  2. Hi all, Looking at investing in a tube phono stage to upgrade my project phonobox. I have seen one in the US that grabs my attention which is in my budget of around $1500. Can get it brand new delivered for just under that. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Aural Thrills Audio, Serenade model which is an all tube phono. http://www.auralthrillsaudio.com/ I would prefer an all tube as all of my other system is tube. Look forward to any advice/suggestions.

  4. Item: Magnat RV2 Location:Maitland NSW Price: $1500 firm Item Condition:Used Reason for selling:Have the itch again Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info:This is a German designed and built beauty and it show! It is better made than the Airtight that it replaced! Has lovely tight bass with full mid-range and sweet tops, probably and end game amp for most... Would prefer local pickup, but could box and ship if needed.. From the net: HiFi TEST (Germany) excuse translation.... Logically, the successor carries the name RV-2 - simply and simply, as the concept, which he basically inherited from his predecessor.Simplified, this means: one pair of double-diodes each for the input and the phase reversal stage, then a quartet pentode in push-pull circuit for power amplification. Nevertheless, changes and improvements have been made in the details. Thus, in the final stage, the standard EL34 has been changed to 6550-pentodes - which gives the RV-2 on the paper a first performance. There has also been a great change in the phonostage, which is no longer carried out in tube technology, but as a semiconductor circuit. In return, there is an MC input. The biggest and most obvious change, however, took place on the amplifier's dress - whether the RV-1 no longer appealed to its builders or whether it was trying to be a bit more "stylish" is beyond my knowledge. At the time, I had the deliberately reduced retro design of the RV-1 very well - especially because one had opted for a closed housing. In this respect the RV-2 is a step back to the usual "desk design" of most tube amplifiers. A survey among colleagues shows a clear result: The black RV-2 with its strikingly remote control elements in chrome pleases most significantly better. The dominant volume regulator in the middle of the front plate has something: with its turbine design it reminds me of the great time of the American road crosses, when the tail fins were no limits and everywhere Chromium dominated. But back from the street into the listening room: The RV-2 is undoubtedly technically a powerful amplifier. Just like the old school: two ECC83s in the input stage, two ECC82s in the driver stage, which bring the 6550 so far on tours, that loudspeakers with four as eight ohms nominal impedance are available at least 50 watts per channel. This is also a respectable result for a push-pull amplifier. In terms of measuring technology, the result is a thoroughly clean picture - especially in the case of low-harmonic distortion, the magnate can certainly measure himself with his transistor alternatives. Here, the RV-2 goes its own way, which is characterised by a somewhat more full-bodied sound, singing a little more chest gives and string instruments this very special fling. Just to put it right: the magnate is by no means a "salted" machine - it is only right in juice and strength. He has quite fine manners - neither have the basses ruffled him, nor are heights overburdened. There is balance and discipline everywhere, even if the RV-2 is really dynamic. The Phono stage is excellent, although the tube version in the RV-1 is still my preference - I like just amplifiers, which work purely with tubes. In terms of sound, the magnate ranks among the very clean and disciplined playing transistor amplifiers and the single-ended tube amplifiers, which we have tested in parallel in this issue. The former has a somewhat earthier style of playing, but must give itself in terms of absolute precision, but it's close - really very tight. Compared to the single-ended candidate, however, it is almost a neutral surprise. A clear, sober, but also more accurate, he plays in direct comparison. A compromise? If so, I would rather call it a successful combination of everyday convenience with tube flair. But I can imagine a lot of people, the rich sound of the Magnat RV-2 already goes far enough into the field of classical tube amplifiers but with balance and ability to drive real world speakers. Conclusion A consequent further development: A bit better equipped, a bit stronger and even more musical: the black beautiful RV-2 likes to take on the legacy of its wonderful predecessor. 5. Item: Schiit Vali 2 HP Amplifier & assorted tubes Location: Summer Hill, Inner West, SYD Price: $225 NEG Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Trying something else Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I bought this from a fellow SNAer about a year ago and have used it to drive a number of different sets of cans from HD414's to Sony MDR Z7's to AKG K702's and it's performed very well no matter what's plugged into it. Included with the amp are a selection of tube including Amprex, GE, Siemens and a Golden Lion (I think the transfer has partially worn off the glass). I've tried them all in the map and have found that all produce a different tone, which I guess is why people loved to roll tubes! I favour the Golden Lion as it's produces the most punch and warmth to my ears. I don't have the original packaging but can post as I have box that'll work. Postage will likely be $14 to most states. I've really enjoyed having this little gem of an HP amp in my system and will miss it's versatility, it's simplicity and the fun of rolling tubes. There're many reviews online for this great little amp and I know it has many admirers on SNA. Pictures:
  6. Item: 2 Matched pairs of PSVANE 12AU7-T reference Location:Richmond, Vic Price: $ 30 for 1 pair or $55 for both Item Condition: Approx 400-500 hours Reason for selling: These have been sitting idle in the draw for a few years since i sold my Prima Luna Amp Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These were used in my integrated Prima Luna amp, when sold i held on to them thinking i will get another valve amp that I can use these in. Well i have another valve amp again finally but it doesn't require the 12au7. I purchased these online from Psvane Store in the US Pictures:
  7. Item: A pair of CONSONANCE CYBER 845 MONO BLOCKS Location: Ascot Vale, Victoria Price: Withdrawn Item Condition: Excellent - These amps have been lovingly cared for however there are a couple of dents/marks on the side edge as shown in the pictures. They look far worse in the pictures than in the flesh and must have happened during our recent move as I had not noticed them until I looked them over for this add. Reason for selling: Wife forced me to. - We have recently moved into a new house and while it is bigger than our old house I am told these are far too big to go in our lounge room. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Over the years I cycled through a few amps, valve and solid state before finally settling on these. During this journey I found that I was very drawn to the Single ended valve sound, however, found their low power limiting. The Consonance 845's where the solution for me with class A, single ended, 28 watts. I currently have Shuguang 845B, National Electronics 5687 and Philips SQE88CC tubes fitted to the amp and will include the additional valves, shown in the pictures, in the sale. Due to the size & weight, (approx 30Kg each), a local pick-up preferred. Happy to answer any questions. Pictures:

Here is one of them from Audiogon...Review: Audio Valve Eklipse Tube preampCategory: PreampsI started a lengthy home auditioning process of highly regarded tube based active preamps, after spending three years of having two great sounding passive linestages in my system, Placette buffered & Bent Audio Tap TVC, that lead to a clear winner in the context of my system and personnal taste the Antique Sound Labs Flora EX DT. However, the Audio Valve Eklipse was on my list of preamps I really wanted to listen to, but I could not find a dealer that could arrange an audition at that time.Well, recently the website Stereo Times had a review on the Eklipse and I saw that the reviewer, Mike Wright, had gotten his audition piece from Mike Kay of Audio Archon located in Libertyville, Illinois. I had never met Mike in person, but had over the last couple of years many delightful conversations with him dealing with all things in highend audio. So, when I called him and asked him why he had never mentioned that he carried the Audio Valve line in his salon, he retorted, "you never asked." I have been very lucky in that the numerous retailers that I have done business with, just a very few have been jackasses, have been stand up gentleman, helpful with their knowledge, and very honest to deal with. I knew that Mike was a good guy who knew highend audio before I auditioned and purchased the Eklipse from him, now he's way up on my list of great guys to do business with, he made everything easy and was a pleasure to work with. Thanks Mike. Before, I get into the body of my review I want to mention that besides Mike Wright's online review of the Eklipse, Stereophile's reviewers Art Dudley and Robert J. Reina had given superlative reviews on this linestage with one gigantic flaw in my opinion, they only reviewed it with the stock 12AU7 Electro-Harmonix tubes! No offense to anybody, but these tubes sound like horsecrap. This would be like taking a world class high performance sports car and putting the worst gas possible along with cheapest junky tires and then taking it for a test ride. At least Mike Wright put in NOS RCA clear tops to see what this preamp could really sound like. Remember, even with the crap tubes Dudley and Reina thought the Eklipse was quite good, but they have no idea how good without the right tubes. So, my review is based on listening to the Eklipse with my all time favorite 12AU7 tubes, Ameperex longplate D-getter. These tubes just sound like music to me.The Eklipse is built in Germany by a small family run company. Like my MBL transport and Accustic Arts DAC the German craftmenship and build quality is very apparent. This preamp weights over 41 pounds. I choose the silver face with chrome knobs because it matches my Pass Labs and Accustic Arts pieces. True eye candy. You also can get it with a black face with either brass or chrome knobs. I never get into technical details in my reviews, that you can get off the Audio Valve website or give Mike Kay a call.On to the specifics regarding the sonic performance of the Eklipse:1) The Eklipse produces an expansive soundstage in all directions with great accuracy. If the music was recorded in a large venue you hear it, if recorded in a small intimate club your there. It also creates very precise layering and location in the soundstage.2) Since I mainly listen to acoustic jazz one of the most important factors for me to enjoy the music is natural timbres and harmonic richness. My old reference, the Flora, was wonderful in this area, so I can't say that the Eklipse is significantly better, but it's terrific in this very important sonic area.3) The Eklipse has the lowest noise floor of any active preamp I have ever had in my system. Therefore, the clarity/transparency allows micro details to emerge more intact. I really noticed this on decay trails throughout the frequency spectrum and on cymbals and guitar strings.4) The Eklipse produces the most agile/dynamic bass with great weight and impact that I ever had had in my system. This is one of the areas were the Eklipse really was significantly better then the Flora.5)The other area were the Eklipse left the Flora as a second best was in overall micro and macro dynamics. This preamp offers a crispness and jump factor that is world class.6)The Eklipse also has that quality that I call liquidity or the sense that the music just "floats" into the room with great easyness that allows you to relax and get into the emotions of the music in a very natural way. I experience my Pass Labs XA-100's in a very similar way.Mike Wright stated in his review that with the NOS RCA tubes he and his friends liked the Eklipse better then the highly regarded Conrad-Johnson ACT2 series II preamp in his reference system. Robert J. Reina said in his review that after having another very highly regarded preamp, the Audio Research Ref 3, for a few months he was not disappointed to go back to his Eklipse in his system. Remember, Mr. Reina uses the stock horsecrap sounding tubes in his Eklipse, what would he have experienced with a great pair of NOS tubes!I still think the my old reference, the Flora, is a great preamp, however my new reference is the Eklipse for the reasons I shared in my review. While not inexpensive at the retail price of $5,500.00, it's offers great bang for the buck and I believe will compete sonicly with much more expansive linestages. Pictures:
  9. Hello Does anyone know where i can get valves tested (beyond just good or bad) ? Looking for a tech with experience and good test equipment. Thank you !
  10. Item: Audio Note OTO SE - Integrated Tube Amplifier (Line Version) Location: Melbourne Price: $1,500 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: No Longer Used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: If you are looking for a sweet sounding integrated valve amplifier then look no further! I have had this since new. This is the line version (no phone stage) of their well regarded 12 Watt, Single Ended Class A design amplifier. You can find more details here: https://www.dagogo.com/audio-note-oto-se-integrated-amplifier-with-phono-review/ . Note the comments on their experience with its power - this amp will happily drive 90db sensitivity speakers to more than unreasonable sound levels. More details in the PDF's attached. The amp is in very good condition. The only signs of wear are on the output terminals where the plastic surrounds have discoloured and chipped in a couple of places. Only work done has been replacement of the mains filter capacitors, and the EL84's in the amp. Valves are comm only available and not expensive to replace. The is very impressive to listen to - selling due to the need to downsize / change in direction Pictures: Audio Note Brochure.pdf
  11. Item: Audio Research Ref 3 Location: Perth - South of the River Price: $4300 Item Condition: Used, Excellent Reason for selling: No longer required Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Bought this used from Audio Fidelity in September last year (less than 6 months ago). I changed the handles to silver for the Ref 5 look (looks much better and sounds better too! ;-) Seriously this preamp sounds as good as they said, I'm selling because there's an opportunity to upgrade to Ref 5. A couple of SNA members advised me not to sell this because they think that The Ref 3 sounds better than the Ref5 and even the Ref6. Unfortunately I have to sell this as I need the money. Last listing of Ref 3 on SNA was sold for $5500 so you know this is a bargain. I no longer have the box so local sale is preferred. Pictures:
  12. Item: Audile tube preamp Location: Melbourne (east) Price: $850 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Too many preamps Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: This is an Australian designed hand-made tube preamp, which delivers a smooth, involving sound. It uses Jan Philips 5814a tubes (can take 12au7), and comes with a spare pair of new old stock. The amp has had an easy life – used for no more than 30 hours by me since I bought it here, and the previous owner had barely used it in the past five years. It has two RCA outputs and five RCA inputs. Note, the one marked 'phono' is a ground only, not a phono stage as such. (There is monitor in and out, but they have not been used by me.) There is no remote control. The preamp has plenty of gain. I had it serviced as soon as I bought it, which cleaned up a faulty diode in the power supply, and other diodes were replaced for good measure. That, plus the tubes, explains the slightly higher price than I paid. This amp sold for $3800 new at Secher Audio back in 2011, so the price here is pretty good. As you'll appreciate, I don't really want to send such a beauty through the mail. Pictures:

The Transcendence Eight+ has a built-in multi-stage high voltage analog regulated power supply with separate regulators for each half of each 6CG7 tube. 21. Further Information: A bit over 1 year old and sparingly used - cosmetically and sound-wise like new. I may ad a bonus: set of four spares Russian NOS 6Н6П. Due to very heavy weight, packing and safety, pick-up in Melbourne (Frankston) is preferred. According to legendary Lampizator designer Lukasz Fikus (you may Google his article), 6Н6П (there are two English transcripts : 6H6P and 6N6P) IS THE BEST SOUNDING TUBE for small to medium gain circuits (which are used in preamplifiers). The Silver Edition uses a square section pure silver with 24 carat gold wiring in all crucial signal paths and in the umbilical cord from the power supply. This quite substantial Preamplifier is an upgraded version of the quite stunning AM RT-2, which evolved from the Stereo Knight Magnetic Enigma. This is a minimalist in operation, but no effort spared, quite over the top, nothing to degrade the audio, everything previously learned Preamp. It was needed to to drive AM's Crowning Glory. The Nothing spared, whatever it takes to achieve the absolute in music reproduction. It is a stunning piece of design and engineering. The multi selector 33 step volume pots are painstakingly constructed in house for the ultimate in quality. Many years of research and development has gone into these pots. They operate multiple windings on transformers, which are also constructed in house, and give the first level of amplification, the same as the extremely impressive R-S Transformer passive preamp. This then drives the nothing compromised, nothing spared tube amplifier section, with a simply humongous power supply weighing about 25kG. The monstrous transformers have a bandwidth exceeding 15hZ to 122KhZ. The Preamplifier works in Pure Class A, Single Ended mode using two 6H6P as the drivers, two 6H6P valves as the amplifiers. The preamp is a dual mono design, so that the transformers, power supply and voltage regulation are completely separated, so avoiding noise and cross talk. They use a large number of high value U-Cap copper foil capacitors, which were carefully chosen for their natural, analytical sound. The output transformers bandwidth can extend to between 15 HZ to 120KHZ. The remarkable level of performance has been achieved with an all new audio and power supply circuit design. This new audio circuit is all tube, Class-A, with zero feedback, utilizing a total of four long-life tubes (2 6H6P as the drivers and 2 6H6P as the amplifiers). The Magnetic R-T3 is a direct upgrade from the AM reference version of the magnetic passive preamp, which already delivers an exceptional performance, by utilizing both tube amplifiers and output transformers. One great advantage of this magnetic feature is that it is capability of optimally matching with any amps and interconnects, while accepting input from any sources, at various impedance levels, with the least possible interference to the signal. The power supply is divided into two separate parts: The main power transformer, which is used to power the audio circuit, and MOSFETS, that are used for both the voltage stabilization and for a constant current supply. This enhances the reliability, and makes the tube amplification as linear as possible. With its great build quality, very carefully selected audiophile grade components, versatility and the ability to musically transform every system, not only does the AM R-T3 deliver striking clarity and detail that presents instrumental timbres and textures in an unmatched amazingly lifelike way, but it also represents great value and great reliability. 22. Further information: Currently I have another Abbas DAC running. I bought this brand new 2.2SE as a spare one - only tested for a few weeks. Abbas DAC had extraordinary impact on my audio system, comparable only to Osborn Grand Monument speakers' impact. I have compared this 2.2SE in my home to several DACs, costing much more, award-winning and iconic in audiophiles circles, both solid state and tube. In my audio system, Abbas made these reference DACs sounding nearly like a boom box or a mockery. Abbas has succeeded in achieving impossible: putting together shocking sound naturalness, life-likeness, musicality AND outstanding resolution / superior soundstage. This unit comes with TDA 1541A chip, manufactured by Philips in Holland, which is superior to more common TDA 1541R, widely used in Philips's budget and 3rd parties CD players. Here is a description of 2.2SE DAC from Abbas: The device is based on the legendary Philips TDA1541 chip. However, the best chip requires appropriate quality components around it. Chip does not play singly. We used the best components selected in a special way to get a perfect harmony. This choice is not random but the result of a careful and long term hearing examination. We don't use modern high-end ultra pure copper or silver wires inside DAC. We used only an old vintage copper wires taken from klangfilm, telefunken, siemens sound equipment. Stranded wires are composed of different varieties of copper strings on a certain principle that leads to the device's ability to transmit the subtlest musical nuances. We believe that it is the only way to recover the lost life in the recorded music.DAC 2.2SE features: 1. Tube DEM clock ( E180F, EAA91 ). 2. CS8414 SPDIF receiver 24/96. 3. Shunt voltage regulators based on the germanium transistors. 4. Vintage and modern audio components are used: allen bradley, philips, telefunken, Capacitors: Black Gate (2pc FK series), Audio Note kaisei, Nichicon muse KX, Nichicon muse KZ. Resistors: Allen Bradley, Audio Note tantalum. 5. Board covered with gold and a special varnish for best sound. 6. Stranded wires composed of vintage copper wires taken from klangfilm, telefunken, siemens sound equipment. 7. I/U convertor based on the special low noise germanium transistor. As a consequence of this fact, an excellent reproduction of quiet. sounds,at -60..-80db level. 8. PIO output capacitors HYDRA or Siemens from 60s. 9. Shortest signal path, the tube output stage with the low output impedance (5687,EZ35). 10. NOS mode(non oversampling). 11. Genuine TDA1541R1 or TDA1541A Philips factory. 12. Siemens film capacitors in the DEM cells. 13.Separate power transformers for digital and analog sections. Separate transformer for DEM clock. 14.Telefunken choke from 1930 in the power supply of output stage. 15. EZ35 tube rectifier. The device has an incredible tonal purity and clarity. The result of our efforts are the deep, accurate bass and the extremely smooth, soft, like analog sound. Output: 4v RMS (1khz, 0db Full Scale) Dimensions: 440 X 200 X 100 mm You will get with this device installed: 1. 5687 tube NOS 2. EZ35 (6X5) tube NOS 3. E180F tube NOS 4. EAA91 tube NOS
  23. I have transitioned to a new triode amplifier and this Evatco kit valve amplifier does not get used anymore. All transformers are the Canadian Hammond and the 300B tubes are the Gold Lion, Genalex. This single ended amp had less than 20 hours playing with efficient speakers; it is like brand new. It needs a few minutes warming up. Heavy but could be packed safely.
  24. Custom built a couple of years ago by the local 'Tubemaster' with selected parts of excellent quality; Luxman OY 15-5K output transformers, Audyn Copper Caps, EL34 Philips NOS, 12AT7 NOS Mullard and Philips. Push-Pull delivers 15Watts into 8Ohms for stable and durable operation. Phono on board (on the side). Point to point. Fuse protection for OPT. Cost for the parts only exceeds the asking price. Used mainly to listen to my classical collection this amp sounds spectacular with refined tonality and detailed presentation. Like all the other valve amplifiers I built with my tech this one is bullet proof. Will be packed with care.
  25. Further Information: A good way to get in to a tube phono preamp for not a crazy amount of money. Had this for a while now and it’s worked brilliantly in my system although like most Little Bears can be susceptible to external noise (hence why I made a solid tube shield). This has sounded exceptional in my system and punches way above its weight. Only noise I’ve had is from EOP on same power loop, but even that is well below normal listening levels. Gives your vinyl a wonderful tube sound and great soundstage. The v10’s come in a clear plastic case which I wasn’t keen on, so this is mounted in this hefty Alu case with various tweaks made internally to accomodate (lifted tube sockets, shielded input cable run down side). Happy to open the preamp up for those that are interested. Also the toroidal transformer has been moved to another chassis with an umbilical to mitigate any potential hum caused by the transformer being in proximity of the tubes and audio circuits. Have Russian tubes in it now and the original Chinese tubes will also come with the preamp. It’s pretty heavy so not really keen on posting but can review if required. Selling to buy some tubes for a new preamp, don’t want to put this in a cupboard to never see the light of day again. Happy to answer any questions. See less
