  2. Original owner, purchased new in December 2005 (have original purchase receipt). Meticulous owner with no scratches or marks of wear on case work or remote, and unit and remote function faultlessly. Only selling as I am upgrading to a dedicated CD transport for my separate outboard DAC. Includes remote, stock power cord, owners manual and I have the original packing materials with double box carton and foam inserts for safe transportation/delivery. 3. Hi all, I've been fortunate enough to acquire a somewhat dishevelled but perfectly functioning set of pregnant penguins. I'm in love. I'm powering them with a Denon POA-T2 120w p/c into 8 ohm power amp at the moment, and they seem pretty happy. However, I'm using an integrated amp's with pre-out as a pre-amp and phono stage, and I know my partner would greatly appreciate it if I could, umm, 'consolidate' the boxes sitting on our TV cabinet. I've got my eye on a used Musical Fidelity a3.2. I'm determined to find an amp with enough juice (and headroom) to give the DM6 what they need, but am unsure whether this pairing will do it. While their stats (nominal 8 ohm, 95db sensitivity, max 350w) don't suggest that they're desparate for juice, that seems to be the consensus of DM6 owners. MF a3.2 specs: Output power: 115Wpc into 8 ohms (20.6dBW), 185Wpc into 4 ohms (19.7dBW). Alternatively, I could save up a bit and go big - something like the MF M6si (220w into 8 ohms). Just not sure how big a difference it will make. The shift from a Rega Brio to the POA-T2 was HUGE. Can I expect the ceiling to get much higher? Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Mike and StereoNET's David Price discuss the new 2023 version of Musical Fidelity's full Class A, A1 amplifier – having given it exhaustive (and very heated) listening tests with an assortment of sources and speakers... Classic A1 owner David also compares it to the original version, as well as the recently reviewed Naim NAIT 50. With all this auditioning, the guys feel confident to proclaim that it gives stellar sound considering its modest price – it is true affordable audio esoterica. Watch to the end for a very special Easter Egg... a first for the guys. Each episode of Hi-Fi Riff features the guys' unedited, unexpurgated views about all manner of weird and wonderful hi-fi designs. Business executive Mike has a wealth of knowledge from previous hi-fi retail experience, and David has written about hi-fi for thirty years. Now Editor-in-Chief of StereoNET, he's picked up a few things along the way. So relax and enjoy some one-take hi-fi riffing – and please leave your comments below. The eighties-tastic title tune is called ‘UFO/Mike’s Jumper’, and used with the express permission of our old pal and rights holder Simon Lythe. 5. Further information: Item is in EXCELLENT condition. There is a very minor swirl mark on top of the unit (see picture) but hardly visible unless a light is shone on it. This is a classic integrated amplifier from the 1990s. Well built, simple, elegant and beautiful sounding amplifier. Those who are familiar with this amplifier would know how good it is. Below are some reviews on the unit: http://www.audioreview.com/product/amplification/integrated-amplifiers/musical-fidelity/b1.html https://alatest.com/reviews/receiver-amplifier-reviews/musical-fidelity-b1/po3-34770982,86/ Unfortunately I do not have the original box so local pick up is preferred. I am selling the unit as it is just sitting there unused and would love a good home. Plus I need the funds to upgrade other parts of my system. 6. Further information: Bought new in Nov 2018 for $14,995 (was retailing $17,000/pair back then), see receipt below (Instyle Home Theatre and HiFi, Sydney). In pristine condition, in smoke, child, pet-free home. Original invoice with balance of 3 year manufacture warranty, original double box, glove, velvet covers, power cords. Definately, suited to new MF M8 buyers. I have been an audiophile since 1999, and owned a number of Musical Fidelity amplifiers and pre amps ove that time. MF A5 integrated, MF 550K super chargers, MF M6 500i, M8 Pre amp, and now the M8 700m monos. Just a couple of things to note. As one goes up the MF line, the power and quality improves. However, they still retain their strong 'cold steel' sonic character. However, once past the M6 line, the M8s are different beast all together. They are like as if they are from a completely different ultra high end audio brand, with whisper quiet noise floor, sound staging, head space and room, fidelity, warmer richer organic mid range and tighter control in the bass, relentless power to drive any speaker available. Music appears to originate out of complete darkness, instruments have a timbre unique to their material construction, and a room's space opens into a deceptive infinite vast expanse, even at lower sound volumes. Delicacies are handled with utter care and finesse. That's approaching the powerhouse performance of the 1Kw Titan itself, and indeed measurements show that in action there's only about 1.25dB between them. For further details, get in touch with me. Happy to do a demo to interested persons. Will ship Australia-wide at buyers expense and choice of courier service. For further details about the M8 story: https://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/m8series/m8-story M8-700m - Overview The new M8-700m monoblock power amp is fully balanced, and offers a staggering 700 watts per monoblock, with stellar sound quality and technical performance. The M8-700m has extremely low distortion, typically 0.001% at 1 kHz. At 20 kHz distortion is still below 0.005%. Distortion at 50 kHz (a ridiculous and unreasonable measurement, but revealing of the total amplifier performance nonetheless) is 0.02%. At 100 kHz, it is about 0.06%. These extraordinary measurements, and the extremely low high-frequency distortion, are highly significant sonically. The noise ratio of the M8-700m is extremely low at -120 dB A-weighted. The M8-700m has huge power reserves, producing 700 watts RMS into 8 ohms and just on 1300 watts into 4 ohms. It is an absolute powerhouse. The power, low distortion and the extremely low noise contribute to its fabulous, effortless sound. Sound quality and design The M8-700m is extremely powerful and dynamic. The sound is sweet, clear and uncoloured. Dynamics are massive and are delivered with instantaneous speed, both starting and stopping. The M8s700m sound stage is huge, wide and deep. It creates large amounts of air and space, and is holographic in its presentation. Similar in size and design package to the M6s 500i, the M8-700m offers a compelling combination of fully balanced circuitry, extraordinary technical performance, exquisite sound, intelligent packaging and value for money makes a compelling case. M8-700m In Brief Fully balanced, monster power 700W per monoblock Staggering technical performance Huge peak current delivery Incredible load driving ability, will drive any loudspeaker with any cable Excellent design, he-man build quality Design + Build When we launched our limited-edition Titan power amplifier in back in 2008, its massive power and unique design required very large dimensions and an equally hefty price tag. Subsequent technical advances – plus immense customer interest – have inspired us to develop a more affordable, more conventional-looking successor of the Titan: the M8-700m. The M8-700m is a fully balanced monoblock power amplifier, which – as its model number suggests – packs 700 watts of power in its sleek black casing. That's 700 watts RMS into 8ohms; and about 1300 watts into 4ohms. That's approaching the powerhouse performance of the 1Kw Titan itself, and indeed measurements show that in action there's only about 1.25dB between them. Like its Titan forbear, the M8-700m is engineered for extremely low distortion – typically 0.001% at 1kHz; below 0.005% at 20kHz. Even at the ridiculous level of 50kHz, distortion is a mere 0.02%, creeping up to around 0.06% at 100kHz. They may be unreasonable figures, but they prove a point: the M8s-700m has significantly less distortion than rival measurements. Again like the Titan, the M8-700m is a low-noise power amplifier, with a minimal noise ratio of -120dB A-weighted. The combination of the huge power reserves, low distortion and low noise contribute to the M8-700m's extraordinary, effortless performance. It sounds almost undistinguishable from the Titan, displaying the same ability to deliver anything from massive dynamics to delicate detail with incredible speed and precision. Whatever style of music you want to listen to, the M8-700m serves it up in a spacious soundstage rivalled only by the Titan - or a live musical performance. Its power and balance means the M8-700m can drive just about any speaker you choose, backed by flexible connectivity options. Twin sets of speaker terminals make bi-wiring simple, and the M8s-700m's outputs can be 'daisy chained' to bi-amp suitable speakers. It is, of course, the perfect partner – visually and sonically – for our M8 pre-amp. Reception for the new M8-700m has been highly enthusiastic. Many press reports have highlighted its more room and wallet-friendly form, while What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision dubbed it the "son of Titan". M8-700m - Specifications Performance Power output: 700 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms (28 dBW) THD(+ noise): <0.005% typical Signal to Noise Ratio: >120dB Frequency Response: +0, –1dB, 10Hz to 80kHz Inputs 2x RCA Phono Line Level 1x Line level XLR Balanced 1x Trigger input 3.5mm (1/8”) mono jack ±4.5 to ±15V DC General Dimensions - WxHxD (mm): 440 x 160 x 460 Weight (unpacked / packed): 30 kg / 35.5 kg Sample YouTube Clips below with the MF M8 700m working. Apologies about the artifact microphone hiss. Absolutely, no noise hiss heard before the system. However, some idea of control, finesse and ambience is heard in the clips.

  13. Item: Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista pre-amplifier Location: Melbourne, Inner North Price: Price drop to $1125 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Different direction Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, EFT Extra Info: For sale is my example of the classic Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista pre-amplifier. It's a terrific performer, and I'll be sad to see it go. Much is known about the MF shift into nuvistors in the late-1990s and beyond, but for completeness... The pre-amp has 5 line-level inputs, and a phono board (MM). Plus, it's own power supply. One of only 500 made, I brought it in from the UK, this one carries the number 243. Sadly, this one has no remote, or original packaging. It has a couple of scratches on the body of the power supply (see picture). The pre-amp unit is in very good cosmetic condition. AQ input covers not included in the sale. About the MF Nu-Vista pre... What is the nuvistor..? "(It) was/is the missing link between valves and trannies, a 'sub-miniature triode' that's all-tube, only teensy-weensy. Like the up to the first joint of your little finger. And it is a tube, not a transistor, only one encased in metal. The 6CW4 nuvistor triode is roughly equivalent to a Lilliputian ECC88, the '88 being one of the most highly regarded pre-amp tubes in use today. Now, imagine if you could enjoy the bliss of an ECC88 without the size, the fragility, the heat - you know, all of the stuff which transistors offer while throwing away the sound." (Home Theatre Review: https://hometheaterreview.com/musical-fidelity-nu-vista-preamp-reviewed/) Of the sound, the same reviewer said: "At the risk of upsetting those who think nuvistors are crap (and a couple of my valve-lovin' heroes do think that nuvistors horrible), I have to say that I've never heard a more harmonious blending of warmth detail, silent running richness, seemingly unlimited dynamic capabilities total control. I reverted to favourite torture tests like Willy DeVIlle's 'Assassin Of Love', B.B. King's take of 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore', Jeff Beck's 'Ain't Superstitious' and Big Daddy's 'With A Little Help From My Friends' to hear if there really was more on offer. And sure enough, I was able to listen the performances and explore their sonic spaces as if using a 3-D computer sim with perfect 'virtual reality'. Think of one of those museum 'tours' on CD-ROM, or some state-of-the-art computer game. Only this is a sonic world not limited by a 19in screen. But the sound! Life-like vocals with all of those little clues: the sound of tongue touching teeth, breathiness, smooth 'S' sounds. Bass with just the right resonance, yet no overhang. Acoustic guitars with woody ambience. Brass with punch and sparkle. But most of all, a sense of effortlessness which allows music to flow, yet with enough control to keep it in check...as required. The Nu-Vista is, if you'll forgive this rather sordid analogy, both your slave and your dominatrix..." Pictures:
  14. Item: Musical Fidelity A1 Class A Amplifier Location: Williamstown, Victoria Price: $500 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Yes this is a Musical Fidelity A1... no not the groundbreaking, but unreliable version from the 80's. This is the re-release from about 10 years ago. Still 'Class A'. Still sweet. No longer unreliable. No volume pots to turn crackly after a few years, no excessive and unbearable heat... yes I did have MF amps from that early period, and I had a love/hate relationship with them. This amp is an updated version of that clssic but unreliable original, but this amp is all about love... When I listen to the A1, I am completely blown away by it. It has a sweet sound which seems to make everything sound great. Whilst listening to the A1, its ability to project and create musical illusion is so strong that I get carried away with the music. This would be terrific for someone who is setting up a system in a smaller lounge, study or for a second system - alternatively use with very efficient speakers. The Phono stage is a corker - absolutely flattering of everything you play through it. The DAC - eh ok if you're desperate. Otherwise everything about this amp make it a terrific little amp. Its in LIKE NEW condition, comes with remote and instructions. Pictures:
  15. Item: For Sale: Musical Fidelity X-A2 Integrated Amplifier, comes with separate power supply and instructions, works perfectly and just gave it a run for a few hours prior to offering it for sale, it has sat in a box for a few years unused and as I'm returning to the UK soon, I'm selling all my equipment... Its condition is perfect and it works great, these things are beautifully made and it has a real quality feel when you use it... Has great reviews and people around the world love MF equipment especially the quirky but stylish look of the X series, it certainly doesn't disappoint, the X-A2 have more than enough power on tap and it has a really punchy sound, wont have any issues driving most speakers.... I also have the matching MF X-Ray CD player to go with the X-A2 that is in great working condition that I'm selling for $450, but happy to do a little bit of a deal for them both together.... 16. Item: Musical Fidelity M1 DAC (Silver) Location: Melbourne Inner Nth Price: $300 Firm, plus $30 for cable Item Condition: 8/10 Reason for selling: Rationalising 2nd system Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Only Extra Info: Bought this Dac in February from an esteemd SNA'er who looks after his gear. Note this is the later updated version that accepts up to 24/96 via usb. I have seen the earlier version (only up to 48khz via usb) go for more $$ here. This is a great sounding DAC, everything upsampled to 192khz, and was a huge step up from my earlier unit. I used as a dac for hi-res PC files via SPDIF which accepted up to 192khz files, as well as with a Primare DP via AES. I have set condition at 8/10 on account of a small mark on the front which I only noticed after I checked the pics. This will probably wipe off with the right cleaning solution. I will also throw in a Aurealis 110 Ohm AES/EBU Digital Cable with Vampire XLRs purchased new ($RRP around $70 shipped) from Aurealis Audio for $30. No box for dac. Inputs 1x XLR AES balanced digital input 1x RCA coaxial connector SPDIF 32-192 kbps (16-24 bit stereo PCM) 1x TOSLINK optical connector 32-96 kbps (16-24 bit stereo PCM) 1x USB type ‘B’ connector for computer/PDA - 16-24 bits, 32-96 kbps (Determined by source file/computer settings) Pictures:
