  1. Thanks for checking. I actually did earth it as per the instructions on the Lenco Heaven site. The image is from an early stage of the rebuild, before I had it completed.
  2. If you choose to swap over the tonearm, and use the existing unmodified Lenco top plate, I believe the following second hand tonearms have dimensions that are close enough to the required 240mm effective length, and 225mm pivot to spindle distance. I think they will all fit in the existing Lenco top plate hole, but it would pay to double check. Audio Technica AT1005, AT1007, AT1009. Acos Lustre GST801 Fidelity Research FR54 Denon DA305, DA307, DA309, DA401.
  3. Years ago I bought a badly treated Lenco L70, with a corroded tonearm and missing headshell. Even in its poor state of repair it didn’t feel right to break it up for a PTP project, as I know they are much rarer than the GL75, and ultimately it could have been restored by someone suitably skilled. But I did want to tinker, so I chose to just re-plinth it, and swap the tonearm over. I had to remove the associated tonearm linkages for the off/on/play controls, but I didn’t have to do anything that was not reversible. I serviced everything myself, except the tonearm of course, using the Lenco Heaven guides, and found it to be pretty simple. If you want to play a little, without going too far, this could be an option for you.

  10. Scandinavian Research Loudspeakers. Front ported. Made in Australia (despite the name). I’ve been advised that this was the “house brand” of Miranda Hi Fi many years ago. Minimum Power: 50W RMS. Maximum Power: 150W RMS. Weight: 14.5kg each. 700 high x 315 wide x 290 deep. 10” Polypropylene Woofers. 4” Tweeters. They both work perfectly but the veneers are peeling on both (one side each only) and the dust covers are a bit grotty.
  11. Yes, it is the lowest frequency (and only) woofer in the system. Your advice to leave it vented is duly noted. Thanks for your advice.
  12. Thanks for that. If I want to reuse the existing crossovers what minimum volume of sealed enclosure would you hazard a guess at (your guess will be better than mine I'm sure)? I'm expecting suitable performance only, as I know optimal performance would require accurate specifications of the driver, or a bit of testing of the driver in different volume sealed enclosures.
  13. Hi there. I have some old speakers I'm thinking of pulling the components out of and rehousing in new enclosures. The 10" Polypropylene Woofers currently inhabit a ported enclosure of around 38 litres. They are unbranded, but I suspect that they may be be these: https://www.wagneronline.com.au/daichi-10-polypropylene-woofer-120w/speaker-drivers/audio-speakers-pa/3106/fl/ Fo: 45 Hz Fs: 45 Hz Qes: 0.57 Qts: 0.52 Qms: 6.65 VAS: 73 litres Would these specifications suit the 38 litre ported enclosure that they're in? If not then I'll have to keep searching to try and find out what they are. Also, is it possible to make a rule of thumb guess at a suitable sealed enclosure volume for these drivers (25 litres?) given that they already live in a 38 litre ported enclosure? Many thanks in advance for any, and all, advice.
  14. Wow, thanks mbz. I wasn’t expecting an answer with such technical detail. Many thanks.
  15. I have a lovely vintage Yamaha CR-800 Receiver, which is currently serving as a phono preamplifier for two turntables, as it has two phono inputs. Its separate pre and power sections, excellent tuner and headphone amplifier make it particularly useful and versatile for other duties as well. I have a few questions I’m looking to get some advice on. Although it currently has no issues, if I were to press it into use purely as an integrated amplifier, would there be great gains, sound-wise, to be made in getting it recapped? If yes, what sort of cost would I be looking at, and who/where in Melbourne would be a good person/place to contact? Also, if I were to replace it at some time in the future, how much would I need to spend on something new, just in order to equal its performance as an integrated amplifier? Many thanks for any and all advice offered.
  16. Hence the price - and I’ll take less. They actually sound pretty decent. I’m hoping someone might at least have use for the drivers and crossovers rather than the whole lot going to landfill.

  19. Many, many thanks for everyone’s interest. It’s now sold to first responder Tim. If anything changes I’ll move to the second responder, and so on. Cheers. Rohan
  20. Yamaha CA-510 Natural Sound Stereo Amplifier Yamaha CT-800 Natural Sound AM/FM Tuner Yamaha YP-B2 Belt Drive Turntable Yamaha HP-3 Orthodynamic Headphones Yamaha NS-340 Loudspeakers All in pretty much perfect condition and perfect working order. Original manuals for the Amplifier and Turntable. All lights and meters are functioning and the Amplifier and Turntable were both serviced a couple of years ago and have not been used since. Headphones have non-original wiring. Sorry, but I will not split.
  21. By all accounts I believe you have in your very lucky hands one of the finest turntables ever made. I have no personal experience with them, but I’m sure that those who do will probably chime in to sing its praises. If you do a search for sold listings on the well known online auction site you will find that they are pretty highly valued.
  22. You can also use a small trim router attached to a radius arm to do the same thing. I have a number of home made turntable mats made this way from various "found" materials, which I've posted on another thread, but I'll show them here as well. Left to right and top to bottom they were: IKEA place mat & cork combination, and leather & cork combination. Bamboo ply, and LP & self adhesive skid protectors Leather & bamboo ply combination, and lead cloth & cork combination. After extensive testing my slight preference was for the leather & bamboo ply, or the LP & self adhesive skid protector combinations. The differences for me were very subtle, and did vary depending on the music being played. None of them seemed to stand consistently head and shoulders above the rest.

  24. I finally gave up on looking for a decent Phono Preamp with two MM inputs (why are these so few and far between?), or adding a suitable switch box to the lowly Cambridge Audio 540P I already had. My previously unused Yamaha CR800 does the trick now. Tape out line goes straight to a line input on my amplifier. It has a quality MM Phono Preamp and two MM inputs so I can easily flick between either turntable. I also get a decent headphone amplifier and fantastic tuner thrown into the bargain.
