  7. Item: Wire World Equinox v5^2 Speaker Cable Location: Kelvin Grove Price: $350 $300 Item Condition: Excellent, complete with original bag Reason for selling: Not suitable Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Originally retailed for around $1500 Banana plugs both ends (terminated 2 to 4) / 2.5m I purchased this thinking that I would run bi-wire on the amp output to single-wire on the speaker input; however, I have since discovered that the cable is directional and should be used with speakers that are bi-wireable. Not sure I believe in directionality for speaker cables, but it bothers me! Also, one cable was returned to the manufacturer due to a slight imperfection. They sent out a new cable which has a slightly different print on it, other than that both cables are identical. http://www.listeningpost.co.nz/Products/Archives-Discontinued/Wire-World-Equinox-5-2-Speaker-Cable-__I.28729__C.50400__N.27756

  16. Item: 4 metre pair Osborn Datalink Speaker cables Location: Moss Vale NSW Price: $155 plus post - half RRP Item Condition: Very good- slight scuffing on connectors- otherwise excellent Reason for selling: No longer required for my bass bins Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Mine are the single stereo pair, spades one end, laboratory bananas the other. Not directional so can be used either way. From the Osborn web site: Osborn Datalink is the result of nearly 10 years of listening to cables. It is an extreme bandwidth, ultra high speed data transfer cable which has been very carefully selected and configured for unmatched neutrality, soundstage and dynamic range. I have found competing audio cables to match its sonic characteristics and even slightly exceed them, but not under 10 times the Datalink's price. In nearly 4 years of making this exact cable, We have yet to have one returned. We are completely confident in offering the guarantee listed below. The cable normally comes internally bi-wired, with two plugs at the amplifier end, and four plugs at the speaker ends. This is especially effective as the configuration and internal twist cancels the magnetic fields generated within the wire. It is also available with spades, or as a combination of spades one end and banana plugs at the other. It is also available as a normal stereo pair with two plugs, or spades at each end. The banana plugs were designed for Laboratory measuring equipment are are extremely high quality. (They are not self locking)

  19. I'm not one to spend big on cables but occasionally I'll try things out if the price is right, ie a bargain. Cleaning out the spare room recently I came across these cables I bought several years ago from ebay US. They're XLO VDO speaker cables with some funky looking braiding going on. I also have some XLO Reference interconnects and they too have a spiraled construction wrapped around a flexible hollow tube. I use the interconnects in my system and I'll get around to trying out the speaker cables again but is there any reason why the braided design would be beneficial to sound quality in these designs? Is there a actually a difference in performance between "HT" cables and "hifi" ones? Or is all this along with the THX branding more likely a case of the marketing department having their say? It's a manic time of year so thanks in advance if you find time to reply. Cheers, Leg11 ps. I noticed one of the cables has a tiny scuff mark exposing the wire. My guess is probably from being dragged across amp cooling fins. Any suggestions on repair? A dab of hot glue?
  20. Hi All, I have been reading about Belden's new cables for several months in the PS Audio forums (USA). Several pre-production sets were being evaluated and much of the feedback was very, very positive however there wasn't; A) little information from Belden themselves regarding the cable design, measurements, background and, B) you couldn't purchase them. The above has been solved so I thought I'd pass on the information for inquisitive minds here. I'm not involved in any way with Belden or HansonAV in the USA who are selling the product. I merely post for your information. I cannot personally comment on the performance as I haven't purchased any either! If they are as good as ppl say perhaps they are worth considering. At least the company has published performance figures, design and the whys of what they consider important. Enjoy the read. They sit at a price point where you are getting 90% of the performance of the very top-tier cables without getting close to the top-tier prices. These are the top cable that QED produce and have a good balance of detail and tonal richness. They are also very well shielded so work well in electrically noisy environments. RRP in Australia is around $600, but you can get them for $500 if you shop around. Original packaging included. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit. Extra Info: While not quite at the level of the above QED Signature cables, they offer the same sort of sound (in a slightly lesser degree) for a lesser amount of dosh. They don't quite have the tonal richness of the Signature cables but are still excellent at their price point. Shielding is again very good, though not quite to the level of the Signatures. RRP in Australia is $249. Original packaging included. The cable that is closest to, sound-wise, is the Wireworld Starlight, but the QED offers more air and detail, as well as a more propulsive bass. This is QED's top digital cable, and while you can do better (Nordost Silver Shadow and above, Wireworld Silver Starlight and above in particular) you have to spend a great deal more to do it. RRP. was $199 (possibly $249) from memory. Originally purchased for $129, I believe you can now get something similar new (from QED) for about $59. Original packaging included. _______________________________________________________ Item: Nordost Blue Heaven USB (3M) Location: Canberra Price: $260 Price Drop $230 + Postage Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Too long for my current system. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit. Extra Info: There is something of a debate about whether USB cables make a difference to the sound of a system or not. I've personally found that they do, but that the difference is smaller than the difference you get from changing other cables. In my system the Nordost gave more precise leading edges and a little extra air. Probably not worth it (In my system) for the $460 RRP I paid for this cable, but good value at the above price. I'm only moving this along because I need a different length now. Original packaging included. _______________________________________________________ Item: QED Qunex 1 Interconnects (1M Pair) -------------------NOW SOLD Location: Canberra -------------------------------------------------NOW SOLD Price: $25 + Postage -----------------------------------------------NOW SOLD Item Condition: Good ---------------------------------------------NOW SOLD Reason for selling: No longer used. ---------------------------NOW SOLD Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit. -NOW SOLD Extra Info: For those who don't believe cables make a difference but want a well put together pair of cables that are not going to fail. Enough detail, but also a wonderfully liquid midrange, and a bottom end that goes deep. I used these with a pair of mono-blocks, but they are too short for my current system. Would be good with mono-blocks, as patch leads from wall plates, or for a desktop system. Purchased for $60/m. I believe they are a silver/carbon hybrid.
  23. Item: Chord Carnival Silver Screen Speaker Cable - Unterminated - 14m (2 x 7m) *** AM 13.05.14 Payment Pending - PM 13.05.14 SOLD! *** Location: SA 5159 Price: $95 Item Condition: 10/10 Unused Reason for selling: Surplus to requirements. Had purchased 12 months ago but never used as we ended up with a VAF in-wall multi-room system.. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, COD, Bank Deposit, Paypal Extra Info: Please add $15 for Australia Wide postage. Product Background: Rather than being a simple development of the much-liked Carnival Silver, the SilverScreen is more akin to Chord’s upmarket Epic and Signature cables, using similar shielding technology. Chord has decided to revert to high-purity copper as the cable’s conductor rather than the silver-plated variety of its direct predecessor. The result is a detailed and authoritative cable that has the refinement and dynamics to work well in a wide range of systems. Add a remarkably cohesive presentation – where no part of the frequency range stands out – and impressive timing into the mix and you have what is a truly standout cable for the money." ***BEST SPEAKER CABLE, WHAT HI-FI SOUND & VISION AWARDS 2010*** “Inspired by Chord's award winning Signature speaker cable, Carnival SilverScreen sets new standards of performance. A truly cost effective upgrade to any hi-fi or home cinema system. “Chord has decided to revert to high-purity copper as the cable’s conductor rather than the silver-plated variety of its direct predecessor. The result is a detailed and authoritative cable that has the refinement and dynamics to work well in a wide range of systems. Add a remarkably cohesive presentation – where no part of the frequency range stands out – and impressive timing into the mix and you have what is a truly standout cable for the money." ***BEST SPEAKER CABLE, WHAT HI-FI SOUND & VISION AWARDS 2009*** “Product of the Year Awards 2008' - This speaker cable is detailed and authoritative performer that has the refinement and dynamics to work efficiently in a wide range of systems, and with a wide selection of music". ***What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision - November 2008*** “What Hi Fi Five Stars, Group Test Winner July 2008' - The Silver Screen leaves you gasping for superlatives with it's beautifully balanced, natural sound. There's an immense sense of separation and clarity during the opening of the The Streets' Blinded By Lights. An unflappable cable, and ideal fit for a wide range of systems". ***What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision - July 2008*** Up until now, Chords experimentation with shielding systems on speaker cables has produced products in the mid to high-end of their range. The Carnival SilverScreen dramatically changes that. During the development of the Signature and the Epic speaker cables Chord connected both cables to some surprisingly inexpensive systems, the results were extremely impressive. Shielded speaker cable produces a remarkably consistent series of improvements regardless of the system they are connected to. Chord Carnival SilverScreen offers a set of performance characteristics that make it unique at its price point. The oxygen free copper multi stranded conductors used in Carnival SilverScreen have been borrowed from the Chord Carnival Classic. Likewise the low-density polyethylene insulation and twisted pair configuration. The conductors are surrounded by a soft PVC casing that provides excellent mechanical damping characteristics. This is surrounded by a heavily overlapped dual foil shielding system and this in turn is surrounded and protected by a translucent PVC outer jacket, again with excellent mechanical damping characteristics. As with the Signature and Epic speaker cables the shield fitted to the Carnival SilverScreen reduces interference, lowers the noise floor and brings big improvements to the entire frequency range of the system it is fitted to. Timing is improved, as is the dynamic performance. Levels of detail are increased but what really matters is the coherency with which this information is presented. Carnival SilverScreen can dramatically improve the musical abilities of almost any system it is fitted to. However, given the price, Carnival SilverScreen should also be serious considered for use in home cinema and multi-channel music systems. The sheer number of components and the amount of cabling involved in a typical multi-channel home cinema and music system makes a compelling case for the use of a shielded speaker cable. For a typical home cinema system using Carnival SilverScreen for the front three speakers and Carnival Classic for the rear speakers will produce outstanding results. The fact that both cables share identical conductors will help to bring a real coherence to the sound of the system. Carnival SilverScreen should be installed so that the writing on the cable reads from the amplifier towards the speakers. The Chord Carnival SilverScreen connects your Amplifier to your speakers. Specification: Chord Carnival SilverScreen Speaker Cable 1.8mm diameter multi-strand oxygen free copper conductors Polyethylene conductor insulation Twisted conductor configuration Dual foil shielding system Vibration damping translucent outer jacket 10mm overall diameter Pictures:

  25. Item / Price: See list below Location: Gold Coast, QLD (will post at buyer’s cost) Item Condition: Everything has been treated with great care and is in mint, unmarked condition (unless noted). Reason for selling: No longer used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Now that my cable quest is over (yes, it ended expensively!), time to clear out the cupboard. These cables were all purchased new by me over the period 2008 – 2010; the signal cables have been unused since then (and mostly have little more than burn-in hours on them), while all of the power cords had been retired by the end of 2011. Drop me a PM if you’d like further information or photos. Pictures: Ultimate Cables Silver Series C4 Interconnects and Speaker Cable [ICs sold - SC sold] Astonishing value for money from a Canadian online vendor. Wire is 50/50 copper & silver with Teflon dielectric, cryo’d, shielded and silver-soldered. Has the optional Vampire high copper content RCA plugs and Vampire small spades fitted. Construction is excellent. Speaker cable is thick, heavy and stiff; bi-wired with spades all round and 6’ long end to end. ICs measure 0.5m and 0.6m ... that’s often all you need! These cables easily beat the much more expensive van den Hul and Kimber I was using previously. Total cost was around AU$400 from memory, will take $120 for the lot. MAC Interconnects and Speaker Cable Another online vendor, they’ve recently changed their name from “My Audio Cables†to “Rite Audio Cablesâ€, though the new website isn’t up yet. They came well recommended and offered a wider range of conductor types than any other vendor I could find. 3’ Ultrasilver [sold] – simple unshielded twisted pair of soft-annealed, solid core 5N silver in air-cored Teflon tubes. Proprietary silver RCAs. A smooth, rich sound, nothing like you expect from silver! Works well in any application. RRP was US$179, accept $45. 3’ Palladium [sold] – same construction as the Ultrasilver but pure palladium conductors, a metal used in some of the world’s finest and most expensive cables. This cable can sound sensational or very poor; it typically doesn’t work well between pre and power amps, and is fussy what you partner it with but from source to pre (and with the Ultrasilver between the amps, great synergy with these cables) it shines. RRP was in excess of US$400, accept $80. 3’ Reference [sold] – the company’s finest interconnect. Four palladium conductors in a complex braid, internally damped, unshielded, Eichmann silver bullet plugs. Very transparent, resolved sound; again, works better from source to (pre-)amp than between amps. RRP was US$649, accept $150. 8’ Shotgun Bi-wire Speaker Cable (2.6m end to end) [sold] – copper cables with cotton and PVC dielectric, thick but very flexible. Spades at amp end, bananas at speaker end. Detailed and smooth, these compete well at their RRP of US$750, accept $150. 1m Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference 2 [sold] – still a current model and one of the best-reviewed cables available for US$500, I bought these second-hand to use as a benchmark for the other interconnects. Unfortunately, every single one of them (even the cheap Ultimates) sounded better in my system! They’re also unmanageably thick and stiff ... but others seem to like 'em! Minor marking on the locking RCAs, otherwise in very good shape – accept $120. MAC Power Cords 2 x 3’, 5’ & 6.5’ “HC†cords [all sold] – individual heavy-gauge conductors of stranded, silver-plated copper with nylon sleeve in a simple braided design, no shielding. An obvious improvement on standard cords with analogue components.
