  2. Hi! I have no idea which forum to post this but here goes... I'm looking for an old-school electronics repairer that has worked on 4-track cassette recorders in the past. I'm located in Victoria. Found some guys in W.A. and S.A. but don't particularly want to post it so I'm after someone in Melbourne that can get technical with some 70's/80's analog equipment. Any referrals and recommendations would be much appreciated! Cheers, Harry
  3. Item: Denon DR-M33HX 3 Head Cassette Deck + 90 Tapes Location: Williamstown, Victoria Price: $199 Item Condition: 8/10 Reason for selling: OMG I can't keep it all Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Well if you don't know what this is, then you probably aren't interested. For the rest of us this cassette deck came from the era when Denon were creating some of the best decks available if you didnt want to pay the Nakamichi tax. And this one is a good one! SF 3 head Closed Loop Dual Capstan Dolby B, C, HX Pro Bias Fine Adjust I'm listening to it right now... OMG I might change my mind. Its just such a beautiful machine, and the sound is ANALOG, but in the best possible way. So smooth... someone buy it nd put me out of my misery!!! Working perfectly, speed is perfect, heads, rollers etc are in perfect condition. I don't remember using it that much when I got it so its been lightly used. Some slight scratches on the top, but facia is perfect, all buttons are still attached (you'll find decks where buttons etc have fallen off), everything works. Such a beautifully engineered deck, with sound and looks to match. I'm getting nostalgic... I'll stop now Perfect match for the Denon tuner and Rotel amp in my other listings. If you take all 3 I'll throw in the tuner for free. But wait, THERE'S MORE!!! If you buy this deck you'll get over 90 cassette tapes of music that I lovingly and meticulously recorded from the 80's and 90's, some recorded using this deck, many from other decks I owned. OMD, Bryan Ferry, Depeche Mode (on a TDK MA-XG - they were the ferrari of cassette tapes... I might keep that one because it's a thing of beauty!), Duran Duran, The Smiths, Seal, Smashing Pumpkins, some Jazz, some blues etc. Mostly on TDK-SA and TDK-SAX cassettes. Some TDK-MA. Theres some pre-recorded cassettes in there too... hang on a second while I fast forward and turn the tape over......... Additional info: https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/denon/dr-m33hx.shtml I've downloaded Pictures: hfe_denon_dr-m33hx_m44hx_en.pdf hfe_denon_dr-m33hx_m44hx_service.pdf
  4. Item: Yamaha KX-690 Cassette Deck (Dolby S, 3 Heads HX Pro etc) PLUS 49 (used) TDK Blank Cassettes (Chrome SA, SAX and some Metal MA) Location: Sydney (southern suburbs) Price: SOLD Item Condition: Tape deck is excellent. I am the original owner. Everything works. In the interests of disclosure the unit will need some servicing in near future as you need to fast forward and rewind a tape before the first listening session of the day, otherwise the playback stops after a few seconds. Cassettes have all rock/pop recordings made 10+ years ago (only quality music here - no rap crap) from CD (in fact the CDX-880 also advertised here) and encoded with Dolby S. All cassette labels written in pencil and erase tabs left intact, so easily erased and formatted however you want. Cassettes were never left in hot cars, and have always been stored in a dark place, so are in very good condition. Reason for selling: No longer required. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash. I prefer not to post. On prior arrangement can bring to Sydney CBD for pickup during business hours. Extra Info: Comes with original box and foam packing, and instruction manual and box. Remote control was an option that I never purchased, so no remote. Bonus period Yamaha cassette range brochure! Pictures:
  5. Item: TEAC V-270C Stereo Cassette Deck Location: Adelaide Price: Free! Item Condition: Good working order Reason for selling: No longer needed Payment Method: First come, first served Extra Info: I bought this a few years ago so I could digitise my cassette tapes. Now that it's done, I'll probably never use it again. It's in good working and cosmetic order (although I haven't tried to use it in a year or so). Hoping it can find a new home. No cost but no shipping.

  8. Hey folks, Been a while since I've jumped on the SNA forums - good to see, lively as ever I just acquired a Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck from an eBay seller in NSW, despite the listing claiming "all ok!" it seems to be way off with speed. This unit has variable pitch control (luckily) and I've found that at 12 o clock, it's too slow. I've tried to match it with several albums I own retail copies on cassette and LP... found the sweet spot is around 3 o clock on the pitch control. Gave it a whirl recording at 3 o clock, but when playing back it sounded too fast. I'm thinking that the pitch control is ignored for recording purposes (rightly so, but would be great if someone can confirm this) Anything recorded on this deck sounds perfect with the pitch controller at 12 o clock, and although I have to correct for anything not recorded on this unit - I have noticed that the speed is very consistent, so I'm doubting this to be a mechanical issue, likely that this just needs calibration (how it got this far out, I couldn't say) Obviously my next step will be to actually contact the seller. Whether they want to service it themselves or give a partial refund, I dunno... We'll see how that pans out... For now though I'm thinking that I can probably find a cassette with test tones i.e. 1khz, 2khz, 3khz and use some software to count the frequency as I poke around inside - until the frequencies match what is expected. Just figured it'd be wise to run this by the good folk at SNA before I create a bigger problem (also, anyone familiar with this unit - your input is especially appreciated!)

  10. Marantz SD5010 cassette deck This is one of the coolest cassette decks they made, it has a retracting tray like a CD player! In the past I have owned both types of tape players Cassette and Reek2Reel and still do to this day Just putting out the question what player have you found to be better and why The real reason for this thread is to find the best of the best Brands/Models of both types of players that you have owned, heard or have had experience with I am in search for an excellent cassette player to add into the system and I want to weed out the gems and make a short list I currently have a Sony TC 765 Reel2Reel and a baby Nakamichi 480 , 2 head Cassette deck
