  1. Item: Supratek Cabernet Dual Location: Was shipped back to Mick Maloney to check and retuned/upgrade. Price: $3300 Item Condition: Excellent. Black finish is no longer provided by Mick due to the difficulty in creating this finish. Reason for selling: Purchased the Supratek CORTESE LCR Preamp as I wanted a phono integrated preamp. Payment Method: Paypal, Extra Info: In production for over 10 years the Cabernet Dual has the 6SN7 linestage and a seperate, independent 6H30 linestage with its own level control. Both are then controlled by a master volume. This arrangement is ideal for bi-amping , allowing for very precise adjustment of bass and mid/treble in loudspeakers with bi-amp connectors. It can also be used as a subwoofer control. Loudspeaker designers are always compromised in selecting the tonal balance of a loudspeaker but with a Dual Cabernet you can easily adjust tone to suit room and your taste. Preamp has been sent back to Mick Maloney to check and retune/upgrade as required. It will be shipped from WA by Mick. It is in excellent condition. My ebay name is alex789hifi and I have 100% positive feedback. I keep all of my gear in excellent condition. I love Mick's preamps, they always perform way above their price tag. It comes with a remote and user manual. Mick does not believe in ruining the look of his preamps with labels hence they are free of anything that will take away from their beauty other the Supratek badge on the front. Unit has both RCA and balanced connectors. Review of the Full Music 300B/SE tube "'While Chinese too, the top TJ/Full Music is a classic again. On both build quality and sonics, it's a Western Electric a bit on steroids. This may not hold true vis-à-vis the fabled original WE but with its rarity and silly NOS prices, that's academic to mere mortals. Why Western Electric has discontinued—or temporarily suspended—availability of popular reissues is anyone's guess. That said, the TJ 300B SE renders the question mute. While flatly expensive, it remains a more affordable option than the $1.200/pr which WE reissues commanded when last I checked. "' http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/tj+synergy/1.html Review of Supratek Cabernet Dual '"I've talked about the concept of alchemy. It suggests an answer to the vexing question of how apparent redundancy -- the very existence of this product category -- could do this. I'm convinced that it's a matter of signal conditioning. Like powerline conditioning that works (not all really does), active preamps of the Supratek's caliber are far from superfluous. In fact, I'm beginning to accede that they might be central to our pursuits. They could be instrumental in pushing a system firmly from the mechanical into the organic realm of operation. If you know Mariza's Transparente album, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's all about the breath beyond physical lung action. It envelops everything, all of the accompanying instruments, in particular Mário Pacheco's weeping Portuguese guitar. Forget notated scores. They tell what notes to play. They don't begin to suggest how to suspend them as living things in temporal space; how to make them dance. Transparente then becomes a poster child for the Cabernet. And the album title is equally fitting. If this kind of review talk rings your bells, the Supratek Cabernet Dual is your kind of device. It's a terrifically inspired piece of the advanced audio design arts. Black arts - for white magic..." https://6moons.com/audioreviews/supratek3/dualcabernet_2.html https://6moons.com/audioreviews/supratek3/dualcabernet.html Pictures:
  2. Item: ATC SCM40A Location: Moonee Ponds, Melbourne Price: $11,500 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Looking at an upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: In excellent condition and under two years old. Still have plenty left in the six year warranty. The SCM40A's are really well reviewed (see links below) and punch well above their price bracket. They are a big step up from the passive SCM40's (I have both) having the advantage of no crossover to sap power and their own built in amps which have been designed and built by ATC in the UK to suit each driver, one for each driver. These are in excellent condition and come with all packaging and manuals. Although ATC state that their speakers need not be run in I noted that mine changed somewhat over the journey with the bottom end filling out and the overall sound becoming more refined. ATC speakers, and the SCM40A's are no exclusion, play it as it is, no sugar coating. I've had a few pairs of ATC's now including SCM20SL, SCM10, SCM40 passive, SCM50SL actives and now the 40 Actives. They all have own strengths but overall they all have the same sound signature. The 50's were the most exciting and realistic but that came with the penalty that anything that was the slightest bit harsh or poorly recorded really showed on the 50's. The active 40's on the other hand have a good dollop of that realism of the 50's but without the studio live or die sound. The 50's were sold as I either loved them or hated them and rarely anything in between. The active 40's have the new ATC tweeter which is head and shoulders above the Seas unit in the 50's and give the 40's a 3D soundstage that the 50's couldn't hope to come close to. The 50's listening experience was all between the speakers, the 40's is much more holographic. Mine are in as new condition. They were purchased at Stereophonic in Melbourne. The RRP at the time was $17,999 but it's dropped back to $15,999. The passives are still $8799 so if you were looking at the passives just add a couple of grand and jump up to my actives and you get a whole lot of amplifier(s) built into the deal. I don't think Stereophonic stock the larger ATC models now as there was always a wait for them to come in from the importers, they could access Harbeth and other brands much more quickly. So, if you were considering some SCM40A's and were looking at new be prepared for a wait, otherwise mine are here. So, are these worth the extra over the passives. Depends on what you have to spend and what you can justify. I had the chance to use a range of amps and pre amps with my passive SCM40 mk2's. I ran them for a long time with a Doge 8 valve pre and a monster Primare A32 250 wpc power amp. This combo was great with gobs of power and control. Then I tried them with a range of ME power amps. Firstly it was the little ME240 integrated, then a late model 850 and finally the big brute 1500. Things got better further up the scale of ME amp with the 1500 being by far the most visually impressive and powerful. I think the sweet spot was the 850 as the 1500 may have exhibited too much control over the bass drivers (after I'd tried all of the amps Peter Stein told me he would expect that result as the 1500 is designed to run speakers which require alot of power and control). The passive 40's took all I could throw at them with the ME products. Each of the ME amps made my big Primare sound pretty light on and whimpy by comparison. So, as much as I really liked the passives with ME power I decided to get the actives as there was still something missing. Some months back I bought the obvious companion for my passive 40's which was the ATC SIA2-150 integrated amp. I bought it with the intention of running a second system of sorts. The passives sit up the back of my room and do duty as HT rears. The ATC amp was to power them mainly for when I felt like swinging the chair around for a different ATC sound. Anyway, loved the combo, as good as any of the other amp combos I'd heard. After a few hours curiosity got the better of me so I lugged speakers and integrated and plonked them down next to their active cousins. It was a passive SCM40 MK2/SIA2-150 combo versus the ATC CA2 pre amp/SCM40A battle, doesn't get much fairer. The result, well, the integrated was sold some time after and the passives went up the back again. What ever the passives did well the actives did better in every respect. The sound was much more alive and yet controlled. The bottom end on the actives is sooo much more detailed and powerful but only when it needs to be. So, ultimately, the actives are the go. The crossover in the passives just gets in the way and it's really hard to beat dedicated amps powering each driver individually and not wasting power in crossovers. So, I have my passives up for sale as well. I'm looking at an upgrade with will require the sale of both sets plus some. I won't sell either set of 40's until I know the other is sold as well. If someone is keen on either pair please keep in mind that both must sell or I keep both. I don't want to end up with one pair and short of money for my upgrade. I won't take an age to work through this as I have my passives up and have some interest already in a day. Please don't low ball me on price. I have to sell both and need to find some more as well. I won't sell at substantially reduced pricing just to get a sale as I'm happy with these speakers and will keep them if need be without an upgrade. Can be demo'd in Moonee Ponds. Can courier at buyer's expense. Classic Wolfson DAC Generation. Everything works perfectly. The outer casing is original showing some wear, but overall it is clean and in very good condition, as it was always kept in the case included with the sale. Good battery life. It has been sitting unused for many years, as I have used mobile phones as music players once they got good audio quality. This 5.5 Generation model has "a 60 percent brighter and more vibrant 2.5-inch color display" than the prior 5th Generation model. 5th Gen iPod classic which has the best DAC of any iPod due to the legendary Scottish made Wolfson WM8758 DAC, (The Wolfson DAC is a unique Digital to Audio converter acclaimed by audiophiles for it's rich bass and top-notch acoustics.) This is the 5.5th Gen ‘Enhanced’ (hard to spot because it has exactly the same model number as the 5th Gen iPod. (A1136)). The only way to tell the ‘Enhanced’ apart is that it has a ‘Search’ option in the software. (See photo of my screen) Fantastic audio when paired with a good set of headphones and ALAC or FLAC!! 5. Item: Complete Naim System: Naim 250 CB Power Amp, Naim 102 Pre Amp, TeddyCap and all cables Location: Barwon Heads Price: $2,650 - Price reduced Item Condition:Very Good Reason for selling:No longer used enough Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Transfer Extra Info: Now in retirement, and with very ageing ears, I have finally decided to part company with my Naim system. I know I will regret this decision, but is just not getting enough use. My journey with Naim began with my first amp and pre in 1981. I acquired this 250 "Chrome Bumper" power amp in 1984, as the second owner, and added to and upgraded my Naim system over the next 15 years. I am the first and only owner of all the other equipment in this sale. My last upgrade was in 2012 to the DualTeddycap (from HiCap and Flatcap) and it provides power to all devices (essentially replacing two HiCaps and a NAPSC) and, in my view, better bass control. The units have been serviced by a well known Melbourne Naim expert. Last service to the Naim 250 and 102 was in December 2012. NOTE: I preferred to sell the system complete, but I am now offering the Naim 250 CB Power Amp and Naim NACA5 speaker cables as a separate bundle. (See new advert) Strictly PERSONAL pick up only for the Naim 250 CB, but I will post other items if required. I can demonstrate the complete system working in my home to the successful purchaser. All items are in very good condition, working perfectly and sounding beautiful! I am fastidious about looking after my hifi, and only I am allowed to operate it. It is used in a separate " music room" where I also play my piano in our non-smoking home. Complete with all original boxes, manuals and invoices. I estimate that I would need to spend close to $15,000 today, for an equivalent Naim system! Items included in the purchase price are as follows: 1. Naim NAP 250 "Chrome Bumper" power amp. Serial #1535. Complete with original power chord and Naim 4 pin SNAIC interconnect cable to 250. Still seen by many as the best sounding Naim power amp. 2. Naim NAC 102 Pre Amp. Serial #155828. Complete with Naim remote control, Link Pin and Naim 5 pin SNAIC interconnect cable to Pre Amp. 3. Teddy Pardo DualTeddyCap power supply. Serial # 14308876. Complete with all Teddy cables to 250, 102 and power cable. (Will also provide NAPSC power for any Naim CD player) 4. Naim NACA5 speaker cables. 3.5m Pair BONUS: Arcam Delta 280 FM Tuner available to the successful purchaser for only $100! (value new $1200) Pictures: (NOTE: the Naim CD player in the system photograph has now been sold) Note: I have shot a short video of the Naim 250 CB Power Amp, Naim 102 Pre Amp, TeddyCap working together playing some music to demonstrate the setup. In this case, I have provided the source input on from an old Arcam DVD player playing a CD. If anyone would like to view this I can provide a link to a Google Photos Album.

  14. Item: Grado PS500e Professional Series Headphones + Extension Cable + G-cush ear pads Location: Carlton North, 3054 Price: $500 or $520 SHIPPED (RRP $932 including accessories) Item Condition: Everything as new, including ear cups Reason for selling: No longer using headphones Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW I purchased these from Addicted to Audio at the end of last year, thinking I would be using them from a long time as I didn't have space for my speakers. My situation changed, and now I'm back to speakers, so I'm selling these because they won't be used nearly as much as they deserve. The headphones sound clear, lively and dynamic, great fun to listen to. In my opinion, far superior than the RS1e headphones that are $100 more expensive. I demoed these headphones among many others at AtA using my headphone amp (also for sale), and these cans came out on top. They also have a lot of the same technology that goes into the much more expensive PS1000e and PS2000e flagship. They have been used VERY lightly. Original box and paperwork all supplied. Also included - Grado's extension cable (RRP $58) and G-cush ear cups (RRP $75), which in my opinion are a worthwhile addition. They change the sound signature quite significantly and make the headphones more versatile for all kinds of music, amps, and sources. These pair excellently with my headphone amp that I'll also be listing for sale. Can work out a deal if anyone would like to purchase the two together. If there are any keen interstate buyers I can also work out shipping and pack them securely, no problem.
  15. Item: Yamaha B-1 and UC-1 controller, both totally restored Location: Adelaide Hills Price: 4800 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Need the funds elsewhere (sad face) Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Another sale I never anticipated.... This is a factory 240v unit that was given a ground up restoration last year by a highly experienced vfet enthusiast. All 18 vfet devices are original and unchanged, all resistors, capacitors (including a new design power capacitor board), diodes, relays and other transistors were replaced along with cleaning every switch, pot and contact point. LEDs were installed in the VU meters as well as new thermal paste for the giant 2SK77 Vfet outputs. Critical resistors were installed raised from the supporting board to ensure adequate heat dissipation (a known trouble spot for these amps). Finally 5 new sets of binding posts were installed to replace the original bare wire terminals. The B-1 was Yamahas foray into cost-no-object concept building and remains the most powerful Vfet amp commercially made. Rated at 160 watts per channel but independently tested in the 70s by Bascom King to deliver somewhere near 220. Considering this is a solid state triode amp, thats some mean feat! Comes with the small face plate for "basic" operation as well, meaning only one set of output terminals are active rather than the 5 you get with the UC-1 controller in play. Inbuilt defeatable rumble filter as well which may be a handy feature. Also supplied with a very quiet computer cooling fan which was recommended to keep the driver boards running a little cooler- this baby runs quite warm. At 37kg for the amp alone and another 5 for the controller freight will be a bit but can be achieved- I'll ship the controller separately in a million layers* of bubble wrap to protect the huge and lightning fast VU meters. *may not actually be a million layers.....but will be way more than adequate. 17. Item: Mid century Genuine Danish Rosewood cabinet item 1 can be used as hifi rack Location:Melbourne, Balaclava Price: negotiable Item Condition:Excellent vintage condition Reason for selling:Moving house Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info:I am selling 3 of my beloved danish pieces. They are genuine mid century pieces originally purchased from Great Dane in Melbourne. This is item 1. It is an absolutetly stunning cabinet in blonde Brazilian rosewood. It is a genuine mid century piece. I have personally owned this for 14years and will be very sad to see it moved on. I recently had it independently valued by Leonard Joel at $1500-2000 but I am open to offers as I would like to move it on to a new custodian. It is beautiful on the inside with dark rosewood veneers internally with leather shelf linings and even a rosewood tray built in. It has another less sectioned side that I have previously used this and the other cabinet as a hifi cabinet . The right side is perfect hifi cabinet and has the added benefit of vents at the the top and the back panel can be unscrewed to accomodate cabling. To buy a piece of furniture like this from Great Dane would cost many thousands of dollars. It is a real statement piece and very solidly built, unique. The dimensions are as follows H80cm D54cm W112cm When sold I will make a donation to stereo net. Pictures:

  19. Item: Pair of 2014 Tannoy Prestige Kensington SE loudspeakers. Designed and made in the UK (Relisted. Price reduced). Location: Melbourne. Pick-up only. Price: $8000 (RRP $16999). Item Condition: As brand new with original spikes, stands, and receipt (no packaging). Reason for selling: Upgrading to larger size speakers. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal. Extra Info: I bought them brand new in June 2014 from the distributor in Melbourne with original boxes and packaging. I have compared these Kensington speakers side by side with many other speakers within a price range of 9K to 25K: Focal Utopia 20K+, PSB Synchrony, Acoustic Zen Adagio, as well as a few other famous 15K-20K models I can't recall. Surprisingly, Kensington trumped them ALL by a BIG margin. I used Kensington with the appraised Elson Silva's Southern Star 35W tube amp. Used rarely for music, mainly at low volumes for TV. Kept in stable temperature, in smoke and pet free room. You are welcome to bring your speakers and your amp to test them out and appraise the true magic of the Kensington. The Tannoy Kensington SE features a 10-inch Dual Concentric driver with an AlNiCo magnet system and the Tannoy PepperPost WaveGuide, mounted in a 1100 mm tall, 406 mm wide solidly braced cabinet constructed of lacquered mahogany veneer with solid walnut edging and trim detail. Front panel crossover controls allow the unit to be fine-tuned for musical preferences and listening environment. Tannoy Prestige speakers are designed and built like fine musical instruments, producing startlingly immediate, dynamic, and utterly captivating sound, rich in tone, as close to a live performance as anything in audio. No matter what your musical tastes, whether jazz, reggae, electronic, classical, hard rock, or whatever, the Tannoy Dual Concentric design is a magical antidote to clinical high-end loudspeaker alternatives. The Kensington works magnificently in spaces ranging in size from an average sitting room to substantial halls, and in all interior decors, from traditional to contemporary. It can be powered by low-powered valve amps, including single-ended triodes, or high-powered solid-state monoblocs, with both bi-wiring and bi-amping options. Specifications: Recommended amplifier power: 50 to 225 W Frequency response: 29 Hz to 22 kHz, -6 dB Sensitivity: 93 dB, 2.83 V at 1 m Nominal impedance: 8 Ohms Dimensions: 1100 x 406 x 338 mm Weight: 37 kg each Finish: lacquered mahogany veneer with solid walnut edging and trim detail Reviews: Acclaimed Australian Hi-Fi audio designer & repairer Patrick Turner, put this in his blog (in my opinion, a truly trustworthy reviewer): “The Kensington SE might be too much of a good thing. It’s Technicolor rich, contrastier and flat out more delicious sounding than any box or panel speaker I’ve heard in ages. If I’ve made you curious, here’s my advice: Listen to your favorite music first on other speakers, and then audition the Kensington SE. I’m betting you won’t want to go back...” "What astonished me at once was the sheer transparency of the Kensington rivaling the Quads in the precision of its soundstage and in the depth and effortless layering of the image. I've not before heard anything quite so coherent from a box loudspeaker.... The Kensington is one of a very small number of loudspeakers that I would say have truly graced my listening room in the quarter century that I have been writing about audio equipment. Set up carefully and driven with a top quality power amplifier and front end components, it is capable of coming within a whisker of emulating that 'open window on the event' which, for me at least, is what high fidelity is all about." (Ivor Humphreys) "The Kensington's biggest strength lies in the delicacy and transparency of the mid-band, and this has an enormous influence on voices in particular. On 'Indoor Fireworks', the plaintive, breathy quality of Elvis Costello's voice has never sounded more effective or expressive. Likewise, when I slipped Jim White's wonderfully bizarre Wrong Eyed Jesus CD in to the player, this speaker seemed particularly effective at peeling back veils and revealing both the essence and the lyric of this quite complex and densely layered mix."
