  1. Item: Tube Phono Stage Price Range: Under $700 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: Looking for an MM phono preamplifier below $700. Any tube phono stage such as a used Vincent PHO 701, Project Tube Box Series, Hagerman, etc. is okay. Ideally should have a low noise floor.
  2. Item: Ortofon OM Cartridge (Any OM cartridge, including OMB and Super OM) Price Range: Under $50 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: Need an OM cartridge to fit a new Ortofon Stylus 20 on it, and I currently don't have an OM cartridge. Am willing to buy any OM cartridge, regardless of what stylus is on the cartridge.
  3. For the Bottlehead, what's the significance of the Zout being 4k ohms which makes it a bad choice for a preamp?
  4. This is secondary to sound quality, but is there anything similar along the lines of what you suggested that has visible tubes? I do very much like the visuals of tubes as well.
  5. Thanks for your reply Misterioso. I guess you saw my other post on these forums asking for a phono stage recommendation as well. Splitting the funds differently is something that I am definitely open to, but I am having a little trouble balancing the funds due to my want for a tube preamp as I am looking for tubes specifically. Could you possibly direct me to a specific model in AT's VM range that could be suitable?
  6. I had the opportunity to listen to a tube preamp (I don't know which one) overseas, and I enjoyed the sound. I currently have a Rega Fono MM mk3 that I might eventually sell off. I wanted to try out a tube preamp to see how it sounds, as I've never tried one in my setup before.
  7. Thanks Peter_F. I have heard that the AT95E is a good cartridge. However, to the best of my knowledge, the AT95E is very similar to the Linn K9, and would not be much of an upgrade. Is this true? Also, I have also heard that the AT95E is a medium compliance cartridge, and would be too light for my TP-11 mk3 arm, which would be best with a high compliance one.
  8. I have a Thorens TD-166 mk2 with a TP-11 mk3 arm and a TP-63 wand. I am looking to upgrade my Linn K9 cartridge, and I am looking for some suggestions for a MM cartridge in the $100 range or below. As far as I am aware, the TP-11 mk3 arm has a very low arm mass, so it needs a very high compliance cartridge. The headshell appears to screw on from the bottom, so I was worried that a lot of cartridge options would be limited by this. Any suggestions for a decent cartridge in the $100 range or below? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for your reply. It seems a little bit out of the budget for me. Currently, under $900 is really stretching the budget for me.
  10. Hi rantan, I don't think this phono stage is a tube phono stage, it seems like it's just a solid state.
  11. Hi all, I'm looking at getting a tube phono stage for a MM cart at around $500 - $700 AUD. Are there any decent options available at that price? I'm not too keen on doing any DIY as I have never tried anything of the sort before. I also don't mind if it's used gear or new. EDIT: Changed budget down to $700
