Further information: This unit was a key part of my office setup however I'm unlikely to return. This has been sitting here for almost a year now so it's time to go to a new home. The valves are new set from Schiit installed no long before vacating the office. These units sound great, and there are a couple of reviews tagged below. In original packaging for safe shipping. Happy to answer any questions. SNA donation on completion of the sale. https://www.mmorpg.com/hardware-reviews/schiit-audio-valhalla-2-tube-amplifier-review-2000108934 https://www.cnet

Hunting for a QUALITY power board - no filtration, etc
lumholtzii replied to Winno's topic in Power, Cables & Electronics
Well, I'm going to retract that statement and suggestion .... I finally decided to try a Consonance PW-3 and it arrived the other day. It's twice the price of the rack pdu but easily more than x2 the impact on SQ in my system. Very impressed for the modest investment & I've ordered another. Of course, YMMV https://www.osbornloudspeakers.com.au/product-page/consonance-pw-3-6-plug-shielded-power-board -
Further information: I purchased this a couple of years ago as I stepped into the MC cartridges and it was a great bit of kit. Over time I simplified things and moved to a dedicated MC phono stage to reduce the complexity. This has been sitting around way too long gathering dust in anticipation of a 2nd setup but that's not going to happen and it needs a new home. Very clean front and sides, but some small scratches on the rear from fitting tight cables. Original box for PSU but I'm struggling to find the original for the EXP - I'll keep looking! Will be well packed for transport.

Further information: I purchased this centre speaker from this forum about a year ago for a simple AV set up and it was a nice improvement - it has that classic SF sound. However upgradeitis kicked in a month or so ago and this now sitting around needing a new home. I don't have the original packaging and hence for pickup only. Further information: I purchased this some years ago from SNA and it never really suited my system, so it has sat in the cupboard unloved. Time to go to new home. I'm not too sure how I'd describe the sound, perhaps very full with a strong bottom end. It also has a decent length at 1.5m and locking connectors. SNA donation included in price if sold for the asking price Photos: PLEASE READ If you include any reference to pricing whatsoever in this section (excluding RRP), your ad will not be approved If you are advertising mul

I'm seriously considering either one of these as my next dac. I've been able to audition a Holo at home and I love it ... it's going to be hard to give it back to it's rightful owner (thanks @RussB). I'll be going back to Ares II, so it won't be all bad. I haven't been able to hear the Venus so far. My question is whether anyone has heard both the Holo and the Venus ? They are both R2R and about at the same point. Any thoughts on the similarities / difference between them may be helpful in making a decision.

NIce .. take it a win

Totally agree. As the music becomes more refined it becomes less jarring / more acceptable to those around who might not be as engaged as we are. Actually I think it engages them more, and I suspect even when they don't want to be engaged ! It can be a real distraction, even at low volumes. A good setup creates that conveys the emotional content of music, even at low volumes, and can create 'earworms' that can be very hard to ignore

My partner has synaesthesia and is more of a literary type, and so music even at a modest volume can be sensory overload, especially lyrics. The interesting observation is that as the SQ has improved over time the acceptable volume has also increased. I'm taking that as win .... I'm a bit reluctant to tell her about these observations and just see how far I can get 😉

Hunting for a QUALITY power board - no filtration, etc
lumholtzii replied to Winno's topic in Power, Cables & Electronics
After a bit of hunting I discovered these & I've been using them for the last 6 months. Reasonable cost and you can use a high quality power cord to improve things quite a bit. Aluminium chassis, good internal structure (I've looked !) and Au sockets rather than the universal ones that I'm not a fan of https://www.4cabling.com.au/1ru-6-way-gpo-rack-mount-pdu-power-rail.html -
FS: Elektra Reference power amp
lumholtzii replied to buddyev's topic in Classifieds - Stereo, Home Cinema & Headphones
a seriously good power amp for the $$. Arthur Rappos is a great local (Melbs) audio engineer designing & building top quality stuff. I don't need another power amp, but if it did !! ... GLWTS @@buddyev -
I'd look out for a Cawsey Powerboard. They come up here SH occasionally for $200 to $250; they are about $500 new from Garry in Brunswick who custom builds them to his design. These are the base units with essentially a Kambrook outlet strip, and these spurred me on to check out even better ones that he can build to order (shielded case, shielded leads, etc.) Impressive increase in SQ ... IMO they are worth the $$
