  1. Item: Usher 718DMD (Tiny Dancer) Standmount Speakers Location: Canberra Price: SOLD Item Condition: Physically 8/10 but see description below Reason for selling: Moving overseas Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Transfer Extra Info: At the time of purchase these were Usher's top standmount speakers. They retailed for $3K. Recently they have been replaced by the Usher Dancer Mini-X speakers, which retail for $3500. These are by far the best standmount speakers I have owned, and are, IMO, significantly ahead of ProAc, Paradigm, PSB, B&W etc for the same kind of money. They are also beautiful looking; the finish is outstanding. This pair were purchased new by me as the BE version. They have been upgraded to the DMD version, which is a $700 upgrade (I didn't pay this, I swapped tweeters with an owner of the DMD version (here on SN) who preferred the more forgiving BE tweeters). Physically, they are in great condition, bar a chip in the paint at the back bottom corner (you'd never see this from the front). I've included an image of the chip in the photos. Why am I selling them so cheap? Well, several reasons. Firstly, I stupidly disposed of the boxes so they are pick up only. They are seriously heavy speakers (for the size) and have a fantastic finish. I don't want to risk shipping them in a wrong boxes. Secondly, I'm moving overseas in three weeks, so I need to sell them before then. And thirdly (and perhaps most importantly), I possibly damaged the left tweeter yesterday when, after listening to a very quietly recorded classical track, I booted into a new installation of Linux without remembering to turn the volume down. This resulted in the stupid default start-up sounds playing at close to full volume. I've been giving them a good listen since then, and think that there might be slight damage to the left tweeter. I thought it was sounding slightly distorted, but now I'm not sure. I can't seem to get the it to distort in any reliable way, so perhaps it was just the track I was listening to. In any case I don't want to sell them under false pretences, so I've priced them so that if there is any issue, the tweeter can be replaced and the total price will still be exceptionally good. (I contacted an Usher dealer last night and he said he had a replacement tweeter he could sell for $250 -- I'll pass the details on to whoever purchases the speakers and they can decide whether they think the tweeter needs replacing or not). Apart from the stupid mistake last night, the speakers have always been well looked after, and have been driven with quality amplification. Here are a few reviews: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/usher2/tinydancer.html http://www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/508ush/ http://www.soundandvision.com/content/usher-be-718-speaker-system Pictures: I took one of these photos before I upgraded the tweeter, so in one image the BE tweeter is shown. Please ignore this, the tweeters are the DMD tweeters as shown in the other front-side image.
  2. I am new to the world of speakers and need some help in finding a nice 2.0 system. All my audio gear has been focused on my headphone systems so I am going to need either active speakers or a small(ish) amp as well. The room these speakers are going into is 3.0 x 3.3m and this is in a share house so I would prefer to avoid a subwoofer. The speakers I currently have are Swan M200 MkIII, but they are not as high fidelity as I would like. Budget: $2,000 - 3,000 incl. amp....but I if there is something worth reaching for let me know. I guess I have a slight preference for active speakers just because it means I don't need to find more space for another amp, but other than that I guess I would prefer them to sit on top of my desk although I could possibly fit speaker stands/narrow floorstanders in a pinch. Because I am wanting to avoid a sub I would prefer to have a frequency response that is as wide as possible (within reason). I also prefer timber finishes on speakers....an aesthetics thing . I listen to an extremely broad range of music, but to help narrow things let's say the main ones are classical, orchestral, jazz and electronic. I am not overly concerned about creating an accurate soundstage and I am not interested in room treatments. The main points are clarity and musicallity. I would prefer that the instruments sound more "real" (in particular the piano) rather than having wide soundstaging or pinpoint imaging and I like a touch of warmth in the sound. I will be using them with my Eximus DP1 DAC and If I can buy them within Australia that would be preferred (second hand is ok). On a side note, if these speakers were also capable of sounding halfway decent in a large room (say 4.0 x 5.0m) that would be a nice bonus. My apologies if this is a little vague, please ask me to clarify anything I have missed. Thanks in advance. EDIT: 1 - Forget the woodgrain 2 - Let's stick with Active monitors 3 - To clarify "warm sounding", I just want speakers that deliver engaging music. I do not want anaemic, analytical sound. These are not for mixing.
  3. Item: Opera Callas Bookshelf Speakers Location: Sydney CBD Price: $3500 Item Condition: Mint Reason for selling: Floorstanders Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, bank deposit - Can post - have boxes - totally mint! Extra Info: About 1 years old For sale is a mint set of Italian Hand Made Opera Callas bookshelf speakers. They retail for $6,500 here in Aus and are truly amazing for their size http://www.sydneyhificastlehill.com.au/prod156.htm (note price on site excludes GST). They really are one of the best bookshelf speakers I've owned since my old Elac 602's around 10 years ago. These speakers have so much detail, much like an old pair of Sonus Faber guarneri speakers. Remember the old ones with the sexy first order Crossover? Well these have that same smooth lilac velvet sound that seems to sound best with some tubes. I also had really good results from these speakers from my old ME75 amplifier. These speakers just make things listenable; I'd mention more typical Italian designed buzz words but honestly - the speakers 'speak' for themselves. Pictures: See below
  4. Great Dynaudio Excite X12 bookshelf speakers in gorgeous Cherry finish. Complete with stands and 20 metres+ of cable each. Slight scratch on side of one of speakers (see photo) Pickup from Neutral Bay, NSW $1,100
  5. Item: Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor (RRP: $5999) Location: Adelaide (Will post interstate in original packaging at buyers cost) Price: $3300 Item Condition: 8/10 - Fantastic condition with only a couple of faint marks around the handmade housing if you look very hard. Drivers are mint. Great working order Reason for selling: Funding major upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - EFT, COD, Paypal (buyer to cover PayPal fees) Extra Info: These speakers have amazing clarity and surprising bass. They will image beautifully when driven with good gear. Original manufacturers stands were a bit full on for me, so I purchased Lovan isolated stands which are much more elegant - I am happy to do a deal on these as well. See http://www.sumikoaudio.net/sonus/prod_cremonaauditor.htm#spec for technical details. Plenty of glowing reviews going around: http://www.audioreview.com/cat/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/sonus-faber/cremona-auditor/prd_327880_1594crx.aspx and http://www.audioaficionado.org/sonus-faber/909-sonus-faber-cremona-auditors-review-reprint.html Pictures: See below

Item: Dynaudio Audience 42 (Cherry Wood) with Dynaudio Stands Location: Brisbane Metro Price: $1,000 obo for speakers and stands Item Condition: Near Perfect Reason for selling: Don't use Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Great little speakers. They’re seven or eight years old but have had practically no use. I have the original box and packaging. The stands are currently filled with lead shot and sand. I don't know how much they weigh but I can barely move them! The stands include spikes as well as rubber feet. I’d be happy to ship them (the speakers are no problem) but we would need to find a viable option for the stands Pictures: Sorry for the lousy photos

  9. Item: Kudos Cardea C1 standmount speakers Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $999 pickup or buyer pays postage Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Making some space Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: The C1 are Kudos' entry-level standmount speaker, designed by ex-Neat employee Derek Gilligan. They employ SEAS bass drivers and the highly regarded SEAS Excel 25mm fabric dome tweeters, housed in a solid cabinet (and I mean it, it's thick and heavy). It's a simple design where looks are regarded, but I personally think that simple is elegant. In terms of sound, I'd say they're some of the most open sounding speakers I've heard - "sunshine" is the best word I can think of to sum these up. There are no traces of darkness or congestion; rather they project a wonderful sense of space and air. They have ample bass too which you'd expect from larger standmounts such as these. The (very positive) reviews linked below will give you a more in-depth impression of what these sound like. Here's some more recent thoughts: These speakers retail for over $2200AUD in Europe. They will come packed in their original box with grilles etc. Shipping to Australia will be approximately $30-50 via insured courier. 11. Hello SNA members. I'm selling my beloved Rega Brio 3 amplifier and Sonus Faber Toy Monitors. (For Sale in another posting) This is a great combination, and have had much pleasure from it. Beautiful silky sound, but also, you can hear the midrange clearly and superb imaging. I'm selling these items as I only have a small room, and I need the available space for my graphic design setup, so I'm keeping my turntable and phono pre-amp and hooking up a headphone setup. This sale will fund it! I would love to keep this combo, But other needs come first! I've got all the original receipts. I've had the amp since early 2011 I will deliver for free to anyone in metropolitan Melbourne, Interstaters can pay, and organise there own shipping, I have all the original boxes, and it will be shipped in these. You bear all the responsibility for the condition of the goods when they arrive. I look after my equipment, and both items work faultlessly. * Item: Rega Brio 3 (bought in early 2011) * Location: Kilsyth South, Victoria * Condition: Immaculate, Used * Price and price conditions: $450 * Reason for selling Downsizing to a headphone setup * Payment Methods: Paypal, Direct Debit, Cash on pickup

  13. Item: Lenehan ML1 (metallic purple) Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $1300 pickup or buyer pays postage Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Clearout Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: These need no introduction. They were bought off R&R a month ago, used briefly and cleaned up nicely for the photo shoot. These will ship in their original box (no flight cases). Pics:
  14. Item: Harbeth Super HL5 30th Anniversary Edition (Rosewood premium finish) PLUS Matching Skylan 18†Speaker stands Price: $old as a package (OR $old for the speakers and $old for the stands) Item Condition: As New. In Pristine/Perfect condition with all original packaging and documentation Location: Sydney (Inner West) Reason for selling: Moved to Active Setup with EQ to address significant room issues + plans to build dedicated music room have now been shelved Payment Method: Local Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank transfer. Extra Info: I purchased these new in June 2011 after hearing them at another member’s place and falling in love with the sound. The Skylans were purchased new in August 2011, assembled and then filled with about 20kg of rice (medium grain). The rice will be included, but no claims as their current edibility. The SHL5’s are magic and to my ears the absolute bees knees within Harbeth’s current range, with an effortless and majestic sense of scale that most smaller monitors cannot quite achieve, no matter how sorted. The proviso is that they need space in order to breathe (Caveat: have heard all bar the 40.1’s). They unfortunately did not work as well in my small room. They have been carefully boxed up and stored in the guest bedroom since January this year. (Original plan was to renovate and build a dedicated music room but those plans have now been canned.) I have just taken them out of the box to take these photos here and as you can see, they are in perfect condition, probably hardly run-in. The Harbeths and Skylans partner perfectly and are the recommended solution by Harbeth's Alan Shaw. I highly recommend this pairing and would much prefer to sell them together as a package. Review Link: http://app.audiogon.com/listings/full-range-harbeth-shl5-best-harbeth-for-classical-and-rock-2012-10-30-speakers-80109 Note: Pick up preferred. I can however help arrange couriers for Interstate buyers at cost. Pictures:
  15. All, So I took my barely used B&W 686's out of surround duties and set them up with a Rotel RA-04SE Integrated to perform 2 channel duties in another room. At last I have been able to give them a proper listen, and while they are Ok, they are bit too warm for my liking. Its not the amp, as I auditioned it with a couple of other speakers and it performed well with the better B&W Bookshelf (685) and Klipsch floorstander. I like detail and soundstage - thats why I LOVE listening to my Ascension Summoner floorstanders. So, I am going to look around for a replacement for this wee bookshelf. Any recommendations for auditioning? Willing to spend up to $800. I hear the Ushers and Mordaunt Short are worth a look? I did audition the B&W 685, and loved the sound. That would be my default choice, but perhaps I can get equivalent performance cheaper? Ideally, I would still like to have a bookshelf for the acceptance factor. Cheers, Neil PS - Anyone want to buy a pair of barely used B&W 686s? I'll be putting an EOI up soon. PM me if interested.
  16. Item: John Blue JB4 Mk2 Bookshelf Speakers with Jarrah stands. Location: Melbourne, Vic - Coburg to be exact. Item condition: Speakers as new, no marks, well looked after - same for the stands. Price: $600 the lot - includes 8 x Vibrapods to decouple the speakers from the stands. Reason for selling: No longer required. Payment Methods: Paypal, Cash on Delivery - pickup only. Extra Info: These JB4's are the mark 2 versions, they're a well known single driver speaker. Come around for a demo. The Jarrah stands are custom made, they have rubber feet and cable groves with retainers. May be persuaded to split if I have local buyers for both Pictures:
  17. During the show I sneaked into the Pymble HIFI room and briefly listened to half a tune of acoustic guitar played by the only stand-mount from Legacy. The volume level was low but the mid and highs were energetic and crisp. Unfortunately they didn't play any music with full bass, no idea how good it is at full range. But from what I've heard alone, impressive enough for a pair of 2K bookshelves. The built seemed quite solid. Ribbon tweeter looks like Elac Jet? No much reviews online though, will go for a dedicated audition at Pymble hifi when next time deciding upgrading boxes.

  19. Hi all. I finally joined stereo.net.au and just had an observation and partly a question if you can decipher my puzzle of thoughts. I bought a pair of Usher s-520s a week or so ago and have been listening to music and some movies and tv shows through pc. I am missing some of the midrange richness I get from my shure se535 (very mid forward) and HE-500s (same source). I figured the sound signature would be different but I am finding that I am missing some of that richness. I am getting new cables and an SVS SB12 sub for the lower end, so I am not immediately looking to change the speakers, as I am excited to see how these additions change my experience. Other than that these are fantastic for the price. I will listen longer of course and make up my mind eventually but for now what are people's opinions? Is there another reasonably priced speaker which has all of the Usher's good attributes with perhaps a tad more richness. Wondering what other people's opinions were - does the sound signature will change over time. I suppose I will get used to the sound as it is different and still nice (I'm sure it will be sweeter with the sub coming next week). Btw Deep Hz Audio is a fantastic company to deal with after calling around a few companies down South. But still looking for opinions.
  20. Item: ATC SCM7 in cherry Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $800 pickup or buyer pays postage Item Condition: Very good - some minor marks on the corners Reason for selling: Dynaudio Focus 110 incoming Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: **These are now definitely for sale** The SCM7's are the smallest speaker in ATC's lineup. They might be tiddlers, but weigh (by far) the most out of any speakers I've owned (7kg each); the magnets must be huge! In terms of sound, these speakers are very open and transparent. They are the most "real" sounding speakers I have ever heard - zero colouration. Being sealed boxes, they don't produce as much bass as some of the ported speakers in this category, but what bass you do get is amazingly tight and punchy. They really come to life with 100+ watts of amplification. They will come packaged in the original box. Pics:
  21. Item: Leben CS300 Location: Melbounre CBD Price: $1500 firm (+ Shipping / free pickup) Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank transfer Extra Info: Includes Manual + packaging Pictures: Purchased this amp from SNA member Danter a few months ago - comes loaded with his selection of Genelex Gold Lion EL84 power tubes and Amperex Bugle Boy 12AX7 pre amp tubes. This combo sounds amazing. Originally bought from Andrew at Aslan Acoustics by an SNAer, making it an official Australian unit with 240V transformer. I have been using this amp as a head phone amp for my LCD-2's but am now looking to upgrade to the LCD-3's - and a new amp is also on the horizon If someone is interested in buying a pair of LCD-2's as well please send me a PM with an offer.. There is a small scratch on one of the panels - please see pics. Also there is some crackle when the bass knob is moved to the highest setting - however it does not crackle once selected so this does not affect performance (not sure if anyone would want that much bass boost anyway Otherwise there is no noise or crackle from the amp - it sounds great. Shipping via courier will be $30 or pickup from Melbourne CBD (COD). Payment by direct deposit is fine - for paypal please add 3% - AUD of course. review Leben info Also I have some KEF speakers that have still not sold from a previous listing - if anyone is keen to make me an offer, please see below Item: KEF XQ20 - Mahogany finish Location: Melbounre CBD Price: $1300 NEGOTIABLE (+ Shipping / free pickup) Item Condition: Very good / 3 years Aus warranty remaining Reason for selling: Upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank transfer Extra Info: Includes Manual + packaging Pictures: Purchased from Eastwood Hi-fi 11/9/2010 - around 3 years left on the warranty. 23. Hi guys I'm a newbie based in Sydney & am looking for speaker advice - a pair of decent 2ch speakers are all that I need to complete my budget audiophile setup. Please look over the following components I already have + a few other details about the room & music - then recommend a few speakers for a budget up to approx $1000, thanks. Wav, flac or 320k music ethernet streamed from PC to Logitech Squeezebox Touch & then via coax to Motu Ultralite MkIII audio interface (I'm using as a DAC) & then via balanced XLR signal into Anthem 225 integrated amp. Mono rca signal from amp into Richter sub (no model number written on it but 12" cone & can output serious bass!). Loungeroom is 4m x 6m (2.75m ceiling), wooden floorboards with rug under coffee table, 2 couches, dining table, sideboard & long bookshelf. I'm a professional DJ (for more than 20yrs!) with a broad & deep taste in music - at home we'd listen to anything from baroque classical, ambient, jazz, blues, soul/motown, world music, modern roots, reggae/dub, nu-jazz, deep house, progressive trance, drum n bass, classic rock, folk - you guys get the picture - the speakers need to be good all-rounders! I should note that we often listen to music at low-moderate levels so want speakers that can sound good when just ticking over. I hope that's enough info for you to make some good recommendations - let me know if there's anything else you need to know. Thanks!
  24. Hello SNA members. Some of you may have read my rant on these speakers. Curiously, I went and bought MA RX2's.. My setup consists of a Rega Brio 3, Rega P5 with Ortofon 2M Bronze cart (soon to be changed to either a Shelter 301 MkII or a Benz Ace) Musical Surroundings Phenomena II Phone Pre-Amp, Rega TT PSU and some poxing old Denon CD Player. Basically, I'm in a bedroom. with, not surprisingly, a queen sized bed in it. Oh, and an Apple Mac setup for my graphic design course. Oh, yes, and shedloads of records and a few CD's... So I thought it was a bright idea to forget how much I fell in love with the Toy Monitors and put a whopping great pair of RX2's in there. The excess bass (for my modest accommodation:)) was killing me, I had no dynamics, shallow soundstage, but a lovely treble. I was bored, and barely listened to my setup. Something had to change... So I revisited these little gems. All I can say how important it is to match the speaker to the room, I now have no bass bloom, it's actually tight as a nut. Sure, it doesn't go as low as the RX2's, but the glorious midrange is now clear, but full of warmth. I can hear nuances I haven't heard, but it's not analytical. SF speakers have got that habit of keeping the musicality intact. I care not for super accuracy, but a balance. Music is played by musicians, not robots. The soundstage now has depth too. I'm not fatigued from listening either, and, currently have all my records strewn over my bed!! (Well, not actually all of them, but you get the picture:)) I listen to Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Mazzy Star, Bjork, Black Sabbath, Portishead.. Mostly Rock, Blues, Alternative, Classical. Even the Chemical Brothers has enough punch!!! If someone finds these not analytical enough, and desire something super accurate, then grab some Legend Joeys. Anyhow, I've got to wait for my tax return so I can grab that new cart for my Rega P5.. (It never ends does it?) **Just a caveat. In no way shape and form and I knocking Monitor Audio's RX2's.. It just wasn't a good fit for me.** Hope this was in some small way informative!!!
  25. Hello SNA members! Finally, after lengthy contemplation, decided to put these up for sale. Got the upgrade bug!! Damn expensive hobby this They are in immaculate condition, had them for about six months. So they are just run in now. Have the original box, instructions and receipt. They've always sat on top of some Atacama SL600 speaker stands on Atacama gel pads, so the underside of the speaker is as immaculate as the top and sides. They've been in my room in a pet and smoke free environment. My price is firm, so please no offers. I'm happy to deliver anywhere in Melbourne, for country Victoria and the rest of Australia, postage is at your cost, and your responsibility. Outside of Australia, sorry, I won't sell overseas. $25 dollar donation to SNA when I get payment for the speakers... Item: Monitor Audio RX2's Location: Melbourne Price: $795.00 Item Condition: Excellent, like new. Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or Paypal Extra Info: n/a Pictures: I've attached one, if you want more, ask.
