  1. The PANA 32" was listed at $899 clearance...they had moved them all and were now on order. I suspect their popularity for buyers may reduce the haggle margin for those same buyers.
  2. 32av500a. 32". I think a 2 week wait would've been more astute if really wanting to haggle...but I was there to buy then. $1099 sticker price, reduced as clearance to $899, average haggling to $849. I offered $800...he saw the manager and offered the 849. I immediately thought I should've offered $700! I wanted a Pana of same size but at least a 4 week wait. The shopping crowd was constant and busy, and the salesmen looked like tuna fisherman reeling them in one after another. 2 year warranty, and I believe there was a 5 year warranty offer a few months back. Does that equate to confidence in the product from the manufacturer? I have to say, the picture is excellent. Works well with the PS and I watched a footy dvd which was very good also. The scrolling between stations is quite slow, and the on screen info seems cluttered. I'll get used to the info display, but the scroll time is a little annoying.
  3. I've just bought one today. $849 from CP Ringwood. Nice picture. So far happy, but the kids will be the real reviewers once they've had a go at the play station on it. I'll get back with info later. I'll compare picture quality against a Pana Viera th42, 2 years old. It doesn't have a PC connection capability by the look of it. An oversight on my behalf but one I'll live with.
  4. Here are the advertised specs. $1299, with 2 year in home warranty. I'm interested in any info. or a better alternative. * 42" (106cm) Full HD LCD panel * Integrated High Definition tuner * Full HD resolution 1920x1080 * Signal compatibility 1080p/1080i/720p/576p/480p/480i * Contrast ratio 2000:1 * Brightness 400 cd/m2 * Response time 6.5ms * Viewing angle 176°/176° * Window size options: 4:3, 16:9, Zoom 1, Zoom 2 * Picture modes: standard/user/dynamic/mild * Sound modes: standard/music/sports/user * Easy to use menu system * Wall mountable * 200 channel memory * 2 x 10W speakers * Teletext * Connections: AV input x 2, AV output x 1, S-video x 1, YPbPr/YCbCr component input x 2, VGA input x 1, HDMI input x 3, USB x 1, Coaxial x 1
  5. As the title suggests, I'm after a 68-82 cm lcd integrated hdtv for my workplace. It'll probably be used for as much as 20 hours a day or thereabouts. The money is limited as it comes from a donation. It's to go into the staff room. I've costed wall mounts as anything from b/w $100-600. The mount will need to be able to swivel out from the wall. I've looked at the 68cm panasonic viera and a samsung. I can't chase bargains, but I am after suggestions for solid reliable machinery. Does anyone have anything in mind that may suit my purpose? Cheers
  6. A work colleague (hello Richard) has started looking at 42" plasmas and is very interested in the Pana's. I bought my 600a in October for $2879 + warranty ($3.3Ktotal). Then before xmas they were selling for less than $3K inc. warranty. He's just started researching/looking and doesn't need to buy yet. I suggested waiting 'til mid year sales. Any prediction on what a 600a hd pana will cost in May/June?
  7. That'd be the postcode tax accounting for their high prices.
  8. Shop around. Myer will price match, as will Clive Peeters. Most do I guess. What suburb are you in? In a recent reply in this thread someone scored a 600a in Newcastle with an extended warranty for less than $2900. The prices are dropping...maybe after Xmas they'll be even further. It shouldn't be too hard to get them for $3K at most places.
  9. I collected my 600a today and I must say it's fantastic. What a great picture and the autotune works beautifully. I paid $2871 & $429 5yr ext warr. for mine from Clive Peeters after they agreed to price match...even after I'd left a deposit. Red Hot Chilli, ring around. JB, good guys & dse in Nunawading are a 5 minute walk from each other. Myer will price match (they said they'd match a phantom $3200 from dse) and CP did it for me...over the phone to. Because of the phanton $3200 my conscious got the better of me and I said $3300 to CP. Silly me! Try a young bloke named Chris at the Retravision store in Chirnside near Bunnings. I was browsing in there (after my CP purchase) and he was genuinely helpful. I'm sure they'd price match also.
  10. Would it be unusual for a company like Panasonic to add minor improvements to models during new manufacturing runs do you think? EG, could they update the numbering on the settings? If so, I guess we'll have to wait for the next shipment. The risk it seems is that they may be Made in China. I'm in two minds if that's a bad thing or not, as Panasonic will have invested in their product and I'd expect their QI procedures to be spot on. Then again...........
  11. Only available from them online it seems. Available badged differently elsewhere.
  12. Was the Fujitsu floor stock? What's it's normal list price? The pana 60A can be got for much less than $2999 to.
  13. IanD...cut and paste his url's...they'll work for the receipt. Off the top of my head....the 600a over the 60a apparently has: built in HD tuner, therefore only one remote required. better speakers..one each side, not underneath. sd card slot improved black in the display (not sure if the 60a also has it ) more black (I think) aesthetics. Not too shiny either.
  14. Retravision Chirnside Park in Vic has the 600A now...just one in the box, plus a demo. The list price is $3299 + $329 (maybe 379??) 5 yr ext. warr. That price was negotiable to $3100 (3429) and I'm guessing it'd go further down with more discussion. Service was genuine (Chris) and helpful. Anyone in a hurry to get one might try there. They had stacks of the 60a also. This seems a very good price... so far. Another cheapish buy. That's $3065 with 3 yr warr. Pretty good. I think they're the best I've seen in here over the last week or so.
  15. OHHH there's some news. Which city/state are you in straylight? Ahh Perth I see. I wonder if they've scored you a single unit from somewhere or has the big ship finally come in?
  16. You've been patient and the process has been slow. Tonight, you should write down your planned response to whoever you talk to tomorrow if you don't get satisfaction. !. Outline your frustration. The telly is only 2 months old and it's taken a month to diagnose. 2. You've followed a reasonable procedure of reporting and getting it assessed. 3. The problem is diagnosed but no one wants to be responsible for it. 4. If you don't get some satisfaction ask to speak to the manager. 5. If you still don't get satisfaction, then call Consumer Affairs, threaten a VCAT hearing etc... Stay calm. Ask for the persons name..twice.."sorry, what was your name again?" Record the name. Stay calm...you have a plan and you've got some prepared responses. Good luck.
  17. Thanks. I'm yet to get all these pieces together to look at the connections required, so that'll be my second duty after plugging the telly in and tuning it. Cheers
  18. I'm awaiting a 600A...sometime shortly..... I currently have a VCR, about 6 years old, and a DVD player about 3 years old. Nothing flash. They do their job. A couple of questions though. 1. Are these at all compatible with the Pana? My wife records quite a bit of fta TV. We don't have, nor will we be getting cable TV. We could use the twin tuner capability and ocassionally would want to keep a copy of something. 2. What might be the better pvr/dvdr upgrade options? I've read about the dse/pana/lg options and the expense is an issue. The dse is cheapest and seems to get some reasonable feedback. I've done quite a bit of reading through this great forum but to a technophobe like myself, it all just scrambles a wee too much eventually. Thanks in advance.
  19. The DSE store in Nunawading, Victoria is having an end of lease sale atm. They might be worth a call if anyone local is checking out prices this week.
  20. I'm also interested in what makes an HDMI cable good or bad. Gold plating?
  21. Makes the Kogan models look expensive! If someone has read the thread re: Kogan recently, how would these ones stack up against them and the Aiko from BIG W d'ya think? My experience with Aldi is that generally their product is good. A mate got a couple of notebooks a while back and has been happy with them.
