1. Hey Mike, just a question out of idle curiosity, what is the breakdown of the speakers that you sell? ML1s vs ML2s vs ML3s vs S2s. I'm sort of guessing that the ML2s are the most popular but I could be wrong, they may just be the most talked about, so I thought I'd ask.
2. Item: EIGHT SPEAKER JUMPERS Location: SYDNEY Price: $5 including postage in Australia Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Want to retire soon Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Pictures: 8 basic speaker jumpers in excellent condition!
3. I've got 4 of these Accusound DL895 floorstanders, a decent speaker if not a standout one and far better than the model which replaced it (by all accounts at least). They aren't selling so I've decided to turn them into a bit of a project by pulling down and replacing all the internal wiring, and maybe upgrading the capacitors in the crossover, on two of them and leaving the other two standard. There don't appear to be any resistors in the crossovers so that simplifies things a bit. I might just paint the insides of the cabinet with some bitumen too, after reading a few posts in this section and performing a few "knock" tests on the speakers in question I think that might just help. Once I'm done I'll run the original and improved versions side by side and see what I can hear, sounds like a good bit of fun. That wire is thin! In fact decent interconnects (and by that I mean Redgum $25 ICs) have more copper in them than this internal speaker wiring. The inductors seem fairly solid, no plans to touch them. Anyone got any suggestions as to what brand and type caps I should replace these standard ones with? I'm not looking for the best there is, just good quality caps.
4. Item: Dali Ikon 7 (Mk1) Floorstanding Speaker (Black) Location: Brisbane, QLD Price: $1100 PRICE DROP $1000 plus freight (if required) Item Condition: Excellent condition Reason for selling: Upgraded and wife won’t let me keep 2 sets of floorstanders in the house. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Only Extra Info: RRP for these speakers was over $3k and JB Hifi have the mk2 currently for $3750. These are not to be confused with the Concept Series. The Ikon’s were hand made in Denmark and include the beautiful ribbon/soft dome tweeter combination along with 3 x 6.5 inch drivers. 4 out of 5 stars when reviewed by Whathifi as per the following link. http://www.whathifi.com/review/dali-ikon-7 I’m the original owner and as with all my hifi gear, they have been looked after with care. There is not a scratch or mark on either of the speakers. They came with 5 year warranty when new so you can purchase knowing that they are covered by this warranty until July 2014. I have the original receipts. I don’t have the original boxes anymore so would prefer local pickup but I’m happy to help coordinate shipping if arranged by the purchaser. If local, I’d be more than happy to demo the speakers. Let me know if you have any questions. Note that I’m planning on listing these on other sites later today, get in quick if you want to pick up some great speakers in excellent condition. Pictures:

7. Item: Anti-Cables Speaker Cables L2 (6 foot pair) Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $80 $60 posted in Australia Item Condition: Almost brand new, minor kinks (unavoidable) Reason for selling: Not needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: Purchased from Audio Addiction earlier this month, these are a 6 foot pair with Banana terminations on one end and spades on the other. As anyone who has owned AntiCables will tell you, they are extremely stiff (solid core construction) and inevitably develop kinks. I've straightened them out to the best of my ability and then re-wound them for packing, but some minor kinks remain (obviously doesn't affect the sound). Shipping is free to Australia. 8. Here is a pair of homemade floorstanding speakers I designed. A 100% original design, no speaker kits. I designed all the specifications for the enclosures and had a friend build the cabinets for me. I then painted the cabinets and installed the drivers. Cabinets are 88cm tall, 22cm wide and about 30cm deep and are constructed of 18mm MDF all round. Bass/midrange driver is a 6.5 inch Sony Quick-Edge Woofer taken from my old Sony speakers. The driver has a HOP mica cone and thick grooved rubber surround (suspension). The tweeter is a 1 inch Vifa soft dome tweeter which I purchased separately. I decided to use a better quality Vifa tweeter over the old Sony cone tweeter because it front mounts to the cabinet a lot more easier and looks much more professional, sounds much better too. There is no crossover in the cabinet. Instead the woofer has dual terminals with a capacitor glued on that cuts out the lows to the tweeter so as I said no crossover is required. They are connected to a single set of banana plug terminals at the rear of the cabinet. The inside of the cabinet is stuffed with damping material along the side walls and parts of the front and rear baffle. I painted the speakers myself in a two tone grey/black finish enamal paint, starting with 3 coats of primer sanding between each coat and doing 3 coats of semi gloss grey for the sides and rear and 2 coats of satin black for the front, top and bottom. The speaker enclosure is ported and after doing some calculations online I figured the port length needed to be 5 inches after figuring out the woofers have a resonant frequency of about 54hz. Luckily I did not have to chop the ports shorter as they turned out to be roughly the correct length with the box capacity 31 litres. Port length is crucial if you want good, balanced bass response. The ports are 6 inches deep from the entrance, 3 inches wide. I was aiming at just a simple secondary pair of speakers for reference, not after the top quality sound. My VAF Research I-91 standmount speakers are superior with their Seas coaxial drivers but the Speakers I made turned out to have surprisingly good sound quality. Bass extention is superb and can easily put out 30hz and the top end is very nice from the Vifa tweeters. Upper midrange lacks a little bit but the stereo imaging is beyond superb and they also do a great job with 2 channel movies as well since they can go very deep, down to about 30hz. I decided to nickname the speakers Thunderboxes. Excellent for dance music. Overall I am very happy by the sound quality these speakers put out. Total cost MDF $100, Sandpaper, paint and primer $40. Vifa tweeters $40. Terminals, Ports and Foam $40. = About $220 overall. Excellent Bass down to below 30hz. In my room (carpet over floorboards, plaster walls) the bass tends to be stronger below 60hz (in the 35-55hz range) so these would make excellent 2 channel cinema speakers. This is also a rear ported design as well. Warm midrange. Upper midrange slightly less. Crisp and balanced sounding treble. Excellent stereo imaging if toed in or straight. Here is a youtube demo of the speakers. The sound quality is not good from the camera. And photos are also attached.
9. Relisted: Wilson Benesch Square 2 floorstander with custom 2.5m bi-wire cables Location: Hillside, Victoria Price: $3300 for both (price reduced: originally listed at 4k) Item Condition: Speakers are in pristine condition, cables are in very good condition Reason for selling: Moving house (down-sizing) and can no longer justify keeping them. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I bought these from Secher Audio in late 2009 and used them in the typical no-smoking, no-child environment. About 12 months ago I chose to explore a different direction (low powered amps/high sensitivity speakers) and no longer use them. I haven't used them for 12 months+ but couldn't bear to part with them- I had hopes of using them to upgrade my home theatre system. I am now moving into a small inner city dwelling and the missus has insisted it is time to sell. They are literally in mint condition, finished in the stunning W.B piano build black gloss. They are a very sweet, natural sounding speaker and I am genuinely sad to put them up (following the wife's orders). I am hoping they will find a very good home. I am pairing them with a 2.5m set of bi-wired cables that were the same as the cables Secher Audio made to demo them. They are based around two runs of Audioquest C6 cable. P.M me if you would like more information about the speakers- a quick google will bring up some relevant reviews. When I purchased them, the retail price of the W.B Sq2's was $6600 (now i believe around 6k) and the speaker cable was $1200. So save heaps on a truly mint, low use, example with custom cables for $3.3k. I would consider selling separately but would prefer to see them go together to the new fortunate owner. If you live in Melbourne you would be most welcome to come and audition them. If they sell for my asking price an appropriate donation will be made to SNA.
10. Item: Shindo Petite Latour Loudspeakers Location: Brisbane Price: $9,900 Item Condition: 7/10, some minor marks, second owner Reason for selling: Upgrade to full size Shindo Latour Payment Method: Negotiable Extra Info: This is a somewhat unique opportunity to purchase a pair of Shindo "Petite" Latour Loudspeakers, rarely available on the second hand market, even more-so in Australia. These are the "Alnico" version using modified Altec 1" HF and 12" LF drivers, Western Electric/Altec horn, proprietary adjustable crossover networks, and hand tuned resonate cabinets. The cabinets are finished in beautiful Pau Ferro (rosewood) veneer with trademark speaker legs. Sound is as good as they look, rich, coherent and open. The ideal compliment to any full Shindo system. The cabinets are approximately 45cm wide x 45cm deep and 120cm tall, the legs add around 6cm to the width at the base of the cabinets, weight is unknown but I estimate around 30-35kg per speaker, so not exactly 'petite' by modern standards. I have rated them 7/10 due to not being the original owner, there are some minor hairline scratches and small marks from previous shipping. There is also some fading of the cabinets from sunlight exposure, visible in the attached photographs around the grill area, otherwise they are in original condition. They are approximately 5 years old (2007). Reason for sale is the desire to upgrade to the full size Shindo Latour. As above I am located in Brisbane, but will ship Australia wide, or even international, freight costs will be quoted on an individual basis to serious buyers. Approximate crated dimensions are 120cm (L) x 66cm (W) x 145cm (H), and ~100 Kg if you would like to obtain your own estimates. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions, or would like more pictures. Pictures:

12. hey everyone, new here. Not sure if entirely the correct section so feel free to move, i'm sure i'll work it out eventually. There's a room in my house in which I have rearranged the furniture several times, however this particular time and which, incidentally, is my preferable arrangement, the sound quality of the speakers has been somewhat affected. The audio sounds fine sitting in front of the desk, however it's not until you stand near the door that you notice what you're missing - deep sub bass that sounds as though it should be there, but anywhere in the room it just isn't. Now i understand that it is not a hardware issue, as I have experienced the same effect from both a subwoofer, (under the desk) which i faced the port of in several directions to no avail, and also a stereo system. I play music, movies etc. through my computer, which runs all audio through SRS audio sandbox eq, kept on constant volume. Output is through mic output on computer, cable with wheel volume attached to a female 3.5mm/(red/white audio) into line in into analogue equaliser. Before my subwoofer mysteriously stopped working, I ran the output from the eq into the line in in the subwoofer, which also has a passive line out, to which i connected the line in to the stereo. The subwoofer sounded fine, clear at most frequencies and very satisfying. However, it was only when you stood near the door that you could experience the true ground-shaking bass frequencies, instantly making the audio sound terrible anywhere else. It's just not the same. As I said earlier, the subwoofer died and now I run the eq line out directly into the stereo's line in. When I was running the subwoofer, the bass below about 150hz was essentially completely dropped off on the stereo, as the stereo itself has it's own analogue eq. Now, the two speakers, ~5" driver, tweeter, are receiving the full-range, and the bass is quite clear, moreso than the subwoofer if not as intense/loud. However, again, the same problem persists. Thus leading me to believe that it is not a hardware issue, and that since i have not noticed it in other arrangements that the current arrangement is the problem. But for what reason in particular this arrangement causes the bass to dissapear, i cannot comprehend. I have included a layout of the room, in attempt you guys could help in telling me what i could do, if anything at all, to improve the situation without drastically compromising the layout of the room. However if push comes to shove then I guess another rearrangement is in order. hope anyone can help. cheers.

16. Hi Everyone I need some advice in regards to a peculiar predicament I have. I have a pair of Yamaha JA-4281B Tweeters that I have been using for a three way horn system I am building. I've been using them with great success when I had a fully SS three way setup. Recently I bought a multimeter and measured the tweeters and didn't get a reading. The bass and mid-range (all Yamaha) show 13ish ohms (16 ohm speakers), so no problem there. I contacted a place in America who deals with these and they replied back saying that the tweeter uses a capacitor, and capacitors don't give a reading. I have confirmed that the diaphragm gives a reading and that the capacitor is the only thing that doesn't, so measuring at the posts does not give a reading. Now my dilemma is that I want to use a valve amp to run this speaker directly (three way active) and I have heard that valve amps need to have resistance otherwise I could blow an output transformer. Is this true and if so, do I have a way around this problem??? Thanks in advance Andrew
17. Hi SN's, I'm a bit of a newbie, so go easy. I recently bought a pair of Magnepan MMG's and have them paired to a Rega Brio-R (I know, not the most powerful amp, but... $$$$) My question to you is: can you recommend a sub to go with these (MMG's are notorious for falling off below 60Hz) for under a $1000? Really appreciate your valued input. Cheers, S
18. I want to attenuate the levels of the mid and treble units in my MG3.7. When I use 10W wire wound resistors I seem to lose the liveliness of recordings, but without digital correction, the wire linked 3.7s are a tad bright for my reflective living room. I thought using 28gauge Nichrome wire which is 13.77ohm/metre & Jaycar sell for $4.95 for 4m & no doubt Bunnings will sell for even less. But I can cut to required length, parallel or quadruple wind to get even lower impedance for values of less than 1 ohm & chuck away if value is no good. Much prefer if the implementation should not have any effect on SQ. Has anybody used Nichrome wire [composition Nickel 80% Chromium 20%] for attenuation of mid or tweeter levels in their speakers ? Any audible effects compared to 10W wire wound resistors ? I am hoping that the series inductance is the culprit, but I am probably wrong. I am anticipating my final values will be 0.5ohm for midrange and 0.75ohm for treble. Any suggestion for commercial resistors other than 10W Duland Cast for this? Thanks HB
19. Item: Dai-1chi black speaker cloth 1.5m x 1m (4 packets) Location: North Ryde Price: $30 Item Condition: New in packets Reason for selling: Never used for project Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank transfer Note: these were bought from WES and have been in a cupboard since then and are not required.
20. I've been looking at ways to best clean/protect the piano gloss finish on my C1 Signatures as I'd like to keep them scratch free and glossy for many years to come. They are finished in a wood veneer with high gloss lacquer. After reading through many online posts, I'm getting mixed feedback on this topic. Some have recommended Turtle Wax Ice Liquid or Meguiars Next Tech, some furniture polish and others have suggested not using any products at all. I did ask a piano vendor and they just suggested furniture polish, however I'm reluctant to use abrasive polishes as this will wear down the lacquer over time. Does anyone here have any experience with this?

22. Hi all, It's been a while since I dabbled with home audio so I'm a bit out of date. I'm helping my parents with a simple setup in their bedroom and these are the core components: Samsung Series 6 TV Apple TV Two speakers Here are the two primary use-cases: 1. Watch TV (standard tuner) or watch the Apple TV. In either even the sound will go via the television. 2. Steam music to the AppleTV via AirPlay. In the latter situation, it'd be ideal not to have to turn the TV on. I don't think I need an A/V Receiver at all as there are so few components but I do need something to drive the two speakers. Here's what I currently have in mind: Apple TV (HDMI) -> Samsung via HDMI (handles audio and video unless I'm much mistaken) Samsung -> AudioSource AMP100 or similar Apple TV (TOSLINK out) -> AudioSourceAMP100 Input 2 If this setup sounds logical, I'd appreciate advice on: A. Does anyone have experience with the AudioSource AMP series, is it any good? B. When watching the Apple TV (not listening) the AudioSource will receive the same output from the Apple TV direct and via the Samsung. Will the two input system on the AudioSource work in such a way that Input 1 will be prioritised and it'll ignore Input 2 (this sounds too good to be true). Thanks all! Chris
