  1. Extra Info: Hoping for optioned Lundahl transformers and upgraded caps at the time of build.
  2. Further information: This is a beautiful pair of 2A3 tube mono blocks which produce a lush and very right sound. I purchased these used to drive a pair of horn speakers that didn't eventuate so can't really use them. I have connected them and they sound superb but really aren't up to driving very inefficient line array speakers to good levels. I will pack carefully and am happy to ship at buyers cost. http://www.hifi168.com/bbs/showtopic-169339.aspx an interesting read. 3. Pair of TAMURA F-7002 permalloy core 3.5k 300B output transformers made by Tamura Seisakusho Ltd. Primary: 3.5k ohm Secondary: 4, 8, 16 ohm Max Allowable DC Current: 100mA
  4. These things were made by Luxman just after the Alpine takeover, but I will wager that they were planned beforehand by Mr Miura. There's naff-all info about them on the web, but such as there is suggests that 250 pairs of monoblocks were made in 1984-85, retailing in Japan only at the then astronomical price of 1.1 million yen the pair, employing WE 300B tubes "specially selected for Lux Corporation". Everything about the way they are put together indicates unhurried quality. 30 years later they look like this on the outside, i.e. a bit dusty: Inside, they are like this: - apart from fragments of broken 300B, clean as a whistle. Luxman eccentricity being what it is, removal of the output tubes means removal of the wire cage. To do that, it's necessary to go in from below, where two screws (at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock to the tube base upper left) tie the whole cage assembly to the top plate. To my eye they look better without them. And even without the right tubes, they do sound good ...

  6. * Item full name and model etc. Weston Acoustics 300B Time Machine * Location: Ascot Vale, Victoria (prefer not to ship at this stage) * Item condition description 8/10. This amp has been lovingly cared for but I have listed it as 8/10 as it had a split in the timber that ran along the grain line at the back of the amp. Earle was kind enough to repair the split. He reinforced the area internally, cleaned up the split and treated it with wax to make it look like grain. If you look at the first pic you will see it doesn't look as bad as it sounds. This split occurred when I first bought the amp and got it home. I have my gear up high away from the kids & as I lifted it to put on my shelf I must have not supported the weight of the transformers properly. Needless to say I was not happy. As you can see from the other pics besides that the amp is in great condition and works flawlessly. As I have stated above this amp comes from a loving home, it has never been abused and I have treated it with the respect it deserves. I wont rattle on about how this amp performs as everyone on SNA already knows what it can do. Also if you have never seen one of Earles amp's in the flesh be prepared for a pleasant surprise, they look far better in real life. * Price and price conditions $1700 * Reason for selling: I recently bought another, cheaper amp. I justified this to the boss by suggesting I would down grade and put the money towards other boring things. To be honest I don't want to sell it now but I am under significant pressure to stick to our deal. If I can't get my price I will tell her it's not worth selling cheaper and it will be a win win situation . * Payment Methods: Paypal, Cash - Pickup. * Extra Info: This amp recently had a trip to Earles to get pre in and outs fitted so I could run a sub. As such there are only two inputs as shown in the pics. He was also kind enough to change a couple of thingies internally, but I have no idea what they were, (maybe flux capacitors ) It comes with Sylvanian 6SN7, EH 300B tubes and a Mullard 5AR4 rectifier (not shown in pics). If you want any more pictures or have any questions please let me know. * Pictures
  7. I just came across this video about the manufacture of valves. For anyone interested in valves it's a must watch. The KR Audio 300B valves I bought in the past seem less expensive after seeing this.
  8. Last Sunday I had a visit from the proprietor of a small family owned business located on the Mornington Peninsula who had this in the back of his car: As I write I hear Leon Russell's piano, Carl Radle's bass and Jim Keltner's drumming with a wholeosity and righteousness that I have never heard before save in my dreams. 18 easeful and proper watts of single ended gooditude on the left side, and the same on the other. Proper bass - not Disneyvision bass, proper bass as comes from musical instruments. Rich, detailed without obtrusiveness. Space everywhere without disintegration. Grip and punch like real music. It is love. The end of the road for me. One to grow old-er with. This is what is inside. It is work of which Mr Miura (he of the beautiful Luxman MB-300) would be proud. ( I hope the photographer doesn't mind me lifting this pic.) We are lucky to have among us someone who can create such magical things, although he is too modest to believe himself a magician: apparently it's all in the iron. And I am lucky to have it to listen to.
