  1. I think 6 ohm and rated to about 200 watts for the Mk 2. You may be able to access their obsolete web page with a cached search page. Have a google.

  3. Thanks guys. Thought the balanced vs usb connection was part of the culprit. Just wanted to give the MF dac a go but also wanted to try to set up computer via usb in case I get a new dac and want to go via this setup. In a way I thought the MF had a bit more detail in the sound. Will have a better listen today. The oppo should by rights beat it. It does have a much more impressive sound and more dynamics. Unfortunately I have a set of ears these days that need a refurbish or something. Shame can't do to our ears what can be done to eyes.
  4. Hoping someone can help me here as I am a little bit technically inept at times. I downloaded JRiver and got my music library loaded. I then set the laptop up as best as I could to play through the Usb output. The line level output must be low as I had to have the amp up quite a bit higher to achieve the same volume as the oppo played through Xlr. I assume there is a setting in Jriver or settings on the computer to raise the output voltage. I would like to get the MF working to give it a fair go. It seemed to be a fair Dac but did lack the punch and warmth of the oppo. That may not be the best
  5. Thanks John The pre dac is the same as the integrated dac i am told. Will probably end up giving it a go out of curiosity. I have a good dac sitting there that I haven't tried. The tricky part is getting my wife's laptop and downloading the software for jriver without her knowing. You say the MF upsamples and that is something I don't think the Oppo does. Don't know if upsampling is spooky science or not but there are those that swear by it. I assume upsampling is the same as upscaling that people spend thousands on or is this different.
  6. Hi Guys Have an Oppo 105 Dac i run into a Musical Fidelity M6s pre. I use a hard drive with flac files plugged into the oppo and run the music into the pre amp via balanced cables. I have been wondering if I will get any improvement running through a laptop and Usb into the port in the back of the pre amp. To do it I have to get my wife's laptop and install jriver. Not a huge deal but I thought there may be someone that has an MF 6 and an oppo that has compared them. My mind tells me that the oppo will be the better of the two. The dac in the pre is the same as what's in most of th

  8. Thanks for the informative reply AIM. The Xindak is a well built amp I agree. I think the integrated is a similar build to the mono blocks. Living in what could be called a remote place as far as Hifi shops are concerned does make it hard to hear anything without several hundred ks travel. I may well have made a bad choice but this passion is about trying to improve the sound of the music we hear. Have much enjoyed the sound of the Xindak. Nice rich warm sound to my cheap uneducated old ears. The next step if required may have to be in the second hand market.
  9. They are Bose 901. Went ahead and ordered the amp so will find out one way or another. They are very power hungry due to the equaliser. The Xindak does seem to run them nicely but don't want to die not knowing if there is something better out there.
  10. Wow been on this site for a while and didn't know this thread existed. Better info here than half the BBQ threads. Have a few camp ovens a gasser and Kamado all built into an out door kitchen. Seems two of my passions are covered on one site. How good is that. The kamados are great for pizzas. You never stop learning.
  11. At present have a MF M6 preamp running into a Xindak A600 being used as a power amp. It is a 160 watt AB biased 30 watt class A. Wondering if I will get an improvement switching to a M6 PRX musical fidelity. The MF will probably have a bit more grunt. Realise that maybe not a lot have heard the Xindak so may be a tough call to make. Thanks
  12. Thanks so much guys. This is the help I was after. Glad I posted here for some good advice. My last MF amp lasted me 25 years so I know they make good gear.
  13. Oh okay will take under consideration then. The grey import puts a dark side into the deal.
  14. Okay Thanks Pete. Seems may be above board and with the advertised warrantees guaranteed then. They have PayPal so hopefully is safe.
  15. No pretty sure it is in Sydney. The map shows an area in Sydney and is an au website. Is UK bad
  16. Hi Has anyone bought MF amps on the website on gumtree. Full range of gear. Listed as in the Carlingford district Its got a high recommendation. They have a fairly good discount on them.
  17. Hi does anyone know if this problem with the power supply module goes across to the M6prx power amp. Being different out put they may have a different power supply. Has any one heard of or experienced problems. Thanks
  18. I used a Yamaha PX10 pro amp which is D class and rated at 1000 watts. I found it quite good but a bit harsh in the highs. Bass was good. Pro amps are great bang for bucks and wattage is cheap. Ran very cool and the fan was as quiet as a mouse. They are a cheap way to power subs.
  19. I always liked the forbidden planet. Great classic just a shame Leslie Nielsen didn't have his fart cushion with him back then. Is this really where the name of the Krell amps was taken from? Have often wondered.
