  1. Further Information: These beautiful Lenehan MLT3 speakers have upgraded crossovers designed and installed by Mike Lenehan. They are in piano black and present and sound as new. The crossovers were upgraded to plus R spec by Mike Lenehan and feature ribbontec wiring, duelund silver capacitors and 10 gauge hand-wound inductors (see picture below). They cost just under $10k new, and sound as good now. I have had them since 2017 and am only selling them now because I upgraded (? - continuing to try different components as part of this hobby/obsession). These are wonderful speakers. I live near Bermagui on the far south coast of NSW, and you are welcome to audition if you live within range. I drive to Sydney regularly, so could potentially deliver between here and there also.
  2. Further Information: A pair of references grade Lenehan foilflex XLR cables in as new condition. Comes with original boxes. These are 1.5m lengths. They compete with much more expensive XLRs.
  3. Hi, I've been playing around with acoustics a bit (I work in Noise and Vibration) and was keen to upgrade our listening at home. Then I started browsing on the net more and more. This site seems like a really good place to develop your acoustics knowledge. I was trying to justify getting some ML1's, but need to develop a plan. Stuart
  4. In Brisbane area, or willing to ship. Must be in good condition - colour not important. Thanks
  5. Hi there, does anyone have a set of Lenehan Audio ML2 (Reference or Plus R's) for Sale ? If so I would be interested thanks C
  6. My S2Rs have been run in for about 350 hours now and I have to say I think they sound fantastic. Back when they were young (circa 10 hours old) they sounded a bit like a bigger ML1, punchy and light but with a slightly deeper throat. Somewhere between 150 and 200 hours things started to change, the bass smoothed out and the soundstage widened, at about 250 hours the mid range seemed to expand by about 50% and somewhere just beyond 300 hours the bass smoothed out and strengthened. So the bass changed from the crack and rumble of an approaching thunderstorm to the skeletal shuddering of a sort of calm, reassuring earthquake, one that makes you smile! I ran a few different amps during this run in period, the Burson 160 pre/power combo, the QLS QA100 direct digital amp, and AJs Hypex Ncores fed from the pre section of the Myryad Z142 (is there anything this little Myryad can't do?). Everything sounded good, though I think the Ncores may have sounded "gooder" than most. I've certainly found a speaker that suits me down to the ground, it goes from the deep, full-bodied rumble of a steel drum to the light, airy plucked string of an acoustic guitar with poise and certainty. I love the way I can hear that "Another One Bites The Dust" was recorded with a bit of hash to the background but it still sounds just as good as I remember it. The blast of the trumpets from "Ride of the Valkyries" still manages to send shivers down my spine when it sounds this good. I never thought I'd like Bongo drums but they sound so good on good speakers I now love them to bits! The soundstaging of these things puts me in mind of a long wooden hall, about 4 times as long and at least 3 times as wide as my little listening room, when I close my eyes I can picture the singer and band performing on a stage at the front while I sit 3/4s of the way down, bloody brilliant! And I haven't even mentioned the vocals yet! I'm going to try a few different amps over the next few days and see if my previous rankings hold up. (After that it'll probably be power amps all the way to April, with an integrated or two thrown in for good measure.) If anyone out there is thinking of buying a pair of S2s I can certainly recommend them, excellent speakers!
  7. Now that I have a pair of ML1s (just the stock standard ones) and since I happen to have a few integrated amps "lying around" I thought I would do a little "product pair testing" and see which integrateds work best with the ML1s. I've already reviewed so many that I've lost count on my Osborns so now it is time for the Lenehans to have a turn. These ML1s are great speakers, they have a big presence for such a small box size. The bass is greatly extended (though not so deep or powerful as the Osborns) with a nice smooth and fluid mid range and highs that are sweet and greatly extended (the Osborns can be harsh, the Lenehans have not yet sounded harsh on anything) from those I am used to hearing so far. Since these ML1s are much lower efficiency than the Eclipses, 86 vs 93db I am hoping they will be more of a challenge for the integrateds and maybe force them to show a different side of themselves than they have on the Eclipses. The Burson PI160 was first up (and maybe it shouldn't have been!), after hearing it perform on the S2s at our recent GTG on the Gold Coast I just had to give it an extended listen back here at home. Damn it sounds good! The crisp notes and airy highs and mids just sound brilliant through the ML1s and the bass is very fast and just the right amount of deep. The Burson actually sounds better on the ML1s than it did on the Osborns. It has snap, it has speed, it has nicely airy vocals, great instrument separation... It's just a great amp, full stop! To follow the Burson I hooked up the Primare I22, it also performed extremely well at the GTG. The Primare has a full sound with quite a bit of warmth to it (I don't claim to know how it can do this, being class d and all, just that it does). It doesn't give bass as deep as the Burson but it makes up for it with a sort of follow through on the music that makes note decay last so long that it doesn't end prior to the song moving on. Whereas the Burson is happy to get on with the music the Primare just doesn't let go. The Primare sounds nice and strong but it does not have the instant snap of the Burson, in fact the warmth seems to blunt any sudden transients to the point where they " move strongly forward" rather than "leap out" at you. For smooth and flowing music the Primare is the master, but for sudden attack and fast transients the Burson is far more competent. I was liking both the amps for their different takes on the music, until on a whim I went back to the Burson after the Primare and realized that it was just so much more enjoyable to listen to. The Primare is a good amp but the Burson is just a cut above when used on the ML1s. To sum up, the Primare is a warm and fluffy sound that makes you feel good (like cocooning yourself in your favourite doona on a chilly night) but the Burson has a foot-tapping-factor (or P.R.A.T.) that is so high you could sprain both your ankles without even leaving your recliner, giving you a good reason to call in sick and spend the day listening to music. Next up the Xindak A08, and then maybe the Krell 300i.
  8. Mike has been talking about a Get Together for a while now and has settled on Saturday February the 16th, 11am at the factory. I haven't been to one of Mikes GTGs before so I'm not sure what the go is usually with food and drink but I'm sure we'll be able to work something out with respect to lunch, softdrinks and maybe a few coldies for later on. Can't go leaving the venue for a food or drink run when there's serious audio business to be sorted! Weather permitting I plan to bring down my Halcro amp and pre a few days prior to the GTG so they should be available for anyone who is interested in having a listen, with Bills approval I'd like to run them through his ML2LEs for a while, just because I am dying to know how they will sound. Mike has asked me to put up the announcement and to get an idea of numbers so if you are interested in coming please let me know via PM or reply to this thread. Hope to see you there!

  10. I joined this forum specifically to record my experiences with Lenehan Audio, who delivered to me the following system last week: iMac front end with BitPerfect running iTunes, 2TB hard disk drive, dedicated to music only Lenehan Audio PDX Level 2 DAC Two Arion HS 500 momblock amplifiers Lenehan Audio interconnects and speaker cables Lenehan Audio ML2 Reference speakers, Porsche Silver in colour, with matched Lenehan Audio stands Two AMG's At the outset I should say I am not an audiophile. I was just looking for a system that would not limit my enjoyment of music, and which might exceed my level of audiophile ability to discriminate, hoping I could grow into an appreciation of it over time. I listened to all usual suspects that are available commercially but did not find what I was looking for at a price I could afford. Eventually I stumbled onto a post by the venerable bhobba of this forum, and started to read about Lenehan Audio. After visiting Mike on the Gold Coast I subsequently went to the ML3 launch in Epping on 12th March, at his invitation. Before parting from Mike at Epping that day I told him I wanted to put my foot on the first pair of ML2 Reference's and took the plunge and ordered the first pair of Arions then and there - all sight unseen and unheard, all done on a handshake. It was a bit of gamble on my part. But those of you who know Mike well will understand why I was prepared to put faith in him. Then we embarked on a long period of communications while the gear was being built (including one to clarify the true ownership of the first pair of Arions as they stumbled into the country!). Many email exchanges (at least 40) and phone calls were involved. I have been watching the forum posts passing by as I waited for my system to arrive, and was relieved to see the generally enthusiastic reception the new gear was getting. The system finally arrived last Wednesday and I had it set up and running by the time Mike arrived at my place in Newcastle on Friday night for the true inauguration. Mike spent about an hour undoing everything thing I had done and setting it all up again. Then we shared wine and food with a room full of friends........and listened. Well I know that I am unable to hear everything that you true audiophiles out there can hear, and I will not attempt to use your abstruse descriptive terms, but I am 100% satisfied. The system both looks and sounds brilliant. The limitations to my appreciation of this system are probably now, in order of importance: Me The room The recordings themselves I know that I have a sound system that will serve me well for years to come. (Perhaps one more addition though..... may be a proper stand with vibration isolation? Has Mike got me looking down the audiophile rabbit hole? How did Alice in Wonderland feel? Does it ever end? Must resist!). But a description of the gear and its performance is not really why I wanted to join this forum. The reason for me joining is really to say a few words about Mike. I have been around the block a few times and know a good'un when I see one. Mike is a first class person and his boundless enthusiasm, transparent honesty and generosity with his time defined my relationship with Lenehan Audio. As I came to grips with putting this system together I found that I could call Mike anytime and get a good hearing and detailed advice, and that he responded to every concern I had. Then, to top it all off Mike came to my place and helped me with the setup during a most pleasant evening, which included some fascinating conversations on the psychology of listening to music and what this means for stereo systems. Mike is a master of his subject. No discussion of this experience would be complete without a comment about value. I am quite convinced that I could not have spend the same amount of money in any other way and got such a great system, and having a personal relationship with the maker only adds to the lustre. Mike tells me that this is "the best system he has put together yet". Perhaps he tells that to all the girls!.........but one only needs to spend a little time with Mike to appreciate that when he says something like this it should be taken seriously....and also to understand that it won't be long before he makes a better one! In case you are wondering, I am not a salesman for Mike, just a very satisfied customer - you can talk to him and listen to his gear if you want to find out for yourself. Thanks Mike, and Clay on the PDX, and also all the crew at Lenehan Audio (who I am told have their production gear smoking right now). Thanks also to those of you who have been in Mike's critical listening circle, and may well have had something to do with the evolution of this gear as well. "Alice"
