  1. I accidentally plugged my Rega 115v stereo amplifier in in Europe with a typical adapter. The light came on for a moment and then went off. Now it does not turn on at all. I bought a voltage converter but it still does not turn on. I think I may have blown something. Do I just need a new power cable or should I take it to the store? There is a "fuse" knob on both the amp and the converter but I don't know what they do. Thanks, Mike
  2. Could anyone point me in the right direction to have my amp serviced ? I live in country Vic (Traralgon) and would be prepared if necessary to take to Melbourne or environs. Any advice really appreciated as I'm going down to Melb this Saturday morning. One channel is intermittent and the volume controls for each channel are scratchy. I took the bottom off this afternoon and tried to get some Deoxit into the volume control pots but no cigar. I think actually its worse!
  3. Hi Im looking for some advice, after a recent post I have decided to upgrade my amplifier, for my system. Current setup is miniwatt n3 tube amp, project tube box ii, wharfedale 10.1 speakers and pro-ject debut with ortofon blue cart. Im just not getting the power i need to run the speakers to their full potential. I have narrowed it down to either the: rotel ra-10 rega brio r arcam fmj a19 If anyone has experience with either of these please let me know. Also is it worth paying almost double for the rega or the arcam over the rotel ? or should i buy the rotel and put the rest of the money into other gear etc ? If you have any other suggestions please also let me know. Cheers
  4. I've decided to break open the cupboard of the amps that I've bypassed in my "Integrated Mission" and let them get some air. If anyone has any info on the Linx Nebula, pictured below I'd appreciate hearing it, very little info exists on the web. It claims to be a 65 wpc amp (and 90 into 4) it must have at least a few watts in class A since it heats up quite a bit (I'm sure those little heat sinks don't help things). Hot enough that I am uncomfortable with the idea of leaving the room while it is playing, just in case. It even stays hot when switched onto standby which was something of a surprise. I've got a sheet of paper that lists the details of the phono stages (both MM and MC) but no other data except for the claimed dynamic power rating with is 160 watts into 8 Ohms, pretty decent if true! It does sound rather good, a fairly typically "English" sounding amp with a bit less warmth evident than the exposure gear I have heard in the past. I've got a greatest hits cd playing at the moment, if it makes it through to the end of the cd without dying of heat stroke I'll conclude that it just runs hot, if it doesn't it'll just have to go back into the cupboard until finances allow for some surgery to be carried out.
  5. Well, about a month ago I had a momentary lapse of reason & decided to source a vintage amp to enhance the vinyl as my Yammy was not cutting it. Some very helpful people here on SNA offered up some very good suggestions & price points, but an opportunity (& big punt) was to good to miss from a seller in USA. There are many of these amps for sale it seemed, but this one was almost twice the price & the punt was on why?... A little over 4 weeks later, this little or shall I say BIG black beauty arrived from Mr FedEx - Super stoaked! So, was I looking through rose tinted vintage specs or was the punt worth it? Well - This unit is SPOTTLESS. It is so clean, it could possibly be mistaken for NOS (although there is probably no way to tell?). Eitherway it's prestine. There wasnt even previous signs of RCA's being plugged into any of the rear sockets - go figure!? After changing the voltage selector, I cabled it up, plugged her in & flicked the power switch... Then NOTHING!!! The power light went on, flashed & then about 5 seconds later a click. Everything appeared to be ok, no smoke, no loud bang. Only, there was no sound. I was sh***ing myself that it was a dud. So, taking a moment to breath & then systematically move from left to right across the panel to check each knob (which is what I felt like), suddenly, as soon as the tape source button (under the main source knob) was deselected, the room filled with those airy, but sweet warm sounds from that great gig in the sky. And from that moment on, the audible walls were torn down, the room transformed & our friends from Pink Floyd could be heard in the fullest fidelity deserved of such greatness. Wish you were here...
  6. Item: Redgum Sonofa'GUM 5500 Integrated Amplifier Location: Clayton, Melbourne Item Condition: Very good - 4 months old Reason for selling: Upgraded to a Rega Brio R Price: $500 $450 including postage Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: I purchased this unit direct from the Redgum eBay store last November. It has been paired with Monitor Audio BX2's, Usher S520's and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's. With each of these speakers, the entry-level Redgum lived up to its reputation of delivering incredible slam and weight for the price - it's really energetic. Being only 4 months old, the unit is in very good condition, although there are a few points worth mentioning: The paint-job on the top of the unit is a little splotchy, see last pic below. The unit's casing had a slight bow from the factory, which meant it didn't sit completely flat. I ended up fitting a small washer between the case and one of the feet which has fixed the issue. Apart from that the unit is in great condition. All original packaging and accessories are included, and the unit is still under warranty. 8. * For Sale: Black Axiom A1400-2 Amplifier, 2 years old * Location: Gold Coast, will ship outside of QLD * Item condition description: 8/10, plain looking amp in all honesty, no major blemishes, little nick toward the back right of the equipment (see last picture) * Price and price conditions: $1,199 (was $2600 new) * Reason for selling: Moving back to US. Continuing to liquidate my stereo equipment. * Payment Methods: Paypal, Cash - Pickup * Extra Info: Kind of rare as Axiom made this premium priced amp amongst its "budget" speaker line. This is the two channel version. Its power output is enormous: 350 watts per channel into 8 ohm loads and 700 watts per channel into 4 ohms (also 700 watts into 2 ohms). 9. (Newbie) What NEW modern day state-of-the-art Preamplifier Transistors with an extremely Low Noise and High Gain out in the market today are superior to the following: 2SC2362 or 2SC1845 or KTC2240?
  10. Apologies if this have been discussed before. I'm building a system for my son's room and looking for your recommendations for an amplifier. I'm keen to move away from SS, hoping to get your opinion on a bang-for-buck/budget amplifier Requirements Near field listening for a small room. Full range open baffle using Visaton B200 96db sensitivity 6ohm nominal impedance Some kind of bass augmentation at a later date Amplifier budget is <$400 Few things on my shortlist are: 1. Topping TP-60 - TA2022 chipset 50wpc ~ $210 delivered 2. Miniwatt N3 - Single Ended EL84 - 12AX7 3.5wpc ~ $220 delivered 3. Stick with vintage SS (Old Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, Luxman) Anyone with experiences comparing the sound of class T tripath and cheap tube amps?
