  1. Looking good, as long as Leo, doesn't take on Chewing Pine
  2. Hopefully allowing that others again, don't, and instead love the opposite
  3. Hi Pal For listening to CD's you might want to consider a 5 disc player which might assist with less changing of CD's. Another two options are Yamaha's hard Disk Recorders, or Sony's PS3 see:
  4. Hi Shane Welcome, you have two very nice systems.
  5. In your opinion. ..... In consideration of @JeffH equipment, of course the fixed load shunt resistance @10k exampled by the M2 Meridian specification, can be absolved of influence, to nevertheless work extremely well with a volume control. A later specification has this resistance at 11k. also highly to Meridians knowledge of standards ,was the sensitivity of the M2 , enabling it to work with modern DAC's like the Denafrips Ares 2
  6. I am trying to approximate the WAF factor
  7. The reasons have been provided objectively, but as it seems not understood , but happens to also agree with the subjective opinions as well "With the volume turned up to 3 quarters it's not particularly loud at all." Audio karma forum "it's starting to make sense why some people said the FOSI V3 has "not enough power." It's not the output watts, I think it's the line's input level." Audio Science Review
  8. The figures to observe are what Texas Instruments quote as Peak to Peak level on page 26, as 3.9v , which means the amplifier provides its stated output with that level of input, Now compare to actual everyday levels that sources output which is peak to peak 0.894V , which is caused by the media being played and not the devices capability. Calculating then we find on page 8 , what appears as impressive output of 315 watts into 4 ohms, until we factor the input level that media outputs which is 4.36 times than the specification , less , which as a result is now just 72.24 watts , and making matters worse is at 10% Total harmonic Distortion. Also factor the source output is dividing in half and 36 watts with 10% distortion is 1000 worse than amplifiers manufactured in 1959 . To give you hope, compare to this amplifier that matches near perfectly the actual level of media being played so no power is wasted and does so with 50 watts output and distortion of 0.03% https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/quad/306.shtml
  9. Yes, but you can build one for much less. Sharing output of your stated source, you are likely to be disappointed as the integrated circuit in the amplifier does not match to normal levels https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tpa3255.pdf? The result i am sorry to say, is likely to be insufficient audio level caused by insufficient sensitivity.
  10. No RCA carries only 0.316V RMS , 0.894 Peak to Peak, which is dictated by the media being played. What you reply to the OP with as 2V is reserved only for Test CD's where warning is given announcing that full scale level The level of SPDIF is lower at 0.5-0.6V peak to peak, but is unable to be valid compared, as it is digital vs analog for RCA audio. It's usually a matter of just enjoying each, or if needed make change to the operational amplifiers for analog replay to better specification device. Called op amp rolling, it requires a socket to be able to swap devices. In players from about 1998 onwards op amps are surface mount, making sockets harder to install.
  11. Yes FM is a excellent source of music, just listening brings you a wealth of knowledge about music. Becoming a supporter of your station is even better. Most community stations offer membership , and you can participate too, if you are so inclined Regular readers will know I pop up with history on topics, and FM is steeped in history. It struggled to the brink of extinction to exist. One of the most fascinating stories of one mans struggles to bring FM to existence is here: https://www.njarc.org/books/man-of-high-fidelity.pdf
  12. Then again, these surely are not fish in a kettle. They are in various guises at the foundation of measuring circuits, which includes those involved with audio equipment
  13. If you begin with a schematic, in your case doing so from the existing PCB , by tracing each part and its connection to the next part, you can then use a free program called Easy EDA to replicate that schematic. Once you have that you can populate a pcb with best layout, and generate a Gerber File. it looks like you have had success, but keep Easy EDA in mind if it might be useful in future. All of our pcb's other than one using Fritzing , were designed and made by ourselves using Easy EDA https://easyeda.com/ One really nice aspect of this is ability to have layers , so pcb size ( the costly part of board production ) can be heavily reduced. You also get expertise unexpected sometimes advising about layers. One of our boards as example was a challenge for the pcb manufacturer by having 5 layers , they took it all in stride , and were proud of what they achieved, as were we.
  14. Cathode Ray tubes, and later derivatives are at the foundation of most high quality audio equipment , Welcome @FiLThY_FreaK_
  15. Yes it looks like the 731A board is quite different , you could try contacting a few of the current distributors, some might have schematics for the changes made in the 731A board, or can advise you https://www.luxman.com/distributors/
  16. I would check the output relay is activating, you should nearly be able to hear it either click in or not click in.
  17. Many at SNA grew up in the era of LP's , where you might hear Beatles Abbey Road from a nearby house, and as you knew the album already , you could visualize the LP turning at their place. Album covers were a big part of the attraction I think, as nearly everyone had Dark Side of the Moon , which many had hanging on walls too, Yes the common joining thing was music. Move forward to the present day and all that was so enjoyable can still be done with even better audio reproduction. It's perhaps a matter of expressing in words what you hear, and the forum you have joined, is a great place for that, from there you might find others reacting also to music, like http://www.michiganaudioclub.com/
  18. If schematics for each are compared, you will find more closely why each sound, as they do. A lot is to do with two principle designs. One from the inventor of stereo Alan Blumein and his invention in 1936 of the long tailed pair - resulting in derivatives. https://www.alanturing.net/turing_archive/pages/blumlein/index.html The other the invention of the Cascode by Frederick Vinton Hunt and Roger Wayne Hickman in 1939 , which is somewhat similar or related by the use of two amplifying devices, also to Blumeins invention. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascode and used by Pass https://www.passlabs.com/technical_article/cascode-amp-design/
  19. With power off and the front panel internal parts accessible , use contact cleaner on the nine potentiometers and four - 3way switches below the meters, including further switches up the right hand side panel, and see if that improves audio playback.
  20. hi Jason a schematic is here : https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/jungson-audio/ja-88d.shtml which shows as a power amp. with power OFF ( cord disconnected ) undo the top cover and provide some images , once you are finished replace cover before re-powering Note images are in the article below as well so they will likely be sufficient to follow The schematic shows as a balanced drive amplifier inferring usually XLR connections, but possibly ability for RCA, although that is not shown on the schematic. Are you using balanced cabling and equipment before it ? There is a write up here about it : http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/JungSon.htm
  21. Hi Welcome to the forum. There is a manual for the Electrocompaniet here: https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/electrocompaniet/eci-5.shtml There is a review of your loudspeakers here: https://www.stereonet.com/reviews/elac-solano-bs283-bookshelf-speakers-review On paper each match fairly well, the speakers at 4 ohm nominal is easily catered for with the amp. Note there is both unbalanced and balanced inputs and outputs. Accordingly your source component can cater for either, the balanced output suits onward connection to a further power amp where this is needed. Electrocompaniet don't state how they arrive at sensitivity, which suggests as being using peak values, The design appears to offer good current ability.
  22. Sony have provided a what appears another annual update to software as Version 4.91, for 2024 , https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps3/system-software/ "This system software update improves system performance"
  23. This is good advice, and I would add, look at the resistance load the speakers present as nominal,as this gives you a good idea as to the amplifier that speaker will need. Also look at amplifier sensitivity. Here as example a amplifier / speaker manufacturer in business since 1936 , who makes effort to correctly match specifications so everything works: https://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/
