  1. Hi everyone!, Figured I would start posting about the progress I'm making with my dedicated home theatre and new home. I have found the information in these forums invaluable and figured I should contribute my own story. THE ROOM. The planning and design for the new house has been going on for the last few years but it is finally approaching completion and I'm getting very exciting, the build is based on my own floor plan with a dedicated home theatre and server/equipment room being the highlight for me. It is a modest sized home theatre with maybe enough room for two rows of seating but I am thinking that this may be a bit cramped, so initially it will have 1 row of seating and maybe lots of bean bags. I also think the custom alcove bulkhead and projector recess is turning out quite nicely. When it is finally done I hope to have it looking something like this: THE SPEAKERS. I have decided to go with Ascension speakers due to positive reviews and the value for money that they represent. I figured the only way I could do better is to build them myself. I did audition quite a few speakers and in the end it was a choice between Krix, Vaf and Adelaide Speakers. There is no doubt that Krix and Vaf especially offered a more stylish product but in the end I could not justify spending the extra money. the Ascension speakers sounded just as good at a considerably lower price (I was not able to audition the exact model I ordered, this seems to be the norm for Adelaide Speakers unfortunately). I should also point out that I am very much the n00b when it comes to audio, considering my current setup is a pair of $50 second-hand DSE floorstanders I may not be the best person to judge these things. THE RECEIVER and PROJECTOR. After a lot of research I decided to go with an AVR over separates, I initially had my heart set on an Emotiva processor and 7ch amp but in the end I went with a Denon AVR-X4000, as it has plenty of power, Audyssey MultEQ XT32, multi zone and pre-outs if I do decide to get an amp later on. I have also opted to go with the BenQ W1070 but have not ordered this yet as I will not be able to use it in the mean time, this may change when it comes time to purchase. THE BUILD SO FAR. I did the home theatre wiring myself, was very daunting at first but when I actually got started it was quite satisfying. I made quite a mess but it will be out of sight so all good. As part of the contract with the builder I specified that R2.0 insulation be installed in the home theatre instead of the standard R1.5, when the insulation was installed I checked it and it appeared to be the same as the other internal walls in the house. After being brushed off initially as being unable to tell the difference by the site supervisor, I managed to take some photos with measurements and they changed their story to there being a quality issue with the batts used, they then replaced the batts with R2.5HD, so in the end it worked out for the best but certainly served as a reminder to keep an eye on these things. PROGRESS PHOTOS. Here are some photos of the progress so far, have a look let me know what you think. I will be posting updated from time to time depending on the progress, let me know if you have any questions or would like to offer/receive advice Cheers, Paul.
  2. Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and quality sound systems. I read may of the forum topics and found it has valuable information than more review sites :-). Currently I'm in process of building my Home Theater system 80% on movies and 20 % on music. I'm planning to buy Denon AVR-X4000 receiver and paradigm Studio 60 pair as starting point. Please let me hear what you think about this combination and any other suggestions.
