  1. It is official! http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/enews/nine/NI...-HD-101108.html
  2. To be fair, they didn't even remark to me about this stuff, they just opened up the box and texted the tv. I hadn't ripped the box apart and eaten the styrofoam packaging, but I think that they are in their rights to refuse a change of mind return when you buy the tv from them in a nice sealed box and return it in a garbage bag. Some onus has to be on the returner to reciprocate good nature of the policy. I asked them what they would do with the TV (i.e. how they would sell it). They said they would sell it for a reduced ex-demo price given the condition (i.e ticketed at the price they sold to me $600 below current advertised price). I asked them if they needed to do this and they said that given the fact that the tv had been bought and returned, that the box had been opened - that they are obliged by law to notify the buyer.
  3. Yeah - although I spent the best part of a week fiddling before arriving at my choice which was promptly the wrong one for me. DSE are not the cheapest but matched whatever price I got around the traps - however they would not match online retailers and prompted to upsell me on everything (warranty, cables, powerboard, screencleaner) - I politeley declined all upsells but congratualted him on the effort... I think kudos to DSE on this matter - where most places are looking for some sort of foothold in the market (interest free, bonus deals) something valuable like a change of mind policy is something that I think helps. I am usually a indecisive buyer but when I knew I could take it back no questions asked if I didn't like it - the sale was made.
  4. Yeah I had them and wrote about it in more detail: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...t&p=1103675
  5. I bought the LA46A650 on Thursday - played with it over the weekend and took it back on Monday and bought a Panasonic Th46PZ800A. After all of the testing and playing - when I got it home I realised that regardless of the advances made to LCD technology over the past 5 years, I just don't like the way a LCD resolves its picture. Don't get me wrong - the Sammy is a beautiful unit - and displays HD content immacuately - and as an LCD panel was near faultless (i will get to that) but personal taste is that I prefer the picture of a plasma. Both my father and my mate have plasma (50" PZ750) and I have gotten used to how good these sets are for the way I use them (watching movies and sport). But I conceed that this is personal choice - some prefer LCD and that is cool. Two things - one is that I found that when callibrated properly (or to my liking) I found that Sammy to have quite noticable clouding/ purple backlighting issues. We watched a few movies where in dark scences I could make out the lighter fields. Second is that i purchased my TV from Dick Smith Powerhouse who had the best service of anywhere around - and they have a 14 day change of mind policy (which I used). If you don't like your TV (as I did) you can return it no questions asked - as long as it isnt damaged and the box is still in good condition. Other stores might have this too - but DSE were the only ones who actually advertised it.
  6. I bought 46PZ800A from DSE Penrith - won the lumix still camera.
  7. Just bought LA46A650A1F for $2850 on finance from Dick Smith Powerhouse. I didn't end up going on my trek (ate my lunch at home) - but went down to the local store and got the best setup with the best service of anywhere I had been (and I had been to a lot) across the Sydney basin. The Sammy looked gorgeous properly setup - generally the screen drew audible gasps from people walking by as I was buying the TV (awesome!). Its sitting in the living room ready for an unboxing on giant proportions...thanks for the help from those on these forums.
  8. No - from what I have read - no HDMI cable with the PD1500 and yes, a HDMI cable will look better than junk Samsung bundle. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/05/29/the-s...-p1500-unboxed/
  9. I did - but the guy at Harvey Norman got all protective over the remote... Thanks HiDef Jules, Wags and Frozenblade for your input. I will still make used of my packed lunch and see what I can see around the traps in Sydney: I am calling it sixfiddy Thursday, but pretty cert on getting the TV based on the awesome reviews I have read not just from here but from across the net about this set (oo a rhyme!).
  10. I was there on Tuesday - but now am second guessing my selection...Today I went into Harney Norman ready to part with my hard earned to buy the 46A650 and got stage fright. I almost blew my stack because they didn't have one setup properly (i.e. all running coax crappy SDTV channel 9) - but they had a wall of LCD's all running BlueRay through HDMI (1080imind you)... Now Tuesday in my travels, I saw the Sammy and thought it was beating the Sony's on points - but today in this demo the Sony looked much better. My big thing is sharpness and punch - and the Sony's (X 46" 40", W 46" 40") looked sharper - the Sammy's (46 and 40") had comparable tone and colour but looked soft in sharpness next to the Sony - and I mean every Sony 1080P set they had. They had a Samsung 40A650 and Samsung LA40M5 next to each other and the M series looked sharper. I am not sure if this is just a HN thing - where the Sony has been sitting there for a year and has been tweaked next the Sammy which only came in recently and hasn't - or whether the Sammy's are just softer. I then went to the Good Guys and had a look @ a 50". It looked good but still looked a little soft when I glanced over to the 50" X Sony. (not sure what the standard of BD was running through it). I had my mind just about made up - has anyone seen a s 6 series setup and looked awesome at any store in the Sydney basin (anywhere from the west to the east - north to the south)? I have my lunched packed for tommorrow and am prepared to go on a bit of a trek.
  11. None. But you could talk to your retailer - maybe arrange a 'return' and repurchase this week?
  12. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/07/samsungs...n_official.html Samsung boosts its iQ with landmark FOXTEL HD+ Promo Deluxe promotion brings HD experience to more Australians SYDNEY, JULY 1, 2008 - Get ready to experience the true power of High Definition (HD) with the launch of a new promotional partnership by Samsung and FOXTEL. 14. I went on a scounting mission today at the various electrical retailers across Sydney looking at the 40" and 46" 6 Series Samsungs. Here are my observations/ questions: - Why do many of the stores insist on pumping through relayed sdtv through these lovely 1080p sets. It does them no justice... - At two of the 20 stores i visited today (from Castle Hill to Auburn to Prospect), sales assistants would not hook up a blueray player for me to see the performance of said tv, insisting that i was "time consuming " and that "customers will play with the players if we have them out" - None of the retailers have any info regarding the FoxtelHD/BlueRay deal - The black levels on the 6 Series Samsung are on par if not better than the Kuro - they are outstanding - The only small inkling stopping me from buying the set (apart from said announcement) relative sharpness of a 1080p signal. Unlike most I like noisy/grainy images because they appear more sharper. I saw an F series Samsung playing Spiderman 3 (crap movie, great transfer) - it was experienceing some major issues with processing the signal (every 4-5 seconds it sort of slow-mo for a quarter of a second), but it was super sharp. In my limited play with the 6 Series I couldn't get it looking as sharp - but I was just playing with turning the 100hz signal on/off and the 24p on and off. -The best price I got was from Harvey Norman in Prospect/Seven Hills was for the 6 Series 46" $2750 Thats is a great price considering the warranty RAGGS. I would appreciate a receipt too if not too much trouble (weatherhead at gmail dot com)
  15. Thanks for the good discussion that has been posted on this forum. I am in that position where I am wanting to lay my hard earned on the line for that ripper set... I have been eyeing the Sony's for awhile, but have been questioning that thought upon seeing my Dad's 50" 1080P Viera plasma. Its a natural looking set and does an awesome job and pretty much anything that he throws at it. However I have hearing and reading good things about the latest Sammy's. Can someone who has one please comment on the glossy screen? I have a semi bright room, but on seeing the glossy screens in the from the previous model sets @ JbHifi, it seemed very reflective. However I have temper that thought with the reminder that I have been watching a 68cm CRT for the last 10 years and haven't really had a problem.
  16. Any info as to what 'type' of HD they will be broadcasting in.... Considering by 'straylian government standards the 'HD' could be 576p.... dann
  17. I think it does (from Samsung specs) TV Tuner Multi-channel Preview Split screen, picture-in-picture (PIP) Analogue Channel Presets 100 channel(s) Digital TV Tuner DVB-T dann
  18. Hey all, This is one of the best threads on this forum and has given me some great answers to my little setup hassle/issue. I will divulge said issue and then outlay my proposed solutions - however I am sure that collective wisdom might point be in more intelligent directions. Here is diagram to explain my setup. http://picasaweb.google.com/weatherhead/Mi...886337377011890 We have our main TV/home theatre in one room (where all of the inputs of FTA/Foxtel come to) and kitchen in a neighboring room. We always planned for a TV in our kitchen but when we did our renovation - we were thinking small 19" samsung with a small dodgy SD STB. So in our kitchen our antenna/networking guy installed a FTA outlet and hooked up a direct coax link to the main room where the incoming foxtel connection was. The thinking was this: in kitchen the FTA rf would go into STB which would output to tv as composite (video/audio) and then in the main room we would plug the foxtel RF out into the direct coax link and then in kitchen connect direct coax link (carring foxtel signal) into RF (aerial input) on LCD and tune in TV. Simple.... But before all this work could be put into place we bought a better LCD tv with an inbuilt HDTV tuner (silly..).However using this setup I now have direct a FTA (coax RF) which would be plugged into RF socket on the LCD tv and then tuned in via built-in HDTV tuner. I also have foxtel being linked via coax direct link through RF as well and no additional input to plug it in to... (only one rf input on the LCD tv) I did some reading and found there was no real way to turn an RF signal into a composite without some massive ugly box.... So my intention now was..... Main room -FTA into Foxtel STU RF in >>RF out from Foxtel STU (carrying both Foxtel & FTA) into Coax Direct RF link>> then in kitchen plug Coax Direct RF link into LCD RF (aerial). Now my quandary is - will the LCD HDTV tuner recognise the foxtel RF channel? My guess is no....but again I am not the world's authority on this.... Any tips/pointers/arrows of abuse greatly appreciated as always. Maybe a better solution? Cheers Dann
