  3. I finally lashed out on a Sansui TU-X1 tuner. Gotta love something worth more now than when it was new over 35 years ago, but they have a great reputation and I do desperately want to be able to listen to live concerts when possible...sort of make it a date with my wife, put the kids to bed and retreat to the music room to listen to Mahler down at QPAC or the BBC proms at Royal Albert Hall. So I call a local antenna mob about installing something on the roof to point at the Bunya Mountains so my ancient, overpriced, oversized black box of Japanese beauty can help me enjoy quality time with my lovely wife that I no longer have to woo but want to anyway. But there is a spanner in my plan...the antenna guy has never done an FM installation and I don't really know enough about what I need to be sure someone like that gives me the right tool for the task. Who am I gonna call? Where do I find info on the antenna I need in my specific situation? What can I read? All help appreciated. Cheers, Anthony
  4. A big hello to everyone on S.N, I did a quick search and I appear to be the only one experiencing what I would describe as a 'cycling' sound during FM102.5 reception. This sound occurs only when I'm tuned into this frequency while other stations either side of 102.5 appear ok. Background: I'm located <5km from the broadcast tower in Phillip St Sydney. Lux T-300 tuner w/. indoor 300ohm 'ribbon' aerial. I realise the indoor aerial is not ideal but I don't think it's the problem as the issue is not about signal strength per se. Strength is >90 on the signal meters. The sound: If one could imagine the monotonous repetition of a rotating wheel or pulley heard during the quieter passages during the broadcast then you have it. This has had me stumped for a number of months now... In the event that it was a local issue I tried unplugged everything in the flat with the exception of amp/tuner for no change. I've determined the problem exists at any time of the day or night, during the week or on weekends. If it is indeed a local issue then why it would only surface at the one frequency? Any advice or pointers to rectify this situation are greatly appreciated. EDIT: I forgot to add above that I have tried an outdoor TV aerial via a splitter but the 'noise' remains.
  5. I have a small space in which I'd like a small FM tuner. Currently doing duty is a Sansa MP3 player - which has a few flaws. Worst of which are: no external antenna and lots of noise when the battery charges. What else out there is smaller (and possibly cheaper) than a Tivoli Model One (which has a good tuner but The Other Half would immediately Impress it into service elsewhere). Currently thinking of re-boxing a generic tuner/boom box FM section. But there's got to be a better way
