  1. Glad more people are enjoying Musical Paradise gear. Garry’s stuff is really great value and he provides good after sales support. I don’t have this pre-amp but I’ve got the MK3 DAC and also his phono stage and they all use similar tubes and caps. I’ve really enjoyed the 6h23p tube https://www.thetubestore.com/6h23n-eb-6922 as well as a few different 6DJ8 and have found i really enjoyed all of them. I’ve upgraded most of the capacitors to Mundorf Silver Oil and also on the advice of @tntman some Jantzen Superior caps and some bypass caps. I think it sounds pretty damn good.
  2. Hey all, I’ve recently purchased a couple of PSVANE WE845 tubes for my amp. They probably have got about 60 or so hours on them now and i notice that one of the tubes makes a ‘pinging’ sound even once warmed up. I’m used to hearing the typical ‘pinging’ sound in my tube gear as tubes cool down but haven’t heard it before while they are up to temp and running. The pinging is occasionally audible through the speaker as a slight hiss in time with the pinging. Switched the tubes around and it’s definitely the tube not the socket. Looks like the pinging tube has a brownish colour at the bottom of the tube compared to the silent one. I’m not sure if this is something larger tubes like this do or if it’s got a small fault.
  3. @kiefertw - only had Matt's old Oldchen for a few days but the current setup (as he mentioned above) sounds fabulous. Very similar to my old Musical Paradise MP-501 (https://www.musicalparadise.ca/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55) but with more flexibility in the tube selection, so given that the MP-501 is already a bargain this Oldchen is superb. I like it a lot more than the current darling of low cost ChiFi tube amps, the Willsenton R8, which i owned for a short time. I just couldn't get a sound i enjoyed out of that one.
  4. Further information: Purchased this in May from another SNA member I've converted to using LCR pre-amps so the Doge 8 needs to find a new home. Original model from around 2012 with remote. In excellent condition for it's age and works perfectly. Includes a MM/MC phono stage using 12AX7 tubes - the MM apparently is superb while the MC is a bit more average. I've upgraded all the line level inputs to NOS JAN GE 12AT7's as per recommendations here https://www.noteperfect.com.au/doge.htm and it makes a huge difference to the sound. Original chinese 12AX7s included in the sale as well. This review explains the fantastic value to performance of this unit http://www.stereomojo.com/Doge 8 Preamplifier Review.htm/Doge8PreamplifierReview.htm and so does this one https://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/doge8_preamp_e.html and finally some reviews from SNA members I have the original box so shipping is no problem at buyers cost. 5. Further information: Purchased this off SNA member @Rhythm Willie just over a month ago - see the original ad here It's a fabulous tube based pre and competes suprisingly well with my Doge 8 (also for sale!) but i've coverted to the Church of Stereo Coffee (tm) and so this is surplus to requirements. I've been using the same setup as the original owner - JJ gold pins in the 12AX7 slots, Mullard 12AU7 and the ElectroHarmonix 5U4GB as the rectifier. The original owner also kindly threw in a whole bunch of extra tubes - see the photo. All of these come with the pre unless the owner doesn't want them. Some of them are a bit noisy but all the JJ's seem quite. Good condition for its age - some discolouration on the chrome due to age which could probably be polished off if thats your thing. Shipping is fine - no original box but can be packaged well. 6. Well to be honest I seem to be some kind of DAC junky but my current choice is my Musical Paradise MK3 which has been upgraded and is running some early 60s bugle boy tubes
  7. The latest Holo Spring 2 DAC probably doesn't need much introduction but specs are here: https://cruxaudio.com.au/products/spring-dac-level-2-red-label-r2r-dsd Compared to the Level 1 edition Standard capacitors are replaced with Audio-Grade Jensen 4700 microfarad / 63 Volts added for ultimate power filtration and improved sound quality – For sound effects are more relaxed, transparent and details are more apparent. Purchased from Crux Audio in May 2020 for $3300 (well $3298 to be precise!) and arrived in 5th June - Save $850 (and a six week wait) to get one thats less than two months old - will provide proof of purchase to the new buyer for warranty - 34 months left One small mark on the case as shown on the photos but otherwise excellent. Comes with remote and all original packaging, including double box. Shipping Australia wide included in price - insurance (if wanted) at buyers expense. Price is firmer than well done steak. There is a review of the *previous* version here - the new version does include a remote and significantly improved USB interface compared to the old model:
  8. Just curious and possibly novice question - would you have to run balanced cables from the outputs as well ? or can you then use normal RCA for your outputs ?
  9. No worries. If you’d like more photos just let me know
  10. Hi Jim, the first photo where I’m holding it in my hand. The scratch can be seen at 12 and then slightly to the left.
  11. I think so. I’d only suggest purchasing this if someone was going to use it as a wifi streamer like I did
  12. Totally inactive. No lights on and no IP assigned from my router.
