  1. Prices for LPs are over the top now. And digital music is getting really good. Maybe I love playing vinyl so much because I grew up with it. Also in my mind, music that was recorded in and for analogue can sound really great on LP. There is a lot of 50s to 70s stuff I love.
  2. I must admit Ive been more seriously thinking about Japan as an option. Eg. Im keen to buy some transformers for a valve power amp and Hashimoto are looking promising.
  3. Absolutely. I could never realistically afford 'premium and highend' cartridges- $21000 is 24 months rent for me. Even from my working class perspective, the burden of increasing costs has fast increased to levels not known for many decades. I weave in and out of participating in a love for vinyl, but over the last year or two it seems evermore difficult to find the funds. Best not to go into explanations for the worldwide tectonic shifts occuring economically and politically because I don't want to start arguments. But suffice it to say that Western economies are not immune from consequences of effective deindustrialisation in sectors other than the militiary industrial complex. Increasing costs aren't going anywhere. Add to this the current pitiful AUS$ exchange rate and no wonder we are fealing the pinch. But I still love playing vinyl, allbeit in concert with a new digital library I've started to offset ongoing costs from turntable spinning. Luckily there are still some wonderful less expensive cartridges available and there are also Australians in the hifi industry that help to make great analogue playback obtainable for those who want that.
  4. Funny you should ask such a question, Andy. You know I've got an old Denon PRA 1000 preamp. I believe the preamp part is almost good,, but the MC phono on it is really bloody nice to my old ears. I tried it with the Dynavector today and I actually enjoyed it more than with the AQVOX. I've always wished I know how to cut the preamp out of the path and just use it as an mm/ MC phono amp. Always wanted to try your Paris head amp, And Paris, Texas is one of my all time favorite albums, also.
  5. Ive got several. ATM just using a SS AQVOX Phono 2 CL. Just running it single ended and seems to have the voltage with everything turned up.
  6. When you get your phono amp back you could play a little Tom Petty - 'The Waiting is the Hardest Part'.
  7. It sounds good to me Steve, and I have never heard it.
  8. Dynavector DV-30C. I just threw it on my old PEAK/ CEC FR250idler drive. It's only 0.18 mv, but in many ways it sounds spectacular. Instruments of all kinds sound real. Dialling in vocals Im finding a bit challenging but worth it. If things are only 90% mechanically and electronically, I find that upper range vocals seem as though in the background. But once everything is balanced in correctly, they pop out nicely and the whole soundstage is awesome.
  9. Looks beautiful. I wish I had the spare cash. Hashimoto OPTs are bound to turn a good valve amp into a great one.
  10. Ive got a pair of these and love them. Just hooked them up last night for a listen with just an old Arcam FMJ A28, a turntable and Bob's your uncle, I was in heaven (the whiskey only contributed a little bit). Fantastic as oversized studio monitors and great to listen to in a stereo setup.
  11. That's a curly one. I just put together a little vibro-champ guitar amp head and found that the addition of a little curcuit with a 5751 made it suffer the very same consequence.
