  1. Thankyou for your concise response. Indeed bass extension is a major difference. I have also noticed that the sound stage is leagues wider and the imaging is alot more precise and accurate . There is no muddiness in the lower mids and they really do present at a different level overall. The sonic characteristics are similar which is what I was hoping for . I do still love the super comps in a smaller listening space but I have found the tsl are a real step up. Thanks again!
  2. Unfortunately i need to let go of this beloved beast. I tried to hang onto her as long as I could but due to cost of living pressure unfortunately she must go. I've heard alot of amps and she really shines above them all in detail, soundstage, depth, low end grip and clean headroom. Hugh has put alot of time, love and contemplation into creating this amp. He built this entirely for me about two years ago and she is a beautiful piece of work. Recently checked and serviced by the master himself. Amazing low end power and grip mixed with the tube like soundstage and presentation. Many people agree it you Would be very hard pressed to find a better amp below 10k. She will be missed. Kind regards.
  3. They are very good indeed. Just overkill for my space and interest rates are staring to take their toll so unfortunately they have to go before i sell the car.

Upgraded Summoner 1293PSQTL 3- way floorstanders. 12" drivers with upgraded NRX papyrus mid cone. veneer is light oak. Amazing speakers. Very balanced. Great low frequency and kick. Nice imaging, depth and seperation. 40 kg per speaker I think. They are very heavy! About 2 years old. Dimensions: 310mm deep 400mm wide 1250mm tall
  5. Hi All, i have a pair of super compacts I love the super compacts and was wondering if anyone knows how the old imf tls80s sound compared to the SCs? I assume the tls80 will have alot more headroom regarding dbs.
  6. There is a guy named Ron in melbourne who upgrades the crossovers starting at around 350. Hugh has had this upgrade done. I dont believe its a night and day difference. Hugh hes summoners sound more refined but less lively. This what Ron said.. ". I have found that with the series crossover between the bass and the mid-range there is a dip in the mid bass making the upper mid appear a bit louder therefore effecting the over all tonal balance. With a series crossover the energy has to go to one driver or the other, with a parallel crossover you can actually overlap the frequencies in the 150Hz +/- range giving more body to the music. 2. If you look at the published frequency plot of the SB Acoustic mid-range used you will see it has quite a peak after the crossover point this is something that can be minimised by using a higher order crossover. The Adelaide speakers seem to use the same crossover for all of their speakers with tweakable tuneable option for each model. So to start Full xo redesign replacement and imodifying the mid range enclosure and adding bass tuning movable baffle." Seems like a good option. Edward does an amazing job at getting these beasts out for their price point. Some setups probably dont require an xo upgrade. As bad as the xo visually looks im sure it tests fine and is up to task. However if one wants to look at refining the speakers without going down the path of replacing them then an upgrade might be worth doing. My system is a bit revealing of harsh mids and sloppy bass so ill probably get this mod done at some stage. I didnt feel the need to do this when running a tube pre but now im straight from the dac to the maya i think it would tighten things up a bit. Ill post the results if/when i decide to get them modded... if i can fit them in the camry!!!
  7. Think ill get the crossovers upgraded too refine the mids and lower mids. Only thing i find is that sub 60 hz can be a bit unrully and 180 to 350 can be a bit wanting in my setup. When i checked the crossovers i thought some nails had been left in the box lol
  8. Well worth it imho. Hugh is a true gentleman and a very experienced engineer. I sold alot of musical equipment to keep my maya during some very tough 12 months and i dont regret it. I still have my trusty old vintage luxman out back but the Maya is out front to stay. I urge anyone to contact Hugh for an audition as you will not be dissapointed!

  12. Unfortunately another prized peice of the system needs to go to fund our unforseen circumstance. Upgraded Summoner 1293PSQTL 3- way floorstanders. 12" drivers with upgraded NRX papyrus mid cone.veneer is light oak. Amazing speakers. Very balanced. Great low frequency and kick. Nice imaging, depth and seperation. 40 kg per speaker I think. They are very heavy! Approx 12 months old.
  13. Sadly another relic must go. This iconic amp represents the pinnacle of Hughs experience and skill. Hugh built this entirely for me and is Still under warranty until September 2023. Amazing low end power mixed with the tubey seperation and refund mids and highs. A true local work of art, over engineered and built like A tank. She will be missed.
  14. Very regretful sale! I'm trying to raise funds as my partner cant work due to health so a few precious items need to go unfortunately. This preamp is a gem and has given my system a much wider and richer sound stage. Vocals are sublime and syrupy, depth and width are increased by atleast a foot in all directions with my s y stem. ( Maya 200 and adelaide ascension summoners). Beautifully hand crafted by @mwhouston in Melbourne. "After building yet another SRPP 6SN7 preamp for another, who had his onw tubes, I build this one to used the spare Psvane Grant Fidelity 6SN7 Spheres I had. A few changes from the previous one but similarities to others. Big difference is the colour - Hammertone Copper. Other preamps I have used the same colour but not with the Hammond Wood chassis. Similar to others with with the Danish Jensen copper paper and oil output caps. Before discontinued they were quite expensive. Other similarities are the final filter cap in the preamp which is a Russian PIO 4uf with a Russian 0.1uf snubber. Fine silver plated hookup wire and Alps Blue Velvet pot round it off with the 4oz solid brass gold plated knob. This time resin tube sockets and not the usual ceramic. Cheeks are treated with a high grade finishing oil which dries to a hard glossy wax finish while lifting the grain. Nice. Using an earlier PS which is choked and relies on an external 24VAC 1A wall wart I found the sound quite a jump up from all other preamps built with the same tubes. Also in this build I used 1W carbon film resistors except the grid resistor which is metal film. There is only three resistors in each channel and the two main Rs in the signal path are the carbon film. Ck is a low ESR type. Is this the carbon Rs the secret to the better sound or is the expensive caps? Whatever bass has a whole new depth and texture, mids crazily engaging and textured and treble super smooth and sweet. This preamp was built to sell and move on the spheres. Not sure that is going to happen any more." Check out the link below for preamp info. Cheers! http://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2021/08/cadence-srpp-6sn7-preamp.html?m=1
  15. I have the 12" summoners . ( with Maya 200 and tube pre) The space and image are huge ! I would like a bit more lower listening level slam ( bass upfront presentation ) but may need to add a sub to achieve this.
  16. Sorry everyone but I'm pulling this listing I've listed some relic 60's aussie made guitar amps , boutique coffee gear , guitars, speaker cabs before this goes. Can't Listen to alice in chains without this in the system! It keeps the highs and kills the digital harshness. Great work @mwhouston I've decided to keep it and sell all my other stuff!
  17. Further Information: Beautiful preamp. Jensen caps and Psvane Grant Fidelity 6SN7 Spheres with seperate psu. With my system ( rme adi2 dac , maya 200 and adelaide summoners ) the cadence Drastically Improved the soundstage and depth . bass is richer with more punch punch , mids (vocals) sound sublime. Recently looked over by builder and everything is perfect. Regrettable sale but I'm downsizing alot of my audio and music gear to help with bills due to my partners illness. Donation to stereonet on sale For specs and further build info hit link below. Cheers http://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2021/08/cadence-srpp-6sn7-preamp.html?m=1
  18. I scored this model off FB quite cheap and its a good performer. Headphone out too. It plays all my old random audio discs . Not fussy at all when it comes to format. Recommended.
  19. I havnt heard marantz but I have an early 80's luxman 1050r receiver and I adore it. It has the loudness function and sounds super rich and soulful. I had it side by side with a yamaha a500 and the luxman gave me goosebumps ! I spent nearly 8k on my main system and the old luxman paired with IMFs sound so damn good i question weather i needed to spend so much on my other system. The only thing with the luxman is that it is only 60 or 80 watt so it does not have the clarity or headroom. But sounds amazing at around 85db. Lots of slam and a richness that is very tubey. It just has that lovely 80's sound. Like high quality tape sound. If you can find an old luxy at over 90 watts rms you will be very happy. I havnt changed any caps as i just love the sound. It plays all kinds of music well.. but it feels a bit slow with faster rock like sonic youth. If i found another old luxman id get it in a heartbeat.
  20. I've not heard many other speakers. The Adelaide summoners and in general are definately a bargain. I feel they do require some room to breath and need a big amp and a big room to shine. The 12" summoners have huge bass and with the rew / dirac tests my roof and windows shake too. However getting that slam is hard at lower listening levels and require some eq. I find my old IMF supercompacts have a bit more lower level slam . I think they could have slightly better soundstage and depth but don't think could be beaten for the price. Maybe the crossovers could be better. Im intending to add sub to gain some extra slam from the kick drum which is what I feel is missing. These speakers will need atleast 200w poweramp I think and really pair well with a tube pre. I added a tube pre and the soundstage gained maybe half a foot! Lots more depth and smoothed out the upper mids alot.
  21. No probs. Rest up. Definateley dont lift those beasts ! I might by some and see how they go. Did ed give you the conical type ones? Cheers
  22. I was looking at spikes to tighten/ tame the lows on my 12" summoners. Did you end up trying the spikes with yours mate?
  23. Yep. I tried running the rme adi dac straight to the Maya but much prefer the thicker wider sound going through mark Houston's 6sn7 tube pre.
  24. I have the summoners. They are beasts. If you have a smaller room the timberwolves would be better. Very natural sound. Imagining is good but depth could be better but positioning is key. The are line trans design so bass is superb but the need some room from back wall to breath. If you go ascencion be sure to get the upgraded mid and x overs which is where they could do better. Value is outstanding and the cabinets are simply stunning. Edward is super helpful so drop him a line and tell him what your chasing. He will discuss your options. Goodluck and enjoy
