  3. Too cheap! These are great little speakers. I have a pair in my bedroom, powered by a Bluesound Powernode. Great combination for light listening. GLWS.
  4. I gave Roon a go last week for 3 days and found that it didn't really suit the way I have oganized and tagged my music. I knew that I wouldn't be able to view my music collection like windows explorer (folder/tree view) but decided to at least give it a go after a friend suggested I do so. I cancelled my free trial and shortly after received an email from Eric @ Roon. I explained why I thought it wouldn't work for me and he was good enough to email me back with a descriptive 4-5 step recommendation along with screenshots on how to use Roon's tagging and focus features to achieve what I wanted to do. He also re-enabled my trial for another 30 days instead of the standard 14. Absolute champion. I'll be giving his suggestion a go tonight and giving Roon a bit more of a thorough workout in the coming week or so.
  5. There's a few things at play in regards to a pre-amp... it must have HT bypass as well as a coaxial input (to connect to my computer for digital files) which narrows the choices down a fair bit. Another pre I'm looking at is the PS Audio Stellar Gain unit which is around the 2.5k price point. I won't be going beyond that at this point in time.
  6. Yeh your words in a few places swayed me with these amps. I'll be adding a proper pre-amp to the chain after testing one out last night... if the monoblocks were a step up, the pre-amp I tried last night (Parasound Pre 200) gave me another two steps up. Unfortunately my "theatre" is only small at 3.5m wide so I'm hesitant to put them closer to the side walls (where they were previously). I listen to predominantly bass-orientated music (electronica) so distance from the wall behind directly relates to how much bass presence I want. I'll definitely be experimenting more with speaker placement in a couple of weeks when I'm on holidays however!
  7. I did! Happy with the purchase. The sound is a lot more stout, bass is better controlled and they look the part too. The only problem with going this route is that I have to find a new home for my subwoofer which used to sit in the right corner... not that I need it now for music! (will do for movies however).
  8. Item: Vincent SP-331 Hybrid Power Amplifier Location: WA Price: $700 Item Condition: Perfect Reason for selling: Upgraded to monoblocks Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I'll likely trade this in on Tuesday but thought I'd throw it up on here in case it interests someone. I found it a really good upgrade from using my Yamaha AVR (RX-A3070) to power the speakers (Q Acoustics Concept 500) so would suit someone in a similar position. I'm only selling as I've just upgraded my amplification to a pair of monobocks. Please note - WA sale only as I no longer have the box and foam for packing. Input signal incorporates two 6N16 valves each. There are 12 TOSHIBA transistors provided for the power in each case. The SP-331 can also be operated at 2 Ohm without difficulties. This is a hybrid tube and solid state power amplifier (you will require a pre-amplifier of some description to use with it). Nominal Output Power RMS/8 Ohm: 2 x 150 Watt Nominal Output Power RMS/4 Ohm: 2 x 300 Watt T.H.D.: < 0.1 % (1 kHz, 1 Watt) Input Sensitivity: 1,2 V Signal-Noise Ratio: > 90 dB Input Impedance: 47 kOhm Inputs: 1 x Stereo RCA Outputs: 4 x 2 Speaker Terminal Tubes: 2 x 6N16B Colour: Silver Weight: 19 kg Dimensions ( W x H x D): 430 x 160 x 450 mm Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  9. The pre-amp section will definitely change at some point. As a stop-gap, I will be chucking a Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 in the music chain.
  10. Cheers! Just phoned a local store and they have two store demo units that have seen little use and are willing to price match.
  11. Hi all, currently in the market for a new power amplifier with a maximum budget of around $4,000. I currently have a Vincent SP-331 hybrid power amplifier which I absolutely love the sound of, but a year ago I purchased a pair of Q Acoustics Concept 500 so looking to upgrade the amp to something a bit more high end (or mid-fi if you will). I use my Yamaha RX-A3070 as a pre-amp and to control the other speakers in my home theatre. For music, I cast FLAC files wirelessly to the Yamaha, pre-out to the Vincent. So far on the short list I have: Rotel RB-1590 Vincent SP-994 Vincent SP-998 Monoblocks I know there are Parasound A21/A23 available but I've read mixed opinions about them. From all reports the two Vincent amplifiers punch well above their price point (just like the Q Acoustics) and I'm probably leaning towards the SP-998 monoblocks. I listen to predominantly bass orientated music, so I would like to stick with solid state for now. Got my first child coming in November so I don't want to get addicted to the expensive game of tube rolling either, haha (would love a Primaluma or similar). I'm in WA, so local stocks and trials are a bit thin on the ground. Nearly all of my audio purchases have been done without auditions (risky, I know) but have been exceptionally happy with my choices thus far. Happy to hear some suggestions or votes of confidence for any of the above models, etc. Cheers!
  12. I'm 3 months late but stumbled across this thread looking for info on the Vincent SP-994 and 998 amplifiers. Had a giggle at "Sound was mostly confined to the speakers with not much of a soundstage between them" ... that sounds more like a speaker problem than amplifier problem to me (whether that be poor choice of speaker, poor speaker design or just not physically placed well).
