  1. Item: SVS SB13 Ultra Subwoofer in Gloss Black Location: Melbourne (Alphington) Price: $1800 ONO Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Wanting to upgrade to 16. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: https://www.svsound.com/products/sb13-ultra Still have original box. Is a monster to transport so come prepared. Fantastic 13" closed box subwoofer for music content. I use it in purely music 2 channel audio setup and it blends very nicely. Happy to let people audition it for music beforehand. I'm only selling it because I'm obsessed with getting the larger one. Current pricing according to http://deephzaudio.com/SVS Australia pricing page.html is $2,999.00 RRP Pictures: Here it is in place in the system:
  2. Item: Paradigm PDR100 Location: Inner West, Sydney Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Great sub with plenty of grunt and a relatively small footprint. I am the first owner and the sub is in excellent operating condition. RRP: $799 Control Facilities: • Auto On/Standby • Subwoofer Level • Subwoofer Cut-Off Frequency (continuously variable 50 Hz – 150 Hz); Bypass Option • Sub/Sat Phase Alignment (continuously variable 0° to 180°) Input Facilities: • Line-level Inputs Pictures:
  3. Item: Velodyne VX-10se subwoofer, silver. Location: Sydney Price: $100 Item Condition: Very good. Reason for selling: too many subs! Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: These were around ten years ago and retailed for $699. I've not used it much, having larger and better Velodynes to play with. When using line level inputs it has to be turned up a fair bit to make a really forceful impact, but when you get the volume and crossover right it delivers a very good sound for the asking price! See also my Yamaha YST-SW205 advertised for $75. Pickup can be done at Baulkham Hills 2153, postage in Sydney Metro area $12, others ask for price. Pictures:
  4. Item: Yamaha YST-SW205 powered subwoofer Location: Sydney (pick up Baulkham Hills 2153. Postage to be determined but $12 in Sydney Metro area.) Price: $75 Item Condition: very good, one knob substituted non-original but otherwise good cosmetically. Reason for selling: Payment Method: Bank Deposit, Cash, Paypal. Extra Info: I’ve been accumulating subwoofers one way and another for years. Used to be in the hifi business and since retiring I acquired a few more on the s/h market. Time to let some go and work for someone else. I have some heavier hitters than the ones on sale, but the ones on offer are all adequate for supplementing satellites or bookshelf speakers. I’ve usually found that speaker (high level) connections work best, but line level is ok. This one has both line level and speaker level (proper ones that take bananas or bare wire) inputs, plus the usual sub features like phase reversal, auto on/off, crossover adjust. Pictures:
  5. Item: Pair of Elektra Audio InfraBass Bipolar Subwoofers Location: Melbourne .Local Buyers Only Price: Cost $6600 for the two, sell $1700 includes $40 donation to SNAs Item Condition: Cosmetic - 7/10, operational - 10/10. Reason for selling: Using full range speaker, no longer needed. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank Deposit . Extra Info: Each cabinet has 2 upgraded 10" Focal Kevlar drivers. Internally Rewired with Jenna Labs wire. Large Bybee Quantum Purifiers on all positive and all negative speaker inputs and small Bybee purifiers on RCA amplifier inputs. Special Edition also has upgraded 500W internal amps. Dimensions & Weight: 535 x 335 x 410h with spikes. 35KG each Each box/cabinet has 2 Focal 10 inch drivers in a Bipolar configeration , which means they are at oppossite ends of the enclossure . The big advantage is active vibration cancellation, improving the dynamic range, and reducing the vibrational load on the box. The 500watt amps are class A B , not digital . Having 2 subwoofers with 4 total drivers means you can run the amps much more effortlessly with better sound quality at lower volumes than if you had just one . It is also better with eliminating room modes if you position them asymmetrically. You also get smoother bass . Pictures:

  8. Item: Hypex DS4.0 Subwoofer Plate Amp and Mission E8AS2 Subwoofer Location: Caloundra - Sunshine Coast Price: $180.00 Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: Have new Subs Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal +3% Extra Info: This combo has only just been moved out of my system, it was being used daily up until this point. I purchased the plate amp about 6 years ago brand new locally and it has worked flawlessly. This was purchased to replace the original plate amp that fried itself. The plate amp was fitted by me (got the wiring right but with the right tools it could have been fitted better) the combination was working brilliantly until recently when I noticed a flutter coming from the sub, but only during intense low bass. I figured it is an issue with a woofer but not being an expert I decided not to replace the woofers to see if that would fix the problem. The subwoofer itself is a looker, it does have some scratches in the Anthracite 2pac finish (aren't kids great!) but from across the room still looks as sexy as the day I brought it. the RRP for the sub was $3499 in its day. Being a sealed unit running 4x 8" woofers it creates tight clean bass. I paid $500 for the plate amp when purchased. This would be great for someone thats looking for a DIY sub with most of the work already done. Other condition notes: One of the legs was loose so it has been screwed in solid but not with factory fixings The mesh covers are in great condition with no holes but some of the clips are broken, the faces hold in fine and do not more or rattle though. Comes with power cable and user manual. Local collection only, this beast is big and heavy! Specs: DS4.0 400Watt Class D subwoofer plate amplifier with active filtering. 11. Howdy all, Happy New Year! I thought I'd start a little side topic based on my movie watching over the Christmas break. I bought a nice little sub as self-given present, and then went on a... somewhat excessive (according to my better half) quest to find some material (mostly movies) that would test it out.. along with the other speakers in my home theatre. Now, you'd think in this age, that there are many fine movies that test out a subwoofer. But boy was I struggling a bit to find something that really "reaches deep", for more than a few moments, a scene, or even at all! So I "went to the all-high oracle of knowledge (google) for other people's suggestions. Many people suggested movies far too numerous to mention here. But after taking some of their advice, I'll outline what I watched: Jurassic Park is a classic, for the stomping of the T-Rex... ok, that has it's bassy moments. Star Wars.... (anything really) but a special mention goes to Ep II for the seismic charges. (The first thing I tested the sub on). U571 (Old now, but good atmospherics). House of Flying Daggers. (The drum scene is pretty good for bass, pity about the story). Pacific Rim... yes, there's some VERY nice bass here. Master & Commander. (I only have the DVD, but the cannons certainly have some punch to them). Thor I & II (Yep those are good ones) The Avengers... Good Bass. Lots of crunch. Captain America I & II. Some nice bass in all that.. but nothing really seems to stand out in my mind. Super 8.... yes... that was a train crashing in my home.... To my neighbourhood.... I'm sorry the sound disturbed you, but truth be told, I'm not sorry I did it! :~) Brave... I know, I was shocked too! Great atmospherics for the overall sound system too! Lord of the Rings trilogy... with special mention of the battle scenes in the Two Towers, and Return of the King. Good bass with the War Oliphants (Elephants) collapsing, and the catapaulted rocks. Letters from Iwo Jima. As far as the sounds of warfare can be considered "Nice". The Dark Knight... that's a fair whack of bass! The Matrix movies have some nice moments, especially with the EMP pulse and many fight scenes. Tropic Thunder (Please forgive my watching of Ben Stiller) but the explosion in the beginning is very cool. The latest Star Trek movies. Aside from the sound being great, I just couldn't help but think back to "Heroes" and muse "Why Sylar, your ears have grown so pointy!". However, for SHEER DEPTH, DURATION, AND IMPACT.... MY PERSONAL WINNER IS: The latest (2014) reboot of the Godzilla movie. A 12" sub is good... a 15" or bigger would be better! (Or multiple subs for a noticeable improvement). There's so much bass! Power plants collapsing, planes crashing, giant creatures fighting like Pacific Rim, but a bit bassier (yes, I know I didn't think that was possible) Go watch it, with the sound cranked, and you'll understand why! I'd love to hear what movies get your fillings rattled out! Also, what movies do you think has the most immersive sound? Love to hear your thoughts! Hamish.

  13. Title pretty much says it all. Which sub is better for a home theatre? I want the deepest, hardest hitting bass i can get my hands on but with the svs been over budget, id be buying second hand. Is there better options out there for the money? I was going to go for 2 pb2000's but then thought im doing everything else around the 1 seating position, so ill do the same with bass.
  14. I have 2 Klipsch SW-450 subs in my Theater room, one in the front and one in the mid back behind my couch. I was told by someone that I should have both of those up front and get a third sub with the speaker posts on it wired to my surround speakers so when a dedicated explosion happens in the rear I will have the boom also back their. any ideas
  15. Hi all, Sorry but this is going to be a long post. After a number of major life changes recently, I have to downsize everything and unfortunately, that includes my stereo system. My existing system is one I bought from Penny Lane in Melbourne over 30 years ago. While everything is in immaculate condition, it's gotta go. The turntable, which is a REGA Planar 3 with an Ortofon MC10 Super cartridge, will not be replaced, though I'm keeping my vinyl. I just don't play vinyl any more. The amplifier is a NAD 3020B which has been an absolute trooper and will be sadly missed. The speakers...aah, the speakers. These are Carlsson OA50, recently refoamed by Open Ear Audio and sounding as good as they ever did. I don't play loud. I think I only ever ran at a constant 1 watt on the amp once and that was too loud for me. The next system will have to fit into a bedroom so the only candidates are bookshelf speakers and a small sub. I hadn't really listened to this system for a few years because the speakers needed fixing so I was confined to a set of Sennheiser HD600 headphones which I like but don't love. In fact the other thing that's driving this is my need to relax and headphones are too claustrophobia-inducing for me. The sound is also rather artificial and properly-placed stereo speakers have a better soundstage for my liking. Since getting the Carlssons refoamed, I have discovered two things: 1) I seriously need music in my life right now so that I can zone out and 2) those speakers are going to be very hard to replace. But unfortunately, they take up too much floor space and are a bit uncompromising when it comes to position. Small bookshelf speakers and a small sub are much easier to accommodate. Of course. all of this will depend on where I end up but the likely set up will be in a bedroom. I should also add that my hearing is not very good. I'm much more interested in musicality and engagement so I'm not very good at auditioning. I lack patience but I definitely know what I like. So far, I have listened to B&W 685 and 686, Dynaudio Emit 10 and Emit 20, Canton Chrono 512 DC and 513 DC, Monitor Audio Silver 2 and Castle Richmond Anniversary. On the list but yet to hear are Tannoy Revolution XT6 and Elac Uni-Fi UB5. Of those I liked both B&Ws and both Dynaudios. I thought the Castles were good but not stunning for the money. The Monitor Audios left me less than completely satisfied and the Cantons, while beautifully made, had no mid-range worth speaking of. Amps have been Arcam A19, REGA Brio-R, AMC (don't know which model) and a couple of compact units, such as the Cambridge Audio ONE and the Marantz 611. Still on the list to be heard are Yamaha U671, NAD C 338 and some of the other very small class D amps like the Pro-Ject Maia, the NAD D3020 and the Yamaha WXA50. The Arcam was nice but not stellar. I think it had a bit more in the tank. The REGA Brio-R wasn't as good as expected and the AMC wasn't too bad but it was rather large. I was even less impressed with the REGA after I saw what is inside. IMHO, it's not a well-designed amp, putting an unshielded toroidal transformer in the middle. I'd love a Marantz 6006 or Yamaha 501. Those guys really know how to design stuff but they don't know what "small" means. I have considered the Yamaha MCR N670 bookshelf system but I would definitely be looking to upgrade the speakers. So my budget - while contingent on what I can get for my existing stuff (which I really don't want to part with) - is up to $2K for a speaker package - which may have to include a small sub, - and about $1K for the amp. The subs I'm considering are the B&W 608 and the Dynaudio 250 II. I'm not looking for floor thumping bass. I just want music. I have an old Blu-ray player I'm using as a CD player at the moment. It's not very musical but it will do for now. I play mostly classical music from Gregorian chant through pipe organ music to symphonies and concerti but I like 60s - 80s rock (Pink Floyd, The Who, Deep Purple, etc.), a bit of jazz here and there and even some electronic. The existing system does all that extremely well and with a fabulous soundstage. So, if you've been kind enough to stick with me this far, I'm interested in your opinions. Fundamentally, I'm looking for something so that I can listen to the music with all the nuances. I don't want to be distracted by equipment.
  16. Item: Paradigm Sub-1 Location: Illawong NSW (near Padstow / Menai) Price: $3300 (firm, >50% of RRP) + courier + 3% paypal if you want to go that way Item Condition: No marks that I can see, one of the grill pegs is broken and wedged in hole (shown on photo) Reason for sale: redoing room - no room for sub. Extra info: As good as reviews indicate. Its in the cherry finish, which looks alright. If you desperately wanted black or another colour, I'd suggest a vinyl wrap as an inexpensive way to get there. Also includes the pbk kit (subwoofer EQ system), original box, receipt (purchased 16 months ago from Eastwood hifi -> it has 20 months of warranty left) . Specs as per following link, http://www.paradigm.com/products-current/series=signature/model=sub-1/page=specs. Basically has 6 8" drivers in sealed enclosure, will go reasonably loud and reasonably low and I have not heard it distort. I think the current Paradigm top of the line sub is near identical to it (I'm struggling to identify a difference in the specs, apart from the colour). Pick up is preferred, and you'd have to help me lift it into your car, its 50 kg of subwoofer. I do have the original box - and courier is an option - previous quote about $200 to Melbourne (would need to be confirmed for your destination).
  17. Item: JTR Cap S2 Location: Perth Price: $2800 + shipping Item Condition: Perfect (kept in kids, pets, smoke free environment) Reason for selling: Too many subs Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Hesitant sale. I’m not sure if there is such thing as too many subs Twin 18” drivers with 4000W amp (continuous, 6000W peak) – more output than you’ll ever need. In my room, the Cap S2 on its own can get well down below 20Hz getting around 10Hz. This sub was the reason I spent a lot of time and money sound proofing my current room. In my last house where I first bought it, second night I was using it I had a neighbour come by and politely ask me to put the volume down………as his floors were shaking………. Despite its power and performance, it’s a relatively shallow sub, offering great placement flexibility. Can be used on its side, or upright (like I have). Sealed design, so tight bass – good for both movies and music. To buy new, will cost you the following: 3000 USD (3800 AUD) + shipping via sea freight ($500) + GST ($430) = $4700 at least Demo available for local buyers. I don’t a have a box, so shipping will require a custom box or pallet. Link to manufacturers website for technical details: http://jtrspeakers.com/captivator-s2.html Just do a search on avs and you’ll find a plethora of feedback. For reference in the picture, it's the dual upright sub between the centre and left speaker. Pictures:

List price USD, $364, plus shipping and customs clearance from US via surface shipping only]. Dayton Audio blurb: With the UM18-22 Ultimax 18” driver, Dayton Audio has taken everything about the respected Dayton Audio Ultimax subwoofers to the extreme! Providing over 2” of peak-to-peak excursion, the Ultimax 18 sweeps over six liters of air with each stroke! Truly not for the faint of heart! Like the rest of the Ultimax series, the UM18-22 plays it clean, low, fast, and LOUD. Designed to excel in either sealed or vented enclosures, it features an ultra-powerful triple stack of high-grade ferrite ceramic magnets for ultra-high force and exceptional control, plus dual aluminum shorting rings above and below the magnetic gap for minimized inductance, “faster”-sounding bass response, and perfect magnetic symmetry. The voice coil diameter has been increased to 3 inches, for even more thermal dissipation area that allows the 18” model to withstand 1000 watts of punishing bass power continuously without thermal fatigue. Dual 2-ohm voice coils allow for stereo 2 ohm operation, or mono operation in 1 ohm or 4 ohm configurations, for true design flexibility. The huge 18” Nomex honeycomb composite curved cone features woven fiberglass outer skins for the ultimate in rigidity and resistance to damage, while the “tall-boy” rubber surround with integral gasket supports extreme stroke with linearity and durability. Dual 8” spiders are mirror-imaged, to keep the 2” of excursion completely linear and provide cancellation of distortion due to compliance asymmetry, for ultra-low mechanical distortion even at the outer limits of travel. 20. Hi, I am planning and gathering bits for my yet to build home cinema, and I am trying to get an idea about subwoofers. How many, which type and how to set them up for movie playback. I do have a pair of Martin Logan Montis, which have a powered (200w) 10inch woofer in a closed cabinet. This woofer is crossed over at 340Hz where the panel starts to take over and are rated to go down to 29Hz +/-3dB. I also have a single Paradigm Ultracube powered (650W) 12inch subwoofer with 2 x 10inch passive radiators. This subwoofer is claimed to go down to 19Hz DIN. The new room will roughly be 3.4 x 5.5 x 2.5m (46 cbm). The recommendation is to use more than 1 subwoofer for a better bass response. I can't really count the Montis woofer as subwoofers, since I have no control over them separate, and they still have to play up to 340Hz. The Paradigm does have their PDK software for bass response control so going with another Paradigm or Martin Logan would make integration easier. But should I go for a twin pair of subwoofers, or can I mix and match? What other options can I use to integrate the lower end into a smooth and powerful response, and would a 15inch sub be a good addition or more of an distraction. There is a fair chance that all of this is will be sitting behind an acoustical projection screen.

  23. Item: Quality Sat/Sub combo (note: I have other sat/sub combos at www.homeentertainment.com.au/saleswatch ) Location: Sydney Price: now $225 Item Condition: Used but good - Tantra 1 lack grilles but still look nice - actually nicer - without. Reason for selling: Clearing excess items Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Velodyne VX-10se Powered Subwoofer + Soundcraft Tantra 1 Speakers $249 (new rrp was around $1200 for this combination) - lovely sounding full-range speaker system. Can be used with most amplifiers, sub has both line level and speaker lead inputs, and the usual adjustments for phase, crossover, volume. The Tantra 1 are quite efficient and use very good drivers so this is way above your usual run-of-the-mill inexpensive sat/sub system. It's got some cred. The Tantras can be wall mounted as they're threaded at rear for mounting brackets and also have front reflex port. Pictures:
  24. I picked up a Welling WS 602 dual 8" subwoofer as part of an old secondhand 5.1 setup. I bought the set, which included Accusound Eclipse speakers (not sure which version), for $30. My intention was to use the speakers as a test set for my DIY Class D amps. The subwoofer was just part of the sale. As I love a bit of DIY, I am interested on your opinions on replacing the dual 8" woofers with something better, and may be the plate amp too. I have never built a subwoofer before, or replaced drivers, but I am up for the challenge. Does anyone have an specs on the WS602? As their is a black hole for specs on the web for this model.
