeve for the horn. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, Malcolm
  18. Hi all, A friend of mine has a Thorens TD350 with an Ortofon TA110 tonearm running an Ortofon 2M Black. He is looking to upgrade the tonearm and in need of some expert advice as to what arms would lift it up a few notches and what would be required to install any suggested arms ie a change of arm board or whatever. He bought the deck brand new a few months ago. I'm not familiar with the Thorens deck so asking kindly for assistance. Thanks in advance.

  25. Hi Gang, I thought I'd ask this rather than pollute someone else's thread. I now have a DL-103 with wood body and it's too heavy for the standard Thorens arm. I was already considering a tonearm upgrade and probably looking at Rega arms. Basically I would like to ask what people think are the best bang for buck upgrade on the 160. I'm preferring to just buy a 3 point plate to help this be easier. Looks like I'll stay down the MC path also so that should be taken into account. Also if anyone has experience with SQ improvement from the speed box etc. I would be interested. Cheers Jake
