I run mine straight into a power amp and sounds amazing. A pre may colour it but without spending big $ ( multiples of what the dac costs ) I can't imagine any appreciable return on the extra cost. Every review I have read says the same.

I have the Ella's by Hulgich Audio and am constantly amazed at how good they are. These will make somebody very happy. Nick is a great guy to deal with as well.

Someone is getting an absolute bargain here. This is a stunning DAC and is a bargain at it's full RRP. At this price it is a steal.

I have owned one of these for about a year now. Unbelievably good DAC. For those who don't want filters, upsampling and all the other ' bells and whistles'. Can not recommend this highly enough and fantastic price. Some great reviews online from European mags and reviewers. Believe the reviews. GLWTS

Hi, In my experience yes they do make a difference but will largely depend on the room, system and your ears as we all listen differently and focus on different things. In my experience, if you already have decent cables, until your system gets to a certain level of resolution and detail you are less likely to hear appreciable changes with cable upgrades and will get far more bang for your $ upgrading elsewhere. Over the years while upgrading, the largest audible difference was the speakers...highlighted components strengths / weaknesses downstream. Swapping out power amp / DAC and transport all made very significant audible improvements / changes as well. Tried a number of different cables and most made a difference...some more than others and not necessarily for the better (to my ears). As a rule, the better the cable (usually more expensive ) the more noticeable the difference (again not always for the better or really justifiable ). Always subtle and never as big an improvement as changing components. I am running balanced interconnects and speaker cable from the same manufacture and series from back to front and am very happy with the result...about 15% of system cost. What you hear is a sum of the parts...I made many detours to get a system i am for now not looking to change anything with. Cheers.

Can't believe these are still available. Running Siltech 330 Classic Series cables through my entire system and are seriously great cables. Great price...almost worth buying at this price just in case I buy another source down the track and need to hook up. GLWTS

Am only selling as am downsizing my system and this is a monster amp! Was recently serviced / bench tested at Totally Technical in Brisbane and everything measured perfectly. The amp is in perfect working order though does have some slight external blemishes/ scratches as pictured below. N.B. It does not have a remote as was not originally supplied with one. No, still running CD, just my tastes have changed a bit and rationalising my CD collection a bit. Using a Moon CD transport into a Sonnet Morpheus DAC. Have been through a few DACs and the Sonnet is amazing.

Just swapped DACS out to a Sonnet Morpheus with the Ella Mk2's. As an above thread noted you really hear changes in source component with these speakers and the Morpheus is amazing in combination with the Ella's. Waiting on a couple of cable upgrades and should be finished...maybe!!!

Further information: Holo Audio Spring DAC Level 2. This was purchased from another SNA member about 4 months ago who purchased new from Aust Importer in June 2020. Great DAC as most people who are looking at this will already know. Only selling as upgrading to another R2R DAC. It does have a slight mark on the top plate corner above the control buttons (image 3 ) Hardly visible ( see image 1 and 4 ) except under light when photographing.
