What do people think of Niles in ceiling speakers , I have a pair of their outdoor speakers and I'm pretty happy with the sound. I'm building a new house and have managed to squeeze in my " dungeon" as the wife calls it. I'm looking at in ceiling speakers for the surrounds , any other brands to consider?? Thanks in advance

Jm Lab Electra 927Be Thoughts
jelliemillie replied to jelliemillie's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
I took your advice and suggested an audition with my own equipment since the owner claimed that he sold his hifi equipment. The response was if I was hesitant not to buy them. Good advice I think, they could have been grand Utopias but buying a set without auditioning them is like buying a Merc without driving it , I wasn't going to risk it on reputation a alone. Oh well back to the drawing board. -

Jm Lab Electra 927Be Thoughts
jelliemillie replied to jelliemillie's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
Thanks for your feedback, would a Marantz 8002 suffice? Or an old faithful Onkyo Integra circa 1990's 2 Chanel be a better option? Spoke to distributor , he said to check berrylium tweeters if broken , may cost a packet, also the bass he agreed may be a little light on. He suggested the Auria may be a good buy, but the tweeter is not in the Berrylium class. I do have the Electra SUbwoofer also. Mmmmm decisions decisions -
Hi Guys I have the opportunity to purchase a second hand pair of JM lab Electra 927 be's. I have been reading some of the comments on the forums and on google about these speakers and the main consensus is that the are very bright due to the Beryllium tweeter, and that the base is not quite " strong" enough. The other noticeable thing is that many have sold their sets and have upgraded to the newer Electra 1007 be models. My question is are they still a decent speaker? Or will the lack of base eventually force me to sell. I am not able to audition them so if there is anyone out there that owns these speaker are you happy with their performance? Thanks in advance

Hi Guys I have just re-connected the Pioneer C509 to the Marantz via HDMi after the Oppo BDP 83 arrived. All I am looking to do is have the sound from the FTA shows go thru the Marantz and hence suround sound. I must be missing something simple on the set up menus. Any advice is welcome. Cheers Jelliemillie

Pioneer Pdpc509a Or Samsung Ps50b850
jelliemillie replied to Steveonkyo's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Pioneer +1 I have the C509 and I am absolutely impressed. When all the dust settles , this is what every other TV aspires to be. In my opinion the simple sleek lines make it an elegant piece of equipment also. However , at the end of the day it goes back to what you like and your eyes prefer. Forget about all the hype and the sales pitch ( lets face it , who gives a rats how "slim it is" , is anyone going to turn their TV on it's side and look at it and admire it from time to time? ).When you bring it home and start to enjoy it, all the agonising and pondering will be a thing of the past , so go with your eyes and enjoy the purchse. By all means listen to the advice but it's still an opinion and other peoples preference. Don't forget to get extended warranty Cheers Jelliemillie -

Oppo Purchasing Options
jelliemillie replied to davidren's topic in Movies - Box Office, Blu-ray Releases etc.
Hey Guys Try this one. Buy from Amazon.com, they have free shipping inside the US.Get it shipped to a lady called Carrie, she operates a fright forwarding business from home called Carriemy shopping .I have used in the past for some speakers and was all legit. You can even use paypal etc, She will then ship it via US priority mail.that costs $78.00 US. I have checked it all out and confirmed prices. $499 plus $78 plus $12.00 Carries fee= $589 US @ 87 = AUD$ 677. (only extra charge is the paypal fee.) Then add the Mod kit @$91 = 768 in total. Fs: Pioneer Bdp-lx71 Blu-ray In Perth
jelliemillie replied to dantan's topic in Movies - Box Office, Blu-ray Releases etc.
Hi Chill Thanks for clarifying that , it's just when you wrote BD83 I thought you had already received your Oppo 83 from the group buy.Your thoughts and impressions are certainly valuable.I was very interested in your reveiw of the DVD upscaling since I have just become a proud owner of a Pioneer c509 and I am looking at matching a blu-ray palyer that plays and upscales DVD's also. Hence my interest in the Oppo and more so on your comments comparing it to the Pioneer. Thanks Jelliemillie -
Fs: Pioneer Bdp-lx71 Blu-ray In Perth
jelliemillie replied to dantan's topic in Movies - Box Office, Blu-ray Releases etc.
Hi Chill Can you clarify, are you saying that the Pioneer 51 (or 71) has better dvd upscaling thus better picture than the new Oppo BD83? Have you compared both ? Is there a difference in picture quality in DVD? Cheers Jelliemillie -

Thanks to one and all for your replies. It looks like the Pio 51 is the way to go , however I have been keeping an eye on the Pana 60 on ebay and they are fetching from $380 to $420 , so they would be very tempting at $350. On a side issue , I did call Pioneer today and they did confirm the release of the New generation Blu-ray palyers in a month or 2. So perhaps there may be a few good opportunities in the coming months. Thanks again Jelliemillie

Hi guys Can you help me decide on a Blu-ray Player.I will be receiving a Pioneer C509 panel soon, and was wondering if it was best to stick with a Pioneer player such as the BD-51 and the the Kuro link connectivity .The panasonic BD 60 has received some great reviews and seems to do all I need but I am not sure of it's 2-channel capabilities. I will be connecting via HDMI to a Marantz SR8002 amp.I am confused re all the different connections however.Should I be connecting via the amp or directly to the panel? All I want to do is watch region 4 DVD's , start a Blu -ray collection and also listen to 2 -channel music via the Blu-ray and of course watch FTA TV. Which is the best allround player ie Blu-ray, Upscaling DVD's and playing 2 channel between(Pio 51 or Pana60). I am asking too much? Are there other models to consider.I did opt out of the Oppo group buy , mainly due to it being region locked and cost. Your considered opinions would be appreciated. Thanks Laurie I will make the call to Aaron. By the way I was at Melb City Myer. They had an LX509 , that a customer had not picked up. The salesman offered it to me for $5xxx, he said it is in the system under a customer , so you have to go in and ask. Cheers Mannie -

Pioneer Pdp-lx509a Best Price
jelliemillie replied to PLANT's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Hi gavin As I said earlier, if you really want this TV badly enough then you will have to Harass and haggle really hard and be prepared to do alot of leg work.I did quite a bit but soon realised I could not justify even $4800 as some of the guys were getting earlier this year so I went for the C Panel. The salesmen know they have the upper hand .......let the games begin. So it's up to you to work out what you are prepared to spend and go for it. Best of luck. Cheers Jelliemillie -

Rain we love rain, we need rain , especially in Vic. Yes you are quite correct and my apologies for neglecting to mention as an added sweetner they are throwing in a $150 Dj's gift card so long as you make a purchase within the first 7 days outside of Dj's. So in fact the added cost is the fee of $35 plus the $2.95 per month (x18) plus the $150.00 for the second year.(if you don't pay it off by then of course). Cheers Jelliemillie
