  1. Hi,I recently discovered that the stylus on my Rega Exact cartridge is bent. So rather than replace the cartridge with another Rega Exact (even though I receive a 20% discount off the price of a new cartridge), I have decided to upgrade my cartridge and would appreciate any suggestions. There are not a large number of hi-fi stores in my area, so demos are out of the question.I am running a Rega RP6 with an RB303 tonearm (stock standard with the RP6), Rega Elicit R amp and Monitor Audio Silver speakers. With the Elicit R, I am limited to MM cartridges; however, I believe that I can run a high output MC cartridge through the MM input. My music tastes are varied, with vinyls ranging from Otis Redding, to Simon and Garfunkel, Cold Chisel, Fireigber, Van Morrison, Eagles, Bee Gees, Steve Nicks, Fleetwood Mac etc.Cartridges I have been considering are:- Ortofon 2M Black (although some people state these are overrated)- Nagaoka MP-500 (apparently selling for more than they are worth)- Goldring 2500- Dynavector 20X2H (high level output MC, which I believe will work on the MM input of the amp)- Grado Refefence Platinum 2I am not tied to any of the above cartridges, so any feedback or recommendations are most welcome. If you could also include your reasoning for certain recommendations that would be appreciated. Thanks,Gareth
  2. Item: ORTOFON Cadenza Blue Cartridge Location: Richmond, Melbourne Price: sold (New, delivered a week ago) RRP $2499. Not sure what pricing rules dominate with unused but opened cartridges . I have the receipt from local Melbourne retailer Item Condition: New (Note: outer box opened, but stylus not removed from inner container) Reason for selling: The Tonearm on my current Acoustic solid turntable was in the shop to fix one wire, so the Cadenza was not fitted. Whilst waiting for my tonearm, in a stereonet fit of madness I went and bought the Michell Orbe SE with tonearm and Goldnote Donatello, and love the configured combo so much I have decided to sell the acoustic solid and the Cadenza cartridge intended for it. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Post Extra Info: The Cadenza Blue model is using a Nude FG 70 stylus with a very thin ruby cantilever. The improved winding process on the armature ensures better channel balance. The soundstage of Cadenza Blue is wide open and grandiose straight out of the box. Micro dynamic and ambience will be evident when listening to complex compositions. It reaches a very high degree of definition in the perspective, which is very present. It is true to the music with a tremendous clarity. Note: first 2 images are of the actual item, whilst the cartridge shot is a stock image Pictures:
  3. Item: Ortofon Bronze Location: Brookvale Price: 180 Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Selling an Ortofon Bronze cartridge, I have it for a while but moved to a Black. Ortofon documentation says it should last 2000 hours, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of life on it as I don't run a record shop :). It sings very nice, have all the original packaging so can post anywhere and don't think will add much to the price as it's very light. My phone can't take good pics so don't think it will be good to post pics of it but did a video of it playing Boz Scaggs Lowdown so you can hear it, happy to take some pics if someone wants it. video https://vimeo.com/303243134 Pictures:
  4. I have recently acquired a Denon DL110 high output MC cartridge (after decades with Shure V15-IIIs and a -VMxR in SME3009s). I have two tone arms I can mount it in, a Rega RB 250 and an Ortofon AS212-II. It's currently in the Rega and sounds very nice indeed. Which of the two arms would be the better choice for the DL110? Advice appreciated.
  5. Hey all, Hoping you guru's can advise me here. I have a JVC QL-F4 which I love dearly, it currently runs a AT95e cartridge. Its nice enough but its due for a new stylus. I also have a number of older carts including the Z1s which is probably the original for this deck. (all these carts came with the table when I purchased) By all reports the Z1s is a nice cart so I would like to get a stylus and test it out. I'm looking at the Jico SAS item. So my questions; 1) Am I crazy and should I stick with at AT unit instead? 2) Is this the right stylus - http://www.jico-stylus.com/product_info.php?products_id=1293 Confusingly its listed under "Victor Nivico", who presumably manufactured it? 3) I also have a Shure M75ED II, a Shure M75-6S and a Jelco MC-14. Are any of these half decent? The rest of my setup consists of a Cyrus 2 (+PSX which should arrive this week thanks to a forum member!) and a pair of Richter Paladin's. Many thanks, Ash

  8. Item: Ikeda 9tt Cartridge Location: Melb Price: $1800 Shipped in OZ Item Condition: Used approx 500-800hrs Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: The hrs used on the cart is a estimate for I do not keep a counter. I have 2 turntables and 4 carts in rotation plus a cd player. The Ikeda is 3.5 years old. Used only on a Thales Simplity Tonearm. All records cleaned with KLaudio Ultrasonic RCM (RCM is a great way to maximise life of a cart.) The specs on the Ikeda is a bit misleading. It states .15mv but it seems to have more output than .2mv carts I have. I am currently using it on either 20x or 26x on my Allnic step and transformer. In fact i had a Tron Phonostage that only had 10x step us and it was fine as well. But i would suggest a step up with at least 20x gain. Pictures:

They have hardly been used as I soon upgraded to Ortofon 2M Red and Black on the TT's they came with. I haven't played them since, but I am pretty sure they will sound as good. Along with that I am giving away an unused Ortofon Stylus brush (see pictures). I can post them safely in the Ortofon 2M box or local pickup is fine by me as well.

RRP $8500 USD Item Condition: Excellent about 3-400 hours Reason for selling: Not used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank TT A fabulous cartridge in excellent condition! One of the best. Air Tight Wins The Absolute Sound's Golden Ear Award for 2007! The Air Tight PC-1 MC Cartridge Sets New Standards for LP Playback! Combining incredible dynamics, amazing detail retrieval and a sense of true musicality, the Air Tight PC-1 Moving Coil Phono Cartridge is one of the world’s finest designs. A “work-in-progress” for over 30 years, the new Air Tight PC-1 has set a new standard for the reproduction of analog recordings. The PC-1 is capable of stunning dynamic range with extremely high resolution; achieving exquisite detail reproduction while preserving the natural warmth and musicality that all analog lovers crave. The perception of the original recorded event is virtually unparalleled. A “High Output/Low Impedance” design, the PC-1 is an exemplary design that uses a proprietary magnet material in the generator, allowing a remarkable reduction in coil windings (reducing the “loss” of fine detail) yet still producing a very useable 0.6mV output. After 30 years, the dream has been realized! “The Air Tight PC-1, TAS’ 2006 Phono Cartridge of the year award-winner, is the best yet in nearly every aspect of phonograph reproduction-the most complete. As I said in Issue 170, the PC-1 isn’t simply a slight improvement over what came before it; it is a leap forward in moving-coil design. Well worth its asking price!” - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound, Golden Ear Ward Winner, August 2007 Output Voltage: 0.6 mV at 1kHz 5cm/sec. 14. G’day all, I am still a newbie in the analog world and I need an advice on cartridge tonearm match. Am I damaging my LPs by using my current cartridge/tonearm combination? Do you recommend me to change the cartridge for the one that is a better match? I have E.A.T C-Sharp turntable with Ortofon super OM 10 cartridge with OM 40 stylus and Pro-Ject phono RS. To be precise it is not OM 40 stylus, but LP Gear Stylus 40 Shibata for Ortofon OM40 Super cartridge ( https://www.lpgear.com/product/ORTSOM40SLPS.html ). Original OM 40 has compliance of 25cu and E.A.T. C-Sharp tonearm has effective mass of 16.5g. That equates to 6.8Hz resonance frequency. LPGear can’t provide me with the details about compliance of its stylus accept that ‘The stylus is designed to be used in similar manner as the original but stylus manufacturers as a practice will not provide detailed specs. The stylus is not exactly the same as the original.’ I expect that compliance weight and VTF should be the same; however, the needle itself is different, bonded shibata oppose to FG on original OM 40. I used to have Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC with this stylus and cartridge. It was pretty much perfect match with resonance frequency of 9.6Hz. That was my first turntable and I never experienced mistracking. I don’t even know how it sounds. Long story short I have now E.A.T. C-Sharp turntable with the same cartridge until I save for a good one. The resonance frequency for this tonearm and cartridge combination is 6.8Hz. According to Ortofon website it is considered as possible and probably can be used without problems. ( https://www.ortofon.com/support/support-hifi/resonance-frequency ). I understand that I possibly don’t get the best sound quality out of the cartridge and from the turntable, but this is less important from the possibility of damaging the records by mistracking. As I said before I don’t know what mistracking sounds like. I can’t hear anything unusual on EAT TT. I tried one of my warped records and it didn’t skip or anything like that. I set the recommended VTA of 1.5g. I have also tried 1.25 and 1.75 and nothing out of ordinary happened on that warped record. The only difference between the settings on EAT and my old project Debut is input capacitance. I used to run 200 and now I have set it on 300. I couldn’t hear any difference between settings of 200-420 on my Pro-Ject (maybe due to a good cartridge/arm match). On EAT TT, 200 is fatiguing on my ears (I can’t listening like that), 420 seems to lack top end, but 300 is spot on. Is it because the resonance frequency is not in the optimal range and changing input capacitance tames the cartridge a bit or exaggerates the input capacitance settings? Taking only into account the possible record damaging cartridge/arm combination do you recommend me to change the cartridge for the one that is a better match? If you think that cartridge replacement is necessary than what would you recommend? I consider Ortofon Quintet Red or Denon DL-103 as a temporary solution before I save enough for a better cartridge. Thanks Kris

  17. I found a TT on the side of the road and was given another. I replaced the belt in one and stylus in the other. But now I need a cartridge for one, wanted to stay with MM and only wanted to spend no more than $300 to $500. Tivoli had Garrotts and the K series had been getting some good reports. A friend has a K3 and liked it. In the end I got a K2. The difference between 1, 2 and 3 is the stylus. I paid less than $300 for the K2 at the time. I had read where Garrotts play the music and hide the noise. This is true. Not only that the cart. appears to make all music sound good. The TT it is currently in is a new AT direct drive. With removable head shells and half a dozen new and refurbished old carts. cartridge rolling is fun, fun fun. Of all the carts the K2 is one I just keep going back to. My main rig is a Rega planar3, RB300 arm and Ortofon Rondo Blue MC. But the AT and K2 are fun and good sounding.

  23. Gday all. I have recently purchased an ADC xlm mkii improved to try out on my vintage system. Part of an exploration into the world of analogue sounds that I'm pretty new in and already pretty hooked and having a lot of fun! I don't have a good scope but NOS stylus looks sharp on the kids microscope (!) Initial thoughts are good, but not great. Audio is quite resolved and honest, though very forward in the mids. Tracking at 1.2g. It is just not grabbing me 100% and given what I have read about this cartridge I probably expected more.... I suspect I may be having an issue with compliance on my system given the compliance of the ADC is 30 and I am using a mid-mass Marantz s-arm on my Marantz TT6350. I'd love to hear this cartridge in all its glory but realise this may mean I need to invest in a second TT with lighter arm. I have tried it on a Rega 3 with rb251 arm and had slightly better results but still nothing special compared to my Marantz with Pickering XSP 4004 and Vividline stylus - a very musical combo. Considering getting either this : https://lptunes.com/products/replacement-for-adc-rzl-stylus or https://www.turntableneedles.com/ADC-RSZ-Stylus-for-ADC-ZLM-Cartridge--our-Needle-108-DEQ_p_845.html or http://www.musonic.co.uk/adc-xlm-mkii-improved-original-elliptical-stylus-p-18221.html but, not sure I'm, wasting my time without a lighter arm....I've read great results with an Infinity Black Widow or even a Grace 707 on this cart. Any recommendations?? Thanks. System: TT Marantz 6350; Phono Marantz Integrated amp 1090; Celestion Ditton Studio 66's.
  24. Hi members, Purchased this some time back ($15.00 off EBAY) and was wondering what is the ADC version/type have I ended up with? There is no distinguishable features other than the colour and mounting, the existing fitted stylus must be an aftermarket version as there to are no distinguishable features shown on it too! Was looking at mounting it on on the Audio Technica AT 1100 tonearm mounted on mt custom built AR77XB. Any ideas on a suitable stylus to replace the existing ADC? Currently I have a Jico SAS stylus on the Shure V15 Type IV which sounds wonderful! Thanks
