Hi, I'm new to this forum and looking for some guidance on a good preamp for my setup. I'm mostly a gamer with chat over discord, listen to music and the usual stuff on PC. I currently have an Audio Technica AT2035 mic which I have connected to a Yamaha MG10XU as my audio interface.
I've have the mic plugged directly into the mixer using XLR cable but people on discord tell me that I sound really quite. I've been messed around with some settings on the mixer and in windows but it doesn't seem to make much difference, btw im using windows 7. I was thinking about investing in a preamp to boost the mic before getting into the mixer and then applying the compression and a little EQ within the limitations on the Yamaha. The preamp I have been looking at is the BEHRINGER MIC500USB VACUUM TUBE MIC PREAMP. Its only about $100 and i'm happy with that but i want to make sure I'm not going to create some issues in the process. I was thinking about using a TSR to XLR balanced cable to connect the two but not sure if the direct out on the preamp will be a line level or not, my gut feeling is it will be but being a noob I would rather get some experts opinions.
I'm also looking to get a new set of headphones for Christmas, possibly the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO Closed Studio Headphones (250ohms) but haven't even started looking at what amp I will need to drive them. I don't know if the Yamaha mixer will have enough juice to do them justice or if I will need another amp to boost the signal.
Any thoughts on the preamp issue or if the mixer will drive my possible new headphones..?
Thanks in advance
