Im running a very similar system.
although instead of apple tv or airport express, im using a HTPC.
you could do the same or even use a laptop. - using win 7 /media center
IMHO you can do a lot more on a PC and play a wide range of formats.
I currently have my itunes library stored on another PC connected to the network.
HTPC reads this and can play any of the songs (apple sharing turned on) through my main system.
to add to that, I also run VLC player to play all other file formats.
I use my iphone and ipad as remotes controls, both loaded with VLC remote to control whats playing, and the Apple App 'remote' which allows me to control itunes.
to top of it, running a internal BD drive on the PC and HDMI out to my amp.
you can always use a higher end sound card if you are wanting analogue outputs from the PC
Using the TV is a big computer screen.
if you arent PC savvy, then apple TV and other devices might be a better option

cheers for the info!
I think Im going back to play around with speaker placement

upon testing my proac clones I noticed I get a tonne of bass from them when I stand in the rear corner(s) of the room.
however when I sit on the couch directly in front of them, I noticed the bass disappears~ if I sit on the side couch I then get a nice full range sound. this is about 2 metres away from them
can anyway care to explain why this is happening?
I've since moved house since my last setup and I never had this problem.
tested my other diy scans and I get nice amounts of bass where ever I sit in the room~
If I put the clones into the corners of the room (front corners) I then get much better bass from them?
I assume something is up with the room acoustics, but not sure how to go about correcting it as i cant really leave the speakers in the front corners of them room
long post~
forgot to mention, the room is square, windows at the back of the room, only in one corner.
has a dome in the ceiling
the front where the TV is, use to be a fireplace but is now covered up, one side is recessed though
will try to attach an image of the room if people need it

Now fixed these, terminals seem to be nice and tight, tested and now working!
used hot glue to help secure them in place
I also have a spare Revelator driver 7" sitting around, and noticed scanspeak have changed their speaker terminals around since the classic series
I cant seem to upload anymore attachments on next post?

as some of you may know, im selling my proac clones in the sale thread and now on trademe.
I've advertised them with a few issues, and one of them being that the speaker terminals have snapped off on the mids.
I came across this when removing the drivers a while back and noticed the terminals had just snapped off
anyway, decided to buy a little sheet of copper today from hobby city, and cut some new terminals up!
pics below (snapped terminals)

Heres some other photos of the speakers and inside the cabinets
I sourced the crossover parts + XT25's from Cameron (Hasaudio), managed to get the 15w's from an overseas forum though
mid crossover section
tweeter crossover section
ive since lined the inside of the box with felt as well

cheers for the comments
yes they sound awesome
I need to pull the drivers out again, so I might end trying to seal them inside too.
Also the tweeters are not quite sitting flush, so will try* to sand around the edges (not sure how im going to do this without scratching the paint )
Im that in love with the scanspeak sound I also have revelators in my car
12m and illuminator tweeter shown

Now finished! got the painted at Sprayman in carr road, mt roskill
only paid $100 + GST
my only gripe is that they havent painted inside the ports
although I may have to remove the speakers and some how free up a little space around as the speakers are jammed in!
the finish is pretty good, marks easy and finger prints show extremely badly
little dusty
soldering the speaker cable on
Now finished!

if I got one of these CDs, I would most liklely rip it into PC format~
Im also interested in the Gold discs they have on these sites, whether they are a marketing ploy? or actually a lot better?
HDCD, another one! this is getting confusing
might look into those

cheers for the link, will check it out
Does anyone here own any XRCDs? are they worth the difference in price over normal CD's?
-
Just wondering if theres a place locally that sells reference CDs / high quality recordings?
Im quite interested in buying some from here (but would like to try locally first):

Can HD800 treble peak cause hearing damage?

I did find mine a little on the sharp side when using solid state setup, but then changed to an Aune T1 (DAC, tube preamp with golden lion, SS amp - all in one) and it smoothed the sound out.
Now running SMSL Sanskritt 6th edition with a darkvoice and have no issues with that treble spike.
I have no regrets purchasing these headphones.
Onto the 4th year now and replaced earpads/headband and new lighter cables and they feel brand new!
everyone has different head shapes/sizes, would recommend testing these. Headphones are such as subjective item..
mine fit perfectly and I dont even notice them after 10 minutes of wearing. (usually wear them for hours)
Would highly recommend these!
