Hi, New to this forum, so hello to you all. Just bought a little turntable and can't see any I D other than the Encel tag at front. It had the usual tape residue on the lid, but cleaned up well with alcohol and light polish. It has a Garrard SP 25 MK iv table. I just cleaned it all up and works great. Hope someone can I D model from photos. Thank you. (Sorry for poor quality photos).
Hi All (xpost from VinylEngine) I've just picked up a beautiful example of a classic Australian turntable made by HIFI icon, Alex Encel. It has M.G. 17/4/1974 on a small white sticker on the bottom. The Encel is in a heavy Veneer Plinth, with a JH Reproducers deck and a Grace G840F Tonearm, with a Grace F8L cart and stylus. I've ordered a new belt for it from ebay, and given it a clean. It sounds ok with me manually spinning the test record, so the cart works to some extent and needle has about a 1.2mm height, doesn't look super sharp, but sill has a point. I'm going to setup the arm as per the manual, and align the cart with the stupid protractor. I've got the speed disc and a light bulb, but I don't think there's any way to adjust the speed other than machining a spindle. So questions are: -Does any one have any experience with a table like this? I haven't found a single pic on the net that looks exactly like it? -Are there any ways to adjust the speed of a JH deck? I've read they run a little fast to compensate for the dustbug? -How do I evaluate the cart and needle to see if they are still fully functional? -How much should I pay for a replacement F8L or F8V needle? Thanks in advance for anyone who has time for a look
It will be a sad day in January 2014 when Encel Stereo close shop. Whilst I shop infrequently at hifi stores, I've always returned to this iconic store to replace or expand my system with some trusty Rotel equipment. The staff there certainly knew their kit and gave great advice on mixing up units. I still have my Polk Audio floor speakers from their Moonee Ponds store. http://www.channelnews.com.au/business/ULPVACWL-encel-stereo-to-close.aspx
