Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Cameron Pope of Krispy Kables (http://www.krispykables.com.au/) will be presenting a system that promises presence, imaging and excellent tonal balance. Krispy Kables offers a wide range of products to suit every ear and budget: dCS, Bladelius, Aktimate active speakers, Sim Audio (Moon), EgglestonWorks speakers, Pure Audio, Morch tonearms, Resolution Audio, Shelter cartridges, Atohm speakers and subs, JL Audio subs, Verity speakers, Voodoo cables and Zu Audio to name a few, plus Krispy Kables own branded cables. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite discs – vinyl or CD/SACD. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. For our last club meeting of the calendar year, Cameron Pope of Krispy Audio (http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/pages/About-Us.html) will be presenting. Cameron has presented to the Sydney Audio Club a couple of times before, each time bringing in a totally different and great system. This time he’s bringing in another impressive system based on Harbeth speakers – their first appearance in the club. Details of the system…. (most detail below has been copied from the Krispy Audio web site)… Harbeth Super HL5+ speakers – http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/Harbeth-Super-HL5-Plus-speakers.html Breathtaking transparency, a huge soundstage and total immersion in the performance. See Cameron’s web site for a few pointers to reviews of these speakers. 3. I'm thinking this will be the system I have in the study for some time. It's sounding terrific. I didn't realise that I had only upgraded my study system back in June. But as it has turned out I swapped in and out various pieces with the final change being a Yamaha A-S1000 amp and removing the Copland CSA29. I grabbed a bargain at Eastwood HiFi (A-S1000 was $1399). So the system now comprises of: Yamaha CD-S2000 Yamaha A-S1000 Graham Slee UL Diamond Series HP Amp Sennheiser HD650 with Zu Cable Mobius cable Revel M22 speakers Krispy Kable RCA cables ISOtek Power cables Vibrapods under both PC has Xonar Essence STXII soundcard Library is FLAC I added the Amp this morning. I'm already impressed, what a beautiful sounding Amp. only had it playing for an hour so far so cant really give full impressions but its opening up with each song. Its more detailed than the Copland which is understandable as the Copland has a tube pre-amp stage. But the Yammy is not lacking in bass and the vocals are really well presented as is guitar. Not to sound corny but as is written on the Yamaha gear 'natural sound' its exactly that. It may be that I'm used to some slight colouration with the 6922s in the Copland but I have noticed a different sound with the Yamaha combo. And really happy with it. I've been extremely lucky in grabbing this setup as most was via SNA 2nd hand - the Revel M22s, the Yamaha CD-S2000, Senn's, Mobius cable all through here. Also I consider I got the Amp via SNA as well as its where I saw the Ad. I was worried I would be stepping down from the CSA29 as its a very capable Amp. But I've lost nothing with the A-S1000. Whether its a better match to the CDP, not sure but they go really well together. It will take some getting used to as the detail, crispness and clarity are the main differences with the Yammy. Not bright, but small details like drum brushes stand out much more than I recall. Little nuances that will be exciting to discover. I must have turned my head 5 times already when I hear a sound from one of the speakers that I'm not used to hearing in familiar music (Lizz Wright and Jose James). So there you go - a happy start to the new year with the updated study system. Thanks for looking. John (I will be replacing that small fridge - its been unplugged for most of the year, I just keep forgetting about it until I see it in pics)
