I am not making any money by selling, therefore price is fixed. Please feel free to demo it. I prefer to sell it in person only so that you can demo it, and test it before you make a purchase. comes with: Sony WM1A Digital Audio Player (RRP $1349) 2 cases charging cable original box please send me a message if you are interested. 5. Item: Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphones Location: Chatswood, NSW Price: $350 AUD (Firm) including free shipping. Item Condition: Good. Very minor signs of use as pictured. Well maintained and cleaned for a new home. Will ship in original packaging. Reason for selling: Not used enough. Payment Method: PayPal, bank transfer. Extra Info: Originally retailing for $1299 AUD, the Z7M2 probably has some of the best build quality and comfort of any large transportable headphone in its class. Just stare into the inky void of the black aluminium earcups and the Fibonacci sequence grille. I did not enjoy the sound as much as I had hoped but your mileage may vary - I think it does well with instrumental and well recorded jazz / acoustic tracks. Listing includes original packaging, 3.5mm cable, 4.4mm balanced cable and quarter inch adapter. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  6. Hiya - my son came over from the UK for Christmas so I got him to collect and bring back a Sony WM-5 cassette walkman as a birthday present and summer project. It was not working and in far from pristine condition but after considering a variety of different models, I decided I loved the look and design of this model best. The WM-5 is a relatively rare metal model that closely resembles the design of the WM-2 so I've referred to youtube and a digital copy of the WM-2 service manual to work on it. This is my first walkman project. I could hear the motor whirring when I put in batteries and pressed play but the capstans didn't spin. I suspected the belt had perished and confirmed that was the case when I took it apart. Note that, if you have one of these and want to take it apart, the play/ff/rw/stop buttons can get caught on the very thin aluminium fascia that surrounds them so you have to be very gentle working the body out of the case. Also, take good photos of the inside boards and thin wires in case you accidentally break them or for resoldering them. I found the original belt had turned to black goo and it took some time to clean it all from the wheels. I replaced the belt with one of similar diameter but 1mm width, which I bought in a pack of belts of varying sizes from Ebay. The buttons seemed to be working so I put it back together and have been testing it. My advice to anyone wanting to undertake this sort of project is to have all the tools, parts, DC power wart, grease and oil when you take your device apart - you don't want to have to take it apart more than once or twice as you increase the risk that something will break each time you do. I have got it working but I still have some issues to chase down (any help you can provide would be appreciated): 1. According to the part list for the WM-2, the dimensions of the belt are 44x0.9, which presumably is the diameter and width in mm? I've fitted one that looks pretty close to 44m diameter but it isn't easy to take an accurate measure of the diameter of a rubber belt! I have read that a non-standard belt can cause higher wow and flutter but this belt at least proves the motor mechanism works. 2. The ff button works fine and the motor action is smooth and relatively quiet but the rw button is unreliable. It will rewind for several seconds and then stop. If you press the stop button and then press the rw button again. It will start the action then stop quickly. Repeating will go back to rewinding for several seconds and then stop. The rewind action is noisy and not smooth. Also, sometimes, after you press the stop button after rewinding/ffwding, the left capstan starts turning for a few seconds before it stops?! 3. The play and stop buttons work fine except the play action is noisy to my ear (I can't remember how quiet/noisy walkman used to be!) and the noisiness varies metronomically. This might be causing the wow I'm hearing on the tape. However, I only have one tape to test the unit at present (I will locate some more) and while I think I detect some wow it might be the tape (it is an old and low quality children's story recording). 4. I have ordered some replacement screws for the several that are missing but I can't locate a replacement perspex window for my broken one. I see that you can get a replacement for the WM-D6 but I cannot find anything online to replace what has to be the most common walkman window in existence! 5. The matt black paint on the case has been scraped off in a few places and I would like to touch it up but don't know what product is best to use. I have thoroughly enjoyed my summer project so far, and I would dearly love to get it looking and running as well as it did in the 80s so any advice and encouragement would be gratefully received.

  14. Since our house was first built 17 years ago, the theatre has had a 110” screen. At the time of the build we also had it decked out with cabinetry – it was the done thing. Back then, some were still installing 4:3 screens and a 110” 16x9 screen was close to the limit of what many projectors could achieve . While the screen size seemed perfect for 16x9 content, movies in Cinemascope ( most of them) were reduced by the letterbox bars that are inevitable in this type of setup. My aim with the screen upgrade was to keep the 16x9 images at what they previously were and gain some dramatic improvement with movies. I settled on a 140” Oz Theatre screen . The screen was just part of major upgrade which included painting all the walls and ceiling , upgraded electronics and the most amazing centre speaker. Centre Speaker is Dynaudio Evidence with RRP of $39K which I managed to buy secondhand. It is designed as floor standing centre speaker - I tried it with conventional stands but the factory designed approach gives the best results. Sound wise this thing is nothing short of incredible . Its resolution, soundstage, imaging and bass completely lifts the whole system. It blends in seamlessly with the rest of the system . The fronts are Aurum Cantus Grand Supremes . They also project a large soundstage and have excellent imaging . It is amazing what flock coating acoustic treatments can do to the WAF. Moving to a Dolby Atmos /DTS-X system meant 4 new ceiling speakers. I settled on Polk Audio 70-RT from USA ( cheaper than buying locally) To drive the ceiling speakers I thought I would try a low cost option direct from China from a company called Wentins. I saw these at the Ghanzhou AV show a few years ago and they sounded great so I thought it couldn't hurt trying one out. I bought a relatively cheap 5 channel @ 200 Watts per channel. These guys make a huge range and will custom make high power amps to your specs. I had been using the original NAD Master series M25 for the system previously but after trying out the Wentins, it was clear it was doing things nicer than the mighty M25. It had all the speed of the M25 but with a richer timbre and superior dynamics and bass. This got me thinking, if one of their cheapest amps sounded this good, how good would one of their better ones be? I decided to relegate the M25 to ceiling speaker duties, use the Wentins multichannel amp for surrounds and rear surrounds , and ordered hifi monoblocks direct from the factory. These amps are fully balanced and produce 225 WPC into 8 ohms and 450 into 4 ohms. ( all speakers are 4 ohms in this system). They were still well priced but being hifi amplifiers, they did not have a 12v trigger which I have since added. The L&W brand is part of the Wentins group. These allowed me to run balanced XLR cables to each amp and I'm more than happy with the result.

  19. suprised hardly gets a mention, good to sony bringing back some nice ES (elevated standard) gear back in their range looks like an interesting beastie to match the new high res sources, not much info about, but appears was launched at ifa last year, but some info in links below, http://stereonomono.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/sony-ta-1es.html http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?s=939ea4852f58be02ff6c76be6bb2e253&t=27776 ofcourse would be very foolish to expect sony australia to even be aware of the thing let alone any thought of bringing something like it in the country

  22. Hello All, you may remember me from selling my own hifi system to buy a house... well... I'm STILL trying and I'm still losing at Auction! Lack of stock and low interest rates means I'm struggling to stay on top. Anyway - enough about me. An extremely Internet unsavvy old Audiophile mate of mine has asked me to put his old gear up for sale. Anything that's not sold I get to KEEP! SWEET because this old school gear stirs memories in me of why I got into Hi-Fi in the first place. Please don't low ball because he's a pensioner and needs the money. make offers if you have a better idea of what it's worth but again - he's one poor dude! Item: Toshiba HD-XE1 HD DVD player - $200 JBL SVA1500 centre channel - $250 Panasonic DMR-EH65 DVD recorder $200 Behringer DSP-8024 Digital 24bit DUAL DSP - $300 Sony CDP-XB920E CD player - $200 Sony EZ727 Video Cassette Recorder - $50 Amcron DC300A x 2 power amplifiers can be bridged or Mono $500 the pair JBL speakers - No idea the models check the pics - $100 Tannoy K3838 - Studio Monitors - Dual Concentric baby! $300 Audio Video Selector - no idea the brand - $20 Location: Sydney Price: As listed above Item Condition: Check images - most was well cared for Reason for selling: as above - Pensioner needs cash Shipping: Yes, buyer pays for shipping - the speakers would be MUCH better off local pickup Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: He already sold his Linn Sondek - DAMN (I secretly wanted it) all items have remotes if applicable manuals and CD's or whatever. 23. I've been cleaning out the shed and I found the following. Item: One Sony CRT Projector VPH-1251QM Location: Bowen (but can deliver to anywhere (directly!) between Bowen and Brisbane if the prospective buyer is happy to wait until Mike Lenehans next GTG). Price: Somewhere between a couple of cartons and $500 (I have yet to plug it in and see if it works!) Item Condition: Has sat wrapped in plastic in the shed since I bought it in 2007, cosmetically it is fine, not so sure about operationally yet. Reason for selling: My interest in CRT projectors has passed, I am now more than happy with a big screen TV. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD, Bank Deposit Extra Info: Big, heavy and a finicky bugger to set up, or so I'm told. Don't jump in without doing your homework (as I did!) All four manuals shown in the last pic are included. Pictures: This puppy has been sitting wrapped up in the shed for about 6 years now, so my interest has sort of faded on the idea, but I am sure there is someone, somewhere out there that could use it and enjoy it. I'm really just trying to get it out of the shed without having to cart it off to the dump, so call it a bonus product of spring cleaning. Shipping on this thing will be a killer, but hey, if you're ready to pay for the courier then I'm ready to wrap it up! Naturally I'll try to fire it up later this afternoon and update this post accordingly with the results of the attempt. Cheers, Cafad.
  24. Item: Sony TA-P9000ES Analogue multi-channel pre-amp Location: Melbourne, inner west Price: $700 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Not being used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: Comes in original packaging, with manual and remote Pictures: see below Buy it because: 1) its a rare 5.1 channel analogue pre-amp. 2) its a fantastic sounding pre. 3) its the last pre-amp sony made and part of the last of the great ES line you loved back in the day. 4) you have a AV pre-pro/power set-up and want to step into the analogue audio world without breaking the bank (it has HT bypass). Great review and full specs: http://members.iinet.net.au/~rutlidge/TA-P9000ES.html Up for sale is my Sony TA-P9000ES analogue pre-amp. What's special about this is it is a multi-channel (5.1) analogue pre-amp, built for the high rez audio age (SACD/DVD-A). That means you can connect it directly to the analogue outputs of your SACD/DVD-A (or universal) player and bypass your AV Reciever for pure analogue sound (ie no re-conversion to digital). You can of course also run it as a normal stereo analogue pre as well. It also has 5.1 HT bypass input, so can be fully integrated in your existing AV pre-pro system. The TA-P9000ES was the last pre-amp sony made and was part of the last "true" flagship ES range in the tradition of the great gear they made through the 80's and 90's. As per Alan's excellent review above, the build quality is also of a bygone age, with overengineered construction, copper shielding and screws, quality components and carefully thought out design. This is an Australian model (not 120v import) and I hunted around a long time to find one in perfect condition that I was satisfied with. Sadly it has sat unused for the last few years, as time for 2ch audio listening has been cruelly whisked away by the arrival of small people. An impending move interstate has now prompted a clean-out of unused items, so here it (reluctantly) is!
  25. Item: Sony XA5400ES SACD player (120V), near new, Mint with box and accessories 2.5 year intl warranty Location: Melbourne SE Price: $1250, new price $2700 Item Condition: Mint condition with Original box and packaging as you would buy from the shop Reason for selling: Too many disc players, I have 6 ! between 3 systems...atleast one has to give ! Payment Method: Cash on pickup, Paypal (buyer pays paypal charges), bank deposit Extra Info: This is very well known Sony XA5400ES. It is extremely well reviewed and here in near new condition. I imported this from the US only months ago (sept last year) It came with a 3 year international mack warranty which I have paper work and receipt for (value $150) and I will let you register in your name. This is absolutely as new and in mint condition with all original packaging as you would buy from the shop. It not only has RCA and balanced XLR analog connectivity but also has HDMI connectivity allowing both 2ch stereo or multichannel playback. For local melbourne buyers(to encourage a local sale) you will not only be able to fully check this out on purchase so can buy in absolute confidence. But also I will give you for free the best Tortech step down transformer you can buy allowing hookup to our local power. (note bonus value over $100) as described below, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100W-ISOLATED-STEP-DOWN-TRANSFORMER-240-120V-STEPDOWN-POWER-VOLTAGE-CONVERTER-/251138682262?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item3a79082d96 For interstate buyers you are probably better off buying this step down separately yourself as would cost me too much to ship. Welcome to come check item out and pay cash on pick up alternatively can post anywhere in Australia at buyers cost (estimate $60) Pictures: As can hopefully see, its mint like new and comes with all accessories as would buy from the shop some further info below, http://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/cd-players-and-recorders/sony-scd-xa5400es-465933/review
