  1. agree and that's my excuse ... it's a great intro into a NOS R2R sound for the money but upgradeitis is something that many of us unfortunately suffer from
  2. Further information: I purchased this a couple of years ago as I stepped into the MC cartridges and it was a great bit of kit. Over time I simplified things and moved to a dedicated MC phono stage to reduce the complexity. This has been sitting around way too long gathering dust in anticipation of a 2nd setup but that's not going to happen and it needs a new home. Very clean front and sides, but some small scratches on the rear from fitting tight cables. Original box for PSU but I'm struggling to find the original for the EXP - I'll keep looking! Will be well packed for transport.
  3. Further information: Price reduced further to offset recent purchase. This is a very high quality and versatile dac / headphone amp from Canada that does not come up for sale 2nd hand very frequently. This is the Mark I model. I am the second owner and purchased from SNA a couple of years ago and it is still in the same excellent condition. It has served me very well and it has seen off several other very good dacs, but now it is time to try something else .... and exactly what I’m still unsure ! While is this is a based on a ESS 9028PRO ch
  4. not so far as I haven't had the gear. I've no doubt that I2S is is good as I've heard in other people's rigs, but in that instance in mine it wasn't night & day. Upon reflection it may have been the very nice coax cable that I use versus the crappy hdmi that I had available at the time, but really who knows !
  5. in that trial the input was SOtM SMS200 Neo Ultra > Matrix X Spidif >. Coax. But also tried I2S since the Matrix outputs that but surprisingly didn't get a huge lift As an update, I still committed to the R2R dac but have seriously been considering the Sonnet Morpheus. I've heard it once but need a 2nd listen to be sure.
  6. Further information: I purchased this centre speaker from this forum about a year ago for a simple AV set up and it was a nice improvement - it has that classic SF sound. However upgradeitis kicked in a month or so ago and this now sitting around needing a new home. I don't have the original packaging and hence for pickup only. 12. I'm with you @Artnet - in a perfect world I'd have multiple setups that I'd could flick over but it's all a compromise, room included. My room for what it is worth my main room is very 'live' so on some recordings on the acoustic / spare but dynamic side of things the room totally works and you can crank it up & it holds together,. However on other recordings that are more complex or using the maximum available sonic headroom on every part of the spectrum the room resonances turns things to absolute mush even at low volumes ..... And would I want to go down the room treatment rabbit bu
  13. I take your point @Mrpseudonym. And to some degree I've noticed that, even using the Denafrips Ares II as my current dac, although I suspect that it may also have more to do with recent improvements in power and interconnects, hence why the convolution was out of whack. But yes, when you no longer need to compensate for the deficiencies of your system because you've balanced it very finely, then a 'cure' may be worse than the 'disease'. Of course, there's always the peaks and troughs of the room, but hey, who want's to life in a very neutral sounding mastering suite .... umm I should shu
  14. Well, problem identified ! Damn Roon convolution, which is also really out of date following a number of minor and some major tweaks. That is not the first time that function has 'got' me, and it's shame it's embedded in the Roon interface, and I easily forget about ? .... OK, back to thinking / reading opinions on dacs !
  15. Sorry @Artnet - I forgot to reply to your question. My preference for listening is 2.1 channel in a room 4 x 3 m, and given a choice I'll listen to vinyl any day but I still also need the convenience of digital .... I'm not much of a headphone fan, unless that's the only option available . The decision on the next dac has been a little paralysed by lack of funds (still trying to sell bits gear to get $$ for the next move), and the lack of ability to hear / or try all the options before I buy. I've been caught before and it can be a costly gamble. Anyway, as an aside to my frus

  21. Further information: This unit has variously been used as my main home computer and / or as a Roon core for a couple years. It's the highly specced variant with quad-core 17 running at 2.7gHz, so it still has very reasonable grunt for it's age. It hardly breaks a sweat when running Roon with Convolution / DSP / upsampling etc. The RAM was upgraded to 16GB, a 1TB SSD installed for the OS and primary storage, and a second 2TB SATA HDD to store music or other media (music has since been removed). The only thing I didn't do was fit a 12v psu. I moved Roon to a new
  22. Thanks @MattyW ... shame you’re in Brissy. I’d love to hear one
  23. Further information: This unit was a key part of my office setup however I'm unlikely to return. This has been sitting here for almost a year now so it's time to go to a new home. The valves are new set from Schiit installed no long before vacating the office. These units sound great, and there are a couple of reviews tagged below. In original packaging for safe shipping. Happy to answer any questions. SNA donation on completion of the sale. https://www.mmorpg.com/hardware-reviews/schiit-audio-valhalla-2-tube-amplifier-review-2000108934 https://www.cnet
