  1. Up for sale is my Musical Fidelity A1 Class A Intergrated Amp. I am the second owner of this iconic unit and it is in outstanding original condition. It was one of the very best amplifiers in its day and still is giving a beautiful class A sound. I purchased this from a fellow SNA'r about 3 years ago ( Hi john70 ! ) and is still in Excellent visual condition and Perfect working order. ( I've used Johns photos as, well, as it is exactly the same as when I first got it ) Really, I purchased this on a whim but unfortunately have only been able to use it very rarely. I was going to set it up as a second system in the bedroom but that idea was strongly shut down I reckon I would have put maybe 10 hours on it since I got it ? Sorry, I don't have the manual or the original box. I would prefer to sell locally due to its weight and the general fragility of electronics. Check on the internet and see how good this amp is ( https://www.markhennessy.co.uk/mf_a1/index.htm ) hfe_musical_fidelity_a1_en.pdf
  2. Further Information: For sale is my Musical Fidelity M6 500i integrated amplifier. This huge beauty is less than 2 years old and is in superb condition without scratches, marks or defects. It has performed without issue for over 18 months. The M6 500i is a fully analog, double monobloc setup in a single unit, 500 wpc stereo integrated amplifier. It is very much a stripped-down amp, focusing solely on stereo amplification of line-level analog sources. There is no DAC, no Phono stage and not even a headphone jack port, but there are 4 sets of speaker binding posts making it suitable for bi-wiring (I have not used this capability). The pair of 500 wpc monoblocs are actually 4x250wpc amplifiers, with each channel incorporating a bridged pair of 250w amps and its own power supply, electrically separated from the other channel. The amp is solid, built like a tank and weighs 30kg. During operation it draws around 150watts. However, in my experience, it only gets suitably warm but not hot. The remote is plastic yet is built well enough - there is no on/off switch on the remote. There are many good reviews of the amp, speaking of its speed, neutrality, endless headroom and ability to easily drive speakers that are inefficient or have otherwise difficult loading requirements (like electrostatics). This has certainly been my experience. The amp was manufactured in Oct 2018 - sold and first operated in Jan 2021. The M6 500i will be shipped in its original double-box. Shipping within Australia is included in the price.
  3. Further information: In excellent condition and hardly used. Owned since new. Original box for postage. Postage at buyers expense. USB input and built in DAC included. Headphone amp or pre amp. Class A amp design for great sound. If you have a separate DAC, this could also be used too, connecting with RCA. Item for sale is the black headphone pre/amp in photo. M1HPAP - Overview If you've only ever heard your headphones plugged into an everyday amp, or a computer, the M1 HPA will be a revelation. It's a dedicated headphone amplifier capable of driving any set of cans to unprecedented levels of performance. Whatever your source, you'll hear the music open up, revealing greater scale, extension and detail. The secret to the M1 HPA's stunning sound is its pure Class A amplifier design, which is paired with a high-current, low-noise power supply. This combination gives the M1 HPA the ability to drive any headphone without distortion. Its talents don't end there: the M1 HPA also functions as a high-quality pre-amplifier. The M1 HPA, the successor to the M1 HPAP, has already received much acclaim: the Hi-Fi Choice review stated "you might have to pay fives times the HPA's asking price to significantly better its performance", while the Hi-Fi News group test concluded: "on excellent sound, facilities and value for money, the M1 HPA is a clear winner." We're confident the M1 HPAP delivers an even finer performance. Pre-Amplifier THD(+ noise): <0.008% (10Hz to 20kHz) Signal to Noise Ratio: >109dB “A”- wtd Frequency Response: 15Hz to 75kHz -3dB max. Inputs 1x Line Level RCA / Phono USB type ‘B’ connector for computer/PDA General Dimensions - WxHxD (mm): 220 x 100 x 300 Weight (unpacked / packed): 3.4 kg / 4.1 kg
  4. Further information: Edit: the price is $1500NZD not AUD as shown above. At the current exchange rate that's about $1360AUD. Up for sale is my Musical Fidelity M6S DAC. At the time of release it was Musical Fidelity's top model. It has since been replaced by the M6SR which I understand is essentially identical, but plays better with DSD. I purchased it on a whim a week or so ago from the original owner who was moving overseas. The DAC is only a few months old. It is electrically perfect. Physically it has a few small marks (I think from where the original owner stacked gear on top). These marks are very hard to photograph. The light has to be on exactly the right angle as they are only slight mars in the textured finish and do not go through to the raw metal. There are a couple on the top and possibly one on the front above the model number (I only noticed this one when checking the photographs. I never saw it while it was on the shelf). I have done my best to capture them in the photographs. Sonically the M6S is excellent, but not quite to my taste --- it's a little too honest for me, these days I want a DAC that sweetly lies to me. The M6S excels with live perfomances and electronica --- it does both atmosphere and impact well. It has heaps of detail, deep powerful bass, and a surprisingly deep soundstage for a delta sigma DAC. It's dynamic and fun. It also measures superbly (for those who care about such things) and manages to be neutral without being boring. In a group test in HiFi Choice where it was compared with Benchmark, Heed, Audiolab, Leema, and Mytek DACs the reviewer came out strongly in favour of the MF, writing: " As you might have gleaned already, there's one DAC in the group that's sonically blessed up to and beyond 'wow' and this is it. To be frank, the big MF sounds extraordinary --- not so much as if it's wandered in from a different class as a different planet. Its soundstage is wider and deeper, holographic in a way the best of the rest merely hints at. It's imaging has pinpoint specificity and presence you feel you can reach out and touch. Highs are more clearly defined, lows deeper and more visceral, and dynamic swings of an order you'd swear were the work of a much more expensive and muscular amplifier than the Hegel H90 I'm using. And it's proudly digital, devoid of mellifluous manipulation and euphonic shading, locking astonishing transparency with startling dynamic expression. I agree with all of that --- well, I haven't tested all the DACs, but the description of the MF matches my own experience. It's just that I'm after some of that "euphonic shading", so up for sale it goes. Oh, for those not familiar with the device, it includes a quality dedicated headphone out and can be switched between fixed and variable output, so can be used without a preamp if desired. Important note: I am in NZ, and the price is is NZ$ (it's a little less than what I paid a week ago). I did a quick search and it looks like the last M6S to sell here when for $1500 in AU$ -- so this is a little cheaper, but you need to factor in post and paypal fees if you are in AU. I'm not sure what these sold for new in AU, they were a little over $3k here in NZ (so half price and only a few months old). (Further note, I am a fulltime dad to a 1.5yo at the moment, so I usually only have time to check my messages etc. late in the evening. Please don't be concerned if I don't reply immediately to messages.) Thanks for looking.
  5. Further information: Bought new in Nov 2018 for $14,995 (was retailing $17,000/pair back then), see receipt below (Instyle Home Theatre and HiFi, Sydney). In pristine condition, in smoke, child, pet-free home. Original invoice, original double box, glove, velvet covers, power cords. I have been an audiophile since 1999, and owned a number of Musical Fidelity power amplifiers over that time. MF A5 integrated, MF 550K super chargers, MF Nu-VIsta M3, MF M6 500i, M8 Pre amp, and now the M8 700m monos. The M8 700m monoblocks are head and shoulders above all the previously own power amps from MF, with whisper quiet noise floor, sound staging, head space/room, fidelity, warmer richer organic mid range and tighter control in the bass, relentless power to drive any speaker available. Music appears to originate out of complete darkness, instruments have a timbre unique to their material construction, and a room's space opens into a deceptive infinite vast expanse, even at lower sound volumes. Delicacies are handled with utter care and finesse. That's approaching the powerhouse performance of the 1Kw Titan itself, and indeed measurements show that in action there's only about 1.25dB between them. A tremendous amount of power and control, 700W into each 8 ohm channel, or 1,300W into each 4 ohm channel. These amps will drive any speaker available. I use a PS Audio P10 power regenerator, which measures in real time power output, and even in my large listening room with music turned up, the amps are hardly drawing 100W into each of my 4 ohm Duntech Senator speakers (Ie. barely 8% of their capacity)! For further details, get in touch with me. Happy to do a demo to interested persons. Will ship Australia-wide at buyers expense and choice of courier service. For further details about the M8 story: https://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/m8series/m8-story M8-700m - Overview The new M8-700m monoblock power amp is fully balanced, and offers a staggering 700 watts per monoblock, with stellar sound quality and technical performance. The M8-700m has extremely low distortion, typically 0.001% at 1 kHz. At 20 kHz distortion is still below 0.005%. Distortion at 50 kHz (a ridiculous and unreasonable measurement, but revealing of the total amplifier performance nonetheless) is 0.02%. At 100 kHz, it is about 0.06%. These extraordinary measurements, and the extremely low high-frequency distortion, are highly significant sonically. The noise ratio of the M8-700m is extremely low at -120 dB A-weighted. The M8-700m has huge power reserves, producing 700 watts RMS into 8 ohms and just on 1300 watts into 4 ohms. It is an absolute powerhouse. The power, low distortion and the extremely low noise contribute to its fabulous, effortless sound. Sound quality and design The M8-700m is extremely powerful and dynamic. The sound is sweet, clear and uncoloured. Dynamics are massive and are delivered with instantaneous speed, both starting and stopping. The M8s700m sound stage is huge, wide and deep. It creates large amounts of air and space, and is holographic in its presentation. Similar in size and design package to the M6s 500i, the M8-700m offers a compelling combination of fully balanced circuitry, extraordinary technical performance, exquisite sound, intelligent packaging and value for money makes a compelling case. M8-700m In Brief Fully balanced, monster power 700W per monoblock Staggering technical performance Huge peak current delivery Incredible load driving ability, will drive any loudspeaker with any cable Excellent design, he-man build quality Design + Build When we launched our limited-edition Titan power amplifier in back in 2008, its massive power and unique design required very large dimensions and an equally hefty price tag. Subsequent technical advances – plus immense customer interest – have inspired us to develop a more affordable, more conventional-looking successor of the Titan: the M8-700m. The M8-700m is a fully balanced monoblock power amplifier, which – as its model number suggests – packs 700 watts of power in its sleek black casing. That's 700 watts RMS into 8ohms; and about 1300 watts into 4ohms. That's approaching the powerhouse performance of the 1Kw Titan itself, and indeed measurements show that in action there's only about 1.25dB between them. Like its Titan forbear, the M8-700m is engineered for extremely low distortion – typically 0.001% at 1kHz; below 0.005% at 20kHz. Even at the ridiculous level of 50kHz, distortion is a mere 0.02%, creeping up to around 0.06% at 100kHz. They may be unreasonable figures, but they prove a point: the M8s-700m has significantly less distortion than rival measurements. Again like the Titan, the M8-700m is a low-noise power amplifier, with a minimal noise ratio of -120dB A-weighted. The combination of the huge power reserves, low distortion and low noise contribute to the M8-700m's extraordinary, effortless performance. It sounds almost undistinguishable from the Titan, displaying the same ability to deliver anything from massive dynamics to delicate detail with incredible speed and precision. Whatever style of music you want to listen to, the M8-700m serves it up in a spacious soundstage rivalled only by the Titan - or a live musical performance. Its power and balance means the M8-700m can drive just about any speaker you choose, backed by flexible connectivity options. Twin sets of speaker terminals make bi-wiring simple, and the M8s-700m's outputs can be 'daisy chained' to bi-amp suitable speakers. It is, of course, the perfect partner – visually and sonically – for our M8 pre-amp. Reception for the new M8-700m has been highly enthusiastic. Many press reports have highlighted its more room and wallet-friendly form, while What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision dubbed it the "son of Titan". M8-700m - Specifications Performance Power output: 700 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms (28 dBW) THD(+ noise): <0.005% typical Signal to Noise Ratio: >120dB Frequency Response: +0, –1dB, 10Hz to 80kHz Inputs 2x RCA Phono Line Level 1x Line level XLR Balanced 1x Trigger input 3.5mm (1/8”) mono jack ±4.5 to ±15V DC General Dimensions - WxHxD (mm): 440 x 160 x 460 Weight (unpacked / packed): 30 kg / 35.5 kg Sample YouTube Clips below with the MF M8 700m working. Apologies about the artifact microphone hiss. Absolutely, no noise hiss heard before the system. However, some idea of control, finesse and ambience is heard in the clips.

  8. I've found the following in the user manual of "Musical Fidelity M6 500i dual mono integrated amplifier": The preamplifier section features a precision laser-trimmed electronic attenuator. This allows the soundstage to remain rock-steady even as the volume is changed, allowing pinpoint accuracy and precise reconstruction of the original musical experience, at any volume setting. A 7-segment LED display shows the setting down to each individual ½ -dB step of the attenuator. There are no details as to how exactly this works, but it does seem to be a good feature, a step in the right direction, as a lot of listening is done in low volume at night, at least in my case. -J.
  9. FS: Item: FM Tuner Location: Mosman Price: $250 ONO Item Condition: Used, excellent condition Reason for selling: Surplus audio gear Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info:Great sounding FM Tuner from Musical Fidelity. I removed lid just out of curiosity and have shown images of main board and nice toroidal power supply. Pictures:
  10. Item: Musical Fidelity A3 CD player - 24 Bit (A3.2 version) Location: McKinnon, VIC, Price: $300 Item Condition: Excellent Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Deposit Extra Info: This is the highly regarded Musical Fidelity A3 CD player. As show in one of the pictures, Musical Fidelity released the A3.2 player with significant improvements to the A3 in 2002, and according to MF, the A3.2 is "85%" of the nu-vista cd player, their flasgship cd player at the time. A3 cd players sold during March 2002 were actually A3.2s but presumably badged as A3s so MF could use up the existing cases. The pictures show the date of this player to be March 2002. Search A3 or A3.2 online for numerous positive reviews. The sound quality of this player is absolutely top notch, very dimensional and holographic - it makes sense of the music. They really built these to last. This A3 is in very good condition and comes with the original instruction manual and letter from Musical Fidelity shown in the picture, remote and power cable. Even if you have migrated to a computer based/DAC setup and don't plan on acquiring any more cds, there's no easier way to enjoy your existing collection than selecting a disc from the shelf and spinning it in a quality player like this. Local pickup from McKinnon (Melbourne) is preferred due to the delicate nature of cd players. If you wish, I can ship this A3 player Australia wide and require insurance be purchased. I will take care packing the player in a solid shipping carton with plenty of packing. I will not be responsible for any damages incurred during shipping. Pictures:
  11. Item: Rega P3 w RB300 tonearm, Dynavector DV-20X Cartridge (MC), Musical Fidelity X-LPS-v3 Phone Stage (MM/MC) Location: Pyrmont, Sydney Price: $800 Item Condition: Used, but well cared for. Reason for selling: After 13 happy years with the P3, I've upgraded. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal. Extra Info: Note: The P3 and Musical Fidelity both have UK power sockets. Pictures: See attached.
  12. Item: Musical Fidelity kW Hybrid preamplifier Location: Sydney Price: $3095 (price has been substantially dropped) Item Condition: Excellent (just about as new) Reason for selling: Too many preamps Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This was Musical Fidelity's flagship preamp and the last of the 'Made in England' components. It retailed for at least double AFAIK. It features a military-grade 6112 valve per channel. These valves are claimed to have around 100,000 (yes, 100K) hours of life and are cheap to replace (but most likely you would never have to). It was very favourably reviewed by Stereophile's Michael Fremer and the measurements by John Atkinson showed it as being among the very best he ever measured with an enormous power supply (said to be as powerful as a 20 watt amplifier) and he states, "The kW Hybrid has probably the highest dynamic-range capability of any preamplifier I have measured, more even than MF's own kWp..." and he finishes with "this is an extraordinary preamplifier." The unit is heavy, large and beautifully built. Looks as new and comes with the remote control, instructions, original boxes, etc. It sounds superb, with the Hybrid design offering a very dynamic sound (as you'd expect with that massive power supply), it's very detailed, resolving but has a nice touch of warmth and body too. It has some of that midrange magic that valves can offer but has the control and power of a solid state design. This is a stunning preamp and not seen very often in any 'For Sale' section anywhere. It may be considered a classic one day soon too. Have advertised on eBay but will negotiate a slightly better price if SNA member. Pictures:
  13. Item: Musical Fidelity X-DAC v3 Location: Gold Coast (or Brisbane CBD) Price: $350; Postage (if required - not preference) +$35 Item Condition: Excellent. 8/10. Small scratch on fascia, otherwise all good. Reason for selling: Upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Deposit Extra Info: From smoke free, child free and wife-free room (meaning it has never been knocked off the shelf with a duster or smashed with a vacuum cleaner). Has English power supply, however Australian converter is included. Stupendous sound, especially with 24/96 files from the Squeezebox. Pickup is preferred where you can hear it operating in my system (Gold Coast only, not Brisbane CBD), however I will post (Aust only) in original packaging (as photographed) but unfortunately take no responsibility for a working DAC when it arrives at your end, implied or explicit. 14. Hi all, I have recently acquired a set of Sennheiser HD650's and have been thinking of what to get as for a Headphone amp and what to get for a DAC.. The output will go into whatever headphone amp I get (most likely a Bottlehead Crack) as well as a Pioneer SA-708. What do you think I should get for roughly $500? I have been thinking of getting the following. Schiit Bitfrost 4490. Musical Fidelity V90 Dac. Used Musical Fidelity M1 DAC. Also does anyone know of a good dac capable of DSD playback under about $800 which has a noticeable difference between PCM and DSD but also plays pcm well? Heres a list of some music that I like to listen too: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/49243-need-suggestions-on-tracks-for-home-stereo-demo-testing/?p=1508624 Thanks, Ted.

  17. Item: Musical Fidelity M1 HPA Location: Canberra Price: $640 + postage. Item Condition: One small mark on top edge (shown in photo), otherwise perfect. Reason for selling: Need some cash and the MF is an optional system component. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank Transfer. Extra Info: I purchased the Musical Fidelity M1 HPA last year from Miranda HiFi to use primarily as a preamp with the Weiss DAC2 and W4S Monoblocks. Its inclusion in my system massively improved on the sound I was getting with a direct connection from the Weiss to my power amps. The class A MF M1 HPA is clean, powerful and detailed, but has a subtle sweetness that is very inviting. I haven't used it much as a headphone amp (I don't have high-end phones) so I can't comment on it in that role, though it reviews well. Similarly, I have never used its USB DAC but understand that it is fairly basic. When I purchased it it retailed for $1K but it looks as though it goes for $900 now. Here's a review: http://www.techradar...a-720752/review Prior to removing it from my system it was in completely immaculate "as new" condition. However, I clumsily managed to knock the top edge with a power cable while extracting it, and it now has a small mark which I have tried to capture in the photographs. I have all the original packing etc. Pictures:
  18. Hi, The remote for my Musical Fidelity A5 integrated amp has stopped working so I need a replacement. I can't imagine their being a MF one available so if you have a spare universal one let me know please. Or any suggestions on how to fix it. Cheers, L11
