  1. Does anyone here use the wondery app to listen to the various podcasts from wondery? If so, does the app work for you (on an iPhone)? I really like some of the podcasts produced by wondery, and I really prefer to listen to them ad-free -which the app is meant to do. But to me, the app is useless and is just not workable. Between frequent crashes, getting logged out all the time. Waiting for ages for it to load etc etc etc.. is it just me or do others report the same?
  2. another Toowoomba person here… before you venture down the hill to Brissie, check out Sound Station here in town. Blair is always happy for a chat. PS good to see another Toowoomba person here.
  3. Hi all, Anyone here in Toowoomba - and would like to have some type of get togethers for music listening and chats? g
  4. I’ve looked at the btr3 and the btr5 and they both intrigue me - particularly the btr5. But I am confused with one thing though. Being a Bluetooth/dac, (with a BT connection from the iPhone to the btr5), then does mean the signal I get to my wired head[hones (-lugged into the btr5) is just a standard Bluetooth audio signal? Or does it go through the dac on this device and then played through the headphones at the high resolution of the file? I guess what I am trying to say, if I have this device connected via bt to my phone, then how is the dac in this device being used because I am thinking my phone is just sending the audio signal from my iPhone via Bluetooth. Does this make sense? let’s put it another way - knowing the Bluetooth bandwidth limitations - if I Bluetooth connect a btr3 or btr5 to my iphone, then play a qobuz hi-res 24bit 192khz file from the phone, then will the wired headphones plugged into this device play the audio downsampled to the Bluetooth limitation, or will the headphones play the music as 192khz? If it is downsampled, then what is the point of the dac in this device? If the file is played at 192khz, then how is that transferred via Bluetooth? Is it upsampled in the dac from the Bluetooth connection? I’m just trying to get my head around how these Bluetooth DACs work…
  5. Hi all, I’ve got some international flights coming up over the next few months and am wanting to get some good wired noise cancelling headphones to plug into a dac that then goes into the lightning port on my iPhone 13. I am also thinking of the “FiiO JadeAudio KA1 Headphone Amps Tiny Amplifier USB DAC” because it has the lightning connector. I don’t want to go the Bluetooth connection to the phone for the headphones as I want the hi-res. I am interested in the B&W px7 s2 and using the wired capability of that - and not the Bluetooth functionality. But would I then be paying for the Bluetooth functionality in the headphones when I am not actually using it - and instead, maybe better off getting some cans at about the same price that are wired only (and thinking the quality may be better). so what wired headphones do people recommend in the $500 price range - or should/would the b&W be good (and then having the bonus of the Bluetooth should I ever want to use it). I do prefer hi-res though and not be limited to the limited Bluetooth path. secondly, any comments on the FiiO JadeAudio KA1 Headphone Amps Tiny Amplifier USB DAC? I need one that has a lightning connection tor on it - and I don’t want to muck around with adapters.
  6. I haven’t don’t the survey above - simply I don’t like doing them. But I will say, I absolutely love Roon. Been a daily user for 4 years and I have no regrets. To me, it is an essential item. I also subscribe to both Tidal and Qobuz and I also have a large collection based on my local NAS. Roon sees it all, the search function is transparent -in that it seamlessly searches my library and also tidal and qobuz - plus roon radio (the functionality where it continues playing random songs after it finishes my selection is a great way to find new artists. Then there is the information presented as they say, in an interactive magazine format. Too-me, roon is the perfect and required add-on for any large internet connected library. but, I don’t use ARC. I just stream from either tidal or qobuz when I am out and about. All my favourites are mapped to either anyway. so big vote for me….
  7. Hi all, is anyone having problems connections their apple music account to soundiiz? I am. My tidal and qobuz account connect perfectly, but Apple Music always gives me an error - even after I use the correct password and the 6 digit pin they send to my other devices. Just can’t connect my apple music to soundiiz. most annoying…..anyone else with the same issue?

  9. Hi all, has anyone here bought a Wiim pro plus from a supplier in australia? If so, who did you buy it from and did they have the stock? Basically, is there any alternative to Amazon? thanks
  10. I recall Faye also had a Karman Ghia at one stage too…. yes - the mid to late 80s, and early 90s was when I was a frequent visitor to the shop. It was like a chaotic or hobbyist version of heaven. Pat was always the helpful and happy person, Faye was the boss and Charles was the big eyed kid. That’s how I remember the place - as well as all the rooms and the HUGE collection of second hand gear. The place was like a maze at various times too. basically, the way a hifi shop should be.

  12. Hi all, has anyone installed acoustic foam panels in their listening room? If so, what is good and what is not - and where did you get them? also, how did you attach them to the walls? thanks
  13. I actually bought a pair of psb alpha p5 speakers recently - and they sound magical when hooked into my nad d7050. Great match. thank you @Sound Station Toowoomba.
  14. I still don’t know why people say that. both Bluos and roon are advertised as the ultimate way to manage, listen and stream music. They both say that. Searching on google draws many other discussions that compare the two. So why can’t people here compare them? Sure they use different methodologies but in a holistic sense they do the same thing - that is, manage your music sources and give the ability to play different music in different zones in your house. I started this discussion because of the lack of experience with bluos and also because I have only recently acquired a Bluos device. But after using bluos for a few days, as a beginner, I thought I may have been missing something - as personally, I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. Hence asking for people who do use Bluos to give me a sales spiel. the only good thing I really liked was the tunein functionality. but, I agree now - there no comparison. Roon is so much better. The UI is more natural, it gives me the ability to select zones and play music in different zone and the information presented to the user far exceeds what Bluos provides. Plus, the searching is transparent to the subscribed services - meaning one single search checks all my sources (I don’t think Bluos does this although I could be wrong). I like having my own roon server (which is a dedicated nuc) and my library is on my nas. It is all indexed via roon and the ui for all my players is simply fantastic. Plus the combination of tidal and qobuz as streaming services means all that music (including mine) is presented in one informative and seamless interface. Roon is great for streaming as it seamlessly puts streaming content into your library. ‘yep - there is no comparison. Except the tunein functionality in Bluos. I know I will probably be shot down saying this. But this is what I have found after spending my limited free time going through Bluos. some people drive fords - others drive holders, and they each swear their brand is better. It is funny how we get so tribal, and many cannot see the big picture in that they are all cars which are built to do one thing. That is, to get people from point a to point b. At least I can now say I have driven both.
  15. No - I am not being confused by what roon radio is. I regularly use it by letting roon continue after my selection finishes, and that is why I said in my original post that I enjoy that functionality- especially when tidal and qobuz are setup as services. the live radio menu option is ok, but the Bluos tunein option is much better though. There are many stations that don’t appear in the roon live radio selection. I realise I can add them in, but the power of tunein in aggregating many stations, and offering the ability to search for specific stations is great. I just wish the roon “live radio” was as comprehensive.
  16. Ok, if they are not meant to be compared - then why? Both are saying they allow for the managing and playing of your music and giving you, the listener, the ultimate experience? I am not talking about how they do it. So why can’t you compare Roon to BluOS? Tell me the differences…. What am I missing?
  17. I disagree with you. Both roon and Bluos both describe themselves as “giving you the ultimate music experience” Sure Bluos uses a different methodology to do that compared to roon, but in a holistic sense, both are about managing your music sources and providing the ability to control and source your music in potentially multi-room environments. so saying they are completely different products is just wrong. I agree they use different technologies and methodologies but they each have the same goal - that is, trying to present the user with a better and easier to manage experience when listening, choosing and playing music. so back to my original question, give me a “sales spiel” on why Bluos is better than roon?
  18. Hi all, I am a happy and proud longtime Roon user and I think it is great. It seems to add a layer on top of my music and the various services I subscribe that allows me to just enjoy and discover the music. To me, roon is like an aggregator and also provides rich information in a great looking UI. I have only recently had the opportunity to also use BluOS and I must say I find it very underwhelming. Sure it connect to both tidal and qobuz but I can’t seem to find a way to simultaneously explore their catalogues- that is, I can explore either tidal or qobuz separately and this exploration process doesn’t seem as “musically driven” compared to roon. To me, Bluos seems to be computer ui based whereas the ui for roon seems to be more focussed on the music. Maybe I a, using Bluos wrong? I note that Bluos allows me to have multiple zones - but I can have multiple end points in roon too (and I can direct music to those endpoints). One thing that Bluos does give though is direct access to tunein (radio). I do like the roon radio functionality though but this is very different to the internet radio stations featured on tunein. But, combined with tidal and qobuz, the roon radio really does help me to find new music. I do sometimes though listening to a real radio station and that is where the tunein functionality within Bluos is great. so to me, roon is a much better experience but I admit I am more experienced with roon. So what am I missing with Bluos that I have missed. Sell me on Bluos…..
  19. Has Anyone with a nad c3050le been able to get roon to recognise the amp? If so, how? my nad c3050le is seen in roon, but is listed as not being roon ready or certified, therefore I can’t enable it. But I believe others have so did you enable it?
  20. Hi all, anyone else having problems in paying a qobuz track in Bluos? I just cannot do it and it keeps giving me an error. I can scan my qobuz collection, see my favourites etc in the Bluos, but not play anything. Qobuz works fine when -laying though its own app, likewise works great through roon - but not via Bluos. anyone have or had the same problem?
  21. That looks interesting. I’m not concerned about drilling a hole in the shelf (it was only yesterday that I drilled a small hole in the floor to feed a network cable through. Couldn’t get a cable in via the roof space so had to come from underneath. The wife just shook her head and walked out of the room. I don’t believe in wifi).
  22. It’s great to have good insurance, but what if you have good gear that can’t be replaced? Ie, not made anymore. I’d like to protect and KEEP my gear because I know I can’t buy it again and I also know I won’t be happy with any newish gear.
  23. Hi all, does anyone know what the devices are called that you can sit under an appliance, - ie an amplifier that sits on a bench, and when that appliance is lifted up, then a loud alarm or shrill goes off- or alternatively, sends a signal back to a monitored alarm system. This is the same type of device you see in the movies when someone lifts up a museum piece and then alarms go off. What is that device called? Secondly, does anyone have such security on their units? I already have external cameras and a separate monitored alarm system, but I would like to have an extra layer of security too. we have a youth crime issue in my area and I want to protect my audio investment as much as possible. thanks
