  1. HI all. I have a stereo Setup (Denon DRA-375RD and Wharfedale Diamond 9.5) which i am relatively happy with for the time being (with the little one running around). It is mainly used for music but is also plugged into the TV for when we watch movies. The room is around 20sqm I was thinking of adding a smallish sub to compliment the system using high level inputs as the amp does not have a sub out. What would people recommend for a sub $500 sub, i dont mind purchasing second hand as i will eventually do proper HT when the little one grows up a bit. I would predominantly want it for music but also be able to perform when watching movies (that is more important than sounding good with movies and poor with music) Cheers, Luke
  2. Hi Guys, Good day, monitor Audio Silver 8 floor standing speakers + Rotel amp + FIIO DAC . Great sound. Monitor Audio shines in High, mid and lows. Great stereo Thanks SMB
  3. Further information: 70W/channel Stereo Amp and DAC. Great for hook-up to a digital source (ie computer, tablet, pod, CD player) and bypass their inbuilt DAC to utilise this far superior one. The USB D/A converter is the 32-bit high-performance SABRE 32 from ESS Technology, and its USB device controller IC is the latest product from XMOS, the semiconductor firm. It is compatible with native playback of the DSD 5.6MHz (DSD128) format or 384kHz/32-bit playback. Supported formats are: MP3, WMA, MPEG4, AAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD – 192 kHz / 24bit; 96 kHz / 24 bit; 5.6 MHz Few minor scratches on top cover. 4. I’m hoping you knowledgeable people can help me out. I originally posted a thread seeking help on selecting a suitable AV receiver and speakers (fronts and centre) for a 3.1 setup. I was originally planning on getting a 7.2 receiver as I may (a very unlikely may) end up getting some surround L/R built into the wall. The other day I went into a local Hi-Fi store and demoed a number of speakers and decided to buy the Wharfedale D320 bookshelf speakers (we were very impressed with the sound from such tiny speakers) and the Wharfedale D300c as I was initially set on a 3.1 setup through an AV receiver. However, upon reading up on a few forums and receiving advice from knowledgable people on other AV forums, it sounds like I’d be better off going for a stereo amplifier and buying two bookshelf speakers. I never considered this as I always thought a 2 channel setup would result in poor audio quality for film/TV, especially dialogue. I currently use a JBL Cinema SB 450 (soundbar) hooked up to my TV via optical (the Arc HDMI input has gone - either on the SB or my TV). I only have a PS4, 4K player and Apple TV 4K hooked up to my TV. For music I use a Bose Wave SoundTouch. I’m looking to buy a setup to replace the soundbar and Bose Wave to improve on the sound quality, the major issue with the soundbar is the dialogue. My partner has hearing problems so we’re having to have subtitles on all the time. We don’t want the setup to be too big (ie floor standing speakers) as the room it will be in is used a lot for having friends over, so we don’t want the setup to be a dominant feature of the room. Whatever setup I get I’ll be using it equally for music and film/TV. I haven’t got a turntable yet but will be looking to get one soon. I may cancel my speaker order tomorrow and use advice from members to buy a suitable system. I do have a reasonable budget for the system, but was hoping not to go above $3k. If I do go for a 2 channel stereo system, I’d probably need a sub too so that would need to be factored in. Is $3k going to be enough to buy me a 2 channel stereo setup that will out perform my current soundbar? If so, what amp and speakers should I consider - will the D320s be ok to keep? We don’t want floorstanding speakers and the bookshelf speakers will sit on top of our entertainment unit on either side of the TV. As most of my music listening is done via streaming, should I get an amp with Wi-Fi or can this be done through phone / computer? Or would it be best to get a stereo amp and a DAC with streaming capabilities? Or should I stick with an AV receiver with a 3.1 setup? If it helps my living room is 5.8m x 3.8. About 2m x 3.8 is not used for entertaining as it is an empty space with some wall furniture and one seat that we use for reading. We sit about 2.5 metres from the TV. The room is also carpeted.
  5. Further information: Unit is in original and working condition Sound quality is great, however some channels are scratchy and requires additional aerial if under metal ceilings. No refurbishment, has only been cleaned since original purchase No shipping provided due to large shipping cost. Photos:
  6. Hey All! I've been out of the loop for a few years now but finally getting some free time to enjoy movies/gaming/music again and want to improve on my current 2.1 audio setup to match a recent 4kTV upgrade. My current setup is: Visual Sony X85G 4k HDR TV Sources CA Azure 751BD Bluray/Cd Player Foxtel iQ4 PS4 Pro iPhone11pro Audio Rotel RA-06SE Integrated Stereo Amp B&W 685 Speaker Pair B&W PV1 Subwoofer A $50 Jaycar DAC that's handling the optical audio output from the TV to my stereo amp while i'm working out which path to go down... For simplification purposes I now basically stream everything movie/TV related via all the streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ etc or watch sport and premiere movies on Foxtel. And, if i'm being honest, I probably stream music way more just from my iPhone these days than a CD. I'm basically embracing super fast broadband, improved streaming quality and convenience. So anyways, i guess I'm looking for advice on where i can add/improve on my current setup to better suit my new way of consuming media. Now a couple of notes: I have no plans to update the speakers/sub anytime soon. I'm happy with them. I have no plans to grow my physical movie/music library. I'm embracing the ease of streaming services. My audio focus is more towards being immersed in a movie/tv show and less so on music, which is more for in the background when cooking, entertaining etc. My total upgrade budget is around $1k - $1.5k for new component/s... but certainly no more than $2k. A decent DAC to handle the PCM optical outs from my TV and Foxtel is an obvious solution, but: I want this upgrade to be a family friendly integration - not a symphony of remote shuffling. I'd like the option of a sub line out as well as stereo out. I'd like the option to stream music from my iPhone sometimes. A new integrated stereo amp is the other solution to handle the digital audio outputs from TV/Foxtel/ps4 and drive my speakers. Downside is i'm left with the RA-06SE which i do still like. But, if i can get an option that is better in audio quality as well as handling my digital inputs within my budget than it's A-ok. I want this upgrade to be a family friendly integration - not a symphony of remote shuffling. I'd like the option of a sub line out as well as stereo out. I'd like the option to stream music direct from my iPhone sometimes. So i guess the advice i need, taking into account how i watch/listen to stuff and what equipment i already have is: Recommendations/brands on where to start on the new DAC Path? Recommendations/brands on where to start on the new integrated stereo path? Recommendations on another path that I've missed? Thanks in advance. TCG
  7. So Im only 15 but Im getting sucked into the DIY hifi and audio stuff. I want to make a medium sized 2.0 stereo system using low end Peerless and Daichi components. links: https://www.wagneronline.com.au/daichi-1-titanium-dome-wide-frame/daichi-universal-series/daichi-universal/speaker-drivers/audio-speakers-pa/dt700-6994/3075/pd/ https://www.wagneronline.com.au/peerless-by-tymphany-6-mid-woofer-sds-paper/speaker-drivers/audio-speakers-pa/830657-67560/975521/pd/ Is their any advice for when i eventually make these, components etc. Im probably going to use 16mm mdf, is that thick enough?? And what size enclosure and port is suitable for these drivers?? I was thinking of making the front baffle around the same dimensions as an A4 piece of paper. hopefully all good results, with the drivers n all but knowing me lol. I have made other speakers before, so don't cut short on the geeky side. DIY freak

  10. Item: Plessis Audio S1 Stereo Integrated Amplifier Amplifier Location: Sydney. Will post interstate. Price: $600 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: No longer needed / upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Plessis Audio S1 integrated amp in excellent condition. Bought new from Len Wallis Audio in 2017. The S1 came about as a joint effort between Charl Du Plessis and his manufacturing partner in China. The design brief was to come up with an amplifier that delivered great sound quality at a really good price. I recommend this amp as an introduction to audiophile grade hi-fi and in my own blind listening tests easily goes toe to toe with amps well over twice its RRP. Weighing in at 10kg, the result is a fantastic sounding no frills amp that delivers 80 watts RMS into 8 ohms and 130 watts into a 4 ohm load. The only controls are a wonderfully smooth motorised volume control, input selection (from front panel only), mute. A minimalist remote and bonus headphone out. Lovely sounding and was enjoyed in my system, has a slightly warm tone, excellent drive and presents a nice amount of detail. Physically, there's a few light scratches and a slight bit of discolouration on the top of the case where the significant other placed something that stuck to the case, and she used some solvent to remove the residue.
