  1. Finally getting around to watching Suits ! Absolutely loving it. And it's a great feeling to know I have 7 seasons stacked up ready to watch. Great vinyl collection but its a shame about the Klipsch speakers.
  2. Dammit just bought a SR6012 ex demo for about the same price.
  3. Hey guys, Just an update on where I got to with the home cinema project. After plenty of research I ended up going the more traditional path of a media room instead of a home cinema. There were a few reasons but I realised I could get a 85" Sony X85F for about the same budget I was considering for a 100" screen and 4k projector. The room orientation and window just wasn't ideal for a projector based system. Plus the projector idea had low WAF. I have attached some pictures of the finished project. I went with the Qacoustics 3050i speaker set that WhatHifi rave about, they are fantastic sounding to my ears, especially for the budget. I use the Velodyne SPL1000 subby i bought second hand here instead of the Q acoustics one as its far better. I have also completed the cable runs for the in-ceiling ATMOS speakers so will purchase those in a couple of months, although I have to say my system is really enjoyable without it. The Sony is a great TV although in a dark room uneven backlighting is quite obvious to me when watching movies with the black bands top&bottom, even with the TV on lowest brightness setting. One day I may upgrade to an OLED/QLED once the price comes way down. The Apple TV has been a great buy as well, I prefer to use it over the inbuilt Android TV functionality. The 4K HDR content from the Itunes store is amazing - so for now I have not bothered with a Bluray player. The mother in law made up the thick blackout curtain which blocks out most light from the room and made a noticeable sound improvement for the centre channel. I will in future add acoustic panels on the side walls for the first reflection point. I've included some budget/cost information - hopefully it helps anyone looking into this. Time to watch a movie..
  4. I'll take. AIR - Moon Safari - 2018 repress on GLOW in DARK vinyl (0190295694562) SEALED, NM/NM. Brilliant album and on limited 'phosphorescent' novelty vinyl. $28
  5. It’s a bit of a mess at the moment - will probably take a couple of weeks before it’s more tidy.
  6. I ended up taking the easy and less expensive route here and went with a wall mounted 85" Sony X85F for the screen and a Q acoustics 3050i package in walnut for the speakers. The boss ended up being fine with the floor standing speakers if it meant not having a projector pole hanging down in front of the window there and dealing with the extra complexity of a projector PLUS cutting holes everywhere for in wall speakers. Everything fits nicely along that same wall pictured above with the old small TV without having to move the door. I have to say that the 85" for us is a great sized screen for the room dimensions. At first it felt a bit ridiculous to have such a big screen but as you well know everyone gets use to the size quickly. This is a fantastically detailed and great performing TV, however blacks are still a bit limited compared with OLED, there is a bit of uneven backlighting during entirely black moments. I haven't done much calibration of the screen just yet. https://store.sony.com.au/television/KD85X8500F.html https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/q-acoustics-3050i-51-cinema-pack I also picked up an Apple TV 4K because I have Apple everything anyway and have been really happy with the 4K HDR quality. I quickly replaced the existing Android TV functionality built into the Sony with the Apple TV, and like being able to control everything with the discrete and stylish Apple TV remote. I am now a big fan of HDMI CEC which makes controlling the most important functionality on the AVR/TV and Mediaplayers so easy. A few things left to do are - Complete cable runs and install bull nose / brush plates. - Find a suitable floating under TV unit for the AVR/Centre Channel/Bits and bobs. - Buy ATMOS in-ceiling speakers and cut out the holes and hook those up. - A curtain for the back wall, and acoustic panels for the side walls for the first reflection point for the centre channel - Lots of tuning and speaker placement fiddling. Thanks for the help everyone.
  7. You can do a virtual walk through of the store as well, although if you are in Sydney stop what you are doing and get down there! https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/about-us/demonstration-facilities.html
  8. I suspect the challenges you are having relates there being very little money in car audio, at least thats what hifi/home cinema retailers tell me whenever I ask. And well I guess the standard of music systems in cars is much better than they used to be? As to the Lifestyle Store I went there last week for the first time on a visit to Sydney and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how good this store is. There are numerous (9?) listening rooms for 2ch hifi gear, and 7 impressive home cinema rooms as well. It did make me think going to the Chestergroup Hifi show this year was not as great as heading down to the Lifestyle Store any day of the year. The rooms are properly designed and treated, and they had a broad range of speakers & separates for the brands they stock enabling me to easily compare my current system with potential upgrades. The car audio section at the back looked quite extensive too but I didn't spend any time there.
  9. A few pics of the existing room. We demolished a wall mounted wardrobe today and needs some patching up. We have almost finished a study nook nearby so can move desk/computer stuff out soon. The existing seating/tv will all go as well. The door cant open outwards as its an access point to two other doors. A folding door might be an option though although not fitting with the style of the house.
  10. Great work documenting this with so many photos. Is only having 3 seats a problem for your household? We are a family of four so need space to seat 4. Our kids are young enough though so can be punted onto bean bags if we have friends or family over for a movie session. Wow 110" only 2.8m away, I will have an extra 70cm distance with using the long wall with a lounge suite against the wall. Maybe I could go bigger. Im looking at OZTS as well, chatted to Richard today who is preparing a quote on an AT Majestic screen. He mentioned the new models of JVC projectors are delayed due to a design fault leaving a big hole in the competitive landscape for 4K projectors Did you consider in wall speakers? The room does look very busy with speakers and trinkets, is your missus happy to sit in there on a regular basis or is this more of a man cave?
  11. Thanks Mikey. Thats really valuable info. Have you also heard the symmetrix in-walls too? The dealer locator seems to be broken on the Krix website so I dont know where I can audition these just yet (Northern NSW/GC is best for me) . I heard some paradigm in-wall gear which sounded good (the canadian made 8" range, not the made in china range) but not side by side with anything else. I'll measure up that idea about different orientation. That would be where cinema seating would probably work better as they are quite compact and there should be some space to walk by them and sit down.
  12. Hey guys, Im working on setting up an existing room in our 1910's queenslander style wooden house as a HT room. I have drawn up a diagram of the room here with all the dimensions and the location of windows/doors etc which I know you guys need in order to provide constructive feedback. https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1q6DVDFOsshtJjU2N3no66o4ehQPyYI_VsnCgXXm6xDg/edit?usp=sharing The room dimensions aren't exactly roomy, and it looks like I need to have my seating against the longer wall instead of the best practice setup. My current thinking is as follows - Screen: 100" AT screen with LCR in-wall speakers behind the screen. Wifey is worried this is too big but all the calculators Ive used and hifi sales folk all say it will work well with a 3.5m seating distance. - Speakers: 5:1:2 configuration with Krix Symmetrix Inwall speakers (70mm inwall depth with back cover) - Krix in-ceiling Atmos speakers (anyone heard these in action?). I have an existing Velodyne SPL-1000 thanks to @DamonsHIFI - Projector: Epsom TW9300, or if I can find the budget a 4K Sony or JVC projector - AVR: Marantz SR6012 (ex demo/floor stock) - Unnu floating cabinetry below the HT screen for storage of AVR/Apple TV 4K/TV tuner etc. - Room changes: Carpet the room (currently floorboards), a thick lined curtain across most of the back wall to block light from the window (avoiding rear speaker position). Switch the door to open the other way (??). Paint the room to be a darker colour. - 4 or 6 Acoustic panels on the side & back walls - We visited the Lifestyle Store and loved the starlight ceilings so may build a bulk head with lighting and the starlight gyrock setup as well. Part of getting the wife excited about this project. Given its an existing room I don't really have any way to sound insulate the room better to stop leakage into the rest of the house. Im just going to have to live with that in our house, we typically watch movies together as a family anyway. I don't really have any specific questions at this stage, but just thought I would put the plan out there and see if anyone has any feedback or concerns or alternative ideas. Im referring to https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/dolby-atmos-speaker-setup/5.1.2-overhead-speaker-setup-guide.pdf for speaker placement ideas. Unfortunately the seating area wont be able to be much away from the wall (5-10cm). Ceiling is also quite high but apparently fine for atmos. The window is also kinda in the way of where the projector will be, I was thinking of building a box just above that 2600mm height to contain the projector. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
  13. Im interested in: Rod Stewart Greatest Hits 5 Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water VG+ 8 The Beatles White Album Australian VG+ 10 Postage to 2480 I'd be interested in the Def fx album as well but the price is a bit steep for me.
  14. That system was incredible to listen to, the highlight of the CG show for me, although not anywhere near my league at half a million in gear?
