  3. For our April club meeting … George Fracchia of Zensati Australia (http://www.zensatiaustralia.com/) will present a superb system based around the Prism Sound Callia DAC/Preamp, along with the Technical Brain Integrated Amplifier TB-ZERO INT and the PMC MB2 SE Speakers. The PMC speakers have been kindly supplied by Vinod and John at the LifeStyle Store in North Parramatta (visit http://www.lifestylestore.com.au/). The official representative of Prism Sound in Australia, Peter Orehov, will also be present. Peter will give a presentation highlighting the relevance of the Professional Recording (studio) to the Audiophile and Hi-Fi community. ZenSati Australia sells the Prism Sound Callia DAC/Preamp to the Hi-Fi and Audiophile community. Technical Brain products are also available through Zensati Australia. PMC products are available through the Lifestyle Store. The system will be as follows: Prism Sound Callia DAC/Preamp. Jason Kennedy at the the-ear.net said… “Prism Sound’s reputation preceded it when it finally entered the domestic hi-fi business earlier in the year [2016]. The Cambridge based company has been making converters for the studio market since 1987 and its top pro DAC is a cult product amongst those in the know. PMC founder Peter Thomas has one in his main system for instance, and he’s tried more than most in his quest for digital audio ecstasy.” Refer to http://www.prismsound.com/hifi/products_subs/dac1/dac1_home.php and http://www.the-ear.net/review-hardware/prism-sound-callia-dacpreamplifier. From the Lifestyle Store website “…Meticulous attention has been applied to hone the designs to new standards, adding new internal bracing, computer-modelled driver dispersion surrounds, and custom-designed, specially tuned stands. All these elements contribute to the production of a purer musical signal, allowing the listener to come as close as possible to the original performance.” Refer to http://www.lifestylestore.com.au/pmc-mb2-se-three-way-high-resolution-reference-monitors.html, http://pmc-speakers.com/products/consumer/se-series/mb2-se. Our thanks again to the Lifestyle Store for graciously providing these speakers for the day. Cabling will be from the products distributed by Zensati Australia which includes Vertere, Black Cat, Trinity, Dalby and of course ZenSati. Gryphon Mikado Signature CD player. We will use the Mikado as the transport into the Callia DAC/Preamp. Note that Gryphon Audio Designs is not distributed by Zensati Australia (this player belongs to a club member). The Mikado is an excellent player with remarkable resolution, transparency and warmth. Refer to http://www.gryphon-audio.dk/m/product-information/heritage-products/mikado-signature/reviews for reviews. Note: We will also have an Oppo BDP-105D Universal player on hand to allow the playing of USB flash drives during our BYO session. We will be using the Oppo only as a transport into the Callia DAC. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD or USB flash drives (sorry no vinyl). All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others. Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. 4. Here is my system. I have finally finished a lot of the tweaks I have been experimenting with. The MB2se's sound much, much better than they did at the AV show (thankfully). Assisi paid a visit today to try out a few things and have a listen. He owns ML2 limited's and a PS Audio PWDac as well. We both felt the PMC MB2se's have the same beautiful midrange and treble as the ML2's. The PMC's effortlessly disappear and reproduce realistic soundstage width and depth. In my space (quite large and open) the bass is perfectly proportioned and controlled. The sound is very much "live".

Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, paypal, direct deposit Extra Info: These are fantastic speakers from PMC. Its a small box and ideal for desktop HiFi or in a small room. Amazing detail and soundstage from these speakers, and bass is pretty good for a speaker of this size. There are a lot of very positive reviews on these speakers. I used these previously in my bedroom, however, since moving a few months ago, we cannot fit a system in the bedroom anymore. 8. Hello everyone, I am new to Hi-Fi but am just assembling my first (entry-level) serious system. I just bought a Rotel RA-1520 integrated amplifier and now I am on the lookout for a set of bookshelf speakers that would be a good match. This is for a 10m x 3.6m x 3m quite dead (mostly carpeted) open-plan space. The lady of the house has dictated that floorstanders are not an option. Ultimately I would also be looking to add a subwoofer to the mix to adequately cover the bass. At the moment I am just using a Pro-ject DAC box for input which I will also upgrade down the track. I was thinking to spend $AUD1000-1500 but could stretch to $2000 if there is a significant and justifiable increase in quality. I know that the only way to pick speakers is by auditioning them which I plan to do shortly. However, it would be very helpful to have a list of vetted options on which to focus. There is an incredible number of different options out there. It would also be helpful to get an Australian perspective given the different pricing and availability here. So far I've only listened to the Polk LSiM703 which I thought were excellent. A lot of people talk about B&W being a good match for Rotel (685, CM1, CM5). From other forums, KEF (Q300, R300, R100, LS50), Dynaudio (Excite X12, DM 2/6, DM 2/7), ATC (SCM11) and PMC (DB1i, twenty .21/.22) have also been recommended, though the latter are a little out of my league. If anyone could share their experiences with the above or suggest any other options, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Nick
  9. Item: PMC TB2S+ Standmount Speakers - Studio version matte black Location: Horsham, Victoria (will courier at buyers expense). Price: $1500 ONO $1350 $1050 firm. Item Condition: Near New - 6 months old Reason for selling: Medical costs/Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are the best speakers I have ever owned. I bought them from Stereophonic in Melbourne 6 months ago. They are extremely accurate, have great soundstage and go deeper than any speaker it's size has a right to. This is probably due to the transmission line design incorporated into the enclosures. The enclosures have 'PMC' etched into the sides of each speaker (photo 1) and are very durable. They come with original manuals box etc. I will be very sorry to see these go however my wife urgently needs surgery and that comes first. Pictures:
  10. EOI for Monitor Audio GS 60 floorstanders. Santos Rosewood real wood veneer Original rrp I believe was close to $6k * Location- Melbourne Inner North * Item condition description- In excellent condition BUT a bass driver has several almost indiscernible dimples from a wayward small finger. It does not affect performance and is visible when close. In fact a friend pointed it out to me after I had bought them. I'll post photos when I get to it but do not be put off by this if you are looking for high quality speakers like these. They present beautifully, both sonically and visually. I bought these from Johns Hi Fi exchange late 2012 and they were sold with out the grilles so the listing is for the speakers only. They look stunning without the grilles and the quality and workmanship is highly evident. I partnered these with a Musical fidelity A5 but they are actually very easy to drive. * Price and price conditions- $2200 * Reason for selling- Restlessness and money for upgrade * Payment Methods: Cash - Pickup, Paypal or Australia Post COD * Extra Info: I prefer pick up only but can take to the nearest pack and send if delivery is required. Happy to audition them if convenient. The blurb from Monitor Audio http://www.monitoraudio.com.au/support/past-products/gold-gs/gs60/#/overview Developing the discrete cavity technology of the GS20, the four-driver GS60 recreates the deep bass and authentic scale of a performance, bringing lifelike power, dynamics and realism to music and film. Yet its tall, slender appearance is anything but overpowering. Like all models in the Gold Signature range, the flagship is a monument to the cabinet-maker's art: immaculate real wood or piano gloss finishes are blended with modern industrial design and superb attention to detail. Even if you think you've heard it all before, the GS60 will take your breath away. Anti-resonance build: driver held by innovative zinc alloy clamp system; traditional tongue and groove construction; extensive vertical and radial internal bracing. 6 1/2 inch die-cast aluminium chassis bass and bass-mid drivers featuring a new Rigid Surface Technology RST®II, C-CAM® alloy cone profile. A new 1" C-CAM gold dome tweeter extends high frequency performance to beyond 40KHz. HiVe®II port design: the new port technology uses a straight rifled construction to aid air flow and reduce turbulence. - See more at: http://www.monitoraudio.com.au/support/past-products/gold-gs/gs60/#/overview * Pictures Photos of actual speakers to follow soon sorry
  11. Item: PMC TB2 speakers + Lovan Ballett II stands Location: Melbourne SE sbs Price: $950 negotiable Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Upgraded to PMC GB1 floorstand speakers Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are excellent speakers. I love the way PMC tranmission line speakers sound so much that I ended up upgraded to GB1 floor standers. The veneer is slighlty chipped at the back (not visible from the front), and the cloth grills have three runs in it (see photos). These are only cosmetic imperfections and don't affect the sound at all. Dimensions: 40 (H) x 20 (W) x 30 (D) cm PMC specs: Power: 150W per side Sensitivity: 90 dB/W Frequency response: 40 Hz - 25kHz Serial no. 003747 and 003748. Made in UK. I purchase the speakers from a member of this forum. The Lovan stands have been purchased new from Carlton Audio Visual and I filled the columns with dry sand. You are welcome to come and inspect them, send a PM if you are interested.
  12. Item: Usher BE718BE Location: Melbourne, Keysborough Item condition: 7/10. In very good cosmetic and mechanical condition only rated 7 due to a very small chip on underside of one speaker and scratches on the bottom where it was placed on spiked stands, both of these not visible unless looking from underneath. UPDATE some scuffs on the back but nothing noticeable from 2 feet Price: Reason for selling: It's a hobby so time to try something new Payment Methods: Bank transfer, Paypal, Cash on Pickup Extra Info: Marked these as EOI as I'm not completely decided on selling these as I'v put a lot of work into them. But as this is a hobby i'm always on the pursuit of a new challenge and I feel I have taken these to the best they can be. I bought them a couple of years ago unheard and based on the many flattering reviews (some stating they were the best stand mount they had heard period). After a while I felt that while they were a great speaker it didn't quite live up to the legend, I tried a few different stand mounts and couldn't find anything in my budget better so persisted with them. I started googling them and soon learned of the differences between the local version we received here and the US version which is the one supplied to the reviewers of which only a limited production was made. So I decided to modify these to the US spec. With guidance from speaker guru Danny Richie of GR Research in the USA (who personally redesigned the crossover for the reviewed versions). The following modifications were made. 1. Replaced the stock crossover with the GR Research mod with fully matched Sonicaps and mills resistors. One change I did make was substituting with the ERSE Pulse caps with the more expensive Obligatto Gold Caps which provided a slightly more organic bass sound. This upgrade was a night and day type improvement and it is criminal this is not offered by Usher as a signature version the parts alone cost me $400 however. midrange was much smoother, top end more defined and bass much more controlled. 2. I Repalced the DMD tweeters with the older series Beryllium tweeters. Usher abandoned the BE tweeter after it was discovered they contained very little Beryllium, they moved to a Diamond version as a so called upgrade but it was a forced decision. Regardless of what was in them the BE in my and many other opinions was superior. The BE tweeter offered a much smoother mid range with sightly recessed highs which voices really well with the upgrade crossover and bass driver. While DMD had a more forward top end it did give vocals a somewhat hollow sound and could get fatiguing especially with electric guitars. The BE is ultra smooth and provides a much nicer full bodied sound, the top is more silky much like Dynaudio's with plenty of detail without being overly aggressive , and much more suited to female vocals and rock music. 3. Under Danny's advise I replaced the cheap polyester internal damping with NoRez damping material. 4. Replaced all internal wiring with OCC solid copper wire from Electra cable in the USA, this is a great alternative to the out of my price range JPS Labs Aluminata wire used in the US model. These speakers now sound like the reviewed models, the detail and smoothness is remarkable and they handle all types of music with confidence, transparency and a little added excitement, they excel with rock music and with layered music ie Radiohead you can easily make sense of a dense mix. Now for the caveats, 1.they need a lot of juice, forget value amps, integrated amps or AVRs they will sound best with a clean 200+ watts they just soak up power. I've run them on my moderate Anthem AVR and the bass it lose and slow, I kicked them with a Bryson 4BSST and they came alive with much tighter bass and less congestion in the lower mid range, Class D was also very good provided you had a warmish Preamp. I had great results Bi wired with a Parasound A52 but anything smaller then this and they wont deliver the best. 2.If you love deep bass pair it with a sub, they play low the the rolloff is very sharp. I crossed over the sub at 55hz in my 4.5 X 3.8 room. The sub wasn't working very hard and it is only an 8 inch but it really helped fill in the last octave for upright bass and synth sounds 3. Placement is critical, not so much due the bass resonance as they are front ported but more due to having a narrow sweet spot. Soild stands are a must also, I used Z1's filled with stones and sand!! If interested PM me happy to audition I'm located in Keysborough Melbourne, Have original packaging (double Box) a can get good shipping rates via work so PM for quote.
  13. ****SOLD***** PMC DB1i Standmount speaker and PMC wall mounts Item: PMC DB1i Standmount speaker and PMC wall mounts Location: SE Melbourne Price: $1300 plus postage, $1100 for speakers only without wall mounts Item Condition: Very Good condition Reason for selling: Have upgraded, this will help fund Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD, direct bank deposit Extra Info: http://www.wickeddig...uct/view/39/335 http://www.pmc-speak...er/iseries/db1i http://www.dolphinmu...ll-bracket.html I have recently upgraded and for this to happen I need to sell these much treasured speakers of mine and a few other items be listing separately. The reviews in the link above speak for them selves. These are a lovely speaker that costs $2,300 new plus $250 for the PMC supplied wall bracket or $2,550 for them in total. Am selling them at considerably less only because one has some very small blemishes, though hard to notice (see pics where have tried to highlight. And hence I have discounted these as it makes them not as new. Otherwise they are 3 years old with 2 more years of warranty left and in very good condition. I will provide them with all original box, packaging, manual, brochure, instructions and original receipt from Carlton Audio visual where I purchased these from. For a melbourne purchaser welcome to pay cash on pick up. Otherwise happy to ship this to anywhere in australia at buyers cost. I will make sure its box is overwrapped in bubble wrap and shipping is registered and insured for peace of mind. Anyone unfamiliar with this speaker, it is an awesome standmount speaker, very well suited for either smaller room eg bedroom/study or smaller listening room. They are also purpose built for nearfield setups eg studys and the like. And the supplied wall mounts are designed just for this purpose. Alternatively they also make very good surrounds and given they use the same drivers as the rest of the current PMC range would also be ideal as side or rear surrounds in an all PMC system. In sound they are very clean detailed. Image well. Have astounding bass for their size. And beautifully made and finished in a real Cherry wood veneer. They are quality product made in UK with still plenty of warranty left for peace of mind pics added below
