Impressive as I am normally into Electrostats, Planar and Ribbon speakers. Very versatile and allow use of Set Valve Amps due to their 100db efficiency. 6. Item: JBL Everest horns + optional B&C DCM-50 drivers Location: Fitzroy North Price: $1300 for horns, $2100 for horns & drivers Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: time for new horn adventures Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: So several of us went down the path of building quasi-JBL Everest DD55000 clones. I love the Everest horns, largely because to me they don't sounds like horns in the sense that they don't have what i call horn colouration. Certainly the speakers shown are by far the best speakers I have ever had, and indeed are one of the best speakers I have ever heard. I have had a few get togethers here and it seems this view is shared by others. So what is up for sale here are the JBL horns that are used for midrange. This pair is not the first pair up for sale on StereoNet, but in my opinion these are the best, because: (i) they are filled with crushed garnet, (ii) they come with supports for the compression driver, and (iii) they are spray painted a beautiful grey colour (they look better IRL than they do in these photos). Speaking of which, if someone wants to buy these horns, they have first dibs on the B&C DCM-50 compression drivers, which are a perfect match to the horns. They are in mint condition, and I am the original owner. I still have the original boxes (although they are under my house somewhere, and in any case they are simple cardboard boxes). See https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/249858-sold-fs-bc-dcm50-compression-drivers-2/ for more information on these amazing drivers. Pictures:
  7. Item: 500Hz Sectoral Horns to suit Altec and other small format compression drivers Location: Sydney South Price: $400 for the pair Item Condition: Refurbished, excellent paint job, no corrosion, see pictures Reason for selling: Left over from project Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Only Extra Info: These 500Hz Sectoral horns have been sandblasted and powder coated Satin Black and have absolutely no scratches or corrosion. They are missing the original 511B badges however I can supply a new pair with them if desired. Data Sheet: http://alteclansingunofficial.nlenet.net/proloudspeakers/sectoralhorns/511B&811B-Data.pdf Weight: 8.05kg each. Shipment: Will send interstate at purchasers expense. Pictures:
  8. Item: Avantgarde Acoustic Duo (Horn) Speakers Location: Sydney Price: now REDUCED to $11,000 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Downgrading due to business investment opportunity Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (with fees), Direct Bank Transfer Extra Info: I am selling these on behalf of a mate who is looking to raise some funds for a new business venture. No original packaging/shipping crates so pick up in Sydney preferred. Price reduced to accomodate this. Interstate buyers will need to get a mate to pick the speakers up in Sydney and sort out shipping for you. Again reduced sale price reflects this inability of the seller to deal with packing and shipping. These are 1st generation Avantgarde Duo horns, 8 ohms, approx 101dB sensitivity and have powered subwoofers. Lots of specification info is available on the web. The horns are Blue in colour. The speakers have not seen any use in the last 2+ years as I have been storing them in my home office for my mate. Pictures:
  9. Just received my new Lenard Audio Opal active 4-way system. Made in Bundalaguah, Victoria. They have Acoustic Elegance TD18H+ 18" bass drivers, and JBL 2206 12" mids, JBL 2446 2" upper mid compression drivers and 2405 slot radiator tweeters. Beautiful Tassie Blackwood cabinets. Thank you to John and Paul at Lenard for their fantastic advice and assistance. They sound better than any system I've ever heard, price no object! The bass performance is staggering, and separation, imaging and staging beautiful. We've been glued to the couch for the last two days just listening. The Opals unveil beauty in recorded music which I never thought existed.
  10. Item: Altec 805B Horns x 2 Location: Gosford NSW Price: $435 neg Item Condition: Could do with a tidy-up. Reason for selling: No time or room Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Purchased here last year for $500 plus interstate freight. AS usual, my ambitions were greater than my available time and space but hey, I'm sure most if not all of us can relate! Time for the annual Audionutz "Culling of the Herd" - many more to come! 11. Item: Altec 802-8D Horns and Compression drivers Location: Canberra Price: $1000 neg Item Condition: Cosmetically a bit rough but should be fine Reason for selling: Not needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These came from the recording studio at the Canberra School of music. I am not sure how to text them as I presume I need a crossover so as to send the right frequencies through. This seems a fair price, they have been listed for up to $4000 on eBay (although that might be an optimistic seller) I can bring them to Sydney or post them - going to SydneyAugust 3-10 Pictures:

  13. Hi all, These speakers have come up for sale in Tasmania and I was wondering if anyone knows about them? The person is asking $450 for them, I'm unsure of their worth? I'm interested in them as a good match for my SET amp due to their 96db sensitivity. Wondering if anyone had any experience with them. Thanks, Duncan

  15. Hi, I've only been researching hifi for a year, with the intention of sourcing a new system, and it seems the industry is generally split in two in the 5-15k range: - vendors with 4+ ways and they're generally <8", think paradigm / MA etc etc - DIY with >10" woofers with !horns! I don't quite understand the split. For context my favourite speaker I heard at the hifi show was the jbl S4700, yes, a vendor version of the latter. I do like large woofers. So if you wouldn't mind indulging my curiosity: - why the split? - why not buy the commercial versions? Too much fun playing with less finicky boxes than the smaller cousins and deqx?
  16. After doing my reading homework I have started building a couple of closed loudspeakers. Next on the list are 3-way hornspeakers modeled with hornresp. I am here mainly because Paul Spencer has a lot of experience with some drivers that I intend to use ( 8PS21), I would like to combine them with a 12" driver in a tapped horn. Apart from that, wish I had time to visit Australia, have never been there, what a shame...
  17. Item: pair of AH-340 Azurahorns & matching JBL 2435HPL compression drivers Location: Melbourne Price: $1400 + shipping Now only $1200, free shipping within Australia Item Condition: horns brand new, still in unopened box from the manufacturer; JBL drivers used but in good condition Reason for selling: change in direction Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Pictures:I don't have photos, but can take some if there is serious interest. I am selling my brand new AH-340 Azurahorns (with the complete Le Cléac’h flare back) - I have not even opened the box - together with a used pair of JBL 2435HPL Beryllium diaphragm compression drivers, one of the best midrange drivers ever made. I bought these late last year, but never used any of them because I then decided to go in a completely different direction. These horns and drivers are the same ones that SNA member Lansche Plasma Guy uses for the midrange in his outstanding horn system, which many say is the one of the best systems they have ever heard, and certainly the best horn system many have heard. In my original listing, SNA member ENIGMA said: "rab, you should be hanging on to these and completing the project!!! Whoever buys these are only a hand full of good amps, a pair of tweeters, a good pair 15" drives in appropriate boxes and a miniDSP away from pure bliss." Want to build a state of the art horn system ? Want concert level volumes from a 1 Watt amplifier? These can form the heart of such a system.
  18. Hi Gents I've been looking around for quite a while for a speaker that would allow me to keep my beloved Audio Innovations 500 valve amp that I bought to celebrate my 21st birthday 23 years ago. It still works very well but it's less than an ideal match for my original Acoustic Energy AE1's now i have bigger room. I'd like a bit more bass for movies, and the ability to play some organ music or a realy sonorous chello piece once in a while would put a smile on mine and my Dads face! I've been working as a full time draughtsmen for about 6 years and really miss the fun of making stuff. Satifying a number of needs in one go the little big horn kit fits the bill, Not cheap but the reviews on the originals are pretty awesome so the deposits been paid! I've built plenty of precision stuff so no real worries getting the project constructed. Being in kit form I can choose and order the parts as the money arrives. So the main challenges are: Getting it to sound at least as good as an original pair. Getting it to look as good. I've had a long e-mail discussion with Andrew and lots of advice has been received - thanks. The critical parts appear to be the size of the chamber behind the main driver - any speaker requiring more space than the Lowther DX3' and 4's supplied in the original could stuff things up nicely. I'm inclined to go for broke on the horn driver and buy some Lowthers. The next part is the integration of the subwoofer output with the horn. Andrew has reccomended the Oaudio 300watt bash amp as being good value. I've priced it up and it's only fractionally dearer than Dayton Audio 250watt plate. The Oaudio includes full phase adjustment 0-180degrees rahter than just a phase reversal switch. Sub drivers is a big question - i'd like to go low enough to put a bit of guts into Bach's Toccata and Fugue (or some Rammstein) but i definitely want to stay away from the boyracer stuff - music not thump please. The cabinet for the drivers works out at about 84 litres. The original Carfrae design had a peerless driver and a port in each base unit on one side. This enabled the base units to be swapped under the horns from left to right fireing into the centre or out to the sides of a room. I quite like the idea of a passive radiator design but wonder how the directionality of the bass would be affected with a driver one side and the radiator back to back on the other side would be. Your thoughts and advice on this and cone type for music would be appreciated - paper, cloth, polypropylene, aluminium? I've never had deep bass from a pair of speakers - so i've never had the chance to gain much experience. Last but not least how to finish MDF given the size of these things spraying them in or out of doors is out of the question. I'm thinking about someone witn a spray booth. There's a few horror stories about DIY MDF cabinets cracking up around the seams long after painting due to weather, home heating watever. It would be relatively easy to set up a router and put a tiny bevel on the edge of each section of MDF before i start gluing things together this might lessen the visual impact of any cracking whilst putting a subtle set of stripes on the horn. Your thoughts please. Ta Steve
