  7. Hi All I'll introduce myself hear first post. I'm Mark and from Perth Western Australia I do like watching movies and youtube music videos. I am building a house and its at roof cover stage and I'm kicking myself hard because if i'd discovered this forum or the shop that sells the equipment I would of made the home theater bigger; enough for 2rows etc.... now I am dreaming. Anyway I have been reading this forum, visiting shops and reading product reviews. I'm lost and confused... .......but I've not given up I still want a kick-ass ground shaking theater room but I'm a n00b so I turn to you guys as you seem very enthusiastic, with heaps of experience and wise knowledge, which I would love to copy and paste from your brain to mine by a USB I have uploaded and image of my small room that's going to be my theater and the 2 quotes. Yes i know double doorssssss. at least I put 2 conduits in and extra power at the back but my wife wants to cover the hole room with curtains yes 360 degrees and I got thick carpets too. so I am young and don't own any furniture nor equipment so I went to west coast HIFI and got 2 quotes from them and I get the feeling of disappointment. Today I've taken a day off work to go window shopping, there isn't many places in Perth that do Home Theater, theirs only west coast HIFI, surround sounds and Douglas hifi, oh and Frank Prowse HiFI. I have not looked into online or international first I need to know what I need. My room is 4430 wide so nice 4 seat leather couch will go in. but 3890 long bit close to screen Bulkhead (wall to 700in all way round) 28c or 2400 high center of ceiling is 31c or 2700 high Bow i did use this website with the 2 different high i cant work out if i got a good room. Screen size I will be sitting about 3500 away I am counting about 400mm for the recliners space. Some say I could get away with 4K Hisense 75" UHD LED LCD 100Hz 3D Smart TV for $4500 others recommend a projector and 100'' size max Now i love B&W speakers especially the cm10 s2 one shop today said that's over kill I love bass,. in my car i have a nice 10'' that made me sick at the start now I feel its losing power or I'm getting deaf. In my opinion the two quote I got are; over my budget, I wonder if I could save somewhere on parts, and I did not like the Yamaha speaker did not cut it for me. The sales man has also added in the quote krix subwoofer because the psb subwoofer was not loud enough for me the krix did make the room shake i think the panasonic DMR-BWT945GL would be great if i went for projector that unit would be my smart hub. Therefore my question is, what would recommend for me. 5.1 or 5.2 ? TV or Projector ? speaker recommendation ( floor or bookshelf on stands ?) (subs I do like if I feel the sound or vibration or neighbors complaining ) ? ( rear in ceiling or ? ) Yamaha power and pre or normal av receiver ? bluray player do i need to be worried about them did i miss any questions ? feel free to add model numbers if you recommending I will appreciate everything I am give, as now I'm in a dilemma.

  9. Item: KEF Reference CI5160RL-THX Speakers (3x Speakers, suit LCR) Quantity: 3x Speakers Location: Melbourne Price: $8,500 (RRP $15,000) Item Condition: USED but like new. 2 years old. Reason for selling: Going in another direction, going to build my own speakers. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash on pick up Extra Info: These speakers will look great in modern living room. Their beauty is wasted behind the screen. Performance wise they will pass any test. Truly excellent condition. Always been adequately powered with a 200w Rotel class AB amplifer. Unfortunately I have sprayed the grilles black but not hard to change again if needed. I would leave them off if you can. You can have the boxes I made for them too if you want till you get your room sorted and atleast then you can still have a listen. Overall I'm hoping I dont regret selling them. They sound great and have brought many movie sound tracks to life when other systems have not. Come test them out before you buy, but only for serious buyers, sorry. Pictures: Sorry I dont have any other pictures on my phone after I got the new phone. If interested I will certainly take the projector screen off and take some new photos. 11. Further information: I bought this Emotiva XPA 5 Gen 1 amp several years ago for my multi channel system which was retired years ago. Great amp in working order - see comment below. This five channel amp provides 200 watts @ 8 0hms and 300 watts @ 4 ohms all channel driven. Note: one of the RCA inputs is broken and needs to be replaced should single ended inputs be used. I've listed the price to reflect this. Emotiva is able to supply replacement RCA plugs or aftermarket RCA jacks can be fitted. All XLR inputs are fine. Photos:

  14. (I just try this in this section of the forum too. I don't know where it will fit in the best.) I just recently started experimenting with JRiver doing all the audio decoding for movies instead of using bit stream. This will open up the possibilities for using convolution filters/room corrections. My reciever can't do any room corrections/convolution filters and doesn't allow me to set the speaker distance for induvidual codecs, unlike the speaker size and level settings, which I can set for induvidual formats. So I cannot bypass the reciever's dsp in total for some A/B testing. Does anyone have any experience with using DSP equalizer or convolution filters in JRiver. My firts experiment will be to find out if I can make the center speaker less localized or virtual lift it to the same height as my L+R speakers. It is sitting lower and I am able to pick it up. I would like to have it blend in more with the L+R speakers. The other thing is, does anyone know about HDMI drivers that bypasses the Windows Audio Management. I am currently using a Nvidia GeForce WASAPI audio driver.

  16. Item: Emotiva XMC-1 Gen 2 Home Theatre AV PREAMP/PROCESSOR (HT receiver but with no amps) Location: Glen Waverley, Victoria Item condition description: BRAND NEW SEALED BOX Price and price conditions: $2995 Usual Price: $3999 http://www.lifestylestore.com.au/emotiva-xmc-1-generation-2-7-2-a-v-preamplifier-processor.html Reason for selling: In between jobs. Need money for house repayments. Payment Methods: Paypal (add 3%), Cash - Pickup, Bank Transfer. Extra info: I have not opened it since I bought this direct from Emotiva. Between the time I bought it up to the time it arrived, I had an enforced change in jobs and I am tight on funds. Make no mistake, this is my dream AV PREAMP/PROCESSOR with an unequaled dirac le auto tune optimizer for it's price range and I will buy this again once I am not so tight financially. Keep in mind this unit is without any amplification (which will usually aid in sound quality) and will require you to have a power amp to pair it with. If you want I can also upload a picture of the shipping box. It's still sealed inside.
  17. Not sure this has posted elsewhere . But I have to say this takes the cake. http://www.avsforum.com/ht-of-the-month-the-hahn-theater/
  18. Hi there guys. I need some help with choosing the right components for my home theater system. 5.4 My system at this stage is: Receiver Onkyo tx-sr876, Samsung Bluray player, Power amp is Emotiva xpa-5 5 channel, speakers are Paradigm Studio v4 60's, 40's and CC690 center, 4 x 10'' jensen subs, 110'' screen and Sony VPL HW50ES projector. My problem is: I would like to eliminate my Onkyo receiver and the crappy samsung blue ray player. (weakest links in my system) Ive been looking into getting the Emotiva umc-200 7.1 pre/pro and the new oppo bdp103 or bdp105 player. Im after the best possible sound and picture quality i can possibly get out of my system (without spending heaps of $$). Also do i actually need the Emotiva pre/pro, apparently the oppo bdp105 can remove the need for a pre/pro, would this be correct in my setup? Or would having the Emotiva pre/pro be more beneficial to my sound quality? I need the help from experienced audioheads here as im not up to speed with connectivity between certain components (im still learning the ins and outs of modern components, and loving it) : ) Any advice will be appreciated, thanks Heath.
  19. Hi, I’ve recently upgraded my 5.1 home theater setup & keen to hear tips/opinions on my receiver/speakers & what could be improved or changed to better match. Im always on the lookout for better gear. Thanks in advance. My current setup: Receiver: Marantz slim NR1510 Fronts: B&W 685 (s1) Center: Polk CS20 (quite a beast, looking at picking up a B&W LCR60 S3 soon instead, perhaps will match better too) Sub: Jamo SUB210. kept the jamo as it does an ok job. Surrounds: Polk S10
  20. G'day, I'm looking to pickup a subwoofer for my studio (where I work, so listen to music in the day) that is also my home theatre by night. The room is a separate dwelling that's 3.77m x 3.77m (22 feet) with vaulted ceilings, I think it's about 4500 cubic feet (maybe a bit more?). The room is bright, wood polished floor boards, wood vaulted ceiling, 35% Windows on walls. Current setup I have Goldenear Triton 2's (inbuilt powered subs) and their Super Center XXL up front with some older bookshelf speakers for surrounds being powered by a Marantz SR6010. I have no separate sub at the moment. So I'm on the lookout for a sub that will do a great job for movies and games (music is already pretty sweet with the Tritons up front, they do provide a surprising amount of LFE during movies too but looking for more and lower response). I'm thinking at once I have the sub I'll run An LFE cable to the sub and split the second sub out on the amp to the LFE ports on the Tritons (will see how that sounds) So I'm thinking a beast of a ported sub would be best. Looking for a great deal and I can spend up to about $2k....will consider New, demo or used happy to organise shipping from anywhere to Byron Bay... Have considered something like a pair of second hand SVS PB 2000s (or would 1 actually be enough for my room?) or 1 SVS Ultra PB13... Thoughts? Have a nice sub collecting dust?
  21. Hi All, Asking for a friend who has a large media room and is looking to upgrade his home theater sound system. Following are some of the speakers he has shortlisted, I wanted to get some advice from the wider community here regarding the best gear Pioneer SP FS52 Klipsch RF 260F Q Acoustics 3050 Elac Debut F5 and F6 Tannoy Revolution XT6F Paradigm monitor 7 and 9 budget is around 2.5k AUD. Thanks in advance for the advice, hoping to hear back from the experts here.
  22. Hi everyone, I am from Melbourne. I am new here and has a question. I has a small room 4m x 4m and has a setup 7.1 surround speakers with projector benq. Ceiling is 2.8m high. Speakers are yamaha and i am not very happy with the sound, the effect does not sound like in a cinema. I remeber it is YHT896AUB. The 2 rear speakers very much on top of the viewing lounge so i can convert settings to 5.2.1 atmos. Also I can move the chair bit further back when i watch movie. As it will block the front door. What would you suggest me for a good setup home theater 5.2.1 atmos but not overpower, clear sound from surround speakers, good center speaker and sub woofer. Would like to buy preown speakers which still in good conditions. My budget is around $2000 including receiver. I tested my friend setup with paradigm series 6 and denon receiver atmos. They sound good but not sure if there is other options to suit my budget and deliver good result. Many thanks for your advice. James
