  1. Update for anyone who cares: I solved this issue recently with a relatively cheap master/slave energy saving powerboard.
  2. Hi all. I was recently given a JVC JR-S201. I want to use it purely for its amplification. It's in pretty poor shape. The speaker terminals have sustained some damage & are a little bent inwards & one of the terminals struggles to securely clamp onto the speaker wire. There is no tuning wheel & the rear bar antenna assembly is hanging on by a thread. However, as I never listen to FM, I can live without those. The very first time I powered it up I had 20-30 seconds of fairly loud static/hum/hiss but this hasn't happened since. I do get static whenever I a
  3. Is it? Well, I guess I am a peculiar type of guy. I know most people would probably pre-out to a dedicated stereo amp for this kind of thing, but I had a spare AVR & decided to play around. At the end of the day, the front end has a little more 'oomph' when playing in multichannel & the Yamaha has a spare 2 amps that I can assign to extra overheads down the line. For the time being I've just programmed the Harmony, so at least my lazy ass doesn't have to get off the couch. It's really not that big of a deal & chances are the Onkyo may eventually get replaced
  4. Hi Stereonet. Hoping someone can assist with the issue I'm having below. My setup: Sony X950H connected to Yamaha RX-V2085 AVR via eARC. The Yamaha is taking care of the C, S, B, Sub & Atmos speakers & an old Onkyo TX-SR608 AVR is powering the FL & FR speakers (connected via Yamaha pre-outs). The problem I'm having is when I tell the TV to switch to the external AVR speakers, only the eARC connected Yamaha powers on (as you would expect). To get audio from FL & FR speakers I have to manually turn on the Onkyo (first world problems, I know). I man
  5. LOL, the Mexican side & thanks
  6. Hi Stereonet. About me: Mid-40s HT enthusiast who lives on VIC/NSW border. Far from an audiophile, but appreciates quality 2 channel & loves good multichannel (movie buff for as long as I can remember). Lives rural, so can listen at reference volumes (when I have the house to myself). Started out with rubbish gear & have slowly worked my way up to the following: Paradigm series 7 - Monitor 11's, Surround 3's (x4), Center 3 & Ultracube 12 (+ a couple of repurposed old Sony speakers used as Atmos up-firing) Yamaha RX-V2085 Old Pana 50" pla
