  1. Item: Quad 909 Amp and matching Quad 99 PreAmp Location: Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand Price: I'm open to reasonable offers around NZ$2.5k for both units. Item Condition: Excellent Condition including, original boxes, cables, manuals, and remote for the Pre. Reason for selling: Audioenz member from a long way back, when I had the time and space to really enjoy my Hifi. However, I'm regrettably needing to downsize and also now don't have the time I once did to enjoy good listening sessions. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Transfer. Can be shipped, but given the total weight and size, it would need to be at buyers expense. Extra Info: Included is the Quad-link cables, 2 power leads, remote, manuals (see photos) Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  2. So, here we are again with the third thread (representing the third listening room) since this obsession began back in mid 2010 (or possibly early 2011, I'd need a good psychologist to be sure). Pics of the new listening room will arrive in good time, a new camera is on the way, as will pics of the first amp to grace the new room, until then I'm afraid I'll just have to copy and paste from the good old internet. This is Darren69's Peachtree Nova, the older model with the mosfet modules (prior to the class D modules and the power increase). It is listed in the manual as 80wpc into 6 Ohms so, in my mind, it is probably about 60wpc into 8 Ohms. It also has the option of a tube preamp stage (that can be switched on and off via the remote) and a built in 24/96 DAC so it scores very well in the value for money stakes. As I've been discovering over the last few weeks it is a very easy amp to like, that built in DAC has been in use for all my tv and movie viewing and has done a sterling job. It must be well integrated with the preamp stage because I have been unable to pick the difference between it and the Halcro's built in DAC, so just because it's rated at a 'crappy' 24/96 doesn't mean that it doesn't sound good. I'm also a fan of the Nova's look, that wood veneer looks very cool and the fact that it's curved somehow makes it work even better. IMO the veneer on the new PS Audio Sprout looks very "80's station wagon fake" by comparison. For those keeping track this is Integrated amp number #62 (at least, I'm pretty sure it is, I actually thought I was up to #63 at one stage... oh well, somewhere in the low 60's, so let's just call it #62 and leave it at that). The Peachtree was fed from a Halcro EC800 cd player via Aurealis R1 interconnects to the Nova and then through Redgum Expressive Line speaker cable to my Lenehan/ETI S2R speakers. And now that the hardware stuff is out of the way let's get down to the important stuff. Highs: Open, airy and spacious and sort of 'happy', xylophone and triangle sound a little bit sweet and a little bit luscious without going far enough to be called rich. I love the top end of the Nova, no glare, no hardness, never harsh or grainy. I've given it a 7.5. Mids: Well separated, natural and pleasingly rhythmic, light acoustic music is beautifully rendered as is jazz and opera (even though I don't usually go there). The mids and highs are given center stage and the bass is generally kept under tight control and used to back hem up and reinforce them. Vocals are also very good, but I'm getting ahead of myself there. 7.5 Bass: Well controlled and forced into second place behind the mids and highs, excellent control and presence but not enough for a bass head. It doesn't go as deep as it could but I believe this is deliberate as if it did then it would likely interfere with the treble. So, I'm giving it an 8.0 for quality and a 6.5 for amount and depth, so that averages at 7.25. It could use a little more impact as well but again that would cause issues for the top end. Vocals: Natural and just a little breathy and rich and just a bit sweetly relaxed, an 8.0 for both male and female vocals. An excellent vocal performance, very enjoyable. Soundstaging is hard to judge, it took me several months to get used to the new room the last time so I imagine it will take quite a while this time as well. It did seem to be pretty capable, it does the job and doesn't do anything wrong so I'll give it the benefit of any doubt with a 7.0 Overall performance Integration: The treble is where it's at with the Peachtree Nova, the bass is good too but the treble really shines. The only thing it is lacking is a little impact and dynamicism but I suspect that is deliberate, you wouldn't want those to get in the way of the vocals or the rest of the mid range. An excellent amp for slower styles and still a good one for rock. A very easy amp to live with. Ability to Emote: With slower styles, folkish rock and ballads it scores 7.5 but it drops to a flat 7.0 on harder tracks so I'll average that to a 7.25. Electric Guitar Test: As with many amps that are very well controlled it could not score above a 7.0, it just isn't edgy or rebellious enough. 80's Rock Test: Again good, 7.0 but not great, as with the electric guitar test it does well enough but it just doesn't have the right personality to fit well with 80's rock. And a few random observations: The top end has a few characteristics that remind me of the Burson PI-160, it doesn't sound the same but it does have similar strengths with those nice airy highs. The mid range has maybe half of the rhythmic energy of the NAKSA 80, it sounds nice but it isn't nearly as addictive as the NAKSA was. The Nova was never forward in its presentation and not generally recessed either, it was slightly withdrawn on occasion. Considering the Nova sounds this good and has the added extras of an inbuilt DAC and a remote control I'd have to call it excellent value for money. And I'll add a few of my own pics in midweek. Edit: Pics added.

  4. Item: Primare i22 integrated amplifier with optional DAC Location: Melbourne Price: $700 Item Condition: Good see pics Reason for selling: Upgraded to an active system. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Bought this off another member a bit over a year ago, used lightly since then. Have driven my Dynaudio speaker’s beautifully. This 80W Primare punches out loud bass effortlessly and for a class D amp it is surprisingly smooth, detailed and quiet. Have loved having it but it is no longer needed as I’ve moved to an active system. It has a very decent on-board DAC that can also to be bypassed. Comes with original remote. The previous owner had a couple of scratches on the top rear panel, the photos makes it worse as it's hard to notice normally. I've priced this unit quite low with this in mind. Local pickup preferred but I can also ship on your expense. 8. Item: Luxman L-509U Integrated Amplifier Location: Melbourne Price: 5800 Item Condition: as new Reason for selling: need money Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I am one only owner. Bought new for over $8000 in 2012 The amp has never been repaired, works very well. No issues, can give a week warranty. The unit has never been loud more then 9am because I live in a flat and I like my neighbors. Winner of SoundStage's Reviewer's Choice Award (February 2009) "The L-509u was one dead-quiet integrated amp with an ultra-low noise floor, resulting in the blackest of backgrounds from which the music would emerge in solid, focused, three-dimensional images. Additionally, the L-509u was tonally neutral, and did not favor one end of the frequency spectrum over another; instead its sonic signature was geared toward delivering the least-colored, most musically natural performance, regardless of the type of music." "What impressed me most, however, was the L-509u’s control of the bass." "Subterranean? Without a doubt." Click here to be redirected to the SoundStage review. The L-509u features the new high quality electronic selector switch, which is the heart of the C-1000f pre-amp (one of Luxman’s 80th anniversary commemoration models). The sound quality deterioration using the new electronic input switch is now minimal, while channel separation and crosstalk efficiency were raised substantially in comparison with the previous L-550A / L-590A / L-507 /L-509SE. In addition the illuminated position indicator around the input selector knob, makes it much easier to view the selected position even from afar. The integrated amplifier also benefits from the ALPS volume control used in the CL-88 vacuum tube preamplifier. A massive solid-brass, four gang potentiometer. The amplifier section has not been ignored either; noise and distortion has been kept to a minimum with the introduction of ODNF version 2.2. The deep, rich, wonderfully textured tone is available here in Luxman’s most powerful integrated amplifier. No compromises made for sound quality; designed for the musical purist. This is Luxman’s ultimate integrated amplifier. * Equipped with ODNF version 2.2 for minimal noise and distortion. * Solid brass, four gang attenuator from the CL-88 tube preamp. * Electronic input selector, trickle down technology from the flagship C-1000f. * Relay power source with large storage capacity. * One pair of RCA inputs with Luxman's eddy current defeating technology, * Peel Coat PCB with gold plated traces. * Power Output Display Meter in dB * Switch to split the preamp from the power amp. * High quality phono stage. * Two pairs of balanced inputs. * Custom parts designed by LUXMAN, even the paint used on the resistors to denote the value has been carefully chosen after many hours of comparitive listening. The volume control on the L-509u is a solid brass, four gang ALPs potentiometer, its too heavy to be motorised, hence the lack of a remote control, it does however provide a linear attentuation & gain throughout the range, holding both channels perfectly in balance even at low amplitude. The tone controls might seem like an anachronism in this day and age of minimalism, but they can be remarkably effective in bring to life a less than perfect music collection. We all have music gems in our collection that are sonicly challenging. A lot of the 1980's CDs are quite harsh sounding and the digital glare can be quite fatiguing. Reduce the treble slightly and while the harsh CD is not going to suddenly sound like a reference recording, at least it will now be perfectly listenable. Sit back relax, enjoy the music & forgot about the HiFi. When you want to bypass the tone controls, just engage the Line Straight switch. Printed Circuit Boards normally have a green coat (dye) that can be printed upon, so the manufacturer knows where to place the copper traces and where to insert the resistors & capacitors. LUXMAN's designers don't like the sound of the green dye, so instead they print onto a plastic peel coat and remove it once the traces and mounting holes are in place. Then the copper traces are gold plated to reduce resistance across the circuit. In the photo below you will notice that Peel Coat circuit boards are an off-white color. It’s this fanatical attention to detail that delivers such superior sound quality. The on board phono stage is not an after thought on any of the Luxman integrated amplifiers, rather a well executed pre-preamplifer. The MC input has 55dB of gain (thats a multiplication of 550x) and is suitable for medium to high output MC cartridges, approx .7mV. While the MM input has 35dB of gain. Extensive listening was applied to the high purity, oxygen free copper (OFC) cables which are used to transmit the signal throughout the amplifier. These cables have a minimal audible signature and minimal electrical effect on the audio waveform. Linear wide bandwidth frequency response is achieved by the low measured values of both inductance and capacitance. The result, the cables do not color the sound, but pass it through, quickly. There is a high quality headphone amplifier, accessible from the front panel. The headphone output is taken from the speaker output,, assuring you of the highest fidelity. LUXMAN did not cut corners in the L-509u; notice lots of custom solid copper parts including screws & fasteners & mounting plates. Not to mention the gold plated peel coat circuit boards. This is one channel complete with heat sink. Here is a clever device found on the back of every Luxman powered product. You press the button and it will check the phase of the electricity it is receiving. If the AC outlet in the wall is incorrectly wired, meaning the live and neutral are swapped, a red LED will turn on to warn you. You only need to press it once, when you are installing a product to check that everything is in order. Its a simple mistake, that occurs often, and one that can seriously undermine your listening enjoyment. Continuous effective output: 120W + 120W -8ohm 240W + 240W 4 ohm reproduction frequency: PHONO: 20Hz ~ 20,000Hz 0.5dB) LINE: 20Hz ~ 100kHz (+ 0, -3.0dB) SN ratio: PHONO (MM): 91dB or more PHONO (MC): 75dB or more LINE: 107dB or more Dimension: W 467 x H 179 x D 435 mm Weight: 28 kg Preferably Pickup Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  10. Item: Pro-Ject Stream Box RS + Amp Box RS (both with high spec linear power supplies and tube upgrades) Location: Sydney Price: $2400 (pick up) / $2450 (shipped) Item Condition: Excellent !!! (no marks or scuffs) Reason for selling: $ (hence the sharp price) Payment Method: Direct transfer, PayPal (friends), Pickup - Cash (Alexandria or Caringbah) Extra Info: Used very lightly. Ace condition. Not a mark on them. Smoke free, pet free. All those good things. This combo is great for the minimalists out there or as Darko would say Kallax fi. For those of you who have a high end set up already this pair would make a great second system. I have tested the amp with Focal floor standers and it handled the test with ease. The free app from Pro-ject works really well. Tidal and Spotify integration. Both Streamer and Amp have original boxes for shipping. Whats included: - Pro-ject Stream Box Rs (inc remote but I only used the iPhone app) - Pro-ject Amp Box RS - Linear Power supplies for both components inc IEC's - DC link cables to linear PSU's - Genelex Gold Lions x 2(Cryoset) - Reflektor 6H23P x 2 (Tube Store) - Electro Harmonix x 4 Streamer pre amp uses the renowned Burr Brown DAC and a tube output stage (6992's). Was purchased new from Apollo Hi-Fi in Sydney. Has analog input to feed a turntable (via phono stage) or CD player straight in. Streaming from your computer does not sound like this! Tidal and spotify integration using the free Pro-ject app on iphone or iPad is good. Streamer includes switch mode psu and custom linear psu from Swagman with Nuvotem transformer. Certainly makes a difference! Cost around $300 from memory. The Amp linear power supply is crazy good build quality. Great components and provides a lot of extra output from the amp. Bass control is sublime with this amp PSU combo. The tubes add a lovely rounded finish to to the sound. The Amp power supply is worth $650 alone (I know, but it provides a lot of extra output for amp) I've taken the lid off both units to show how clean and well kept the units are. Taken loads of photos for you: Edited July 13 by stoobleh

  23. Item: Yamaha A U-671 Location: Beautiful Brissy Price: $350 inc postage Item Condition: like new Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I’ve had this amp for about 1 year. Hardly used it. So it’s like new Features: Natural PWM-type digital power amp that reproduces high-resolution sound sources with remarkable purity In order to vividly portray absolutely everything in various high-resolution sources—from the most delicate performance nuances to the highest energy-filled dynamic musical passages—Yamaha has built into this amplifier a digital power amp that outputs a maximum 70 watts/channel and features powerful drivability. Natural PWM type digital modulation with an extremely simple circuit configuration provides both natural, uncoloured sound quality as well as high efficiency. And the low-pass filter of the latter part of the power amp, which significantly influences the sound quality, is a large coil made of low-loss, low-distortion OFC (oxygen-free copper) wire material. This simultaneously maintains the purity of high-resolution sound sources, while enhancing the power of the bass and ensuring warmth in the mid- and high-frequency sounds—all to deliver the best quality sound reproduction, rich in musicality. The component also features a Pure Direct Switch, which bypasses the tone/balance controls and back buffer amp to improve the purity of sound. DSD 5.6MHz native and PCM 384kHz compatible high grade USB DAC function Built into the unit is an exceptionally high-grade USB DAC which can reproduce high-resolution sound sources with all their original quality. It is compatible with native playback of the DSD 5.6MHz (DSD128) format or 384kHz/32-bit playback which records music information with extraordinary detail by sampling up to a massive 5,644,800 times per second. The D/A converter is the 32-bit/2-channel specification, high-performance SABRE 32 (ES9010K2M) from the U.S. company, ESS Technology, and its USB device controller IC is the latest product from XMOS, the semiconductor firm. By restricting shutter noise through asynchronous transference, this delivers pure reproduction and optimum sonic quality. Fully enjoy the quality of high-resolution sound sources with your favourite head phones Another major benefit of the USB DAC function allows it to also be used as a high quality head phone amp for computer audio. Its internal high performance D/A converter draws out all of the quality of high-resolution sound sources to give you the purest, most intimate enjoyment of high-quality sound. Pictures:

  25. I have a pair of Trevor Lee Floorstanders, large sentimental value. Weight 30kg, Height: 112cm, Depth: 39cm, Width: 22cm Previously run through a Sherwood Amp / Pre-amp (gold coloured..) then an Onkyo Tx-nr801 which i have in storage. I'm currently running them as a 2 channel system through a Yamaha rx-v479 as that matched my budget at the time. Now in a position to do them some justice with a decent Amp. Probably remain a 2 channel system in a smallish room. Seeking any feedback on: - How I can find out what's inside. Believe they were custom made and my memory is of them going seriously loud when powered by the Sherwood. - Melbourne based audio shops that I can visit to inspect the speakers, source recommendations on amp etc - Are there any creative ways to use the NR801 in 2018? ie as a pre-amp to the 479 or similar as the 801 has no hdmi. cant see any audio outs from the 479 Would love to get them cranking up again.
