  2. I am looking for a power amp recommendation to extend my 5.1.4 to 7.2.4. Currently, I am using Denon x4300h with SVS prime tower and surround speakers. in ceiling speakers are paradigm h80r. I am confused about which power amp is suitable without breaking the bank. Ideally, I should able to run my LCR channel on power amp and the rest on avr.
  3. Hi Stereonet I am trying to find a demonstration disc that showcases the best parts of multiple different movies. I’d like to be able to put on a disc that showcases my systems bass, surround sound and 4K visual. It’s a bit of a pain to keep swapping content when doing demos. Is there anything like that you can buy or download? Has anyone made there own? any help appreciated Cheers Ben
  4. I’m wanting to add Atmos speakers to my system. I want to add 4. I thought this will be perfect, since my x4100w can’t power 9 channels but can process 9 channels I’ll just reassign the front terminals to power the Atmos and then pre out the fronts with a stereo amp. Apparently this reassignment can’t be done???? This seems like a simple thing to put into the receiver. Is there any work around. I’d rather not have my 2 of my 4 height speakers sounding different. I didn’t mind with the fronts since there’s a trade off of convenient stereo receiver amplified music. But this just seems unwise on Denon’s part. Again, is there any workaround? Thank you
  5. First off, just recently joined this wonderful community, so thanks in advance to everybody. Currently in the process of a renovation, and I've decided to create an ATMOS 5.1.2 setup. Needs to be spouse friendly, so some limitations with aesthetics and size. What I've got so far: AVR - Denon AVR-X1700H Front speakers - Dali Zensor 3s - soon to be replaced by Monitor Audio Bronze 5s Centre - Wharfedale Diamond 9.CM Sub - Canton Karat AS200 SC Rear surrounds - Yamaha NS-IC800 ceiling speakers (on order) ATMOS ceiling speakers - Yamaha NS-IC400 ceiling speakers My main question - are the IC400s enough for ceiling ATMOS speakers? EDIT: if not, will be looking to buy different ceiling speakers for this purpose. Any recommendations if that's the case? Many thanks Trying to maximise performance without pissing off the partner. System will probably be used for music more often than HT. Cheers

  7. Looking for opinions and advice please. Thanks in advance! I have been planning a 5.1.2 HT set up for a while now and the components are coming together. The pending item is the atmos speakers. The HT room is small with a low ceiling and I was advised to have an upfiring atmos speaker. Also it will be very tough to run wires and so an elevated atmos speaker is ruled out. Therefore looking for something that can sit on my floorstanders and do the job. Just want to get a second opinion on this and also some advice on the speakers themselves. Based on my research, even a pair of bookshelves angled up or down should help with the atmos effect but I see a few varieties of atmos speakers that can be used on top of floor standers. I was looking at the Sony ones https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/speakers/ss-cse. These are by far the cheapest I have seen and have good reviews but they have only 1 driver each. Would this be recommended v/s something like this which also comes with a tweeter for the atmos. https://www.spacehifi.com.au/audio/speakers/surround-speakers/monitor-audio-bronze-ams-dolby-atmos-speakers?option=1799 I know that Atmos is a very tricky thing to achieve in the first place. My expectations are low. I will be buying a good 4k blu ray player with Dolby atmos and this would probably be the main source for atmos encoded content. Rest of my set up for reference: Yamaha RX V6A Receiver Front pair: Ascension custom made floorstanders (high end drivers) + centre Rear: Yamaha musiccast 20 * 2

  14. Hi all, After persevering with a funny L-shaped theatre room for the last few years, I'm finally moving into a better room for my theatre room. This room has its own quirks but will be much closer to a rectangle and will allow me to have much better speaker placement. It's an existing living room so I'm not looking for anything radical with the design, just some advice on key points to have it work effectively for the future. Key details: 6.9m (length) x 5m (width) x 2.45m (height) One set of glass french doors on the main viewing wall, one window on the left wall, one door on the right wall, one door in the back wall, two ceiling beams running across the ceiling at the 2.5m and 5m mark with the beams dropping down approx 230mm, oh and a funny study corner room (which actually works very well for my design which will have a fixed frame screen on castors to slide it out of the way of the french doors). Will be a light controlled room with black blockout curtains, but will be a light and bright living room when not in theatre use. Will be a combo of movies, tv, music and gaming. 140" 16:9 fixed frame screen with acoustic transparent fabric One lounge row of seating approx 4 - 4.5m back from the screen, and perhaps some bean bags around the room as extra occassional seating. Currently 7.1 channel 1080P with a BenQ W1070, but am prepping the room for potentially 7.2.4 down the track with a BenQ W5700 or similar 4K projector. Will probably stay with the 140" 16:9 screen but could transition to a 180" 2.35:1 cinemascope screen down the track if I was feeling really adventurous. Key initial questions: For a 4 - 4.5m viewing distance from screen, should I aim for the projector to be approx. 4.5m back from the screen (within BenQ's min and max specs for a 140" (3544 - 4608mm)? Will I be right with the lense centre point approx 20cm below the ceiling? (Noting beam no.1 drops down approx 230mm and is well in front of the projector). I propose for the top of screen to be approx 350 - 450mm below the ceiling line when in position. If I run 4 x Atmos speakers in the ceiling in future (leaning towards Krix Helix due to their shallow 86mm mounting depth), I assume I will have to run two approx 1.5m in front of my lounge, and then the other two 1.5m behind my lounge to align with Dolby's 90 degree placement? Am I likely to have sound issues with ceiling beam no.2 partially blocking the listening position or due to the speakers not being far from the back wall? Any thoughts on the use of a solid core sliding door for the right side door? Can you get a drop seal for this kind of door to minimise sound leakage? I'm working out wiring now. Some cables will use cable hide strips along the skirting boards while I think I'll need 1-2 runs of cable to the ceiling (for the projector and Atmos speakers) and right wall (for the rear right and rear surround right speakers). Should I be adding any specific cables now to future-proof the ceiling inputs for a projector e.g. 10-15m long HDMI, cat5e, power, displayport? What will be the common projector standard in say 3 years time? Pictures to aid discussion: (note my horribly rough hand drawn plan is not at all to scale!) Random idea for the sliding door: Thanks

  17. Hi guys, I would really appreciate any guidance. I have front right/left speakers which are 6ohm 250w (nominal) central, rear left and rear right are 8ohm 150w (nominal) My amp is at the moment struggling to push all those speakers so i was wanting to upgrade. budget wise i think up to about 1k would be something for a 5 channel (just guessing here), if more how much more would be needed ? would there be one the would be HDCP 2.2-compliant ? if some that have atmos capability so i can buy some speakers and add in the future would be great. so would be 5.1.2 i'm guessing here? would a 7.1.2/7.2.4 be better ? havent seen a lot of bluray that comes with 7channel capability like that. the 7 i see usually are counting the atmos speakers. Thanks in advance for reading and for any suggestions that comes my way. Current Setup Receiver: Yamaha HTR-3066 Front: NHT C4 Centre: Gale 20 Rear: Axis LS28 Subwoofer: Sound Dynamics THS-10

  19. Hi I am building new house theatre is 6m long and 4m wide. As per attached plan there will be front, Center, sub, 1 ceiling pair for atmos 1 side surrounds pair and 1 rear surround pairs for 7.1.2 . (all surrounds at 1.5m height). I am seeking option whether to turn rear surrounds into rear ceiling atmos to 5.1.4 as some people suggests is better setup than 7.1.2, and will be less clutter in the wall,. However I am not sure if that suits my room, Alternatively this can be mounted as rear presence speaker but at what height? If I am going 5.1.4 what should be the distance of side surround from rear wall/corner? Thank
  20. This is my first post, so sorry if it rambles on a bit, just trying to give a full and clear picture. I have been doing a lot of reading here and have picked up a lot of fantastic info....I do have a a few questions relating to an upgrade I am considering and I'm hoping some of you may be able to assist with setting me straight because the more I read the more confused I am getting. What I have - The system I have currently is a Pioneer VSX-919AH with 58" 4k display. Room size is 7m x 5m, with MLP in the centre of the 7m rear wall 4 front speakers - Dali AXS5000 and some large mid 70s vintage 3-ways which were my Fathers. I know some might say I prob shouldn't run the 4 fronts but it is a sentimental thing. A Klipsch Centre channel, Klipsch Quintet III surrounds (about to be upgraded to Klipsch C2 and S2's - already purchased along with some F2's at a great price, just waiting on delivery) and 2 Klipsch Sub-10's - one at either end of the couch, approx 6.5m apart with MLP central to that and an old Cerwin-Vega Sub LW-10X, central at the front of the room, beneath the display. As I'm using A+B, I have to forego the Surround backs and since I have no Pre-outs I can't use an external amp. I will add, that I am perfectly happy with the current setup but I would like to make it more expansive, for no other reason I guess, than because I can. What I would like to achieve - I would like to be able to continue using A+B but also include Surround Backs and some height channels, 2-4 or maybe expand to 6 at a later time (I have space to install in-wall or external Surround Back's and in-ceiling speakers). I have looked at posts on AVS Forum about 'Franken-Atmos' and 'Scatmos' setups which I find very interesting but also confusing as I do not have the technical electronics knowledge to know which receiver's will perform the certain functions I need. That being said, I am open to any suggestions. What I'm considering - but open to suggestions Pioneer SC-LX89 (13.2ch Pre-outs, 3xHDMI out) Denon AVR-4400H (11.2ch Pre-outs, 3xHDMI out) Both support Dolby Surround which appeals to me for non-Atmos content up-mixing. Some of my questions: 1 - If I upgrade to one of the above AVR's - can I use one of the HDMI outs - into the Pioneer VSX-919AH, to use as an external amp, running the 'B' or even 'A+B" speakers? 2 - or - If I use the Pre-outs, to an external Amp or the old AVR, does this disable the internal amplification to the corresponding speaker posts? Howdy Folks, Long time lurker, first time poster! moving into a new place shortly as pictured below, this will be the living room space i will have my HT setup. dimensions 5.8m long x 3.7m wide with open plan to kitchen and dining area behind camera. ideally i would like to have a 7.1.4 setup(sub woofer to come) in the room, this may however not be ideal or be possible given where the furniture will be placed(same as pictured) i would like opinions on how you would set this room up for greatest audio experience. biggest concerns are a. placement of side and rear surround ( i would like a good rear sound stage if possible O_O) b. best options for Atmos ceiling speaker placement options( speakers to be purchased ) Equipment Yamaha RX-A3070 receiver PSB Image 5.0 setup (Towers/Centre/bookshelf) + 2 x PSB bookshelf and C40 centre. 24. Hi, I’m a bit confused about this now, because I’ve gotten different answers. I am using the HDMI arc connection ( it’s the only HDMI out) (Denon avr-x1600h) connected to the HDMI arc on my tv ( Panasonic fz950 OLED (which is full bandwidth) I have my 4K blu ray player and PS4 Pro connected to my avr HDMI ports. When I’m playing a 4K movie with Atmos on my blu-ray player, am I getting it down-converted to something lower quality, or full lossless atmos? I understand that playing something from my tv, eg the Netflix app, I wont be able to get Atmos. Eg; When playing a movie with atmos connected to the HDMI ARC port of my tv, my AVR says Dolby Atmos – True HD. Now when playing it on the HDMI non arc port, it says the say thing, Dolby Atmos -True HD. Everything sounds the same.
  25. Hi guys. Another help me choose thread. I am currently building my house and planning to have a 5.2.2 setup in my theatre room. Room measurements are 4240mm X 3080mm, ground floor of a 2 storey home in Sydney North West. My current speakers are all Richter MK4 speakers. Have not decided on a AV Receiver yet as the build still have a few months to go but leaning towards a Sony STR-DN1080. Usage would be 80% movies and 20% music. I am looking to get a pair of ceiling speakers for atmos use. My budget is around $500 but can be stretched if necessary. Any suggestions on ceiling speakers that I should look into, which would be a match for my current setup? Reading through some other forums, I am considering the below, but this is only based on my limited research. 1. https://www.selby.com.au/pair-of-8in-angled-glass-fibre-ceiling-speakers-xd8205b-x2.html 2. https://www.customht.com.au/products/ns-ic800?variant=14009024544820&currency=AUD&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAiAj-_xBRBjEiwAmRbqYqUTjJD_qtRPY4ljtjTx-S0A6j8l8A5j_XWP0sUXE43JjFZ6SquQbxoC5rYQAvD_BwE Appreciate any help. Thank you.
