  1. Yeah Im using optical, but its annoying to have to even do that & manually change inputs/power everything on individually. Plus optical is arguably lower quality. is it a hdmi version thing though? Would a newer tv, and therefore upgraded ARC, solve the issue? Or do these problems still exist even with new tvs?
  2. I have a sony KD65X8500C tv and have had HDMI ARC issues for quite some time. i previously had a Yamaha RXV673 and Intermittantly the sound would cut out & the display would go crazy, almost as if a cable was being plugged/unplugged constantly. switching off/on receiver/tv would fix it until it would then happen agsin a day later. Ive now got a Marantz NR1510 receiver & a similar thing happens but worse. Intermittantly, it starts off with a light crackling sound/sound distortion & then lets out a tremendously loud beep. Again, turning tv/receiver off solves it until it happens again. Aftee some research Im led to believe its HDMI. Ive tried multiple cables & it still does it. Even switched off some ARC features but it still does it. Im now using an optical cable as Im kinda forced to but dont really want to use it as its a pain having to switch power/channels etc independent to tv. TV was bought in 2012, so Is it just a matter of older HDMI connections not being as reliable so Id need to get a new TV? Is it a cable or receiver thing? (Though Im less convinced its these last two). Any suggestions?
  3. I just bought a Sony SA-WM40 sub on the cheap & Ive been reading about how modding it with poly-fill improves it dramatically. Have you heard of this and is it relatively safe to do? If you have any links on instructions/videos on how to do it to share that’d be great. cheers
  4. Thanks for the tips. Any recommendations on cable that wont break the bank? Ive got decent cable for my fronts but would just need it for my center & surrounds.
  5. Thanks for the tips. for the center, do you think not timbre matching is a problem though? By my ear they sound fine together as they are but then again Ive never had decent timbre matched fronts/center before so have nothing to compare against. Yeah Ive thought about a 2nd sub, but never behind us though? Thats an interesting one. Isnt it more traditionally left & right sub or does this not really matter? (Not that we’ve got space for it on the right anyway).
  6. Great advice, thanks guys. any thoughts on Brands/models & pairing? Good/bad/could be better?
  7. Sorry, meant opinions on the speakers/receiver. A projector would be great, but out of the question as we dont have the space. Cant go 7.1 or atmos for the same reason.
  8. Hi, I’ve recently upgraded my 5.1 home theater setup & keen to hear tips/opinions on my receiver/speakers & what could be improved or changed to better match. Im always on the lookout for better gear. Thanks in advance. My current setup: Receiver: Marantz slim NR1510 Fronts: B&W 685 (s1) Center: Polk CS20 (quite a beast, looking at picking up a B&W LCR60 S3 soon instead, perhaps will match better too) Sub: Jamo SUB210. kept the jamo as it does an ok job. Surrounds: Polk S10
  9. Hi all, Glad I stumbled across this site. Its hard to find like minded home theatre/music tech enthusiasts out there. Had a lousy Jamo 5.1 system for about 7 years before finally starting to upgrade my system recently. Much happier now but always on the lookout for tips/opinions on my setup & what could be improved/changed to better match. current setup: Receiver: Marantz slim NR1510 Fronts: B&W 685 (s1) Center: Polk CS20 (quite a beast, looking at picking up a B&W LCR60 S3 soon instead, perhaps will match better too) Sub: Jamo SUB210. kept the jamo as it does an ok job. Surrounds: Polk S10 A pic of my setup below. good to be here! cheers, Magookas
