  1. Mind blowing sound and a great investment. people will quibble over which is better gold lsu or hpds. I think they are just different. There is a priceless review on Audiogon, I think, where a long time LSU golds owner compares the 2 and decides, no the hpds are good but the LSUs just come out ahead. then a week later he’s back… ( paraphrasing) i take it back I’ve been listening for a week and now I prefer the hpds These are 12” hpd drivers in original Tannoy sealed cabinets. They are 92 fb efficient. I had no trouble driving them with my single ended 10 watt amps. they have that beautiful full range sound and are innnear perfect condition-tear in the cover is the only flaw and is an easy fix I bought these last year as my forever speakers. I just love the sound and of course you never loose on these, look at how Tannoy prices have moved in the last 25 years . These weigh 66 lbs each. I can’t pack them myself ( I’m not downsizing for fun ) . We can arrange for pack and send to pick up and pack. Or you can come and get them. I mean a huge proportion of Australia’s population live within a few hundred kilometres of me, and Autumn is a great time to visit the capital region and with Easter nearby it’s a great time to travel good news- an audio buddy here has offered to assist with packing so that will bring the shipping cost down significantly

  4. Speakers were purchased new, and are in excellent condition. There is one mark on on the rear corner of one of the units that seems to be where the veneer has rubbed off however would be easy to correct if desired (see photo - the mark is only on the corner). These are a great sounding speaker, unfortunately I no longer have a need (or space) for them. I have the original boxes and packing, feet and manual.
  5. Further Information: Immaculate example of Tannoy Arden Mk1's with Alnico goodness. These have had the surrounds replaced to original spec and crossovers upgraded with Jantzen caps, both by @Lx4man From what I hear you'd be hard pressed to find a better presenting example. Not sure what else there is to say, hard to find fault with these, they look and perform beautifully. Audition possible in Kyneton or could deliver to Melbourne. NB imperfections in the photos most likely lens flare or a bit of dust.

Granite slabs were used as plinths, I've changed it to Soundcare feet. Happy to demo for serious buyers. Black granite slabs and Soundcare super spikes are included in price. 7. These 10" Tannoy speakers came out of a set on vintage Eaton bookself/standmount speakers with a volume of 30L - I don't have the cabinets but do have the original grills and badges. I'm looking get some cabinets made and maybe go bigger to try and get some more bass out of them. Maybe a folded horn design? Any thoughts on designs or Do's & Don'ts? The current Eaton is also listed as a 30L cabinet and is also front ported. Dimemsions of the original and new are pretty similar. Dimensions: original 524 x 350 x 250mm & New 538 x 376 x 250 mm Looking forward to any replies . TIA, Richard.
  8. Further information: A pair of original Tannoy crossovers for HPD315, 12" DC drivers, in original condition, suitable for Cheviot/Devon cabinets. These could be esily modded to work with HPD385, 15" DC drivers which would suit Berkeley and Arden cabinets as well. Will answer any questions via PM, please don't expect an instant reply, allow up to 24h to hear back from me. Thanks Photos:
  9. Some time ago, following a renovation here at home, I sold my Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6T tower speakers. At the time I bought them, my Dad also bought a set. Dad (now 86 years old) is relocating to a retirement home, and the Tannoys are not suited to his new environment. So here's a great chance for a lover of British Hifi and the unique Tannoy Dual Concentric attributes to get hold of a pair of these terrific speakers. These are 'Made in UK' units (Coatbridge factory) from the period when Tannoy was owned by TC Electronic (before the sad takeover by what is now known as Music Tribe). Driver complement is: 1 x 6" DC mid+high driver (Dual Concentric => compression tweeter is embedded in the centre of the larger driver, fed by the 'tulip waveguide') 1 x 6" mid/low driver. There's also a nicely-finished front port. Speakers: can be bi-wired (single-wiring links are installed) have lovely magnetically-attached grilles are supplied with (unused) spike kits are finished in Espresso (very dark brown) veneer on beautiful curve-sided cabinets are in excellent condition! Dad did not keep the boxes for these, and they are very heavy speakers (not your common-or-garden light weight cabinets), so it won't be possible for me to box and ship them - they'd break loose from anything I could configure. I don't have a stereo amp any more - but I can demo using a small Roon-connected endpoint that has a quite-good digital power amp inside. Or you can bring an amp...

  13. Looking at picking up an old pair of Leak speakers which are 15 ohms. The three spare amps that I have ( which are all 8 Ohms ) are Quad 303, Quad 405 and an Earl Watson Trinity valve @11 Wpc. i know the power output is halved when a 15ohm speaker is powered by 8ohm output, so which would be the best of my amps for the job ? Supplementary to this, I also need to power a pair of Tannoy T225 Mayfair ( which are 8ohm) so a recommendation for one of my amps would be greatly appreciated. cheers
  14. Hi all, I thought it about time to share my humble little setup since she's finally up and running. I've been grinning ear to ear all arvo just listening to the FM bandwidth and a couple of Lps. This is the first money I've spent on Audio since the $40 I shelled out on a Sansui 331, rubbish Onkyo speakers and JVC QL-A2 4 years ago. The upgraded system us now: Luxman L-85v or an L100 Luxman T-88v tuner Thorens TD160mkii Tannoy Cheviots 12' (HDP315a drivers) Not the most high fidelity system, however it sounds great to an untrained ear such as mine. Cheers for having a read Dave
  15. Hi, has anyone heard of this line of Tannoys? As far as I can tell, they're from the early 80s, and that's it... There's a pair of Tannoy Bradley's (12" of the line up) on eBay and was wondering whether they're worth pulling the trigger. They have 3128 drivers – are these any good? Can I assume they weren't as good as the HPDs, since they don't seem to be as popular? Thanks
  16. Hi all im new here and a big hifi fan, Im very excited to be starting my new Project a set of Tannoy westminster se cabinets. It is a big project and its a first for me as ive never built anything like this before but its a challenge. Unfortunately because the specs use different sized timber i have to glue sheets together to make the thicknesses i need. I will be mounting a set of tannoy gold monitors in them as i already have them. Any feedback would be welcome especially if anyone else has taken on this awsome project.
  17. Hey SNA! Had to dump my Ushers- just not enough bite. Discovered that although it had a claimed sensitivity of 87db, Australian HiFi tested it at a very average 83db! My poor Yamaha P2075 really couldn't get the best out of it! So, me being the "genius" that I am, I realised that my Denon PRA1500 could drive some actives, so I took the plunge on some Tannoy Reveal 502's. Got some ISOpads under them. Just curious to see what everybody thinks. I actually think they're not bad for what they are, $599 active- of course, it's filling time till I get something better, but I think It's eminently listenable:)
  18. I'm looking to buy a pair of Vintage British speakers to use with my 2 channel vintage Stereo setup. My main interest is in 3 way type medium/large sized speaker's configuration, 80-100cm high, minimum 8 inch diameter woofers. The following is a list of models/brands I'm particularly interested but I'm happy to consider similar offerings. Please send me a PM with price and details if you have a pair for sale. Thank you. Celestion Ditton 25, Ditton 44, Ditton 66 Kef reference series 104ab, C80, 105/3 Mordaunt Short MS 5.50 Bowers & Wilkings Tannoy ***PS: If you are SA and you have one of the specific above models and be so kind I'd be interest to come audition them even if you are not interested in selling - at the moment I can only go by the reviews and thing I can read online or watch on YouTube. A proper listen would probably help narrow down my options. Thanks
  19. Item: Leak Stereo 20 valve amp Location: Coburg Victoria Price: PRICE DROP $950 $899 $850 ono Donation to SNA on sale Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: not getting enough use Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, DD, COD Extra Info: I would much prefer to sell this locally but if there's no local interest I'll post, buyer pays postage Purchased from John's HiFi Exchange I've had this for about 4-5 years. I bought it for it's sound quality rather than a collector piece so I can't tell you much about how stock standard it is but I was told it has had minor upgrades. I added the ugly feet and speaker terminals for practical reasons but these are easily removed. The speaker terminals are only screwed in so simple enough to change. There are some gum marks from Johns annoying stickers he puts on hs stock. A little turps will get this off. Cosmetically it's showing it's age a bit but performance wise this amp is a little gem. It competes with modern equipment effortlessly. This is a reecognised classic British valve amp. The bass is full but not tubby, the mid range is weighty with detail and presence. I actually preferred this to my Audio Note Conqueror which I sold a few years ago. The el84's are a mix of European origin and the 12ax7's are Mullards which have had around 40 hours use. Any questions please ask. I guess I should mention that the Mullards are original made in Britain Mullards. Not re-issues. 20. I was at the home of one of my daughter's friends for a BBQ. There were some large speaker cabinets with some nice sounds coming out of them. They were playing music from an iPad connected to an unknown (to me) valve amp. It turned out they were Tannoy's that came from his Grandfather's house. They found the drivers, still in boxes, after his grandfather died. He built the cabinets and was driving them with a cheap Chinese valve amp. The sound was amazing.
  21. Hi, I've have had my Cheviots for about 8 or so years. In this time I've had some nice speakers in my system but I always come back to the Cheviots for the music they produce. My Cheviots with the HPD315 drivers have finally succumbed to the inevitable and now the foam surround needs replacing. I'm very keen to use original tannoy parts and it appears Speakerbits in Melbourne sell these. But from research on the net and also contacting Lockwood in the UK it seems the original surrounds have cutouts for screws etc whereas the Speakerbits ones don't. Tannoy emailed me to say they only sell recone kits not surrounds and it appears these too have the cutouts. I know speakerbits are a reputable company but it only states on their site they are genuine factory replacements rather than Tannoy factory which is kind of open ended in my thinking. Does anyone have any experience on this front? Maybe I should stop being so fussy? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Legselevens
  22. Zu Audio speakers have often been of interest to me. I'm curious about the immersive open sound they reputedly have but wonder if it comes at the expense of other parts of the sound, mid range tone for example or just too in your face. Are there any SNA'ers who can tell me of their experience or interest in this brand? Any info is appreciated including where to demo in Melbourne? Thanks
  23. Item: Tannoy Revolution R2 Floorstander Speakers (Made in Europe) Location: Sydney Eastern Suburbs Price: $450 neg. Item Condition: Very good cosmetic condition (a few scuffs on corners of cabinet, some uneven colouring from position of speaker grilles). Function perfectly. Speaker grille cloth has been replaced. Reason for selling: Too many speakers, not enough house! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Only Extra Info: Lovely looking, great sounding low profile floorstanders. Can be bi-wired. Very good with jazz, classical, electronica. Surprisingly deep bass, lovely mids/highs. Can be mass-loaded with dry sand/shot for extra bass. Worked very well as 2 channel with my Brio R but great as home theatre fronts too. "Beautifully built [and with a] full and weighty sound" is how the reviewers at What Hi*Fi describe the R2s. With their sophisticated real cherry wood cabinets, the R2s not only sound fantastic, but look the part too. Their sleek cabinets appear in stark contrast to the outstanding bass and huge image which these gems produce - a real winner. Sensitivity: 88db Impedance: 6 Ohms Frequ. Response: 44Hz- 20kHz Dimensions: 92 x 17 x 23.5cm (HWD) Weight (unfilled): 13kg Pictures: (normal apologies apply!)

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month we will have a system comprising of NAD and Tannoy provided by Audio Products (refer to http://www.audioproducts.com.au/) and Len Wallis Audio (refer to http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/). We will also have Scott Collins (Audio Products Marketing Manager) and Himal Jekishan of Audio Products in attendance. Today, whilst still producing excellent affordable models, NAD is now recognised around the world as the manufacturer of some of the world's most advanced digital audio products. At the club meeting, we will presenting its acclaimed Masters Series models. From the NAD Masters Series, Len Wallis Audio is kindly providing a M2 Direct Digital Amplifier (2 x 250W) which has received many awards and accolades including a ‘Product of the Year’ award from The Absolute Sound. (Refer to http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/products/amplifiers/integrated-amplifier/m2 and http://www.audioproducts.com.au/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=M-2). The M2 integrated amplifier will be driving a pair of Tannoy Definition DC8T’s which are the result of the refinement of over 80 years of audio heritage. The Definition series feature Tannoy’s Dual Concentric™ design which positions the tweeter at the centre of the cone to yield outstanding time coherence and true point source articulation with no energy loss through the crossover region.
