Translucent Green vinyl press of their 1988 release, SEALED and BRAND NEW. 'Starfish' is the most commercially successful album the band produced, and is regularly featured in any major Top 100 Australian albums of all time. To my knowledge, this is the only record company-authorised coloured variant of the album the Church ever released. $45 TOOL - Salival - (Unofficial, Red vinyl Volcano - VOL31158). MINT/MINT NEW (Never sealed). It's the first time I've ever had a RED vinyl version of this essential TOOL title, which never had a full commercial and approved release. Get on it. $58 PAUL KELLY AND THE COLOURED GIRLS - Gossip - Double AUS LP gatefold. Never repressed (Mushroom L45961/2). VG tending to VG+/VG++. Essential Paul Kelly, still sounding fresh and relevant today. I haven't been able to offer this title since February, as this is the first one I've found since that time that is up to your standards. Cover is good with some rubbing/age on front, less on the back, gatefold contents perfect (check the video). 2 very nice OIS. And the double wax? Immaculate everywhere and playing like a dream throughout. For mine, PK's essential title where everything works. $45 ELO - Greatest Hits - Dutch original and a beauty (EPC-450357-1). VG+/NM. Minor edgewear/tears only marks down. CBS Nice Price original flyer, and separate OIS. The wax is perfect - I mean absolutely perfect. Shiny, bright, see-your-face in the reflection NEW. Not bad for a 30+ year old title. $20 ELO - Discovery - Dutch gatefold original (Jet Records - JETLX 500). VG+/VG. Cover/spine is rolled to back, some edgewear and large blue sticker top right front. No ringwear. OIS is good (just a little tear at top). Wax plays well, a little noise on the intro to first track, but lovely afterwards (ask me to glue it if you wish). $10 ELO - Out Of The Blue - AUS pressed double gatefold LP (L 70077/8). VG+/VG++. Really lovely poster, AND spaceship present! The cover is good but has general rubbing wear front and back (see video), small marks elsewhere, edgewear and bumped corners (especially top left front/spine) that is typical of a worn stored copy. Gatefold interior is like new however. Both records look incredible, and sound great with little to no noise throughout – stellar! Both OIS and also awesome. See the video to judge the cut-out spacehip, which has one linear piece missing, but is otherwise bright and beautiful. $16 THE POLICE - Regatta de Blanc - Canadian pressed original (A&M Records - SP-4792) VG+/VG+. Cover has just some edgewear and light corner bumping. Light ringwear starting. Nice OIS present. The wax is lovely and plays with little to no noise. $18 SADE - Stronger Than Pride - AUS original (460497-1) VG tending VG+/VG tending VG+. Cover is fine but for minor edge wear, slight ringwear on back, no OIS. Wax is marked but plays well. $12 STING - Bring On The Night - AUS pressing (RML 55017/8) 2LP set. VG/VG+. Cover has seen better days with heavier wear to the edges and a corner bend top left front, and bottom right corner (see video). Wrinkling along all 4 edges and the sleeve opening. Two nice full colour original inner sleeves. Both records show marks and need a cosmetic clean, but play fabulously and have terrific sound throughout. So a really great playing copy. $8 DIRE STRAITS - Love Over Gold - AUS pressed original 1st press with Alan Parsons-driven, MAXICUT II mastering (6359 109). VG+/NM. The cover is great (just some light marking/rubbing/ring wear - see video please). The original OIS is looking good. Not perfect overall, but it's the waxy contents you want on this one...This title (like Pink Floyd vinyl) *demands* absolutely whisper-quiet surfaces, with its myriad quiet moments interspersed with breaking guitar leads that really test any system. This vinyl copy has it all - Maxicut mastering combined with near-zero noise floor and track to track sound quality of the highest order. From the near-silent intros to the outros, all you hear is....music. Why am I selling it? I found two! The vinyl then is in fantastic condition with only the very lightest hairlines in very strong overhead light (the real test that few actually apply), still shiny and looks great. It plays without noise and most importantly, wipes the floor with 90% of any country pressing you care to match it with (and that includes the recent Rhino/Warner highly-touted repressings). Most of these originals out in the wild are trashed & played out these days - this one is a rare gem. Don't agree? Send it back on me, no questions asked. Hello, well this is a subject that is going to divide, and a subject that I NEVER EVER EVER EVER thought I'd be writing here about. BUT, well, here it goes...... I'm considering, or at least playing with the idea of selling off my analogue gear to go digital. ****, I've actually said it! Over several years and with a lot of help and advice found on this forum, I had a fantastic education and introduction into the world of Audiophile Hi Fi and equipment, starting off with vintage Sansui amps and speakers, then exploring the graceful sounds of luxman amplifiers through to Trafomatic tube amps and Hoyt Bedford/Omega single drivers. No to mention my complete vinyl journy into TT's, needles, pre-ampsn upgrading and tweaking (upgraditis), custom made counter weights etc etc.... and making custom made furniture to house it all in. Now after all these years, I'm going to give it all up in the favour of digital files, DACS and streaming? What's got me thinking: 1. Space, I'm now living in a small apartment (I'm in France and sheds and big houses are extremely rare) and I need to downsize. 2. Time, with work I have less time to spend building and tinkering with hi fi (although this is fun) and just want to come home and listen to music. 3. Cost, I'm sick of my eternal upgraditis and I can't afford things here in Europe (particularly in France where the Taxes are HUGE). Vinyl is expensive (even though I love it). 4. Access to new music. I'm finding myself spending more and more time discovering new stuff streaming on QOBUZ than listening to my vinyl collection. I've been really enjoying the exposure to artists outside my habitual orbit i.e. listening to stuff I definitely would never buy on vinyl due to $$$ but nevertheless really like. 5. I can listen to hundreds of high res files on QOBUZ and in the end its so much cheaper than buying vinyl. The romantic in me of course says WTF, but then the counter-romatic is excited by a change in direction and the opportunity to discover new equipment and further my education in audiophile sound. My horizons are opened by the digital possibilities of listening to music whereas the vinyl/analogue seems to bring me back to safe and secure territory (and of course I'm sick of convincing myself that Vinyl really sounds better.. although it does ... doesn't it???). Hi all. I adore, like many, "A Kind of Blue",but only have a cd copy. Thing is, I always sort of loved the tape hiss evident in the recording, however now that I have much better gear, and in particular have been auditioning a new hand built amp with exception detail, the hiss drives me mad! I have a pretty reasonable vinyl setup, and much prefer some vinyl to my hi res digital. So: I am aware there is debate and personal preferences. I won't include the mono vinyl pressings for now. so which should I get? I'm tempted by Music on Vinyl's Deluxe reissue (although pressed from digital masters). Any parts not meeting strict requirements are disregarded. The oem factory Lenco idler wheels are replaced with new cnc machined idler wheels with newly resurfaced rubber outer rims. Addressing motor vibrations, another goal of ours, again entails the incorporation of a drain cavity extending from the bottom of the motor running through the entirety of the plinth to minimize any possibility of unwanted mechanical vibrations. Fortunately the precision Lenco Swiss motor was built well enough that the level of inherent vibration is quite small, a testament to its engineering quality and high tolerances. During final stages of construction and just prior to application of finish, the prepped and sanded plinth is carefully and thoroughly inspected to ensure the base layers are ready for a long lasting and smooth finish worthy of any showroom or home. Finally, after multiple spray painted coats, multiple acrylic clear coating layers are applied and allowed to cure for at least 48 hours prior to the final wet-sanding and buffing stages. The tonearm boards are made from solid German Panzerholz, Lignum Vitae, Brazilian Rosewood or Cocobolo hardwood.
