  2. Would appreciate advice on whether there are any foreseeable problems in driving a pair of 4 ohm rated DynAudios from a Denon AVR2310. I have been running them as a 2 channel system off a Yamaha A-S700 but I am considering adding a DynAudio center speaker and hooking up to the Denon as a 3 speaker system. Getting mixed responses as to overheating and music quality issue. Very small listening area and rare to take things up past about 30% of capability. I have another set of DynAudio Excite 12 speakers (also rated as 4ohm) as an option. All comments most appreciated. (PS: should have added the Denon VR is rated at 6-16ohm).
  3. Item: DYNAUDIO 1.3 SE LOUDSPEAKERS Location: SYDNEY Price: $1500 Item Condition: GOOD Reason for selling: C1s Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Highly regarded ancestor of the Special 25 and C1, these have been my main speakers for the last 10 yrs. Dynamic, detailed with with excellent bass. Not hard to drive but like current. They are functioning perfectly, the boxes are in excellent nick (please don't be put off by what appears to be faded veneer on the side in the first photo, it is the result of direct sunlight on that side when the photo was taken). The grills are in good condition. One woofer has a slight hole in the surround (see picture)which I was advised by a Dynaudio repairer was not worth replacing. Slight marks on the metal chassis of drivers which I have been unable to remove. I have the original boxes and will ship at buyers expense. Pictures:

  8. Hi, I have just purchased the dynaudio audience 82 floor standers from ebay. The reviews of these rate them pretty high. I paid $1575 for them. Is this a good price? Or was i ripped? I was wondering what amp you would recommend to run these? I have a vintage yamaha ca1000, would this amp run the Danes? From what i have read, these speakers may need a bit more juice. My budget could probably stretch to $1500. I would prefer to buy used to get a bit more bang for buck. Thanks
  9. I think i got real lucky yesterday. I work at the tip and some idiot has thrown away a lovely amp. Their loss, my gain. ☺ I have plugged it in and testing with a couple of old speakers from a sony system. Seems to be working pretty damn well. No smoke no fire. Sounds good even with crappy speakers. Gonna run this amp with dynaudio audience 82 speakers. Do you guys think this will be a good combo? Can you guys recommend someone in Melbourne who could check over this amp for issues? Cheers Pic of amp and crappy sony speaker below.
  10. Hi All New to this forum, so be gentle. What is your 2 cents on Dynaudio Audience 70 powered by Elektra Reference 2? Since there isn't much references out on the net regarding Elektra Audio or any of their products. Just information on forums. For such a highly regarded product in Aus, I find it strange. So, pending a seller outcome I hope to have the Elektra Ref 2 and pair with my Dyns. As you probably be aware, Dyns needs lots of juice (amperage) to perform at their best. When I first heard the 70, it was driven by a pair of mono Cyrus amps, the mids were just exquisite and sweet sweet highs. Till recently the Dyns were driven by Nakamichi AVR with so so return in sonic quality. Now, the misses allowed me to upgrade to a Denon AVR 4520, so I am using the pre-outs to the Elektra. The rest of the surround are Dyns centre and DM 2/6. But it lacks dynamic, highs just harsh when driven hard and overall lacking what I would term "authoritative" control. All my previous research points to Parasound A21 (which I missed out on a recent sell here). So I am taking a pun that the Elektra is up to the task. My main requirement are mainly two channel audio and weekend 5.1 with the misses. Sources are Pioneer transport and Qnap TS-470 pro via HDMI using FLAC codec. MoreBeer
  11. Thinking of upgrading your floorstanders? Please consider letting me buy your 2nd Hand Dynaudio Contour speakers. I would like to replace the floorstanders in my Dynaudio system and am looking for a 2nd Hand pair of any of these Dynaudio Contour models: 1.8, 1.8 Mk II, 2.8 or 3.4 S - wanted! Can't afford new ones, but any of the mentioned speakers would be a good match for my existing setup. Not fussy about cosmetic issues - any of the wood finishes would be nice, even major cabinet dings or scratches are absolutely no problem, as long as the speakers are still in perfect working order (incl. membranes preferably still ok). It's the sound that counts! Have a matching center speaker too? Please let me know if you can help..
  12. Attended the Hong Kong Hifi show and thought I would share some photos of the event. I will hopefully add some comments and thoughts later . If anyone is interested in any of the photos specifically fire away.

  14. Hello everyone, I am new to Hi-Fi but am just assembling my first (entry-level) serious system. I just bought a Rotel RA-1520 integrated amplifier and now I am on the lookout for a set of bookshelf speakers that would be a good match. This is for a 10m x 3.6m x 3m quite dead (mostly carpeted) open-plan space. The lady of the house has dictated that floorstanders are not an option. Ultimately I would also be looking to add a subwoofer to the mix to adequately cover the bass. At the moment I am just using a Pro-ject DAC box for input which I will also upgrade down the track. I was thinking to spend $AUD1000-1500 but could stretch to $2000 if there is a significant and justifiable increase in quality. I know that the only way to pick speakers is by auditioning them which I plan to do shortly. However, it would be very helpful to have a list of vetted options on which to focus. There is an incredible number of different options out there. It would also be helpful to get an Australian perspective given the different pricing and availability here. So far I've only listened to the Polk LSiM703 which I thought were excellent. A lot of people talk about B&W being a good match for Rotel (685, CM1, CM5). From other forums, KEF (Q300, R300, R100, LS50), Dynaudio (Excite X12, DM 2/6, DM 2/7), ATC (SCM11) and PMC (DB1i, twenty .21/.22) have also been recommended, though the latter are a little out of my league. If anyone could share their experiences with the above or suggest any other options, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Nick

  21. Item: Dynaudio Contour s3.4 (pair) Location: Lara VIC 3212 Price: $3000 PRICE REDUCTION $2800 Item Condition: Mechanically Perfect. Cosmetically Good - V. Good. Reason for selling: Not entirely sure myself. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD, Bank Deposit Extra Info: Pair of Dynaudio Contour s3.4 floorstanding speakers. Purchased ex-Demo from Carlton Audio Visual mid 2012 - I have the receipt and can provide a copy. Approx 3 years of 5 year warranty remaining. Work perfectly - They sound amazing. Extremely accurate with a slightly dark sound. From the web The Dynaudio Contour S 3.4 delivers a natural, life-like sound due to its incredible balance. The Contour Cabinet is strengthened by cross braces in specific areas to achieve a solid, vibration-free construction. Internally, the MDF walls are damped with an extremely dense material that absorbs even the most microscopic resonance. In conjunction with the advanced metal baffle construction, an extremely stiff and rigid unit is created, further ennobled by the finely polished surface of a beautifully finished real wood veneer. The innovative base plinth, derived from the Dynaudio Confidence range, serves as a stylish yet solid stand for the speakers. The crossover is mounted on a smaller block, between the plinth and the cabinet, away from unwanted vibrations and resonance, while using the shortest possible path-lengths to the gold plated WBT terminals. The sensitive components are thus isolated from any potential performance compromising factors. In the S 3.4, the new Esotec tweeter is used; it features a double magnet system that ensures extremely high power handling and precise control of movement of the dome. Technical Specifications Sensitivity 86 dB (2,83 V/1 m) IEC Power Handling 270 W Impedance 4 Ohms Frequency Response 35 Hz – 25 kHz (± 3 dB) Box Principle 2-way bass-reflex Crossover Frequency 2000 Hz Weight 33.3 kg Dimensions (W x H x D) 357 x 1226 x 366 mm 14.1 x 48.3 x 14.4" ----------------------------------- I'd love to keep these but the other half wanted her room back and we're paying for renovations so time to downsize for a while. As they were ex-demo there are a couple of cosmetic blemishes. I have photographed these. I guarantee it does not diminish my enjoyment of the speakers and doubt it would diminish yours. All drivers in perfect working order. I would prefer local pickup as they are heavy buggers. I am more than happy to deliver around Melbourne. I do not have the original packaging. These currently sell for $7,495.00 at Stereophonic. I will accept reasonable offers. If you wish to purchase these and any of my other items for sale: Bryston 4BSST2 or Melody SHW1688 preamplifier contact me and we can work out a good package price. Any reasonable questions welcome. 22. Item: Dynaudio Stand 4 speaker stands (silver) Location: Clayton, VIC Price: SOLD Item Condition: Used - some scratches and marks but overall in reasonable condition. Reason for selling: Bought a brand new pair to go with my C1's Payment Method: Pickup - Cash. Details: The Stand 4 are Dynaudio's previous-generation flagship speaker stands. I haven't owned many stands, but these are by far the most solid and substantial that I've handled over the years. Construction is a mixture of steel frame and rubber damping, with twin columns that can be filled for mass-loading or used for cable management. The stands are in reasonable condition with some scratches and marks on the finish in various areas. They're certainly presentable at listening distance, and I personally think they are elegant, but purposeful looking stands that work well with all bookshelf speakers. I don't have packaging for these so it'll be pickup only I'm afraid. Current RRP is $500 while they are on run-out. Please note that only the stands are for sale - nothing else in the photos is included. Pics:

One or two minor nicks but nothing noticeable on front or sides of cabinets. One lug broken off grille but it’s an inside one so doesn’t affect attaching (has four outside ones and 1 inside – think these are replaceable anyway). Reason for selling: Was going to use for HT but idea abandoned due to lack of space Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: These were a significant upgrade at the time from Orpheus Aurora 3.3's and B&W 603 S3's. I was astounded by the improvement. Great for someone looking to take the next upgrade step. These originally retailed for around $4.5k and I bought them a few months ago from an SNAer for $2k. Since then they've had rare use as they are on a secondary system. Impedance 4ohms. Sensitivity around 87dB. Includes speaker spikes and grilles. I have boxes with packing but not the original ones.
