  1. Further information: I received this cable as part of a purchase here on the forum. My understanding is that it is worth $1100 brand new. It's a beautiful cable that appears to be a combination of silver and copper wire. If you know Aurealis Audio, you'll know how beautifully made (and of high quality materials) his cables always are. The cable is in great condition with the only signs of use being on the 6.3mm connector shaft from being plugged/unplugged Updated with some info from Geoff at Aurealis about the wires that makeup the cable:
  2. Nice idea! I'll hopefully have some content to add here very soon thanks to @Bengineer lending me his UM MEST Mk2
  3. I've got these for review at the moment and I'm loving them. They have a wonderful slightly-warmer-than-neutral sound and they're super compact and comfortable.
  4. Wow. I knew about the MB Quart connection, but not the rest. Thanks for sharing that!
  5. Further information: These might be the most indestructible headphone on the planet (don't worry, I didn't test that on these). They're a great closed headphone for not too much money and have a fairly neutral tuning. They've stuck in my collection despite being not used often because I find them lovable in an ugly kind of way and I have had a hard time letting them go despite the fact they've been sitting in their box with the exception of a few specific tests of pads and comparisons with other headphones. Included in the sale are: The headphones Stock leather p
  6. Further information: I need to move on some gear to fund a special review opportunity that's come up. That, and my wife keeps counting my headphones every time she comes into my office ? Anyway, these were purchased secondhand, but have had only light use and are in great condition as you can see from the pics. The pads are absolutely brand new - not stock, but indiscernible from the original pads on the HE400i that I have here. They sound marginally better than the HE400i I think, but I'm keeping the 400i as the more 'pure' reference point for future reviews. Ther
  7. Hi Nada, hi-res music formats aren't designed to capture more audible information, but to allow shifting of the filtering noise further outside of the audible band and therefore give more room for the roll-off of those filters to be less aggressive (i.e. there's more room between 20kHz and 48kHz (half the sampling rate of 96kHz) than between 20kHz and 22.05kHz (half of 44.1kHz). There is also an argument to be made for better capture of spatial information due to the rapid variations of the sound waves in a complex piece of music as compared to sine waves. More frequent samples may assist the
  8. In some ways yes, but I have some albums that I want in my library for certain favourite tracks, but it doesn't make them a favourite album. It's quite possible Tidal behaved in the exact same way, but the playlists could be larger so I just made a "Favourite Albums" playlist. I guess I'll have to just download all my faves to my phone and use the offline files to identify my fave albums
  9. I'm having that issue too with Roon showing almost all albums as 16/44.1. During playback you can open the signal path and see the correct resolution, but it would be nice to see it on the album listings too. Haven't noticed any albums not showing up though. One other challenge I've found is that adding an album to your library in Roon favourites the album in Qobuz which means I can't rely on the favourites function to sort my favourite albums for when I'm out and about. Qobuz has a 1,000 track playlist limit too so I can't make a favourite albums playlist either
  10. I agree that when you can access pure FLAC files on Tidal there's no difference (or at least nothing definitive). The issue for me has become the significant number of releases where there are only "Master" versions available. That and the fact that Tidal seems to have multiple different versions of the same albums and they're poorly named. Not talking about Deluxe versions or Remasters, just inexplicable duplicate versions of identical albums. Between Master, non-master, deluxe, and remastered albums I just find Tidal to be a bit of a mess when I have to scour through so many options to find
  11. For those wondering why Qobuz sounds better, this might be the answer: I've just cancelled my Tidal subscription after seeing this and trying Tidal
  12. Further information: Very reluctant sale that I have tossed and turned over for months because it's not getting a lot of use, but I just LOVE it's sound. In the end, the need to buy more gear for reviews has gotten the better of me so it's up for sale... Still one of the very best DAPs you can buy. The Stainless Steel version is an improvement over all the other versions of the AK240. 14. I just tried a side-by-side comparison of two identical, non-MQA/Master files from Qobuz and Tidal. The differences are very, very small if not a figment of my imagination, but the moment "Masters" get involved, Qobuz runs away with it on sound quality. Availability of music isn't quite as good on Qobuz, but hopefully that will improve over time...
  15. It's not just you - it definitely sounds better than Tidal
  16. I'm an Android user - sorry. Seems to work well in Android Auto from very limited testing, but they're obviously very different platforms. Speaking of platforms, can anyone else in Aus find Qobuz as a service in their Sonos app? I can't add it for some reason.
  17. I just tried signing up for Qobuz again tonight knowing that it was due soon and after an initial message saying it wasn't available, it redirected to a local, Aus version of the site and I could sign up. I'm now listening to glorious true hi-res (no MQA here!) and rebuilding all my Tidal playlists. So far only 2 albums missing (Thirsty Merc AAA and any Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole). I'm loving the fact that I no longer have you carefully select the MQA or non- MQA version of each album, just deluxe or remastered versions. It makes it much easier to select the album I want
  18. I completely understand, @Higgsinspace - no apologies needed ? Thanks for the offer on the Dunus. I'm booked up through to July at the moment so being a bit selective with what I accept right now so as not to get swamped, but perhaps we can chat again later in the year. Really appreciate the offer!
  19. I'd love to, but I am SO in debt at the moment with the channel that someone will have to donate them or lend them to the channel for me to review these. I need to sell off a bunch of gear once I complete some specific upcoming reviews and then maybe I can go around again... @Higgsinspace did you receive the Monarchs yet? I've been trying to get a pair for months now (a demo unit so a bit different to a retail set)
  20. I don't know the seller, but I do know these IEMs - buy them! They are amazing and at this price are impossible to beat IMO
  21. LOL. I was chatting with work colleagues this week about that, saying how much I don't like hearing my own voice. I think most of us are like that it seems. As for the quiet tones, that's called my "baby is asleep in the room next door" voice ? Only my Oyaide neo d+ which I was planning to keep for the handy length
  22. Further information: I bought the WireWorld USB cable as part of an affordable USB cable comparison video I am releasing soon and while I didn't end up drawing any strong conclusions on the subjective quality of any of the three cables, I felt they were all much better made than most of the generic cables I've come across so even if you don't believe in USB cables changing the sound, this is a nicely made and still very affordable cable. For the sake of curiosity, the three cables in question were the Supra USB, WireWorld Chroma 8 (this one) and the Oyaide Neo d+ and th
