  1. Further information: A vintage FM tuner from the early 1980's, nice sounding and very neutral. It was one of Sony's best performing FM tuner when it was launched. See photos for unit specifications. It was my first component tuner and bought new. Note tuner receives FM only, no AM. Unit comes with the user manual, power cord and antenna cable. PRICE REDUCED! 2. Further information: Same applies here as for the DAP I have for sale. I purchased this to accompany a pair of low sensitivity cans that I owned briefly Then I putnit back in its box and didn't need it anymore. Battery has been stored thoughtfully. No scratches or signs of wear. The rubber pads and straps are unused and included, as is all cables documents and box With regards to the power this little guy provides, it is absolutely impressive, and a pleasure to use. Way too much power. No noise. Nice tonality. And I wish all my mini-jacks were 4.4mm. 2.5mm seems.. small, after this guy. Postage $15 including insurance. 10% discount right off the bat if you buy two of my items for sale. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  3. Further information: I have had this for over a year. I purchased it on a trip to Melbourne at JB hi-fi, and I also used it for a resort trip to Fiji. Otherwise, it has been sitting in its box at 50% charge, ready for duty. It's in great condition - I have always been careful with my devices, my wife would roll her eyes and interject "fastidious", as if I'm the wierdo.. It has never missed a beat, as you would expect from a Sony device, the battery is still in great condition, and I can safely pass it on to a new owner with no worries about performance or quality. Comes with a rubber armour case, black, and all the cables and paraphernalia. I am happy to send this to you, express post, for $15. Also selling a Sony Pha-2a portable amp on another listing. 4. Unlike the cassette which you can still find all over the place in thrift stores, eBay and any classified, the retail pre-recorded MiniDisc media is really rare in the wild. Where'd they all go? Let's take a quick look.
  5. Guys, I need some help to diagnose a problem with my Home theatre system. I am getting some random popping from all speakers. It is not just one or two speakers, its all of them including the subwoofer. The popping causes all speakers to move its cone to its full excursion and it is just as loud as the volume set on AVR. Some information on the equipments that I have in use. AVR: Sony STR-DN1080 Fronts: Ascension speakers (Adelaide speakers) Summoners Floorstanders Center: Ascension speakers (Adelaide speakers). Surrounds: Polk T15 Ceiling (Atmos): Micca 8" speakers. Subwoofer: SVS-SB2000 Media player: Minix Neo U9 Sony: UBP-X800 TV: TCL P65US Now the popping occurs very randomly, whatever the source is. Even when watching TV with its ARC channel it occurs and also occurs when watching Atmos Movie through NAS. I have no idea why or what causes it, nor I have been able to replicate the popping. All system mentioned above are about two years old, so not sure what could be causing it. I have done full factory reset on all equipments, removed all connections, took the AVR out and blew it with garden blower to remove any dirts inside if any, yet it happens. Does anyone have any idea or suggestions where to begin with this issue.
  6. Hiya - my son came over from the UK for Christmas so I got him to collect and bring back a Sony WM-5 cassette walkman as a birthday present and summer project. It was not working and in far from pristine condition but after considering a variety of different models, I decided I loved the look and design of this model best. The WM-5 is a relatively rare metal model that closely resembles the design of the WM-2 so I've referred to youtube and a digital copy of the WM-2 service manual to work on it. This is my first walkman project. I could hear the motor whirring when I put in batteries and pressed play but the capstans didn't spin. I suspected the belt had perished and confirmed that was the case when I took it apart. Note that, if you have one of these and want to take it apart, the play/ff/rw/stop buttons can get caught on the very thin aluminium fascia that surrounds them so you have to be very gentle working the body out of the case. Also, take good photos of the inside boards and thin wires in case you accidentally break them or for resoldering them. I found the original belt had turned to black goo and it took some time to clean it all from the wheels. I replaced the belt with one of similar diameter but 1mm width, which I bought in a pack of belts of varying sizes from Ebay. The buttons seemed to be working so I put it back together and have been testing it. My advice to anyone wanting to undertake this sort of project is to have all the tools, parts, DC power wart, grease and oil when you take your device apart - you don't want to have to take it apart more than once or twice as you increase the risk that something will break each time you do. I have got it working but I still have some issues to chase down (any help you can provide would be appreciated): 1. According to the part list for the WM-2, the dimensions of the belt are 44x0.9, which presumably is the diameter and width in mm? I've fitted one that looks pretty close to 44m diameter but it isn't easy to take an accurate measure of the diameter of a rubber belt! I have read that a non-standard belt can cause higher wow and flutter but this belt at least proves the motor mechanism works. 2. The ff button works fine and the motor action is smooth and relatively quiet but the rw button is unreliable. It will rewind for several seconds and then stop. If you press the stop button and then press the rw button again. It will start the action then stop quickly. Repeating will go back to rewinding for several seconds and then stop. The rewind action is noisy and not smooth. Also, sometimes, after you press the stop button after rewinding/ffwding, the left capstan starts turning for a few seconds before it stops?! 3. The play and stop buttons work fine except the play action is noisy to my ear (I can't remember how quiet/noisy walkman used to be!) and the noisiness varies metronomically. This might be causing the wow I'm hearing on the tape. However, I only have one tape to test the unit at present (I will locate some more) and while I think I detect some wow it might be the tape (it is an old and low quality children's story recording). 4. I have ordered some replacement screws for the several that are missing but I can't locate a replacement perspex window for my broken one. I see that you can get a replacement for the WM-D6 but I cannot find anything online to replace what has to be the most common walkman window in existence! 5. The matt black paint on the case has been scraped off in a few places and I would like to touch it up but don't know what product is best to use. I have thoroughly enjoyed my summer project so far, and I would dearly love to get it looking and running as well as it did in the 80s so any advice and encouragement would be gratefully received.
  7. Item: Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphones Location: Chatswood, NSW Price: $350 AUD (Firm) including free shipping. Item Condition: Good. Very minor signs of use as pictured. Well maintained and cleaned for a new home. Will ship in original packaging. Reason for selling: Not used enough. Payment Method: PayPal, bank transfer. Extra Info: Originally retailing for $1299 AUD, the Z7M2 probably has some of the best build quality and comfort of any large transportable headphone in its class. Just stare into the inky void of the black aluminium earcups and the Fibonacci sequence grille. I did not enjoy the sound as much as I had hoped but your mileage may vary - I think it does well with instrumental and well recorded jazz / acoustic tracks. Listing includes original packaging, 3.5mm cable, 4.4mm balanced cable and quarter inch adapter. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  15. Since our house was first built 17 years ago, the theatre has had a 110” screen. At the time of the build we also had it decked out with cabinetry – it was the done thing. Back then, some were still installing 4:3 screens and a 110” 16x9 screen was close to the limit of what many projectors could achieve . While the screen size seemed perfect for 16x9 content, movies in Cinemascope ( most of them) were reduced by the letterbox bars that are inevitable in this type of setup. My aim with the screen upgrade was to keep the 16x9 images at what they previously were and gain some dramatic improvement with movies. I settled on a 140” Oz Theatre screen . The screen was just part of major upgrade which included painting all the walls and ceiling , upgraded electronics and the most amazing centre speaker. Centre Speaker is Dynaudio Evidence with RRP of $39K which I managed to buy secondhand. It is designed as floor standing centre speaker - I tried it with conventional stands but the factory designed approach gives the best results. Sound wise this thing is nothing short of incredible . Its resolution, soundstage, imaging and bass completely lifts the whole system. It blends in seamlessly with the rest of the system . The fronts are Aurum Cantus Grand Supremes . They also project a large soundstage and have excellent imaging . It is amazing what flock coating acoustic treatments can do to the WAF. Moving to a Dolby Atmos /DTS-X system meant 4 new ceiling speakers. I settled on Polk Audio 70-RT from USA ( cheaper than buying locally) To drive the ceiling speakers I thought I would try a low cost option direct from China from a company called Wentins. I saw these at the Ghanzhou AV show a few years ago and they sounded great so I thought it couldn't hurt trying one out. I bought a relatively cheap 5 channel @ 200 Watts per channel. These guys make a huge range and will custom make high power amps to your specs. I had been using the original NAD Master series M25 for the system previously but after trying out the Wentins, it was clear it was doing things nicer than the mighty M25. It had all the speed of the M25 but with a richer timbre and superior dynamics and bass. This got me thinking, if one of their cheapest amps sounded this good, how good would one of their better ones be? I decided to relegate the M25 to ceiling speaker duties, use the Wentins multichannel amp for surrounds and rear surrounds , and ordered hifi monoblocks direct from the factory. These amps are fully balanced and produce 225 WPC into 8 ohms and 450 into 4 ohms. ( all speakers are 4 ohms in this system). They were still well priced but being hifi amplifiers, they did not have a 12v trigger which I have since added. The L&W brand is part of the Wentins group. These allowed me to run balanced XLR cables to each amp and I'm more than happy with the result.

  18. Item: Sony PVM Professional CRT monitor / JVC equivalent Price Range: Budget of $200-300 max Item Condition: Used or not working for parts Extra Info: Hello I’m writing to ask for ideas or contacts that may help me in finding older production equipment. In particular I am asking for CRT monitors, as made by Sony and JVC. My interest is for hobby use and I have experience and equipment for also servicing them. Perhaps you’ll laugh because I’m crazy for looking for CRT monitors in this day and age haha. If I don’t reach out then they just become harder to find. I’m in Phillip, Canberra and ‘will travel’ if one comes up. You can read more about my technology preservation efforts at my blog as linked below, which lately focuses on archiving Australian software from the 1980s. I’m in year three of searching for software and archiving it before it gets thrown out so I understand the importance of getting to things before e-waste does. Please cast your mind to anyone that could help in sourcing any Sony PVM / professional CRT monitors. Thank you sincerely
