  1. Hi Guys, I hope everyone is safe and following the isolation and stay safe rules during this tough times. Take care. Question about a DAC. listening to my recently acquired Monitor Audio silver 8 with Rotel 971 MKll amplifier. It's better than my klipsch RP series speakers for stereo listening. Today , I just added my old Fiio E17 DAC and headphone amp, vow immediately the sound signature become very impressive. Now the music is very clear and high are smooth. Rotel+DAC+MA silver impressive music , details are transparent and smooth. But the DAC supports only 16bit/48khz and it always show this in the DAC screen, if I play music from tidal master or Spotify or youtube irrespective of the source quality. So all the music is streamed in 16/48khz by Fiio? If the quality is low the DAC upgrade the sound? Please excuse me for the dumb question, This is my first DAC for stereo music. Waiting for chromecast audio to be delivered, and it supports 24bit/96khz. I hope it will further elevate my stereo music experience!!! Now , I am thinking about good DAC better than Fiio or chrome cast audio with out breaking the bank. Any recommendations if it has WIFi it's great. Thanks SBM
  2. Further information: Impeccable Vincent SV-400 Integrated amplifier. Have original box, packing and remote control. Great amp, lots of grunt for the money and super quiet -- and sounds great too. RRP is $999: https://www.selby.com.au/vincent-sv-400-integrated-amplifier-black-sv400b.html Can post at buyer's expense. https://www.vincent-tac.de/en/product-types/integrated-amplifiers/sv-400.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAtA2LbYDdw The weight alone shows that a solid power unit has been integrated, capable of guaranteeing stability. The 6800uF filter capacitors, a ring core transformer and electronic volume control all make a clear statement. The SV-400 is also equipped with a D/A converter in order to playback music formats offered by a PC or music server. A USB socket acts as the input here. 5. Further information: Prefer to Audition (utmost care taken) for a local sale, but I can post at buyer's expense. I think this DAC is well enough known to be a great DAC for the price new and an absolute bargain at this price point. I am willing to consider swapping with just about anything audio related in the price range with financial adjustments either way. This is the non USB version, and does not come with a power supply. 6. Hi, So currently I have nothing setup, but have narrowed down on speakers and am looking for what avr/power amp/dac are required to make work everything I desire. Id like to be able to have a 2ch setup for a main tv/kitchen/living area, with speakers to play: - music currently on a hard drive (internal and external); - tv/movies through streaming apps like Netflix through a Fetch box or a Xbox1 or a Chromecast; - streaming apps/Youtube through casting from an iphone. Sound quality of music is the priority, but I do find it much easier to hear spoken words on tv with separate speakers. I have been looking at Ascension speakers from Adelaide and talked to the guy there last year. The likely model will be around 150 wrms at 8 ohms. I will call him again to discuss, but if I remember correctly from what he recommended last time, an AVR to drive such speakers is expensive relative to the speakers just to offer extra channels that I don't need. Would a suitable alternative be a 2ch power amp plus a second device to hand all the digital inputs? Emotiva BASX A-300 or AMC: 2N100MKII-2 are both 150w 8ohm power amps for about $800, but an AVR that can do 150w at 8 ohms are about $5k - what am I missing here? Ive looked into this several times over the last year and I feel like I am just going round in circles. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
  7. Hi! Any advice to getting the best out of tidal masters ? Laptop to dac to rca to amp? Cheers Bernard

  13. Hi All First post and Im sooooo excited! A bit about me. I used to be really into Hifi up until about 15 years ago but kids, career and life got me side tracked. So I have about 15 years of catching to do. I have been reading this forum and watching heaps of youtube in the last 2 months in order to catch up. Although its been invaluable, experience is often the best teacher. I have a dilemma. I like the convenience of integrated, but would always go for sound quality over all other criteria. Im thinking of upgrading my lower end old NAD power amp and Rotel pre-amp. There is a great looking Auralic Polaris for sale which is a great all in one solution imo. The alternative might be Schiit Vidar, Schiit Freya with Schiit Modi 3 (which I have). The Schiit Modi 3 is pretty good but nothing amazing in my experience compared to whats in my old Rotel pre. Is Schiit over hyped or am I expecting too much for a cheap component? Does anyone have any experience with comparing something like the Auralic Polaris to something like the Schiit pre/power amp? Can a Schiit Vidar/Freya/Modi compete with the Auralic in sound quality? The Auralic would most probably have a much better DAC than the Schiit Modi 3 I guess, but what would it be comparable too? Are amplifier Class A/B (Schiit) vs Class D (Auralic etc) sound signatures relevant? Im looking for smooth highs (not to forward) and plenty slam in the bass. The amplifier is to drive some Martin Logan Motion 35x and / or Monitor Audio Silver 8 Floor stand speaker. I may change to Buchardt s400 / Kef R3 in the future. Source will be streaming TIDAL. So many questions I know but it would be great if some one could guide me. Thanks a lot

Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Replaced with another DAC Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only, Can Post at buyers Expense Extra Info: The DAC was purchased new and is in Excellent Condition selling as I have replaced with another DAC. Also, functions as a relatively good headphone Amp. I cant seem to locate the Remote Control, but I have on good authority (I’ve checked the compatibility on Logitech site) that any of the Logitech Remotes will interface with the unit, although I’ve never really used it myself as I have always used the unit as a Fixed Output Level mode, and used the Integrated AMP to control the volume etc. Specifications: DAC: ESS Sabre32 9018 chip Resolution: 32 bits Maximum Sampling Frequency: 84.672MHz Digital input: 2 x 24-bit/192kHz coaxial, 2 x 24-bit/96kHz Toslink optical, 1 x 24-bit/96kHz USB Digital output: 1 x coaxial, 1 x Toslink optical Output voltage: RCA: 2.25V RMS,XLR: 4.5V RMS Total Harmonic Distortion: RCA: <0.002%, XLR: <0.0008% Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz (± 0.2dB) Dynamic range: RCA: >115dB, XLR: >122dB Crosstalk: RCA: <-120dB, XLR: <-130dB Dimensions (H x W x D) 59 x 250 x252mm Colour Black Standard accessories power cord, user manual Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  17. Item: BENCHMARK DAC3 HGC + SoundAffairs Linear PSU & Mods Location: Bondi Junction, NSW Price: $4350 $3990 Item Condition: Excellent (being conservative, see note below*) Reason for selling: Have gone 'ethernet'... Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: BENCHMARK DAC3 HGC. Black version. James Soh SoundAffairs external AC to DC Linear PSU and mods—Ultima Femto Clock, Ultima Voltage Regulator, etc. Have had the unit since March 2019 (bought new). Including retail for the unit (A$3700), the price of the PSU and mods (A$2200), double-freight and import duties via Singapore (A$600), overall retail price is ~A$6500. Reason for selling is that I am moving in a different direction with my sources & DAC, to networked audio over ethernet. This unit is USB-based. DAC comes with original remote. *Some might say the unit is "as new" given that the little nicks on the PSU were there when it shipped to me! However, since it's been modded I suppose technically the Benchmark unit itself is definitely not "as new". PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL ONLY. Well, if you're interested in this listing you probably have done your research already. 18. I am considering the purchase of a new DAC, my key requirements being: It supports MQA It has a preamplifier built in with Home Theatre (HT) Bypass (supporting balanced XLR inputs from an AV preprocessor) The sound quality should be a substantial upgrade over my Marantz AV8802A AV preprocessor Not essential, but it ideally should have network streaming built in, with the primary objective to stream Tidal I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to find units that tick all the above boxes. Specifically very few DACs have HT Bypass. I’d like to connect the DAC directly to my amplifier to bypass my AV system (but have the AV system connected to the same amplifier via HT Bypass). I could connect the DAC to the Marantz 8802A in pure direct mode but I understand that the Marantz will still do an A to D and D to A conversion for the volume control, which would restrict the performance of the DAC. Correct me if I’m wrong here. So the two candidates I’ve seen so far are: Simaudio Moon 890 Mytek Manhattan II Has anyone had experience with the above DAC/preamps? Any other DACs to consider? Really at the start of my investigations so look forward to hearing any thoughts or recommendations based on the above mentioned intentions. My gear is B&W 804D3, Simaudio Moon 860A, Marantz AV8802A, Rel S/3 SHO subwoofer connected via high level inputs, streaming via Audirvana via UPnP or the Tidal app on iOS. Thanks in advance
  19. Item: Metrum Acoustics Pavane (level 1) Location: Perth Price: $3500 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too many DACs Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Preference will be given to local sale as I prefer buyers to know exactly what they are purchasing and have the opportunity to test. If no interest locally, I will post at cost. I am the original owner. Bought in February 2016 from Addicted to Audio. The DAC is in excellent condition and has been a wonderful mainstay in my setup. One of the RCA outputs will turn with some light pressure but it has been like that from day one and does not affect playback. Local buyers are welcome to inspect & test, just send me a private message. I am tied up most Sundays until 2:00pm but available after that as well as Monday to Friday evenings and Saturdays. Please be patient if sending a message, I do not live at my computer desk. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  21. Item: PS Audio Perfectwave Transport (110V) and Perfectwave Dac Mark 1 (240V) Location: Canberra, ACT Price: $1600 for the two combined, and if required postage and PayPal fees Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: Upgraded last year to the Directstream DAC and player, so these aren't being used and I want to make room for new gear! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased this Perfectwave DAC Mk1 (240V) new in 2011 and have been the sole owner. It's never missed a beat. While used cosmetically its in very good condition, with the removable plastic still in place covering the gloss black top plate, no visible marks on the casework, and the screen is clear and bright. Last year I got a really good combined deal on a new Directstream DAC and Player, so I went down that pathway instead of upgrading this one. Should you wish, PS Audio sell an upgrade kit to convert this sonically to a Directstream DAC for about $4000. I understand that the only differences then between an upgraded model and a brand new Directstream DAC is the IR port, which was also upgraded and becomes a round one not rectangular, and the absence of "Directstream" marking on the front casework. This DAC has the Bridge Mark 1 installed, but I've never used it, instead preferring a direct USB connection to a ROON Nucleus + for streaming. I purchased the Perfectwave Player used in 2012, using Audiogon, from the US, hence its a 110v model that requires a transformer, which is included. I've never had a problem with this arrangement, doesn't make any noise or cause any issue, but it may not suit everyone. When I received the player I soon found it would not read all discs (buyer beware!), and as a consequence I had a new DVD drive installed and its been super reliable ever since. Cosmetically the plastic cover was removed from the gloss black top plate, and there is some smudging of the gloss finish which I can't capture in photos. There are no scratches or marks to the casework. The "blue" colour of the power button is darker on the Transport, which can be seen in the photos. I assume this was just product variation. I've recently plugged this combo back into my system just to verify that everything works as it should. In comparison the newer Directstream Player and DAC are just more musically revealing and engaging, but of course they are also much more expensive. I'm very happy to demo to any locals who may be interested. The Remote control is of course included. I have the original double boxes for transportation. I would prefer local pickup, but not a problem to post. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  23. Item: Chord Location: Qutest Price: $1650 + $50 insured delivery anywhere in mainland Aus. Item Condition: A1 Tip Top, as new! Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: PayPal or other financial fee services paid by buyer. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved. It is with some reluctance that I'm selling my amazing Chord Qutest. Hands down the best DAC I've ever owned and right up that worth the best I've listened to. If you are looking at this ad, then you don't need me to tell you anything about it other than reason for selling. Moving to a DSP room correction based pre/power combo that has its own very high quality DAC built in already. I'd like to keep it, but a $2500 piece of kit with no purpose has very low WAF! Grab yourself a bargain, unit is as new with all original packaging.

  25. Item: Concert Fidelity DAC-040BD (price reduced) Location: Melbourne Price: $3500 Item Condition: Excellent - rate 9/10 as per Audiogon rating. Reason for selling: Upgraded to DCS Vivaldi Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased this DAC (and also matching Pre-amplifer - now sold) directly from Masataka-san (Concert Fidelity) in Japan in 2014. This was built specifically for Australia with 240v transformers (vs european 230v). At the time these were the only CF items purchased directly for Australia (or so Masataka-san told me - there was no local distributor at the time so dealt direct with Masataka-san). This has switching on left panel. This item was returned to Concert Fidelity in 2015 as there was a battery upgrade option (which was provided to me free of cost except shipping). Comes with manual, boxes, gloves etc and PSVane tubes. Hardly used and presents as new. Happy to entertain a deal with matching ZL200 mono blocks also for sale.
